Hi
I have a wireless charger and want to the display on when wireless charging, but not when wall os usb charging
Is there any app that controls that for nexus 5 ?
Thanks
Tasker should be able to do this no problem. I don't have a wireless charger yet to test with, but i see in tasker i can setup a profile "power wireless" and then add the task display timeout 23h. You can probably do indefinitely, but this was just first glance.

While Tasker is a paid app and I do realize it can be confusing at first glance, it is actually an incredibly powerful app and the gold standard when it comes to automating tasks on your Android device. If you are not willing to give that a shot, there are other automation apps you can try like Condi and Profile Flow that should emulate some of the features you are looking for. However, I would highly recommend checking out Tasker; it is one of those apps that you can't live without once you unlock its potential.

Tasker is definitely on my can't live without top 5 list. And i to looked at it the first time and said whaaa!?!!? I think it just looks more intimidating than it actually is. There's also lots of help out there for it. The new version that i'm on now with my n5 is much friendlier than the version i had on my atrix. On this one you can search for the thing you want and it will show you all available options ie wifi and then you setup your when how wheres.

there's an option to turn the screen on during charging in developer options.
but this will affect the wired charging too.

Using the option in Developer Options is not what they are looking for. Using Tasker will be your best option. I have too many profiles set up using Tasker on my Nexus 5 to count. Works like a charm. Tasker is a pain to set up initially but once it's up and running, tweaking becomes fun.
Find something on YouTube to learn it, you can easily set up your own test profiles/tasks.
I don't have wireless charging set up or i'd attempt this myself.
Edit: Open Tasker, go to Preferences and disable Beginner Mode then press back to get to Tasker main menu. (One vital note, Tasker will not initiate a new task you save unless you back out of each page until the app closes. Kind of a deeper save option.)
1. Press the + in the bottom right corner
2. Tap "State"
3. Tap "Power" and then "Power" again
4. Change the Source from "Any" to "Wireless"
5. Hit the Left arrow in the top left to go back
6. A mini-menu will appear to choose a task for the profile you just created.
7. Hit "New Task" +
8. Enter task name (Ex: Display Always On)
9. Hit the + in the center at the bottom
10. Tap "Display"
11. Tap "Display Timeout"
12. Now you should see sections titled "Secs", "Mins" and "Hours".
---Tasker has disabled the option to keep your display on, so you can just set a long timeout---
13. After selecting time, hit the Left arrow in the left corner to go back, repeat once more, hit back until the app closes.
14. Enable wireless charging and if all is correct, in your Notification Drawer, Tasker should show an active profile.
Has anyone used Llama and Tasked? I use Llama for the same reasons tasked seems to work for. Just wondering if one is better

Like let's say I connect to my home WiFi, I want to automatically sync on and lower the brightness to 1/4 of the way (just an example lol). Is there any app out there BESIDES TASKER that can do stuff like that? Tasker is really complicated IMO and I don't know how to use it. I'd prefer a much simpler app that I can use to do stuff like in the first sentence. Thanks to any suggestions!
PS- Just got a $25 Play Gift card, so it can be a paid app
Try an app called "Trigger".

I want to create simple stuff such as.... Connect to my home Wifi shuts off mobile data and turns off my pattern unlock security. Connected to work Wifi puts my phone on mute and turns off pattern unlock security. Battery drops below 20% and power saving mode gets enabled automatically (Galaxy S5)... Etc. Just stuff like that.
Also on a side note... How is tasker on the RAM, resources and battery? Just curious.
You can use NFC Tools and NFC Tasks

Hello everyone,
This guide is for non-rooted, stock-firmware phones. It is geared more towards getting good stand-by times, but of course this will also benefit screen-on time. It has some OnePlus-specific things but also many non-specific to one manufacturer. It does not contain miracle information, but from my experience it can help quite a bit. It assumes that you keep phone, mobile data, Wi-Fi and sync enabled at all times. Those are core features of any phone and are not means to save battery. The optimization steps are listed in the order which I think impacts battery life. You may or may not apply some or all of the things listed, depending on your own needs.
So:
1. Go to Settings->Battery->Battery optimization->[tap on the 3 vertical dots on the upper right corner] and enable the phone's "Advanced Battery Optimization" (aka. Aggressive Doze) feature, while at the same time whitelisting apps from which you need instant notifications, like Whatsapp or Outlook, etc. For other apps notifications may be delayed. Some applications like AdBlock Plus for Samsung browser also need whitelisting to work properly. Just go by trial and error with finding which applications need whitelisting.
2. Enable "Developer Mode" by going to Settings->About Phone and tapping 7 times on the "Build Number". Then go to Settings->Developer Options and enable the "App Wi-Fi Multi/Broadcasting Filter" option. I did not find any app impacted negatively by this, even casting to Chromecast works fine.
3. Go to Settings->Display->Ambient Display and disable the "Lift up display" and "Wake screen on notifications" options (which are useless compared to a true Always-On Display option anyway), and instead put the phone's RGB notification LED to good use. The Light Flow (one of many, but in my opinion the best) app can customize the LED color for different types of notifications, as well as setting a priority or cycling between colors. Since the LED's "always-on" nature, it is actually much more useful than a dead screen that only wakes up when lifted. When I use Light Flow, I set the LED blinking speed to "Always On" and a diffent color for each app. Works much better than any "ambient" mode.
4. Go to Settings->Display->Themes and enable the "Dark Theme". It reduces power consumption for OLED displays such as the one from the OnePlus 6.
5. Social media apps (especially Facebook) are battery hogs because they need to continuously gather your personal data and usage information. If you are only an occasional user, prefer uninstalling those apps and instead using the browser to access your account. This will also benefit you in other areas, like productivity
6. Keep Location off until you need it. This will ensure that the system does not wake up the GPS due to some obscure request from an app that can also work without knowing your location.
7. Go to Settings->Apps->Application list, tap on each app and review permissions. Remove Location permission for apps that you don't want to unknowingly wake up your GPS and draining your battery. I prefer to only allow Location access to Google Maps and Waze but your mileage may vary.
8. Disable Face Unlock. Activating the front camera so often does consume quite a bit of battery, as can be seen in battery stats. And as you may have read, it is not very secure anyway. As the rear-placed fingerprint sensor makes it almost unusable for me (for example I cannot unlock it while in the car cradle or on the desk), I chose to use the Smart Lock features with my Bluetooth smartwatch and my home Wi-Fi network and my phone stays unlocked while my smartwatch is around, which eliminates the necessity for both face unlock and fingerprint reader.
9. Prefer using software from companies that do not live from user data (like Google and Facebook). Collecting as much user information as possible requires wide system access and takes up a lot of battery. I like to replace Gmail with Microsoft Outlook (even for my Gmail addresses) and I use Samsung Internet instead of Chrome. The Samsung browser seems to be the most battery-efficient browser available, way above Firefox. Microsoft Edge may also be a good alternative.
10. Use an ad-blocker if supported by your browser. Animated ads and additional loading of ad-related content contributes quite a bit to the web browsing battery drain.
11. Go to Settings->Accounts->Google and for each Google account, tap on it and then disable syncing for information that you do not need synced. Clicking on a Google account shows you sections of info to be synced. Disable what you don't need. For example, you may only need Contacts syncing for your primary Gooogle account and not all of them. Same with Google Fit data, pictures, etc.
12. Go to Settings->Apps->Special Access->Usage Access and disable this access for OnePlus Switch and Google Play Store (not for Google Play Services, it may have unwanted side effects). This stops these apps from consuming system resources and battery to continuously collect usage data.
13. Go to Settings->Apps->Application list and disable applications that you don't need and can be disabled (some cannot be disabled).
14. Opt out of (do not enable) the "send diagnostic information" checkboxes whenever you are asked for, unless you are really selfless and want to give [a percentage of your battery life] to the community Go from app to app and see if it has this or similar setting (sometimes these settings are sugarcoated into "enhance your experience by sending your data to us"). Disable if found.
15. Do not enter your OnePlus account information. This will activate all kinds of data-sending services that will contribute to the battery drain.
16. Wipe cache after each update, especially if you notice worsened battery drain. To wipe cache, turn off the phone, then hold Power + VolDown buttons continuously until it starts, keep holding until a menu appears. After you enter your phone password you can choose "Wipe Cache/Data" section which brings another menu, choose "Wipe Cache" then after confirmation, choose Reboot.
17. If you are not using the landscape mode a lot, prefer to lock the phone rotation in portrait mode (the toggle is present among the quick toggles) and only unlock the rotation when needed. From what I have read, somehow the auto-rotation seems to unnecessarily cause some activity (even wake-locks), and from my experience I did see a bit of improvement from this tweak, looks like more than placebo.
18. If you already have a OnePlus 6, this does not apply. But if you are after ultimate battery life, keep in mind, less chips means less power draw if all else is equal, and RAM memory needs continuous refresh, so a model with 6GB of RAM may be a bit more power-efficient than one with 8GB RAM, especially given the fact that still-large 6GB of RAM virtually guarantees that there will be no extra overhead related too app reloading.
Hopefully this will help some people.
Below you will find some of my usual stand-by times after the optimization. Since update 5.1.7 battery life seems to be improved even further (see last 2 screenshots - with 5.1.7 and 5.1.8).
Thanks for all this. Most of the things I already did myself, but some of them actually make a lot of sense but I've never thought about it before.
Already very happy with the battery life I'm getting, but very curious if it will be even better now.
Thanks for this nice pice of guide!
All of this means nothing if you have really bad cell reception like me. -105 to -112 dBm at the office. Drains like hell in standby.

Dumb question, is Advanced Optimization (with some apps not optimized as needed) definitely more efficient than normal, with every app set to optimize as by default (and everything works)?
Why isn't there 3 settings for every app: not optimized, optimized, and advanced optimized?

As you may know, especially if you purchased your phone or accessories from the OnePlus website or accessed the OnePlus forums or support, you can create a OnePlus account online. At phone setup, OnePlus asks you to optionally enter this account for various benefits. Do not enter this information when/if asked. Or, if already entered, you can delete it from Settings->Accounts.

I was also facing this weird issue, then I noticed that the phone wasn't deep sleeping for some reasons, I rebooted it before going to sleep and it went to deep sleep fine and the drain was around 2% on LTE standby overnight. I will try different kernels too, currently using EX.
Having some issues with tasker on the pixel 3. I had the pixel 1 with android pie and had no issues. I migrated my profile and the tasks work if i play them manually but don't seem to work automatically 99% of the time. They also show green as if they should be active. It seems to have something to do with having the screen off. I have battery optimization turned off for the app and I have messed around with a few other settings. Does anyone know the magic combination to get it working? Or any idea what else may be wrong?
Example screnario...I get into my car, bluetooth connects, i wait and pandora doesnt turn on. I unlock the phone and go into tasker, the profile is green as if it is active but Pandora isn't playing. I then open the task and hit the play button and everything works as it should.
I can live without most of my tasks but I really miss Pandora automatically playing and exiting when connected to my bluetooth.
EDIT: My other tasks are hard to verify they aren't working. It seems that they may be working some/most of the time but Pandora has yet to launch while the screen is off. I have smart lock enabled so the phone should unlock when connected to my bluetooth.

I checked and it wasn't enabled. Enabled it but unfortunately the same issue happens. If i have the screen on everything works perfectly fine, screen off nothing happens. I am using always on display if that matters, its the only difference from my pixel 1 setup but I don't see why it would matter.
I also tried clearing all app data, uninstalling, reinstalling and setting up the pandora profile from scratch. Its such a simple task, I don't see why it isn't working. Profile below, selected options in parenthesis.
BT Connected (bluetooth device name) -> Pandora (Launch App Pandora)
Did you select the BT device from the list by tapping the magnifying glass? I have found that if I pair a device the name is the same but the profile won't work until I remove and add it again. Also, some have different modes. For example, my Bose BT headphones pair as "Bose SoundSport" initially, but then connect as "LE Bose SoundSport" after that, so profile trigger has both listed.
Another test I would do is to change the task actions to see if it's actually triggering the profile or if it's an issue with the task. I usually just do Alert > Flash and watch the screen when the profile should be triggering. If the flash works, something isn't working with the launch app action.
Hope this helps.
Edit: I guess I didn't clarify, the task I have with my Bose headphones launches Spotify and starts music (media control > next). It also sets the media volume to a comfortable level. The criteria for this profile is a variable (based on calendar to see if I'm at work or not) and BT connection.
I forgot it was there, but I use Secure Settings to wake the CPU when the task triggers. Not sure if this is still needed or not. I think it was needed at one point to launch with the screen off or something, but I haven't really changed this task for a few years other than updating the BT device name as described above.

Thanks for the input! I am heading out of town for a few days but I'll look into your suggestions when i return ( i wont have my car with me so i cant do any testing). I do think the profile works because it shows as green when i turn my screen on and open tasker. It also works perfectly fine if i have my screen on then start my car.
I think it may be working now (successfully tested one time) but I will need to use a bit more to be sure. The only thing I noticed is when reinstalling, i was prompted to allow the application to run in the background and chose yes. When the app was transferred from my old phone and I imported the backup, i dont recall ever getting this prompt. Not sure where this setting is found other than at the prompt. I will report back once i am home and can test some more.
okay so it doesn't appear to be working still. The task works fine when played manually, the profile runs the task successfully when the screen is on/off/locked. It does NOT work after phone has been idle for a while. I have battery optimization off for Tasker and when I check battery usage, I can see that tasker runs all day long. I have another task to dismiss email notifications at work and it works fine when the phone is idle.
Starting to test it with different actions like turning on the screen but I'm running out of ideas. Only other thought it Adaptive Battery....not very familiar with it.

Can you verify if the task runs at all? In other words, does Tasker successfully see the BT connection and activate the profile and the only thing that fails is Pandora playing?
If the profile actually kicks in, then it sounds like the phone needs to 'wake up' more before the Pandora action works.
I have a morning profile (runs based on time of day) that I had to add a wake screen step to to have all the actions work (I don't actually remember which action wasn't working -- it may have been that it didn't seen to run at all). I currently use the old Secure Settings plugin to do the screen wake because when I tried which auto- app has a screen wake action it didn't work.

This leads me to believe the bit I added for Secure Settings to wake CPU is what makes it work any time? The profile I have is very similar; %ATWORK = TRUE && BT connected to Bose SoundSport. Secure Settings wakes CPU only 20 seconds, launches Spotify, waits 5 seconds, simulates media control "next" then sets the volume to 10.
Can't hurt to try..
i added a task to vibrate the phone after trying to launch pandora. The phone seems to vibrate every time but pandora will only start if the screen is on. Thought it may be lock screen related so i totally disabled it, same results. Ill mess around with the secure settings tip above, the fact that it vibrates every time makes me think its something else though. Attached some logs below. Each set contains all logs from profile active to profile inactive.
EDIT --> work around found. Removing log in case there are any personal details
DELETED
DELETED
Comparing the logs in notepad++, they seem to be almost identical (with the exceptions of some of the timing of logs, had to move them around to match them up). The only difference I can see is the following lines and what appears to be Pandora starting up and exiting when it works ( events surrounded by #NLI: tickerText. The first line says True when screen is on and the second line is missing when pandora failed to load.
31-10-2018 M: 11.17.12#M: user present: false
31-10-2018 M: 11.17.12#M: startUAAA: need alarm: false
oddly enough... installing Secure Settings and using it to launch the same Pandora activity seems to work (so far)
Description
In light of not having a dedicated notification LED I set up some Tasker profiles to toggle the Accessibility setting Flash Notifications. I don't want it flashing while I'm using my phone, or while in my car on my wireless charging mount. This consists of 2 profiles and four tasks.
First profile will disable Flash Notifications when your screen is on and enable it when your screen is off, unless the Car profile says it's in your car and on your charger.
Second profile will disable Flash Notifications when it's connected to your car's Bluetooth (be sure to set it to your cars Bluetooth address), AND it's on the charger, unless the Screen profile says the screen is on, in which case the Flash Notifications will remain disabled until you turn you screen off. In my car, I use a wireless charger, so taking it off the charger disconnects power, and putting it back on the mount reconnects power automatically. My idea was that I don't want the Flash distracting other drivers, cuz they have a hard enough time being competent as it is. If you don't use a wireless charger or don't have Bluetooth in your car, you might have to tweak the activation of this profile to your specific case.
I have never shared a Tasker Profile before, so if anyone's interested in this and it doesn't import or something let me know.
Downloads
I am providing both downloadable attachments, and links to download from Tasker's site. You must also have Tasker and Tasker's helper app "Tasker Settings" installed.

I don't recall having to use adb to grant Tasker special permissions, but I will be doing a fresh install of this on my wife's phone tomorrow and will update if you need to.

Tasker
Tasker Settings Helper App
I don't recall having to use adb to grant Tasker special permissions, but I will be doing a fresh install of this on my wife's phone tomorrow and will update if you need to.

I'm a complete idiot when it comes to Tasker. I have compiled ROMs from source, made many Smali edits, built themes (all many years ago when I had time) but never spent the time to figure out Tasker.
I would like Tasker to disable Holey Light (see screenshot) when Do not disturb is turned on and re-enable it when Do not disturb is turned off. Would you know how to (or could you make a profile) do this?

I second this!!!!
Tasker looks like a super useful tool, but f*** why make it so complicated and not user friendly.
I recently tried MacroDroid and like it more, but its definitely limited compared to Tasker from what I've learned, but it did work while I used it.
To disable Holey Light while in DND would be very nice to have. Please advise.

I'm not sure if Tasker can change the settings of another app without said app already being programmed to be controlled by Tasker. I'll have to see if this is possible.
Also, considering Holey Light is still in beta and being developed, you might try contacting Chainfire and seeing if he can add this setting to the app natively.

He's looking into adding Do not disturb but I already found a workaround for my problem. In Holey Light I just turn off for it to work when charging and screen is off. I charge my phone every night so it works out fine for me.

Only way I can think of having Tasker control it as is, would be to enable disable notification permissions or Accessibility service, both of which require root to do and I have the unrootable US Snapdragon variant.
On another note, Sammy has already added a variation of ring notifications that I'm sure they will expand on. As if now, it works with system apps with screen on or off, and with user apps with screen on.

I appreciate it, I also have the unrootable US Snapdragon.
Samsung's current implementation of the notification light is just plain useless. It stays on for like 5 seconds.
Holey Light is working perfectly for me the way I have it set up.
Given the less friendly finger print reading I have taken to double tapping on the screen to turn it on. But relatively often it does not respond to a double tap. Is anyone else experiencing that?
The other one is that at many web sites I go to a pop up message box will come up asking if they can read my device's location. The answer box NEVER responds to a click. The screen will be dim. I have to back up 1 screen which closes the query box. I actually expect that one of my apps that have privileges to over write other apps is the culprit, but I don't see why they would mess with that one function, especially when at that moment those apps aren't being brought up. Any thoughts on this?
Increase screen sensitivity if you haven't already.
Yes I've experienced the double tapping unresponsiveness and decided to have AOD on all the time instead despite additional battery drain just to bypass this issue.

That's what I do on the 10+
Battery drain is slightly less than 1% @ hour.
For me it runs best/most efficiently with no power management* running other than the system power setting to optimized.
*some apks are package blocked otherwise all buckets show as active in Developer Options. If this is not the case unwanted power management is active.
I'm running Pie; not sure how Q will respond. I found it's best to let Android handle power management exclusively other than blocking serial power hogs like Google Backup Transport and Framework Services Framework. I don't use these.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is already active.
Here's another interesting thing: every now and then (actually several times during the course of a day) after turning the screen on the bio didn't with nor the location, and it forces me to enter the pin to get into the phone. I even have it set to not lock if hooked to my hearing aids and it still happens.

I keep my phone with me at all times, don't let others use it and never lock it. Makes life easier.
It's a steep learning curve with these devices... make sure it has the permissions it needs like being able to change system settings.

Hmmm... The setting to read it loud is a system setting itself (in Accessibility settings). I don't think there are any permissions to make. I did just look and nothing is apparent.

Permission to change system settings is in it's own listing apart from permissions in each app settings.
Could be more than one apk needed to make all work right.
Make sure power management not doing it.
In Developer Options>Standby Apps, all apps listed there should show as having their buckets as "active" if they not, power management is active.
You don't want that.

one of the apps is interfering as you correctly suspect
