Sounds like my phone!
id like to atempt to make a connector to help you guys out. i have a couple ideas and the tools for precision work but dont feel like disassembling my phone for the proto-type proceedure. if you get a couple phones maybe i can help out.
Danny, the connectors are available online, however if you'd like to help, we could use two circuit board like this:

If you make these, please let me know. this would allow plug-in access.
Alrighty I have one coming my way. Still looking for 2 more. Come on bricked Cappy owners, this is like a golden ticket here.

well im waiting to here from my friend who was a tool and die maker still. he is out of town. would really like to use his more specialized tools, high spindle speeds are needed for the tiny tooling needed and a jewlers drill press would be better than what i have. i could do something a little makeshift with a dremel but would like to do it a little less sloppy. also curious why it should be 2 pieces? just trying to figure out what you are seeing...
Bump. I'm still looking for 1 to 2 more units before I go official with this skill. Please contact me if you are in need of assistance.
Hmmmmmm... interesting thread. I shall subscribe. Might I request some photos and a little friendly info on your project to be posted in this thread?

YouTube "vibrant jtag" and the first video is of me doing this on a Vibrant/i9000. The project is the same but much harder on Captivate. Although it's no cakewalk on anything with how small jtag points are (.1-.2mm in size)...

Maybe you'll get more to bite with all the mix ups of bootloaders between 2.3.x and 2.2. Seen at least 5 ppl between various forums say "flashed back to 2.2 from 2.3 and bricked "

I would love a JTAG adapter but currently none is available in the whole world for this phone. Member AdamOutler has been slowly fabbing one up for other purposes that may benefit me in the JTAG quest. But there is also a chance my skill will develop first and allow me to directly solder to the pads which I have managed to already do once and I'm hoping for some repeats on the boards I have currently in transit to me! If all goes well, I can go live with this service middle of next week.

PM sent. You qualify as my potential last trial run before real service is offered. Check your inbox and get that bad boy coming my way.
Just wanted to pop in here and say THANK YOU to connexion2005 for his awesome work.
I sent him my hard-bricked Captivate a few days ago, and he was successfully able to recover it with with JTAG. JTAG has been something I have personally looked into when I was more active with the Captivate, and I can say that soldering to the main board is a real pain, and I applaud him for his skills in being able to do so. He was able to fix my phone and return it very quickly. His hard brick recovery service is a real asset to the SGS guys!
Thanks again!

Hi all,
Yes this is true. I am one of those 2 phones resurrected from death!!!! Really thank you.. I know it is a hard task... so helping accomplish this and of course saving the phone is priceless http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Really thank you!!!!

If you have a hard bricked captivate that is no longer in warranty and is currently of no use to you, I'd like to practice with the motherboard and attempt to JTAG repair it. I'm practicing my skill at the tiny points on a Captivate board in an attempt to be able to offer JTAG Captivate debricking which is practically offered by only a few places in the world.
This is a REQUEST for any/all Captivate's that are not water damaged, and were hard bricked by a bad ODIN flash, firmware OTA upgrade or bootloader upgrade. If your phone has the black screen of death and won't turn on, this is for you. If it shows ZERO signs of life, this is for you.
MODS: This is not an advertisement for a service but a free offer of helping out both myself and the owner of the phone. There is NO PROFIT made on this. I will even cover your S/H fees to and from my home.
This process currently has a moderate chance (50/50) of damaging the boards points for JTAG owner's, this is only for people that don't currently have a warranty in effect and have nothing to lose versus throwing way a board I may be able to fix. If you have a warranty you are advised to go through Samsung or AT&T for a replacement not through me on this potential trial fix.
If I fix your phone, it's absolutely free for participating in my practice session with Captivate JTAG soldering. I have successfully mastered other Galaxy S variants (Epic, Vibrant and i9000) but the Captivate is by far the hardest phone to solder to.
I'm looking for 3 phones. Don't miss out on a chance to possibly have your paper weight restored at no cost!!!

I have searched, and have not found any information that can help me.
I have a touch that the Service Centre want £90 to repair - new motherboard. Is this fixable with a jtag - If so, does the Holly Gates Schematics for a Jtag Dongle work here?
Has anyone successfully JTAG'd an ELF? If so, was it due to a similar circumstance as myself?
Anything I have come across goes to Russian sites - I'm not russian, nor can I read it.
I have seen posts for other devices, but these seem to all be based on a Samsung Chipset, apposed to our OMAP devices?
Any help would be great, even if it is just to go read a post that I have missed when searching.

Hey, not sure if anyone would care all to much.
I have found a jtag setup I am curently preparing to use, I am going to hopefully be trying to do this tomorrow. I am working on a guide as I do it - as I haven't been able to find one. If this would be useful to anyone let me know, and I will upload it as soon as I have tested it on my broken elfin to make sure it works!
Hey mate, we care and keep us posted with any results.
Good luck!
hey just come into a bit of a stuck point. I have no images to support this.
I am trying to fix the cables to the main board on the jtag points. Aout 5mm wide. I dont really want to solder them on. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to affix them? I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow when i can.
Stu
Unable to do pictures today, I will do them tomorrow hopefully on my lunch break, so people can make suggestions.
I am a little scpetical about if this will work. I do not know the history of the device I am tinkering with, but I hope this will fix it.
If anyone has a broken elf they would like to part with for me to test, that would be great (I would pay ofc)

Hey,
Please see attached image.
This points out the JTAG test points, labelled to what they do (in theory) and what pin they connect to the JTAG device from the LPT cable.
I think these are very small to be able to tape them on, I also do not think that they would give a good enough connection. I am going to try to solder the cables on tonight - but in the mean time, if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to let me know. Any ideas are good!

Hi captainstu72,
I have a completely dead HTC Touch P3450. Really dead. Even when I plug the charger to the device, the orange light (as a sign that the phone is charging now) can not light on.
A service man asked me to replace the machine for USD 80, as he said we can not do j-tag to HTC ELF
Your thread is very exciting. Please keep posting, I'll follow this thread.
Thanks

Hey bombom81,
I'm glad this can be useful for others. I just want to make sure that people don't get their hopes up too soon, thats the thing, I don't know if it is definately able to work, but I know it has been done on other phones with a very similar chipset to ours.
If I have any major break through tonight, I will definately be doing a write up on it tomorrow in my lunch, and If you'd like I can PM you when done so you can give it ago.
Your ELF sounds as though it is in a similar state to mine, so hopefully, if I get this fixed, it may well work on yours!

Yes..I had this problem months ago and I've made a thread for it :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582913
Unfortunately, every suggestions I got from people here didn't work in my device. And I could not even claim a warranty for it as the seller said that the product warranty is already expired too long ago (in the end I knew that the product was his present from his office, and when he said it is new, means that, It is new because He never used it...LOL, not "new" from the factory). So I just keep it in my cupboard.
I think It will be more valuable for others if we discuss here, on your thread, than PM, as I think there are many people are having the same problem like us (as many as I can find after I google "Repair Totally Dead ELF" )
Please, kindly also check this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=602233
This guy also found a similar thing like yours. I actually don't know a thing about JTAG. In the future, please forgive me if I might ask you some questions about it and I hope you don't mind about my questions.
Thanks for your kind to share your experience with us, I'll keep watching this thread and hopefully you'll be success with your experiment so it can bring the joy for all of us.
Best Regards,

Hey,
Likewise, every suggestion I could find had no luck, which I why I decided to dig deeper.
I did come across GallegoT's thread, however, I sent him a PM to see if he had got anything sorted, but I have never heard back - So I created a new one.
I was going to keep this thread posted, don't worry, I was only going to PM you when it was finished - to save you keep checking it
Had a few issues with it last night, tried soldering to the board, but my soldering iron doesn't get hot enough, hasn't got a thin enough tip, and my hands weren't steady enough - Also the wires I was using were fairly wide, I have swapped these for a thinner Kynar wire, and will more then likely be remaking the whole of my setup to make it easier.
Just so you have an idea - I currently have an LPT (male to male) cable which I have taken the end off, and soldered wires to 2 3 4 6 11 and 18-25. 18-25 link then into one wire, as this is to ground the device. 2 3 4 6 and 11 are connected to 100Ω resistors each. These are then connected to wires, which are ready to be connected to the device.
Thats the basics of the device - I do not have an image of what I have planned out avaliable, but you can get the idea of it from what is in this post, and using my image posted earlier.
Maybe you guys have better tools - soldering equipment etc then I do.
When this is done you need to run a program called HJtag, and NoIce. I have an idea on what to do for these, however, I have not tested it yet to want to post it on here.
Like I have said though, I will be making a guide that is as full as I can.
I will try some more tonight, to get the cables connected, and hopefully then will be able to give the whole process a go.
Thanks for your interest in this thread, even if I only manage to help one person, at least then I feel as though I will be giving something back to the community on this site.
(I'll point out now - I did not have a clue about Jtag before now - but I also have some links I will post which make some interesting reading!)
Stu
Hey to anyone who is still watching this.
I have just got my elfin all wired up, ready to go, circuit is fully continuous and there are no bridges (I haven't soldered for more then 8 years!)
However, I have been a bit stupid, my pc doesn't have a parallel port. I'm going to buy one tomorrow and get going - very annoyed about this set back, i'm such an idiot for not checking!
I'll try it tomorrow night hopefully, worst case would be friday/saturday - A long time since starting this projct, but my hopes are high and I really hope I can help some of you guys out there!
Just thought I should update you all, I don't want this thread to become dead... like our elfs
Stu
LOL..no need to worry that your thread is dead.
I'll visit this thread everyday to see how it's going
BTW...do we really need the LPT Socket to do the JTAG? if so, then I will have to ask my IT man in my company to find me a "no-used" LPT socket, lucky I have an old Pentium 3 PC that I might be able to use it for this JTAG matter.
Please update the step-by-step tutorial here with photos so I can follow you easily. FYI, I am blind in this JTAG matter, so please do not mind to answer my next "silly questions".
Keep going! Thanks
Parallel is the only interface I have found to do it on - I would have much prefered usb or something more up to date, but we can't always have what we want.
Below are a few links that I read through before doing anything, just so I could get a vague understanding. I'm workign on the guide today on my lunch - the last part will have to be in theory.
Jtag Introduction
Someone Jtag'd an Ipaq (not the same but the concept)
Has some links to JTAG
Program we will be using for the jtag
NoIceDebugger - A program I will be using
What I think our Processor is
OMAP 850
Again, I will be making a an actual guide, this is just some reading before hand that i did that may be useful!
Stu
hey, well, i have a parallel port and have attempted the jtag.
It didn't work.
My guess is i was using too long cables, or something has come loose. My continuity tester has now died so i will be testing again on the weekend.
I'm going to post the guide i am working and what i did tomorrow. Maybe someone (bom81) would be able to give it a go and do well as i'm sure he will.
Sorry for the failure, but i am really optimistic that it will work, and that it didn't only because of something i may have wired wrong that someone else does right. I'm going to try and get a thirc elf to break and fix as well as it may just be the one i am doing is beyond repair.
Bom81, if you give this a go, good luck. I'm sure you'll have some luck!
If anyone else tries when i have the guide up, please please let this thread know, even if it doesn't work.
Stu
Hi Stu..
Can you give me the russian forum that explain about this jtag on HTC Touch.
I'm going to learn it there.
BTW, how long have you made the cable? have you cut it shorter and try again the connection?
Try to read this thread : http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f98/htc-elf-dead-after-wrting-elfin-rom-650359/
This guy has the same problem with us but finally (or luckily?), the device could come to Bootloader mode. I'm going to try to PM him, so he can explain how did he get the device work.
Thanks for your try.
Regards,
Bom81
This is for the wizard - same omap 850 http://pda2u.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=348
I can't find my link for the touch, it may be on my home pc, but it was on the same website iirc.
Cable was about 50cm's - Too long, so I am remaking it to around 15cms tonight, but will be fun as I do not have my continuity tester to make sure that the circuit has the right resistance etc. before I think I was going over by too much due to cable length.
I have started the guide, I just need a few files off my home PC, so I will do this tonight again.
It really annoys me when other threads/sites do not put everything down they have tried, the internet is for information, not for saying, "ha, i've done it!"
I'll try again tonight and tomorrow, I think I have my LPT PCB sockets waiting to be collected, all the way from China, so this will be easier for me to do ultimately.
I haven't yet given up hope, and I'm sure that if I get my document made, someone will be able to tweak it and further help us.
I just don't know how many people are using the Elf's anymore, its fine there being a thread saying we have 900's htc touch's, but how many still use them and are active on this community.... but I digress.
I am really sorry that I am not good in Electronic thing, nor that I know how the electronic equipment works.
But I will try to learn from the website url you provided. Afterall, my HTC is already dead, it will not be a big problem if I make some experiments on it. If I'm lucky enough, I might wake a Frankenstein from his dead. LOL !!
Thanks,
Bom81
JTAG HTC device
Thanks first of all for your effort captainstu72 and bombom81, very interesting thread.
I am also in the same situation - having a bricked device (flashed wrong ROM and/or wrong carrier) and thus also interested in getting a serial cable hooked up to it no bootloader - no reset. The device is therefore software-wise dead.
I would therefore also love to try your procedure to getting a JTAG connection to the device. I have not been dealing with soldering on electronic devices since I did this on commodore 64... quite a few years ago as you imagine but therefore even more exciting.
I will check this thread and get a serial cable. Oh does the H-JTAG Software also run from linux since I only work on linux on this machine?
Thanks in advance and let me know if I can be of any help in this.
Oliver
Hi Stu and ITCons (welcome to the thread)
I've read the Russian website and have made a translation of the thread from Russian to English using Google Traslate.
Unfortunately, as I said before, I have no competency in electronic, but I'll try to learn.
All credits for the compiled document will go to user id : MEDUSH and ARCC in the Russian Forum (PDA2U.Ru), as they mentioned this document might be reprinted by their copyright.
Please have a read to the document I attached...I'll come back if I'm finding out something (as this week I'll face my busiest week of the month, there are some reports in my daily jobs that I need to prepare to my Boss...LOL).
Thanks for your kind attention.

Thank you very much Bom81
I have found another thread on this forum as well in the gene section, which shows how they did it on the gene too (omap 850 processor as well) I have posted on there to ask if anyone can relink to the revised download, but so far, there has been no update.
I'm going to go through what you have posted tonight bom, it matches most of what I was going which is always good (from my point of view, as it means i wasn't chasing a lost cause)
Sorry for not posting the guide yet, i'm slacking! But now, obviously, it does not matter so much as bom has posted an excellent guide in his post.
ITcons - I have had a (very) quick look, I don't think HJTAG runs on linux, although I would be interested to see how it would work in cedega/wine (this is not something I can test personally), I hope it would be able to use the LPT ports etc correctly - but again, nothing I really have a whole lot of experience about.
I'll see how it goes tonight, hopefully I should have remade my circuit again, and will be ready to test once more! - This time I am using an LPT PCB Socket - hopefully easier to do as there will be less in the way of resistance from excess cables.
Stu
Okay so I had a G2x and tried rooting it and I think i did something wrong. With all these instructions ramble on about one thing and another hard for me to really understand all the correct steps.
So can I please have someone give me a hand with this? As in a step by step process of everything? This is my second G2X brand new from T-Mobile has the Gingerbread 2.3.3. So if anyone can actually tell me step by step and what files I am going to need so I don't brick this one because 300USD is getting expensive.
u payed for ur replacement? lol
use the one click flash nvidia tool, to flash the clockworkmod, you dont evne have to root it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG08Uc8pQT0
yeah I had to pay for a second one. GRRR T-Mo actually checks their phones with sprint if I bricked or something just dip it in water and send it in. They would never check to see if you rooted it. So anyways do I install Clockwork or only do the steps in the video with the nv flasher?
And whats the best rom? I really like the looks of MIUI sorta looks like my wifes iPhone.
i think you screwed yourself on this one... this phone is like virtually unbrickable, nvflash should be able to bring you out of any soft bricks you might run into and ive run into a fair share of them and never had a problem...
i would recommend you sift though the development section and read all of the tutorials and have a very good understanding of what you are doing instead of having someone spoonfeed you everything when you really dont know what you are doing... (im a high school math teacher and cannot stand it when students are just spoonfed information because in the end they really dont understand what they are doing)
start here though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Yeah, what he said. maybe you shouldn't be messing with your phone if you don't understand the implications.

Best thing I've ever read. It helps shine a light on why so many people almost daily are asking for help on how to do something when this forum is riddled with tutorials. I personally stopped helping months ago with any questions on how to root or flash or just anything that there are tutorials for. It just gets crazy redundant.

Then why even post in here? Don't be a ****. Even more frustrating than people who can't use a search feature are people too uptight and high-strung to help someone. Yeah, maybe the OP could have found the answer himself. But he's obviously been following a tutorial (likely in this very forum) that's not working for him (hence his replacement phone). The guy just needs two seconds of help from someone. In the amount of time it took me to copy/paste the following links, I could have torn him a new one thirty times over. But I'm not a ****. So, if you absolutely HAVE to post here, at least make it constructive. Incessant *****ing does no good for anyone.
To the OP:
Firstly, you'll need to flash CWM. This is super simple, given you're on a PC. If you're on Mac, things will get tricky (i.e. virtual Linux environment, headaches, etc).
Next, you can find an easy to follow rooting method here. It even has an unroot .zip option given you have to send your phone in again (will save you another $300 ).
And of course, you can PM me if you need any help. If these are the steps you have already followed, here's a YouTube video with some visuals. When I'm stuck on something, that usually helps me a lot.

Uhhhh... i really dont understand how i was being a ****... I simply stated that he should have a holistic understanding of what hes doing before he starts tinkering because the figure it out as you go method can lead to a 300 dollar paper weight. Not to mention I pointed him in the right direction to start....
All I did was give a bit of advice that I felt was in his best interest and then sent him on his way...
If you think what I originally posted was flaming then you clearly have never seen me tear somebody a new one lol
Dont worry man

In the end even if he successfully roots his phone, he may wind up causing himself problems by having access to system files because it's obvious he doesn't really know what he's doing. Everyone shouldn't root. If you cannot follow the simple instructions to root without "bricking" a device, and you cannot follow simple instructions to bring the device back to an operational state, then perhaps rooting is not for you (OP). It just sounds like he is going to cause himself even more problems.

^^this... root access to phones is not a hand out, it has to be earned, and you earn it by educating yourself about your device and its capabilities and by following simple instructions...

yeah I had to pay for a second one.

I can't believe no one has said this yet.
Most phones have water sensors, so dipping it in water would just void the warranty. Sorry if you were joking. But as many have said, it's pretty easy to flash the phone back to normal so the TMobile doesn't know it's been hacked. Did you ask here first?
I am thankful for all the responses. Sorry if I caused grief and headache to anyone. I was finally able to get my phone rooted giving the information that someone provided to me on here. I sent him a PM to personally thank him.
By all means I should probably be *****ed at if I don't follow instructions very well. I have always considered myself a visual learner. If I don't have hands on and able to see it done, it really complicates things for me. I guess you can call it a disability.
Anyways I have come from a long line to HTC which I can say is way different in rooting then these phones. I root them to begin with to get rid of all the stupid software T-Mobile places in my phone and to normally switch to CM7 which I have found out is giving me problems which I am currently trying to figure out.
So please negative comments and put downs are always accepted it comes with the questions. But I don't want to sound like an ass or anything when I say this because I mean it in the upmost respect to everyone, but isn't this a forum? A community forum?
Someone once had to show you, all I did was ask for the same help. And this whole GSM network ways of doing things is different from my typical Sprint CDMA network that I am used to. Everything was pretty much the same when it came to that.
Again please I AM VERY SORRY truly if I caused any problems. Please don't be upset at me. Thanks.
I don't think anyone is upset with you. We're all here to contribute and help. Have fun with your rooted G2X

Don't feel bad. I bricked mine upgrading to GB, and I'm still not sure what went wrong. I got it fixed for free by sending it into LG.

Do not sweat the whiners. Here is the way I look at it... It is a forum for developers. I can not develop crap, so I try to do my part by being helpful when I can. Everyone here was brand new at one point. Make sure you do your part by reading as much as you can. If you still have questions/issues, send me a PM.
Why does every noob question get followed up with a bunch bullshizz. We were all noobs at one point, I remember when my Huawei ascend scared me. Nothing is worse than bricking your phone and being upset than a bunch of know it all asses being pricks. Is the g2x forum the only one full of d-ckheads? I've never heard so much whining and holier than thou bs. I'm surprised we have any devs, ungrateful bunch of *****es. Wah, nvidia never, wah, everyone else has ics, wah, that noob asked a question, wah, I suck. I love my g2x, it's a typical musclecar, way over powered and finicky as hell. The g2x is not a beginners device, this is for big boys and girls. I wonder what the whiners would do if they owned a ferrari? Newsflash, they break down, a lot! I remember when xda was where you went for help and support, now I come here to be entertained by the ignorance of the know it alls. Go ahead, blast me, I'm a writer for an Android website and I'll make it painful. OK, then, how bout all these new roms and updates? It's like the g2x is reborn. Hey, wait a minute, I thought the g2x was a useless, unsupported piece of ka ka? Frickin morons!

Well first I am glad you were able to fix the phone however I understand knowledgeable people get frustrated because this phone is simple to root. With a phone that has been out this long there is no reason anyone can not find out what to do on there own.
There are so many YouTube videos and forums like this. You are not the second person to too your phone or to brick it so why create a new post looking for help when you can simply Google it. I know your lazy and expect someone else to do your work for you.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...9l19l0l3l3l0l1535l5020l1.0.3.0.2.2.1.0.1l10l0
See plenty of info on the subject I am sure one of these other people have been helped.
This is why devs are tired of these questions they have been answered over and over. You may find this mean to say but you most likely found this forum by using Google so use it to fix your phone. Stop wasting peoples time by being lazy and use your head.

The problem is this. Ppl dont know how to research their issue. Also ppl in our generation cant seem to follow directions worth ****. I was the same way. I learned on my g1. Rooted it successful and then bricked my friends. Over the years ive learned alot about computers/phone/cdma flashing. Playing with the big boys. You develop problem solving skills that you can apply outside of this. It truly makes you smarter. So yea. Maybe we are know it all asses.

total noob and i need help.... here is my problem... I unlocked my new infuse and then rooted the phone. everything was fine fo several hours and all of the sudden it started vibrating and would reset with out turning all the way off. the android drop screen does not function. everytime you try to pull it down it starts the above issue. if a text comes thru it does it again. i did a factory reset and this didnt help. i still have superuser on the phone but cant seem to get phone to function it has power and works to an extent. you can tap apps and go thru most of the phone but it will reset and go back to main screen and vibrate and start process all over.... any ideas. i am a noob and not very technical, prob why my phone is f'ed up right now. using my samsung captivate for now. please help the new guy. i looked for threads with similar issues but found nothing with search bar. thanks ahead of time
I'm not familiar with unlocking...i do know if I'm not mistake you have to root first then unlock....but that should not effect your phone...but phones are so different....even though we all have the same model....
I would reload stock and re root....then re unlock....ate you runnning stock or custom rom?

Why yes glad you asked...check my signature...for the iset page....
You will find a **** ton of info....since your somewhat new...do a lil reading....ok ....do a lot...
Look for the one click methods by qkster....although the new odin links are great also....your choice....
And any questions the op for those threads can provide you with great help and you can pm me also...
And don't forget to thank the op dev that provided you with what you need...kk
In that case I like to suggest you to unbrick the cellphone (restore again to FROYO) and test the cellphone... If you do it, you will loose the root, however the unlock will remains
You can re-root the cellphone later... the issue could be also being caused by an app that you had installed
*** If your cellphone is from AT&T you can use the GTG's Ultimate Unbrick tool, to go back to FROYO
Remember that you must have ODIN to unbrick the cellphone..

If you can not figure out how to go back to stock, then i know mobiletechvideos. They got my old infuse running again when the usb port got borked. If you need a link ask me, idk were the link is lol. Trust me though, it worked well. Only thing is it costs money. Better off to learn how to do it unless if hardware is actually broken, not software.
Btw you may want to learn how to unbrick and learn your basics before you attempt at doing something like this again. Just making a very logical suggestion.
For sure check out the Odin videos... I have a feeling that they are going to come in handy a few times..
Everyone has to start somewhere and we all had to learn, I was really overwhelmed when I first started looking into it, but then it was like "oh! That's it?"
Most people here are super helpful (I'm not... I'm a n00b) but don't be mailing your phones to someone you don't know or anything like that... you're begging for someone to rob ya..
Just take it slow and read, read, read... when you have read enough to have a handle on it.. read some more!

Welcome to the addiction!
It is so interesting to me what can be done with minor and major changes how simple things make HUGE differences.
Next thing you know, you will be grinding out apktool changes and making themes!

does anyone know if it is sealed or glued, etc.?
I tried this with my dell streak 7 tablet, and the seal wasnt heated enough to loosen up, and some of the outside cracked.
needless to say I wont be opening my tab plus regardless.
but thanks for the info.

I wonder if that tool could help us get ICS any more quickly. Are there any unstable members good at making convincing threats?

"unstable." That's an interesting choice of word. I'd say that when I try to dance, I'm pretty unstable. I'm also unstable when trying to balance on a tightwire. Does that count?
Hehe. I left out the mentally-part. I thought that was obvious. Just joking around... trying to imagine ways that tool could be put to use.

Oh! Why didn't you say so? Obviously, most people on these forums are mentally parted! As well, we often part with our mentality.
Am I missing something mental here? Perhaps only part-way?
Well, in any case, I hope you didn't take my comment personally. I certainly didn't mean for it to come across that way. When I saw that image you linked, I giggled and immediately pictured a frustrated XDA member heading to Samsung with ICS-demands on their mind and a hammer in their hand.
Have a nice day, Gary.
Hi guys,
I've bought my HTC One XL directly from Australia, through Telstra. But now I live in Brazil
Well, I bricked my phone pretty hard. I even bothered reading all the topics about my stituation to see if there was any available solution. Turns out there isn't.
Well, at least through the community. From what I gathered, HTC is able to refurbish it and send it back - or at least exchange for another one.
The problem is, since this device is not sold in Brazil, HTC-Brazil simply don't do any kind of repair on it. So, my only hope lives in a good australian soul accepting to receive my phone and do me this big favour of checking if HTC-Australia would help me - even if I have to pay some technical fee.
I know this forum is not exacly for something like this, but I'm out of ideas. And since my investment was pretty big and I can't afford another one right now, I'm here begging for some help.
If this good soul exists, please, PM me so we can go through details.
Thanks in advance!
I feel you man..what'd you do to your phone? And when you get on the phone with HTC Australia tell them the truth I've seen them take pity on some people for flashing the wrong thingss and making it free to recover

Thanks man. Well, I was absolutely used to the HOX with Tegra 3, once I got the XL I thought I know almost everything. It worked well for a while, but things went sour when I tried to downgrade. I think it corrupts some stuff on the phone, and after that I think it's not possible to install a RUU. Well, I tried to anyway and found out that the hard way.
I was already pretty honest with them. I talked to them online, told them the whole story, but they said they could do nothing for me since I was in Brazil. And, as I said, HTC-Brazil was completely useless, since they don't sell this device here.
That's why I'm trying to find some help from an australian mate here at the forum. 'Til now, I had no success.
I found a guy who does JTAG here in Brazil. Since I'm having a hard time doing it trough HTC, I think I'll try this one last resort. I think I got almost nothing to lose by now.
What exactly do you need someone to do for you?

Hey timmaaa!
I'd need that person to give me an address to send the device, and after that I'd use this address to ask HTC what should I do.
Possibly I'd need it to be sent to HTC or Telstra.
But it's ok, by now I took the second possibility. I sent it to be used in a test with Riffbox. Now all I have to do is pray, as much as I can.
Anyway, thanks for replying!

Thanks man. I found int while I was doing my research yesterday.
Anyway, I found another site, a brazilian one (amigoandroid.com.br) which does the same service. I called him, and he sound pretty good technically, even explaining to me why jtagiing the Tegra version is a no-go. Also, I found some pretty good reviews about him in some brazilian forums.
He also explained to me that this process for the One XL is still in beta testing. But, as I said, I got pretty much nothing more to lose. For me it's ok if it ends up bricked if it makes future bricked devices come back to life.
Beside that, the price is basically the same, but I save money from the shipping and save some time I'd use to explain brazilian customs that the device was already mine, that I was sending it for repair and yadda yadda.
Anyway, thanks for the help. Will keep posted and, in cade anyone ends up screwed like me, they may fin a light at the end of the tunnel.
