I wanted to ask this same question myself.
I want to buy Nexus 7 tablet for my wife and kid daughter (3 years old, she usually plays games). I already bought Nexus 7 six months ago but I gave it to my niece. So I am planning to buy another. I am kind of confused right now between both of the devices.
I know there is considerable difference between Nexus 7 2012 and 2013. But is 2013 version really that much better to justify that much price difference, more then double.
Nexus 7 (2013) 32GB is selling for 24,000 Rs on Play store. And
Nexus 7 (2012) 32GB is selling for 10,800 Rs on Flipkart (with 10% discount).
Please suggest. Thanks
Well, double the price is always hard to justify, and the Nexus 7 2012 is a perfectly good device (i have one). Be warned though that its performance seems to have a tendency to degrade over time. Yes, i know about the TRIM issue, but even dealing with it (i just flashed a clean 4.4 image) it seems to me that it is slower then at the beggining. Maybe it's just my subjective perception, but i notice it.
Note that this performance degradation isn't noticeable in games. Everything that is CPU/GPU bound seems to run just as in the beggining (very well). But changing apps for instance causes some hiccups now and then.
I don't have a nexus 7 2013, but playing with one on a showroom i got the impression that it was significantly more responsive.
Just placed my order for Nexus 7 2012.

I have nexus 7 and it work slow under kit Kat 4.4. I have made clean installation from image. But it still has some lagging. I think that 2012 nexus has not good optimization for android 4.4. Nexuses with Qualcomm processors think work the better plus have ART compatibility. I think that 2013 is better choice. Because nexus 2012 has end it lifetime and think never receive new big update. Because Google support only 18 month devices.

Yes, 2012 might not get another major update but I think that is OK. Because I will not be using this tablet but my wife and lil daughter will, and they are not too tech savvy. So it's a win-win for everyone. Me happy coz it didn't hurt much to my wallet and they are happy coz, they have one more tool to play with.
Also, if we need to update, we can always get a custom rom.
I will be collecting this tablet today from my uncle's house. It is a surprise for my daughter.
Flipkart now selling 16 GB Nexus 7 2012 for 7,999 Rs only and 32 GB for 11,999 Rs only.
If you want to buy this one then hurry. You might not get better deal in future.
I purchased last weeks for 1000 Rs more.
Just placed order for Nexus 7 2013 because I think its better to have 1 good tablet instead of 2 nearly cramps........
Thanks to everyone.....
i personally prefer 2013 version =() but it all depends on your budget mate
Just like rl421403, just ordered a Nexus 7 2012 16gb Wi-Fi @7999 for my 6year old kid.. after much contemplating of whether to get a 2012 or 2013 nexus 7 for him! I think the 2012 nexus 7 (particularly at this spl. price) is the Best (gadget)deal I could think of for gifting my kid(who have just in class1) this Christmas!

Exactly my case.
I would have bought 2013 edition for myself, if I want it. But for my kid and wife, 2012 edition is more then enough. And they are really very happy too.
For this price this is a steal. I am happy that I bought it.

I've got both tablets but prefer my nexus 7 2012 because the 2013 is the same as my htc one in some ways but faster. Reason why prefer 2012 is the design is good, screen is good, capable of running everything at times slows down but gets the job done.
I have the 2012 32G wifi version.
It has been rooted and unrooted, I've tried cm 10 10.1 and 10.2. custom kernel at times.
Usually runs great after a new wipe and flash but always seemed to slow down after awhile.
It has been running the best since the Kit Kat upgrade especially 4.4.2.
Now on stock rooted and very happy.
I'm sure i'll be trying cm11 soon.
Performance on KitKat feels promising to me.
More good things to come i'm sure.
Hey guys,
The owners of Nexus 7 2012. I am looking for a good but affordable case/cover for Nexus 7 2012.
Can you suggest one.

I think the Nexus 7 is the best option. Apart from the hardware that we know it is awesome, it has a huge and growing community (check out XDA Nexus 7 subforums). So you get the best hardware with the best software.
I'm going to get the Samsung galaxy tab 2

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a Note 10.1. I currently have a Note 2 and I love it but I'm starting to think the screen size isn't enough for me anymore.
Is there any news about an upcoming 2013 version of the 10.1? I just dont want to buy one if the new version is coming in a couple of months. TIA.
Next month marks the one year since release of this tablet. I'm pretty sure an update is around the corner but haven't heard anything official. With that said if you can get a good price on it I've seen it on sale for like 350 I think it's still worth it.

rumor i heard was 8 core with a 12" screen. if true i don't think i'd be able to fight the urge to get one! i love my windows tablets, but windows just isn't very touch friendly and i can't stand metro (none of the apps i use are modern ui based so that's the biggest reason for not being touch friendly).
amazon has some refurbs for $300. i'm trying to stay away b/c i really don't need the temptation. dad's birthday, parent's anniversary, daughter's bday are all coming up in a few weeks.
First off, I love my Note 10.1. I bought it 2 days after release and still think it's the best tablet out there. However, the 2560x1600 HD display, and extra screen real estate are SO tempting. Unfortunately, I can't justify another tablet. A nice telescope is actually higher priority right now.

If you can wait, it may not be too long till the new one releases. Also, the price of the 10.1 might drop when the 12.2 comes out.

My daughter loves her nook tablet. Been running cm10.1 on it for almost a year. We very rarely restart it and does everything. It is a 7" and it a good size and durable. No webcam though, not a big deal for us. You should be able to get one under $75 if you look around.

Note 8 costs about $450 usd 16 gb while nexus 7 2013 costs about $230 usd 16 GB. The extra inch on note 8 is great and Spen if your in college like one of my boys. The extra PPI and resolution on nexus 7 2013 is great for media consumption. You may not want to buy last years nexus 10 like that guy above me suggested as the new one will come to market in a month. In fact there are several nice ones coming soon.

Hi,
So after a really long search through every single tablet on the world its only this last choice left to make.
Brand new sealed box Galaxy Note 2012 version (16GB)
vs
refurbished Galaxy Note 2014 (16GB) + extra 50$ more expensive (400 instead of 350).
I'm not willing the pay for the full price of the 2014, the question is, is it worth to get the newer but in refurbished condition?
The only big differences I see between those two are the better screen and the new software.. everything else looks pretty the same..
What do you say?
I'd like to hear your opinion as an owner please,
Thanks,
Jordan.
As an owner of the 2012 version, I am waiting for a good deal to sell mine now so that I can get the 2014. Samsung has a bad rap when it comes to updating their pricier android devices, and upgrading hardware in order to secure the validity of the device is one of the only options left for the 2012.
I'm not counting on them releasing the rumored 4.4,2 update for the n80xx line at all.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
If I were you, I'll never touch refurbished stuffs.
But still the choice is yours.
May be 1 other alternatives is just wait until the 2014 edition price drops
I don't have an answer for you but i can tell you I wouldn't get too hung up on which version of android it has. I am constantly updating my phone with newest ROMs and in my experience the difference between jellybean and kit kat or even ICS aren't very noticeable. I just bought a new 2012 version and so far it seems fine to me. I didn't even look at the new one though because i want going to spend over 350.
FYI, in case you didn't discover this, amazon has white ones for 350 and Best buy has gray ones for 350. Not sure if BB has free shipping though.
Thank you all for replying,
That was kinda what I was thinking,
Another question,
Are the ROMs available, still active? do they still updating their self? like atleast once a month?
I'm not an addicted user who changes ROM every week, but I know that atleast for the beggining I would wanna have the option to play with it alil,
Whats the latest official ROM samsung has provided to the device and whats the latest there is out there on the ROM list (ones with touchwiz)?
Thanks again.
There isn't a huge community of users for either tablet as its rather expensive. But even the 2012 edition is one of the most powerful tablets on the market today.
Samsung doesn't do the best at releasing updates but they have promised we will see 4.4.2 on the 2012 edition this year. Tho to be fair the amount of difference I expect it to make is near zero. The only functionality the tablet is missing is wireless display options. The only thing I wish I could change is running touch wiz.
Biggest reason I can see to go with the 2014 is the regular charger. The 2012 has a proprietary connection that isn't easy to find replacements for.

So........ what did you decide?
I have both versions and can honestly say that apart from my 2014 having the air command feature there is no real benefits from it. There are not many customs roms out for either of them and what there is don't offer anything better than stock imo.

Samsung Galaxy 2012 (GT-N8000) no doubt!
When you wanna get best tablet by my opinion buy this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...UTF8&qid=1397148945&sr=8-5&keywords=note+10.1 or whenever you want. When do you don't need calling functions get 2012 GT-N8013 it's cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy GT-N8000. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is still too expensive. And 2012 have better support, upcoming KitKat 4.4.2 and a lot of custom roms!
But it's only my opinion... Everything is on you! :highfive:
I picked up this one a few days ago, and so far its been great, no issues. To me it was a pretty good deal.

The only tablet I'd even consider is the Shield Tablet. I've gone through too many tablets. Tried to justify each one, and I just found myself never using them.

I'll bite in this one so long as there is an LTE version. I have a 2013 Nexus 7 LTE and had a 2012 before that. If there is a Nexus 9 with Lte on Verizon I will edge up my current tablet line and get it. I always wanted a Nexus device with a little more screen real Estate. 9 inches is perfect and made by HTC with front facing speakers. What could go wrong? Fingers crossed for an Lte version, and not six months after its release as Verizon has been wont to do what Nexus tablets.

I have the Nexus 7 2013, and while I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen...I just don't see myself getting it any time soon. It looks like a great laptop, but I use my tablet almost exclusively for reading now. And for watching downloaded movies/TV shows while travelling, which isn't often. I just can't justify the price for what I use it for, when my N7 still works great. I need to learn how to lie to myself better.
My Acer Iconia A200 is on its last legs, the battery is dieing on it so I am seriously tempted by this tablet, plus with the keyboard folio it makes it that much sweeter, my one gripe is the lack of SD card support.
Anyone know if this will support full size USB via dongle or MHL hdmi output?
I still have the note 8.0 which runs like its brand new, tbh, I hardly even use it. If anything, I would want a refreshed nexus 7 or and 8 inch.... I do have my eye on the nvidia shield tablet though..
