If I'm on my linux box in chrome looking at an app on the google play web interface and click "install" and select my Nexus 5, 100% of the time I get a downloading notification on the Nexus 5 followed in a few seconds by a "error downloading app" popup. If I get on the Nexus 5 itself, search for the app in the play store and click on install it works perfectly.
Have I got some setting that makes this fail? Is it just generally busted? It is certainly no big deal, but it is irritating.
Try unlinking your account in your account settings then try again, from what I can see (my end at least) there isn't really an explanation for it.
Hi !
When i try to transfer a photo via NFC from my note 2 to Nexus 5, instead to have my picture transfer my nexus enters Google Play Store. When i try just to transfer an app, it works perfectly but transferring a photo it enters Google play store, i don't why. Any one that had the same issue, or any fixing thoughts ?
PS: My Nexus is sending photos, But it can't receive any, it enters playstore.
I am mad as hell.
I wanted to enable Google Now but in Google Settings I receive the message "Google Now requires location services which are not available".
Googled, found several "hacks", great. I tried the one where you unistall updates/disable Google Play services, etc... and I get the message to activate Google Now, but when I choose so and login with my email I get "This account is not eligible to use google now".
I tried this with 2 different gmail accounts, always get the same message. There are no info on Google about this problem.
Anyone has any idea how to enable google now? I need it, I love it, and I think I am going to break my nexus 5 if I can't have it.
By the way, I am on the latest developer L build (didn't work on 4.4.4 too, I kinda updated only because of the hope that it may work on L).
Also, on my Nexus 7 (2012) google now works great although I am using the same gmail account.
Any help is appreciated!

Google Location services are not available in all countries (which is fine) but Google Now shouldn't explicitly need location services. Location services are not available in my country and Google Now still works with no problems on my Nexus 5 and worked on my Nexus 7 (2013) before I updated to the L Developer preview (using the Play Services - Uninstall updates trick) and still shows me location weather information, appointments, news updates, delivery updates, time to work.home, time to get to the location of my next appointment, etc... all without being able to enable location services. I don't understand why Google would limit their service when it clearly works with no problem but has no problems pushing out beta apps to everyone which clearly have issues (new hangouts desktop app).
The Play Services trick did not work on 5.0 for me either. If I do find a way around it I'll let you know.
UPDATE: Managed to get it working with the following steps:
1. Logged out of Google search app
2. Uninstall Play Services updates
3. Connect to a Free UK VPN (I used this: http://www.bestukvpn.com/)
4. Ask Google to remind you of something and select the opt in to Google Now option
5. Go through the steps to enable Google now.
6. When you get the "This account is not eligible to use Google now" click on search bar and search for anything
7. Open the hamburger menu while in search (click on the menu icon or slide from the left)
8. You will notice that you are not signed in. Select sign in and select your account.
9. Viola you will get the opt in to Google now option again and you should then have Google Now
That's what worked for me. Ask Google to remind you of something to make sure its working. Hope this helps .

Did you try creating a reminder using Google Now after the 8th step. Make sure you are still connected to the VPN. You have to open chrome after connecting to the VPN to verify the connection. A simple search should bring up a window to accept the VPN terms and conditions.

I am connected to the VPN, I can confirm by searching for my IP, it says I got a London IP.
After the 8th step when I try to create a reminder (remind me to thank johnmall1441) nothing happens... in fact, the program closes itself like it was killed. I don't have another device currently to record the screen and show what I am doing and what happens...

Location Services
Hi all, this morning I went into Google Search settings and I could finally enable Google Location Services. This is what was blocking Google Now. With it enabled you shouldn't have to jump through hoops to opt-in. Try checking your location services settings in the Google Search app . They may have enabled it for a number of new countries.
Quick Tip: If the opt-in screen doesn't show up automatically, sign-out and sign-in in the Google Search app. Hope this helps.
Still not eligible ?
Tried v p ns and airplane mode

How to uninstall google play services updates? I only saw disable option.
I'm frustrated... All methods I can find not working, it used to be easy to turn on google now in 4.4.4.

The only option is to disable play service and by doing so it removes the google account altogether in official lollipop build.
couldnt get google now in lollipop!!!!
Cant get google now by applying any of the fixes above!!!!!!!common you can do better than this????
the above solution does not work. I performed a full wipe and install of latest lollipop release. I have no uninstall updates button. Only "Force Stop" and "Disable" both greyed out. Not rooted.
hopefully a solution will appear soon.
Finally Got Google Now Working in Lollipop_Nexus 4
1. Switch Off the Phone
2. Remove sim card
3. Do a Hard Reset
4. Skip Wifi Settings and everything else
5. Once skipped all the settings steps, deactivate Location
6. Activate Wifi
7. Use VPN (bestukvpn Posted by jonmall1441)
8. Activate google now and add your google account
9. Enjoy!!!!!!!

Nexus 4
- If your phone is on, turn it off.
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
- Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery mode."
- Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
- While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
- Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.
- Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.
This seems to be a complicated problem so I am going to do my best to explain the issue, and how I got here.
Problem:
When I open the Android Device Manager on a web browser using my main Google account, ADM says that I have "no active devices", however I have both Nexus 6P and a Nexus 7 (2013) both running the latest Marshmallow March security update.
When I open Android Device Manager on either device, the panel that lets your select your device never finishes loading and will constantly show a loading circle.
I also have my work email (a Gmail account) on my phone, and if I sign in to Android Device Manager on my phone or the web I can locate my phone just fine, so it clearly is an issue with my Google account.
What I have tried:
Ensure location is enabled
Ensure all device administrator and Android Device Manager settings are enabled
Device is not set to "hidden" in my Google Play settings
Clear data on Google Play Services
Remove work email from phone
Factory reset
Upgrade to Android N preview
Downgrade back down to latest Marshmallow release
Another odd thing I noticed is that the new Android Beta page for enrolling in the Android N preview does not show my Nexus 6P while using my main email, however my work email does show it. I even called Google support yesterday and troubleshooted for an hour and by then end they said that they were resetting something to do with my location which should take 15-30 minutes, and they would call me back. I never got a call back, so I am avoiding calling them until I seek more help.
Does anyone manage to use "Link to Windows"/"Your Phone Companion" with Note 10?
I got the Note 10 recently.
I'm trying to make it work with the "Your Phone" app on Windows 10, which is supposed to be really easy considering that "Link to Windows"/"Your Phone Companion" are preinstalled on the phone.
I managed to connect the phone to my Microsoft account (I see it at the portal). I also managed to get it listed in the "Your Phone" app on my laptop. The problem is, the app is blank. Basically, it's unable to fetch any information from the phone (Notifications/Messages/Photos/Apps). When I try to refresh, it always gets to the "We can't connect to ... Note 10. Make sure that your PC and phone are connected to the Internet." error. The app is for sure connected to the phone because "Open phone screen" works flawlessly, but nothing else does.
The phone itself shows the "Connected to your PC" notification and also shows that it's connected to my laptop in Settings -> Advanced features -> Link to Windows.
Things I checked so far:
1. The Windows "Your Phone" app is latest version.
2. The "Link to Windows"/"Your Phone Companion" are both latest version from the Galaxy Store.
3. I also tried the version of "Your Phone Companion" from Play Store (it's newer) - same result.
4. All required permissions are granted to the "Your Phone Companion" app on the phone.
5. Both laptop and phone are connected to the same WiFi (no AP isolation on the router).
6. Also tried allowing mobile data and disconnecting the phone from WiFi - same result.
7. The phone is for sure connected to the PC over bluetooth.
8. Windows 10 is latest (2004 build 19041.508).
9. Phone is also latest (N970FXXU6DTH7/N970FOXM6DTH7).
It's really frustrating, and any help will the highly appreciated.
P.S. To anyone asking why I would want to use this service - I want a way to minimize distractions from my phone during work. Basically, this way, I will be able to see (and ignore) all the notifications from the phone on my laptop + answer/ignore calls via the headset that's always connected to the laptop without ever looking at my phone.
Things I can see interfering:
1. On the laptop I have 2 Microsoft accounts (work and personal). Although, both the app on the laptop and on the phone show my personal account in the Settings.
2. Missing drivers on the laptop. Although, Windows Update doesn't find anything and when the phone is connecting to the laptop via bluetooth is seem to be set-up properly.
Hello.
Today "your phone" app was updated with windows store..
So this new update bring ability also use the phone apps on windows desktop. Magnificent news
However before update things was perfectly working for me.
today, after the update,
I couldnt manage to connect.
I tried to change wifi , reset modem, change dns, turn of firewall, change different msn account.
Remove your phone app from windows and install again with powershell,
Clear data and chache of android app, giving full permissions + allowing notification reach access
Nothing worked for me.
The last step which the app says
"We will send notification.to your phone , press allow etc.."
Waits forever..
That notification never comes phone and process never completes.
So i feel it is from ms servers.

Thanks @m_carleone82, @Hansoliv, so at least I know I'm not alone with that issue.
I used to have the same problem, I believe it has something to do with debloated apps from adb, even after re-enabling them didn't help. Flashing the firmware was my option and now everything is working.
OK, so had some time on my hands today and eventually I fixed it.
I had to enable two things that are not mentioned anywhere in the Microsoft FAQs:
1. Enable "Share across devices". Enabling only "Nearby sharing" is not sufficient.
Settings -> System -> Shared experiences -> Share across devices
2. Allow "Microsoft apps can sign me in" for my secondary (personal) Microsoft account.
It's the default if you have only one account, but if you add another you can select "Apps need to ask me to use this account", which I did, because I don't want to mix personal stuff in the work laptop. But apparently "Your Phone" never asks...
Settings -> Accounts -> Email and accounts
Now everything works.
Works for me when I configured the first time, then never got connected again
Please disable battery save mode to use this app...
