Tf701 price - Asus Transformer TF700

I don't get why the 701 cost so much particularly when compared to the t100. I'm not trying for a fanboy flame war. I'm looking at the stats. The 100 has a price drop on amazon to $299. The 701 is about $440. 100 runs full windows 8.1 while 701 has "free" android. The 100 is way behind on screen Res. Small plus to cpu, 100 is 1.86 and 701 is 1.9. 100 comes with 64 internal memory while at this price 701 has 32. Most other features are close or equal. One of The biggest differnce is the 100 comes with the keyboard. 140 or so for the 701.
Why is there a 280 dollar price difference?
The is no reason to think asus would not make its windows tablet as good as the android and maybe quality control is higher to keep a presence in market.
The price and features make this a very compelling tablet. Even refurbished the 700 with keyboard is more expensive.
So why is the 701 so expensive? If it was priced with keyboard the other features might explain why, but without it, it makes no sense to me.

In the UK the TF701 is very reasonably priced. £429 with dock. Especially considering it is top of the range. The TF100 is a budget windows convertible. Screen res is lower, no battery in dock, CPU is ok, etc? Here in UK it is £349 so not that much cheaper.

My amazon price was a one day only price, the price is back to reg price us which if i figure right is similar to your uk price.
Its not completely the budget line because its running win 8.1 not rt and comes with office home and students, which is a much better office pack than anything on android and sells for $100 us. With office you get big boy package and includes the very popular with students Notes.
It has been reviewed pretty favorably, except for keyboard. If it happens to run as well as my tf300, i could be happy with it particularly if i were a budget minded student.
I'm not getting one. I just wish 701 with keyboard was 100 dollars cheaper.
Besides that i wouldn't be able to look forward to 701 improvements by the most notable Sbdags.

The Tf100 is a watered down a Windows 8 device. The hardware is not the same and reflected in the price point Asus was aiming for with the tablet. Simply put, the Tf701 is the better device with more advanced components. If you want a cheaper Asus android device then they do make them.

I was wondering the same thing. I want a tablet running win 8.x but it needs to run adobe cc at least a little. The 100 having full MS OFFICE is a very attractive feature & ability.
Good topic thx...

[Q] How many months until we see it for the MSRP?

For being lauded as a wonderful $400 tablet, I'm not sure about spending well over $500 for one.
Will there be a new generation before we see a $400 transformer for the tablet alone? I have no use for a dock, I just want a nice hackable tab, and the nook isn't really cutting out even at 1.3ghz.

It's available now for MSRP so I really don't get what you're saying.
he probably means 'readily' available, as in, walk in, walk out with one from a retailer.

i dont think so he said he's not sure about spending 500 for the TF. what are you referring to OP? shipping, taxes or are you from another country? in north america MSRP is 400.
talking about 32gb ? It's 500 here, msrp too
i think he is talking about how ppl on Amazon is selling it for 550
i walked in and walked out with one
By early June to Mid June 2 major competitors (Samsung and someone I forgot) will be on the market. The Asus will be like the Xoom at that point.
Once they start shipping slightly higher qtys it should open up quickly as there are many duplicate and triplicate orders being placed because of the resellers policies of accepting orders and payment then arbitrarily canceling them after some time. Check out the availability thread and stick with the reliable resellers.

Why do you say that? The TF 16GB wifi-only is $399. The equivalent Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB wifi-only will be $499. So, the TF will still be the least expensive option (as well as the most interesting given the dock) in its class.

Agreed. The TF will be the inexpensive alternative in that case.
There will be plenty of people who will want this just because it is $100 (which is a sizable chunk) cheaper and still has a great screen.
I wouldn't be surprised if the TF eats into Samsung's sales -- not vice versa. For instance, I was going to go for the 10.1 but given its late release date and the awesome TF specs, I decided to change my mind and go with Asus.
I ask because I haven't found an online retailer in the us that shows it for $400.
I guess people are taking advantage of scarcity currently.

IMHO Samsung will be of higher quality materials. Hopefully it will also have the Samsung processor The killer for Samsung is the 8.9 form factor unit. This size is closer in price, considerably lighter, and IMHO (as an iPad, NC, and soon Transformer owner) a better size for a pure tablet.
The advantage for the Transformer is a dock. With that I would buy it at even a higher price point because of the content creation capabilities. But to a lot of users this is not as big as an a factor.
But, the bottom line is that as more Android tables come on line the impact of any particular unit like the Transformer becomes less and less. It just like what happened with phone. The original Droid was unique, the follow-ons are just another Android phone.
Toshiba? I have seen their tablet (at CES?) and if it is really this one, i am happy i have gone with the transformer, the camera was directly under your finger, lot of (useless?) buttons where you would hold the tab (if you are a lefty), and i doubt the screen will match the transformer one (not sure about this one) and i also doubt it will match the low price...One interesting thing about it though is the "removeable" battery. As for the samsung, it seems great, nice screen, look great, comes in (2?) sizes, but the 3 main reasons i didn't wait to see it is first, the price, doubt they will match the transformer (maybe the little one but i already own a galaxy s, so for little screen i am served) the updates... well the only device i got from samsung was the galaxy s, waited an eternity to get froyo but for gingerbread, wasn't so long (but a LOT of people are complaining that they never updates, etc) and third, the dock, the galaxy tab doesn't seem to want to release a dock at the launch which is definately + for me... other thing that samsung could do to get more customer is to get a processor other than tegra 2 which could actually play 1080p/720p with every profiles... but i don't think they have revealed yet which they are gonna settle with. So i am actually getting my first tablet, transformer with dock, making my programmation course with it and then, i may buy a super quad core tablet
(Dang, think this is my biggest post so far )
EDIT: oh well maybe not finally, just looked enormous on my little galaxy s screen lol

Disagree.
The Xoom was never that popular to begin with so I don't see how you can use that as a comparison.
Again, the biggest point here is the price; form factor is one thing but that only might affect a buyer. Price always caters to a wide audience.
In fact, the only reason in mind that the Xoom sold any units is because it was the only Honeycomb tablet available.
Nobody cares that the Xoom's 32 GB price is the same as the Ipad's 32 GB price. Most people will look at the price and just cringe. It is quite clear that there is a bigger market for a more affordable tablet.
Not only did the Xoom needed to match Apple's lowest price offering, it needed to be EVEN lower -- or else why not just go for the iPad? That is what goes through the minds of most consumers: they might care about size, OS or whatever form factor but in the end it always boils down to price. (when you don't hold the same brand weight as Apple)
The Asus TF is the most affordable quality Honeycomb tablet. (By FAR the most affordable) That is the biggest reason why it is hot right now. Even though I think Samsung will sell the 10.1 and 8.9 just based on brand name alone, I still think Asus will retain strong sales as long as it remains the most affordable quality HC tablet. Asus already has the advantage of releasing the TF a month before Samsung plans to release just the 10.1.
I'm trying to decide between ASUS and Samsung. If ASUS really needs to get these in stores soon.

ASUS 7" Nexus Tablet Discussion

I was surprised to not see a thread created already in General Discussion for this topic.
As AndroidandMe reported last week, ASUS was rumored to be creating the first Nexus branded Tablet with a price between $200-$250. As the week went on, more rumors swirled (and are starting to look pretty solid at this point) that ASUS will in fact be making the first Nexus (7") Tablet featuring stock Android 4.0, a dual-core Qualcomm processor (potentially the Snapdragon S4) and is looking to be priced at $149!
At this point, even though the first Nexus Tablet won't be a quad-core, this is looking like a really sweet deal. I personally will probably replace my Kindle Fire with this if the specs stand true.
Anyway, just figured I'd start a discussion. Here are some source links:
Initial Rumor
Digitime Echos Rumor of Nexus Tablet by ASUS
Source Says Tablet Is A "Done Deal"
Additional Article One
Additional Article Two
It does sound pretty good except I can't bring myself to pay more than $150 for a 7" tablet. I would pay $200 for a 10" tablet but no more than that. It might be because I got a TouchPad when it went on the fire sale. Now I want all tablets to be that price. I blame HP. LOL
Make it 10' -> (As screen is bigger, more allowed internal space, the price goes up).
I would pay $300 or $350 for a 64 Gb 10 inches screen.
Profit!!!
I am really curious to the specs the end result is going to have. Even more because this even lower price than said before. It sure is going to be a nice gadget.
If it is anything like the memo i can see this being a massive hit. Put in either an S4 or a Tegra 3 like the memo a 1280x800 IPS display and micro sd card and people will see this at a store then see the price then see it on their receipt. I myself have a transformer that's almost a year old and I would pick one of these up as my go to tablet and the TF as the work tablet (keyboard dock)
Would be good to see a Nexus tablet, there are no GED tablets out there*
Xoom doesn't count as it is ONLY the wifi version that was on sale in ONLY the United States. Though if they really want to to take off and go head to head with the dedicated 200~ tablets they need to improve their ecosystem, open up google movies, books and music to more countries
I would be very interested in a 10"+ tablet, 7" doesn't do it for me. Bigger the better.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm not sure why people are talking about 10" tablets - aren't there plenty of those around? The 7" Nexus is clearly a direct response to Amazon's success with the Kindle Fire (if rumors are to be believed even Apple is paying attention), and in order to compete with it they need to be at $200 or below.
At $149 I doubt they will be using the S4/Krait, but we can always hope. In any case, I was more than a little tempted by some of the crappy ~$140 Chinese Cortex A8 tablets available. $149 for a Nexus tablet, even if it's only a dualcore Snapdragon S3, is an insane deal.
I do hope Google brings out two types of nexus Tablet. A $249 10 inch tablet and a 7 inch tablet at $149.
I think if they can do the two above and make the Tablets desirable I really think the Android Tablet ecosystem could really start to kick off
I already have a 10 inch tablet, but would very much consider this for a second. The Nexus is the selling point, as long as battery life were excellent I am on board.

But where would you put a 10 foot tablet?
im kind of disappointed if the memo370 is being discontinued and downgraded and being replaced with the rumors of the new specs. Google is obviously not liking the fact that the kindle is built off the blackberry playbook chassis and the tweaked OS that provides google with zero commission. In any case I hope they undercut the kindle fire in price if they do but its hard to say im looking forward to it when amazon is expected to come out with updates. Honestly, they need to come out with a 10" ipad killer that costs half the price or else they won't change the game.
It would really suck if this tablet replaces the asus memo. Me and my friends were all going to get one. And if this new nexus is just going to just be a dual core, then how is it any better than the nook tablet? They're probably going to get rid of the micro sd card slot like they've been doing. I'm just salty because I was looking forward to the memo
The last months, I began to get interested in Tablets and nearly bought a Lenovo Ideapad and a (shame on me) iPad, but i could resist. But when the rumours are true I buy one, even when its "only" a Dual-Core.
Normally I´m interested in a 10" (or more like the Samsung 11" and the Toshiba 13") , Quad core Tablet with Keyboard Dock. 7" is too small for a couch, but for rhis prize, with google Support I cant´t say no
Looks like this is being pushed back until July to try and shave off manufacturing cost to keep it at the $199 mark.
I've been looking to get a tablet for some general gaming and thought this might be a good one to look at. Hopefully the specs are decent otherwise I may have to pay a little extra for something that will play most games well.
Regardless though, it is good to see Google, Asus, Nvidia (and anyone else involved) trying to create tablets for the mainstream with good specs at a great price. This can only be good for the Play Store and the tablet market in the long run.

[Q] What on earth is the TF700?

So I've been planning to purchase a transformer prime TF-201 for a while, and I was going to purchase it within the next few weeks. Now I'm finding information on this TF-700, whatever it is, but not enough to understand if it's a replacement or an upgrade or what?
Does anyone know about it?
Any details helpful
Cheers!

Basically it is a Transformer Prime that will have a higher resolution screen, 3G/LTE in some models and a slightly higher price tag. It also has a partially plastic back panel which should improve GPS and WiFi performance.
Is it worth waiting for? I'm a student, any information on the price range yet?

It will also have gorilla glass 2 on it. Price range being thrown around is $599 for 32gb and $699 for 64gb.
The processor is supposed to be a little faster and a higher resolution front facinf camera. It may not get as long of life for the battery, but the higher resolution, improved glass and hopefully better GPS and WIFI are a go for me.
I liked everything about my Prime except it seemed like the glass wasn't up to snuff, mine scratched while docked and also started micro cracking along the black bezel. So I sent it back waiting on this now.

not till end of June or july. Price, supposedly starts at $599 for 32gb wifi model. lte model much more expensive. Likely $699+data plan.

I don't see the need for that high resulotion on a 10,1 tablet. The battery life will probably get worse unless they put in a bigger one. That's what apple had to do with the new lolpad anyway
I do however see the point of the plastic cover making wifi and gps better. I don't have any wifi issues myself on my "c2" prime but gps is not that good. But i don't use it anyway. Got gps built into my car and if i'm on foot looking for something i just use my phone

Depends on when you need a tablet, and if you need a higher resolution screen or 3g/LTE.
If you need/want a tablet right now, the Transformer Prime is excellent. If you don't it might be worth waiting for. The WiFi model is allegedly going to start off at $599 for the 32GB model, which would make the 64GB model priced at around $699.
The 3G/LTE models will probably start off at $699 for the 32GB model and go up from there. There is no solid info on what networks the 3G/LTE models will be compatible with and if they are carrier exclusive that will affect the price.
The TF Infinity is rated at 9 hours of battery life, instead of the 10 that the Prime is rated for. Also it will be pushing more pixels with only a slightly updates processor so performance wise it might be a little bit slower (WiFi model, anyway).
If Price is an issue, Asus is also releasing the Transformer Pad 300 which is nearly identical to the Prime, however it loses the Super IPS screen capability (its less bright at maximum screen brightness) and comes with only 16GB of internal storage. It also comes in brighter colors (red, blue & white) has a plastic back (which will improve WiFi and GPS) and a price tag expected to start at $399.
Nobody mentioned it is also a different proccesor.
It runs a 2 core snapdragon (if I remember right).
That brings up other issues.
I know the difference between 2 cores at "x" speed can be as fast or faster than 4 cores at "x" speed IF the code is written to take advantage of it. Remember that the 5 core Nvidia Tegra platform has a lot of support so I am hesitant to say this new one will be as fast.

You have to guarantee that the TF-700 is really going to be released in June/July. If I remember correctly the TF-201 was supposed to be released in November, but it wasn't really available in the UK until February. If this happens again, you might have to wait until September/October for the new tablet.

The rumors indicated that the TF700T will be launched in the June/July time frame. However there has been no official word from Asus on the matter, and even if they are "released" in June/July they might be in very short supply for several months after that.
The TF Prime was technically released in November, but most retailers are just now starting to get a steady stock of them.

To be honest I'm having trouble finding a prime in the UK anyway. I mean I'm in London and I can't even find a store with a bloody display model so I can play with it before I actually buy it. Does anyone know of any shops in London who hold stock in-store so I can use one?

only if you have a Gamestop store that carries tablets. possibly Bestbuy should have them. maybe an office depot.

I definitely second that thought. Prime is the undisputed king of tablets right now and by the time TF700 comes out, the competition will be much tougher (other Tegra3 tablets or windows tablets). There are a lot of uncertainties coming with the TF700 also. No guarantee on the exact launch date, and like everybody mentioned, Asus is quite inacurate when it comes to precise dates. No guarantee that the battery life will be as awesome. No guarantee that the plastic cover will totally erase the issues with GPS and Wifi performance.

Joncy...your best bet is to pop into a currys as they have them on display when theyu have stock and they should be ablt to check on their systems to see which shops have them in stock. PC World (same group) can also do the same, but for some reason the staff do not seem as interested or as helpful as the currys staff!!
I don't know if carphone warehouse shops have any on display in their shops but if there is one locally it might be worth a punt!!
The other option is to get one from ebuyer or Amazon and use the 7 days distance selling regs to try out the TFP...the trouble with this option is that it will cost you 500 sovs for the pleasure and given that amount of testing time you might be more tempted to keep it once you have played with it.
Remember there are far more happy punters out there than unhappy ones.
One little tip is that when booting for the first time you might think that there is light bleed (I did) but once it is fired up and displaying whatever, this is nowhere near so visible.
Good luck
Andy

I would suggest you wait for the 700. The 700 is going to replace the Prime no matter what other people tell you. For $100 more you are getting a higher res screen, option of LTE for another 100, and wifi and gps that actually function. If it weren't for Prime owners complaining, ASUS would've slipped the Prime under the rug like it never happened. There is no reason for ASUS to have so many lines of products with such minor differences.
Also, because of the aluminum backing, the Prime has significantly crippled wifi range. The range is weaker than my 3 year old Sony x10 phone. So if your University is like mine in which the wifi isn't the greatest everywhere on campus then that might become a problem.

Also, because of the aluminum backing, the Prime has significantly crippled wifi range. The range is weaker than my 3 year old Sony x10 phone. So if your University is like mine in which the wifi isn't the greatest everywhere on campus then that might become a problem.

For students, I would think the TF300 might be more probably price range.

What do you think the price will be?

Okay there's 2 versions and no price, what is your estimate of what the official price will be when the surface is released?

Ballmer said that the prices will be competitive with other tablets (Surface "RT" is a premium one) and ultrabooks (mainstream ultrabooks usually have i5 processors, but that screen shall be expensive) so I think that:
Surface RT = US$500,00 - just to catch up with the iPad, frankly the only successful premium tablet on the market
Surface i5 = US$1000,00 - A little higher than other Windows ultrabooks, because of the better screen and casing
a lot.
I REALLY HOPE that i5 model is $1000, it looks neat on paper, it is competitive with air and other ultrabooks. I mean i REALLY dig the PEN INPUT!! I am gonna love doing some art stuff on this and waste a **** load of time.
has to be under 550
to make me wanna get rid of my Transformer or let my son use it, though I am very interested in the surface tablet
My guess is that:
RT = $500
i5 = $900

This is about what I think as well, I personally think the i5 will be (just) under $1000 so that it can get more sales. Remembering of course that these are Microsofts first tablets made by them they will not want anything that expensive that nobody will make the purchase.
Surface RT = US$700.00
Surface i5 = US$1200.00
I think the fact that is a new idea and new product alone makes the price a lot more than what it actually should be... I think it might be more expensive, but I don't want to get too crazy with my guessing
i hope the surface can be cheap because if it s very expensive, i think i buy a tablet with atom processor (viewsonic for 2750 yuan, or lenovo pad1 or hasee)
I think the price will be
Surface RT - 400-450$
Surface i5 - 600-700$
Intel announced to produce much cheaper Ultrabooks in a Pricerange about 700$
So Surface should land in same range...
I'm German, so excuse my bad language
PS: In another Forum i saw announcements of priceranges between 399$(RT) and 499$(i5) for its cheapest productversion...there would be some stupid looks from the competitors
That seems to say its only for celeron processors though

Once you reach $1000, it's not technically the same tablet as we know of now. It'll be an ultratablet. So basically, an ultrabook with a detachable keyboard.
I do really like the Surface Pro because of the two digitizers and the Windows 8 Pro OS Version. I were always looking for a smaller mobile device for note taking and sometimes to deliver presentations. I planned to get a Windows 8 convertible but now MS announced this I'm willing to pay between 500€ and 600€ for this device. If it is more expensive I will go with a convertible. A full convertible would offer more connections (more USB, HDMI, etc.) and most likely a drive for optical media as well. On a side note, I'm interest how the cooling works on the Windows Surface Pro and how it will work out over a few years.

In the keynote they actually say how the cooling works, and i think it was some special form of cooling but I can't exactly remember, we check about halfway through the live coverage on the verge, they say how it works

I would think $599 for the RT, and $899 for the Pro.
This depends upon the inclusion, or lack there of, of the keyboard accessories. Those would make the price higher IMO.
I think the price will be
Surface RT - 400-500$
Surface i5 - 800-900$
I think that if the RT version aims to be a true iPad competitor, the price needs to be at least $50-$100 less than the 3rd-gen. iPad. I think $450 is the sweet spot. I think the x86 version will be somewhere between $800-$1000.
I'm thinking in order for Microsoft to compete with the Ipad, they are really going to have to keep the price as low as possible. IPad has so much name recognition, that people are usually going to choose it over the Surface just for that reason. I've heard pretty good things about windows phones, but only actually know one person that uses one.
I wouldn't pay more than 700 bucks for a tablet.

Infinity: Why so expensive still?

Hey guys I currently have a Prime, and selling it so that I can get a new or slightly new Infinity but the issue I am running into is that they are still so expensive.
They still retail for $499 (32GB model), and people are selling them for around the same price on eBay for used. Is there going to be a price drop on these soon? How long should I wait to buy one?
I guess this is a good thing because they are clearly holding their value, but given the recent price drop on Refurbished Ipad's (3rd Gen), I would think that Asus would somewhat follow suit to keep things competitive.

Get the Nexus 10. $100 cheaper for 16gb. Or same price for 32gb and way better.

I saw the specs on the Nexus 10 and they are impressive, but I really like the functionality about the Transformer series. The idea of using it as a tablet/laptop is very ideal, being that I do not own a PC at home.
Does the Nexus 10 have HDMI out? That would be make or break for me if it didn't.
The Nexus 10 has MicroHDMI, just like the TF700.
You'd need a dongle or adapter to connect a normal HDMI cable.

Yeah, I just saw the specs on the Nexus 10 and they are pretty impressive (display), but I still like how the TF looks over the Nexus. The Nexus looks like a larger phone to me.
Plus, adding the keyboard to the TF just makes it look and seem so awesome. I guess in the end it comes down to price and reliability. I've heard stories about the TF, but since the Nexus 10 isn't even on shelves yet, I am sure that people will start to run into problems, just like any new device.
Difference: Nexus 10 = $399 (16gb) | TF700 = $488 (32gb)
I for one am very satisfied with my TF700. I find the docking keyboard to be really useful and the extra battery it contains is a nice touch. I personally haven't been hit by any of the quality control issues people have brought up on the forums and performance has been fine for what I think of as pretty heavy use.
The Nexus' 2GB of RAM is attractive, but on my TF700 I've always had more than 250MB of RAM free even with an animated live wallpaper, tons of desktop widgets, and a few floating apps open. I can see 2GB of RAM being important for futureproofing, as even Android acquires bloat with OS revisions and it would be nice to rely on a device for a few years into Android 5.0 or 6.0.
The Nexus series also tends to be more friendly to developers. Asus allows one to unlock their tablet, but Asus could stand to make it easier and if they ever shut down the server required for the unlock process, users would be SOL. With the Nexus devices it's generally as simple as entering one command through the Fastboot tool. Also, Asus has moved to crypto key signature checking for their newer bootloaders which prevents using the NVFlash tool for low-level pre-boot file management. So if you're planning on unlocking the device and you're lucky enough to get one running an earlier bootloader, unlock it as soon as you get it!
