Rumrunner S-off for HTC One XL!
Firstly let me say that this isn't my own work, all credit goes to @beaups and @Fuses for bringing this to our device.
Rumrunner is a new method for achieving s-off on HTC devices. This method does not require SuperCID like Facepalm, the only requirement on your device is root and an unlocked bootloader.
So, all you people that took the latest update from HTC that gave you write protection on the 2.15 firmware/hboot, this method should give you s-off.
This is just a simple thread to get this method some exposure for users with our device. As per the licensing section on the site and beaup's wishes I cannot include the download or instructions in this thread. However, we can have this thread serve as a troubleshooting/help location for the One XL. Alternatively, support for rumrunner s-off is available at #rumrunners on the freenode and andirc networks. Please make sure you meet all of the requirements before contacting support.
Rumrunner S-off.
Please go give beaups and Fuses a bunch of thanks for their work!

Nice, for some reason I never soff'd my phone yet. Time to do it.
This does wipe system correct?
I haven't tested it myself as I got s-off on my phone ages ago. Best thing to do would be to backup anything that's important. Please report back with your findings.

YEAHHH, u' re rock rumrunner, success to s-off for my telstra one x hboot 2.15, but why my cid is still TELST001 ?? no problem if i try to flashing any rom ??
Your CID is still TELST001 because you've never gotten SuperCID. Rumrunner gives you s-off but it doesn't change your CID. Now that you have s-off you can change your CID manually as many times as you want by using this command:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid xxxxxxxx
The x's there represent the new CID, if you want SuperCID it will be 11111111 (eight 1's).

Hey tim, i am SO stoked to see that this has been released.. just having some issues getting through the process, the usb drivers are updated, the adb connection is working, i tested the connection before running rumrunner, the phone itself resets through the first test, it loads into fastboot, then resets a second time into android os, at which point it has the error 'must ferment longer.... must sanitize, skunky rum is nasty. hold please...' then it just says press enter to exit no s off.. i am ruing kickroidXL v3.0.0 which runs adroid 4.2.2 sense 5.0 and obviously im on hboot 2.15. perhaps if i restore my original system image i will have some more luck?
attached is a screenshot of my rumrunner shell
You could try restoring your backup, or flashing back to an Android 4.1 ROM and attempt it again. I'm not sure whether either of those will help but it's worth a shot. If you don't have any luck you can contact the guys for support on freenode or andirc.

Hi, I recently purchased an HTC one X and I get a message with red letters saying "this build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside of htc", also my htc has been ramdomly rebooting, I want to go back to the stock ROM because I think I might have a custom one and that can be the cause of the random rebooting.
I have the 4.1 oficial firmware but I am affraid to flash it because my phone can become a brick.... The phone was rooted with SuperSU but I have uninstalled it and checked with titanium and I can no longer get superuser rights(I suppose I have succesfully unrooted my phone), I have also checked on bootlader and I have S-ON so I dont know if I am under conditions to flash the oficial firmware without risk(I dont want a brik). I want the original firmware because of the upcoming 4.2 and sense 5.0 update HTC will be releasing.
Thanks in advace for your help.

Is that all??? with S-OFF there is absolute no risk of briking??
Nonononono there's a tradeoff. Because once you supercid you brick if you ruu while s-on. So you need to s-off so as not to brick while RUUing. Technically because there are no longer security checks you have a greater amount of risk If you do something stupid.

Just flash a stock rooted Rom would be my advice.. what are you gaining from ruu? Look at cleanrom, it's forsurely the most stable for this phone... Just my 2 cents cause if ya don't know what you're doing or are comfortable using adb odds are is you will booger up your new to you phone..

Updated firmware that is not part of the ROM. If you read the top post of CleanROM, its recommended to RUU first. Its not "required", but some folks have found it helpful to resolve some issues, like random reboots.

Nothing you do to your phone can remove all risk of bricking when you flash. There is always a risk.
But if you have S-On and SuperCID, and try to install certain OTAs or RUUs, a brick is certain (known brick condition).

You are confused about what CleanROM is. That is just the stock rooted ROM, not CleanROM.
This is CleanROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655011
In the top post you will see under Installation: •Highly recomend lates Jellybean firmware and S-Off!
Scrosler doesn't explicitly say "RUU", but this is what he means.

If you are S-on and SuperCID (which your phone likely is), and try to take the 3.18 Jellybean OTA, or run the 3.18 RUU, you will brick.
S-off will at least prevent bricking from this particular condition. The other option is change back to the AT&T CID.
Hello,
Upon many google searches I have come to believe that this phone has updated above 4.0.4.
I have complications updating so I came here with the following questions:
Did the at&t HTC one x finally get jellybean, or is that for other models?
if yes how can I update because I see get an error on the at&t software update tool, and I don't see anything in the "about" tab for updating like in other models.
Thanks
Edit: I forgot to mention I'm stock and unrooted.

According to the bootloader text, the phone was previously bootloader unlocked, and then relocked. Its probably also SuperCID, since this is the only way to unlock the bootloader on the AT&T version. Phone is also S-on.
Be aware that installing the AT&T Jellybean RUU with SuperCID + S-on will brick the phone. Advise you either change the phone back to the AT&T CID, or achieve S-off prior to running RUU or OTA or you will brick.

Selling an S-off device to an unknowing consumer is not the best idea.
Probably better to change the CID back to the correct CID (if device is presently SuperCID), then run the RUU. Be aware that running the RUU with SuperCID will brick the phone.

Hilariously sarcastic! But it provides a great illustration. I think one time someone stated they were losing signal without providing details... My response was something like "are you underwater in a submarine... At 20,000 feet in an airplane?"
But to add to timmaaa's response, the more details you provide the more beneficial our responses will be, and will also keep us from running around in circles trying to figure out your problem.

Firewater S-off for HTC One XL!
Firstly let me say that this isn't my own work, all credit goes to @beaups and @Fuses for bringing this to our device.
Firewater is a new method for achieving s-off on HTC devices.
For everyone that has taken the 5.18 at&t update before unlocking you should be able to use Firewater. It has a temp root feature which will enable you to get s-off on your device, once you have s-off you can get SuperCID via a simple fastboot command (fastboot oem writecid 11111111), then you can unlock your bootloader at htcdev. I'd really appreciate any feedback on whether this works for you.
Your situation is the situation I'm really interested in, we really need to find out whether it's possible to unlock the bootloader after taking the 5.18 update. Let me know how you go.

Doesn't work for me.
Stock at&t 4.2.2 (firmware 5.18), bootloader locked, s-on. Output on temproot:
[*] Attempting to acquire root. This will take 5-10 minutes, be patient
error in setsockopt().
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred address.
Failed to get commit_creds address.
Failed to get ptmx_fops address.
Failed to setup variables.
Well that's a shame, thanks for the feedback though. If anybody else can please attempt this also that'd be great.

I agree we need a few more people to test, as new as the guy that did test is. it could be a simple mistake as having anti virus on the computer, etc.

I tried it under linux with no antivirus, in windows (7) -- antivirus off. Everything done according to "Instructions (temp-root method)". What other mistakes could be?

I can't think of any. You might try entering a root shell after running the temp root, just to verify that is what is failing

I'll give it a go. I'll tell you all if it works out. (AT&T One X)
*UPDATE* I had no luck. same error as the last guy
error in setsockopt().
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred address.
Failed to get commit_creds address.
Failed to get ptmx_fops address.
Failed to setup variables.
I'm going to be receiving another HTC One X soon. I can only assume that it will be on the 5.18 firmware so I will try this method. If not... off to Mobiletechvideos for S-Off.
I got the sane errors

Confirm NOT working on 5.18 firmware
Since I like to run the updated AT&T ruu whenever they come out WeakSauce-1.0.1.apk worked great for temp root and to get everything going again without needing pc after initial ruu. I was wanting to test stock for abit then was on the road and wanted to go custom and weaksauce worked perfect.
I am on 5.18. temproot gives the same errors others have posted. Weaksauce enables a successful su but firewater fails, not always with the same messages. I would love for this to work, but it looks like I'm just going to get any M8 anyway and make sure I s-off while the exploits still work on it.
Just did s-off on mine tonight and then super-cid. Mine also hung up at chugging. Exited the program and ran it again successfully. I am overjoyed now. Many thanks to the devs.

So, you successfully obtained root and S-Off on a stock One X on the newest OTA (4.2.2)?
