is JTAG a universal Device? - General Questions and Answers

Hello guys,
I have learnt a lot from XDA and still learning,
I work in a repairing LAB, being a software developer (of no use in Spanish Technology Growth Yet) I have stepped into hardware repairing to earn money and food you know... anyway
After encountring numerous dead samsung phones, i learnt a new name, JTAG, but I dont know anything about it so I ould go buy it with peace of mind..
I wanted to ask if I can use it universally on samsung or nokia devices or do they come with specified connections?
I will be very thankful to you guys for information.
Thanks.
Muneeb Aslam

Yes and no, JTAG cables often need to be soldered to the board (not always a plug in port on a device) and so there will be a need for various connections. The riff box can be many things there are cheap arduinos that can be made into one and I once heard someone say a 25$ raspberry pi can be turned into one but that I don't know. What ever box/board you use as a bridge needs to be connected to serial port on PC and then you need the software, which should be free and often open source.
In short its quasi universal to buy the equipment but the way you connect will vary so you may need to make or buy many connection.
A few Google searches will explain better than I can I'm sure

Arduinos can be extremely powerful if you know how to program them. I recommend you begin your search with that to save you some time and frustration as regular jigs can be a nightmare to navigate. Good luck buddy! :fingers-crossed:

i think jtag is a socket for repairing

Danny, the connectors are available online, however if you'd like to help, we could use two circuit board like this:

well im waiting to here from my friend who was a tool and die maker still. he is out of town. would really like to use his more specialized tools, high spindle speeds are needed for the tiny tooling needed and a jewlers drill press would be better than what i have. i could do something a little makeshift with a dremel but would like to do it a little less sloppy. also curious why it should be 2 pieces? just trying to figure out what you are seeing...
Bump. I'm still looking for 1 to 2 more units before I go official with this skill. Please contact me if you are in need of assistance.
Hmmmmmm... interesting thread. I shall subscribe. Might I request some photos and a little friendly info on your project to be posted in this thread?

YouTube "vibrant jtag" and the first video is of me doing this on a Vibrant/i9000. The project is the same but much harder on Captivate. Although it's no cakewalk on anything with how small jtag points are (.1-.2mm in size)...
+1
Maybe you'll get more to bite with all the mix ups of bootloaders between 2.3.x and 2.2. Seen at least 5 ppl between various forums say "flashed back to 2.2 from 2.3 and bricked "

I would love a JTAG adapter but currently none is available in the whole world for this phone. Member AdamOutler has been slowly fabbing one up for other purposes that may benefit me in the JTAG quest. But there is also a chance my skill will develop first and allow me to directly solder to the pads which I have managed to already do once and I'm hoping for some repeats on the boards I have currently in transit to me! If all goes well, I can go live with this service middle of next week.

Just wanted to pop in here and say THANK YOU to connexion2005 for his awesome work.
I sent him my hard-bricked Captivate a few days ago, and he was successfully able to recover it with with JTAG. JTAG has been something I have personally looked into when I was more active with the Captivate, and I can say that soldering to the main board is a real pain, and I applaud him for his skills in being able to do so. He was able to fix my phone and return it very quickly. His hard brick recovery service is a real asset to the SGS guys!
Thanks again!

If you have a hard bricked captivate that is no longer in warranty and is currently of no use to you, I'd like to practice with the motherboard and attempt to JTAG repair it. I'm practicing my skill at the tiny points on a Captivate board in an attempt to be able to offer JTAG Captivate debricking which is practically offered by only a few places in the world.
This is a REQUEST for any/all Captivate's that are not water damaged, and were hard bricked by a bad ODIN flash, firmware OTA upgrade or bootloader upgrade. If your phone has the black screen of death and won't turn on, this is for you. If it shows ZERO signs of life, this is for you.
MODS: This is not an advertisement for a service but a free offer of helping out both myself and the owner of the phone. There is NO PROFIT made on this. I will even cover your S/H fees to and from my home.
This process currently has a moderate chance (50/50) of damaging the boards points for JTAG owner's, this is only for people that don't currently have a warranty in effect and have nothing to lose versus throwing way a board I may be able to fix. If you have a warranty you are advised to go through Samsung or AT&T for a replacement not through me on this potential trial fix.
If I fix your phone, it's absolutely free for participating in my practice session with Captivate JTAG soldering. I have successfully mastered other Galaxy S variants (Epic, Vibrant and i9000) but the Captivate is by far the hardest phone to solder to.
I'm looking for 3 phones. Don't miss out on a chance to possibly have your paper weight restored at no cost!!!

[Q] help !!! need help finding my phone

I just got my LG OPTIMUS ONE P500 stolen a 3days ago, I am so pissed right now, but hey what can I do... I live in mysore, so no warranty and no police claim will get it back for me...
I never kept my gps enabled unless I was using it so no tracking software will be able to track my phone, I already blocked my number with my carrier so I guess there is not much I can do to track it.
at present i m trying to install plan b & android lost to track my mobile.
is der any other way to get back my stolen phone
please help me guys....
Thanks,
Nope. I was going to suggest AndroidLost but you've already tried that. Now, just pray that they work. Good luck, kano.
Consider this a learning experience and install tracking software on your next Android, or this one if you find it. I suggest AndroidLost.
if you have the phone imei it's simple for a carrier to track the phone, sadly this can be done only by police request !

Love Tyn!
help !!! need help finding my mobile
2day i lodged a complaint in police station, bt those people r saying it is impossible to find the mobile now a days as der is development of softwares which can change the mobile imei number.
is dat true or they just bluffing ?
It's true but this can be done by higly skilled people. So, depends on who stole your phone, if it is an ordinary person it is highly unlikely it has changed the imei, if it is a phone technician (or if the phone was given to him) then may have already changed the imei, but who knows? Surely if you had been the son of a minister, the police would be really committed to find the phone, I'm sorry not to be able to help more
thanks bro for replying.....

Unlocking android cellphone

I heard that android phones is easy to simfree, something like, you only need internet connection for the process... You dont need the tools like some sort of specific hardware and software como like universal box, cyclone box... Any word about this?
Thanks.

Given that your only other post was about changing the IMEI on a non-smartphone (which is highly illegal in most places where there are mobile network providers) I would suggest that you tread very, very carefully
How easy it is to unlock an Android phone all depends on what phone it is. Some are code based, some use software, some use hardware such as the XTC-Clip. None of the above will enable you to change an IMEI though, so don't bother asking for that sort of help on here.

I think is Yes coz android is free opertion system and anyone can do anything coz simple
It's a lot simpler to pay for an unlock code... usually only a few bucks but some cost more (search on eBay or Google)

Could do with a hand

Hi I've just received a new tablet , I know its not the best on the market but I have faith that it could be good.
I've followed a few threads on this forum with out having an account, and found the information to be very helpful with my late lg gt540 and my htc desire.
now as you can see at the bottom of this post I've got a DLR_MID. it has no name on the box apart from mid and nothing on the tablet itself, so finding a rom is somewhat fustrating. as the base rom has caused me a few issues i would prefer cmx or similar, with full root as well.
What information would a chef need from me to create a beautiful and tasty maserpiece. Also so advice from someone on one of the issues caused by the rom would be greatly appreciated and I'll go more into that now.
My tablwt has 2 internal storage bays showing up. 1 is listed as internal storage the other as internal sd. When I first got the tablet the sd was registering as 4Gb. I used the intwrnal a2sd function of the rom to move some apps. Without any warning the tablet reset, all the apps were gone but I'm left with only 1.71Gb. I plugged it into my pc to see what would show up there and still got the same 1.71Gb. I factory reset to whole device and still the same. I xould really do with some help with this please.
If you need more info please ask. I will do all it takes from my side to resolve both issues (with some advice with being a noob to tablets)
Kind regards to all
P.s. if I have posted in the wrong area I do apologise as I am new to the forum and haven't really figured the layout properly yet.

Is there someone that could help me please. I don't want to sound pushy, but some help no matter how small would do me the greatest of good. I'm almost at my wits end with both my issues here.
Thanks in advanced

First thing you will need is to know if the bootloader is unlocked and if kernel sources are available. Normally the answer to both is no when dealing with no name devices.

How would one go about find such info out? If you couldgive directions, I will be able to provide the information you require. That's if it would be you that would need the info.

Well first thing I would do is find the OEM and then look at the site and get as much info I could about the device.
Sadly purchased through ebay, I have made countless amounts of contacts with the seller to no avail. I can only assume they only understand money transfer, not language.
I have also made a number of attempts to google, all of which have turned up nothing. There seems to be a small house in the bambo forest making tablets out of panda poo and bambo leaves.

Can we do it?

Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place.
A friend and I are restoring an old car and am thinking of doing something different for the dash, we want to see if we can use a tab for the main display but also have it removable and use it as the key.
Before I go into too much detail, is it possible to get or create software that can read the sensors that come from the engine?

Of course, it is possible. All you have to do is use Arduino boards with Bluetooth adapter and link it to your tab. I would recommend you to google about android car robotics or about arduino boards. I'm really not sure about the entire mechanism but I've seen such implementations. Keep trying and you would find a solution. All the best. :good:
P.S. Kindly search forums related to your requirement. This forum doesn't seem to discuss such implementations.
