When I press the volume rocker, I can only control the volume of the app I'm in. I don't have the settings icon to get the drop down to control the other volume controls. Am I missing a setting? I would rather not flash a custom ROM for this simple feature... I know my N7 tablet has it. Thanks.

i would also love this option, i hope someone know a zip file for this
If you install xposed framework and the gravity box module you can add that option http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47771876&postcount=5621

Has anyone seen or is aware of a function on stock ROM called Flicker? If you check out the CQA.apk, when performing a display test, there is a function called Flicker. When you swipe the screen upwards from the bottom of screen it hides the virtual navigation bar, and the same action makes it reappear. If this is a native function built into the system, would it be available to be used at will when using other applications? It would be great to hide the nav bar whenever you want, to open up screen space, with a simple swipe. It would be nice if a dev with knowledge of compiling could check into this and see if it's a function that can be enabled within the system and not only for the CQA test app (which if I'm not mistaken is for engineers of the Q to test functionality of all hardware on system).

In CM10 you can use 'Expanded desktop' option from power menu (the menu displayed after you hold down the power button) to hide/unhide the virtual navigation bar.
Just make sure that the 'Expanded desktop' item is enabled under Settings>System>Power menu.

Unfortunately I wish to remain stock and still mod my system, no need for cm10 until cdma is functional on it...is there a way to enable that same function on asa14? And still, has anyone heard of "Flicker!?

I think I saw you in the Franco thread. If you're still using his kernel change the vibration in the kernel settings to 0

So far, everything about the Nexus 5 is fantastic. One minor issue I am running across is related to the popup keyboard. For starters, I am using the GravityBox Pie Controls (always enabled feature). They are great, but the constant softkeys popping up when using any keyboard makes it quite annoying.
I looked on Xposed Framework and did not see any module that rectifies this minor annoyance.
Does anyone know of a way to disable the softkeys completely when using any android keyboard?
Bump as I have yet to find a solution to this problem.

I use gravitybox for expanded desktop + pie and have never had the softkeys pop up when using the keyboard, on either of my phones. Are you using actual expanded desktop or immersive mode with gravitybox?

Expanded desktop. I believe it is set to hide navigation bars. I'll try playing with the settings.

Are you stock on your Moto X?
I suffer this same annoyance (as the OP) with Immerse Me module. The newest Gravity Box mod was to fix this but it breaks Desktoo Mode. Only "hide nav bar" and sem-immersive" mode work. Semi-immersive acts just like hide nav bar as you can't swipe to restore the nav bar.
I just use immerse me for now and deal with the keyboard and volume bug. Running stock root Moto X Dev VZW.

Yeah, stock rooted. Have you tried the App Settings module? It allows you to set immersive mode on a per app basis. Not sure if it will solve your problem but it's worth a shot.

I will try it.
What version of Xposed and GravityBox are you using?
I am using 2.4.1 (xposed) 2.9.4 (GB)
*update* Just tried App Settings and it still suffers from same keyboard and volume issues.

My X is on 2.2 for Xposed and 2.6.3 for GB. I'm still on Jelly Bean on my Moto X.
My N5 is on 2.4.1 for Xposed and 2.8.6 for GB.
What volume issues are you talking about?
I've searched, and I can't find out how to turn off the google now option when holding the home button. It's annoying as hell, and I never use it. Is there something I'm missing?
Go to your apps and look for Google Settings. Tap on Search and Now. Drag the button to the off position and you're done.
If you're talking about the ring navigation thing, Gravity Box has mods for it that work on this device. You can change/add targets or disable the ring altogether

I have a Nexus 5 that it's NOT rooted and I don't intend to root it anytime soon, but everytime you swipe up from the bottom of the screen that damn Ring pops up (like the pie controls), I recently found a pie control that doesn't require root and I wanted to use it but the damn Ring comes up instead (i dont want the pie to be on the sides)
how do I turn that ring off and is there a way to Auto-Hide the Navigation Bar?
If you want to modify stock behaviour, you'll need to root. Gravitybox let's you disable the nav ring

There are multiple simple apps that help you do this. Some are more elegant, some are less.
One example:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hk.sld.SwipeLaunchDisabler
I know there are better apps but I cannot recall their name at the moment.
But it looks like it doesn't completely go away, but i'll try
