Hi guys, how is the quality of music with earphones? and how much battery does playing music use? it's very important to me, i listen music all the time and for now i have an mp3, but if the music is good i can use the nexus 5.
(sorry for bad english)
It's up there with my Cowon J3 and sennheiser (only earphones for me at work) in my opinion.
Although I had to install VIPERAndroidFX and turn on a few artificial equalizers (only slightly) and what not...to my ears it's fantastic, wonderful separation.
I like my music sounding warm, but not bass heavy.
Battery seems to drop 5-10% every hour while listening to music, but I haven't tested extensively. I'm usually at work and just plug USB into my monitor so it goes all day.

ok soo im running the EnergyROM(love it) but i have a question for everyone who listens to music on their FUZE or TP, will the battery drain more if im listening to music from the storage card because its being used??
You will experience more power drain listening to music, yes. I have not noticed a difference worth noting between the music being on SD vs internal memory.
i don't think it makes a difference, and if it does, most likely its very minuscule.
Used to use GPM for all my music needs, and it used to use so much battery (phone down to 60% or so after a total of 4 or 5 hours of music), even when the music was cached locally and my phone was on airplane mode. Battery usage from combined GPM and Mediaserver was about 40% or so. No extraneous sources of battery drain either (ie. no Google+ running in the back or anything like that).
Recently, I tried Apollo and copied some of my most frequently listened to music to the internal storage. I got away with listening a total of 6 or so hours of music, and it lost maybe 10-15% of my battery (also on airplane mode). Battery usage from Apollo (didn't even see Mediaserver) was also around 40%, but the drain was MUCH less.
Why is it that GPM music sucks up so much battery? I thought this phone had a dedicated part of the CPU that kept battery usage from music very very low.

I noticed that as well. The mediaserver I've actually noticed with every music app I've used. Pandora/SoundCloud.
Do you use the equalizer by any chance? Or any sound mods?
I used to experience the same thing with local playback, media server would be higher than I expected and GPM showed fairly high CPU times. Over all it was using the same or more battery than streaming lower quality files with Slacker.
That is no longer the case. Only thing I've changed is headphones and disabled the GPM equalizer.

No sound mods (by that you mean Viper or the like, right?), and I haven't messed with the EQ settings at all in GPM, not even sure if it's enabled by default or not. So does the dedicated part of the CPU that handles music playback not do EQ settings?
Remember when Google was teasing the audio tunneling to DSP feature for Kit Kat and our Nexus 5? Remember the 60 hours of promised music playback?
Yea. Good times.

Actually, I think I got pretty close to that with Apollo (6 hours of music for 10-15% battery, with some other apps sometimes waking the phone up and me using it a little). They weren't lying, but GPM doesn't use it (for me at the very least)

Perhaps it is GPM, because that is pretty much the only music app I use. Ironic that their music app wouldn't use a key feature of kit Kat.

I thought I'd chime in as well on this problem. I love my Nexus 5, a LOT! But this app really does drain battery for me. I thought maybe it was just a bug with my phone? But I see others are having this problem.
It is kinda ridiculous that listening to music takes up about as much battery as having the screen on! And it's off when I listen to music. I want to get rid of my messed up iPod Touch in favor or my N5 but the batter is really hit... I don't have the best signal either in some classes and my transit to school is horrible signal, so it also takes a hit on the battery life.
Does anyone know what the problem is? Also the system UI seems to drain battery too. D; why does Google Play Music do this??

You know what is weird? I tested GPM against Poweramp with the phone in airplane mode and it was SIGNIFICANTLY less power hungry. GPM used 1.5% an hour with headphones plugged in vs 4.5% for Poweramp with headphones plugged in. Going to have to run the same test on WiFi to see the difference playing music makes when GPM has internet access. From using it daily I can say its SIGNIFICANTLY more than 1.5% an hour.

Is this happening on wifi? Cellular? Or both? Certainly you will achieve much better battery life while streaming over wifi.

Huh... That is rather weird. I have tried at home on WiFi and it still drains like how it does on mobile data. Of course o don't stream on GPM, I have all pre-loaded songs from my iTunes folder on my Nexus 5 and listen that way, offline. I don't know why it drained so much for me and others but so little for you? Even airplane mode still drains, not as much, but barely noticeably slower.

With EQ off and not playing Flac files, GPM and media server seem to barely register after 2-3 hours of listening.

well for me its eating a lot of battery and I notice a lag when I play/pause and next a song??? I am using the latest PA with Franco kernel. I now use Walkman from Sony; it works way better. Less battery and doesn't lag.

I've been using Google play music for the longest time and haven't noticed any battery drain no more than any other app I'm using for hours at a time. If I am constantly playing music its expected to me that is that my battery will drain. I can get usually around 7-8 hours of non stop music while streaming and also switching from Google play music to tune in. Tune in on the other hand is a huge battery drain because for some reason it likes to stay running in the background and sometimes I forget to shut it off manually and eats my battery up quick lol

If you have music stored in the library download it for offline and see if that helps you. When I use to do that I could listen to music all day in airplane mode that is

Hmm, does anyone have any luck with keeping WiFi on and GPM running, but with the same songs looped? It shouldn't have to keep streaming due to the files being kept locally, yet it still has terrible drain for me
How is the battery life for everyone while streaming music? I am streaming music via 8 tracks my battery seems to be draining fast at 10% every hour. Is this normal?
No issues here with Spotify.

I actually switched from 8tracks to InfiniTracks (for incompatibility issues on my Galaxy SIII, and then habitually for the M8). Try it out, maybe it might help with battery (can't make any promises here).

I think, battery life is just a normal problem nowadays when it comes to any smartphones. Not only while streaming.
Here's how to extend your battery life:

I've been reading up on the camera distortion issue and I'm quite disappointed in Sony's attitude towards it but despite that, the device seems great and I ended up ordering one off eBay (the dual SIM model).
What's everyone's views on this phone knowing the camera has issues? Does it make you want to return your phone or are you keeping it?

At first I really thought of returning it because the distortion issue, but it is pretty minor for me at least (compared to what other people have, the distortion in my phone isn't that bad). But forgetting this thing, I really like the phone. 6 weeks with it already, and it's performing damn good. The battery life is very good (7 hours SOT usually, and with my usage I only charge it once every two days), the performance is unbeatable, with a bit of tweaks the camera can shine, nothing bad to say about the build quality at all, and the most important thing for me, the sound output, is incredible. Also the display is very colorful, you can see no pixel on it, and the dark levels are very good for a non-amoled display. Didn't had any problems with wifi droppings in this weeks, and the LTE speed and stability is perfect. As cons I would say the lack of wireless charging and the bezels could have been smaller. But those issues are in no way more relevant than the pros. I am happy with my phone and I would recommend it.

That's pretty much exactly what my thoughts on this phone are.
I highly recommend this phone. I just upgraded from an Xperia Z5 which was my very first Xperia phone, the second being my XZ Premium. I've had for almost exactly 2 weeks and I'm REALLY impressed by this thing.
I listen to music a lot on my phone using Bluetooth headphones, and the sound quality is phenomenal. The equalizer really kicks ass, it's way better than pretty much all of the equalizer apps I've tried. All of the equalizer apps I've used tend to lower the actual output volume way too much. With Sony's EQ enabled, your actual output volume won't be any lower than having the EQ disabled.
The overall performance is absolutely amazing. Responsiveness remains instantaneous no matter what I'm doing on the phone, or what's running in the background etc. It just WILL NOT SLOW DOWN!
The camera distortion is really a non issue to me. I believe it's just a software issue anyway. I take photos all the time on it and never noticed it until I saw it on this forum, then went and replicated it for myself. It's really no big deal at all for me personally.
Build quality is REALLY nice. This is a premium feeling phone to me. Only downside is that this phone will slide on any surface way too easily. If you have it on a perfectly flat smooth surface that has even a SLIGHT angle, this phone will slide down it. That does annoy me a bit, but I'll be getting a case for this phone anyway which will fix it. But I would 100% have still bought this phone even if I knew beforehand, it doesn't detract from actually using it.
Battery life is very good. If I charge it overnight from say 10-11pm and take it off charge at around 5-6am, I'll listen to about 45 mins to an hour of music or YouTube in the morning, browse in Chrome, reading and sending emails and also using SMS / Hangouts / FB messenger periodically throughout the day. After another hour of music or YouTube come around 5pm, it's sitting at around 65-70% battery. All of this is with BT left turned on, connected to WiFi most of the day, mobile data always on, location always on, brightness around 50%.
I'd easily recommend this phone. Bloody fantastic.

Agree 100%. I think the camera issue is phone dependant... meaning that mine does not appear to be as bad as some. Still hope that for those who are having issues that Sony comes out with a fix.
I agree with all the sentiment posted here. It really is a great device, and I'd definitely recommend it. I am hopeful that we'll have a safe DRM unlock / root solution at some point, but as stock Androids go, this beats most.
I barely notice the camera issue. All my photos so far have turned out fine but they are mainly of people and landscapes. I have had the phone 2 weeks now and honestly couldn't be happier, I use it as both my personal and professional device. I usually get a good day from a charge with a good 6.5-7 hours of SOT a day with multiple emails sent, a few calls and a few apps constantly running. I actually like the smart charge feature too, I only charge my phone during sleep hours so there is no inconvenience for me about charge time. I do miss there being no cap avarice buttons but only because my previous phone (Note 4) had them and I did like the full screen being an actual screen! For what I use this phone for it excels at but we all use ours differently. What usage are you wanting for your ideal device??

Hi, could you tell me the tweaks fpr the camera please
I have been using this phone for about 2 months now and here's my Honest review.
The Android OREO fixed many things. the camera in OREO includes an option "correction for image distortion" so the only issue of this phone "camera distortion" is gone. there is also DRM fix available for this phone now. performance-wise many people said that the phone lags on some games but thats a totally different story. Asphalt 8 and all other gameloft games have stutter issues. the games that doesnt work smooth are probably due to optimization issues. this phone can run GTA SA on fully max graphics. antutu score is 180,000 which is awesome. the LPDDR4X ram is fast enough to hold and process all data without any drop in performance. we all know that the 4k display is running in 1080p and only enables 4k in apps that support it (like youtube and sony album).
there are a lot of good things about this phone. some people said that the speakers are very quite but they are forgetting the fact that both speakers are facing towards the user so in a noisy environment too the sound can be heard by the user easily and is nothing to worry about. the 3D Creator app is fun to play with. the camera can be even better if you know how to use it in manual mode so that depends on preferences of the user. as for the charging speed, it is quite brilliant actually. for example if you need some battery urgently then a 15 min charge would give you 30-35% battery and you will be good to go for about 6+ hours (SOT would be less, depending on usage). as for me, i ordered the spigen carbon painted case for this phone and now the phone looks even better. better grip better handling. the phone just amazes in almost every aspect. i have used s8, op5 and iphone 8 but there is something special about XZ premium. it just is perfect in every aspect that you can think of.
The 3230mah battery seems small for 5.46' 4K display but its running 1080p that too on 10nm battery efficient chipset makes up for it.
PS: im not a fanboy or anything like that im reviewing what i experienced. there are goods and bads about every phone and according to that logic this phone has too many goods and very very rare bads which arent even noticeable.
Regards.

Hi there my former LG urbane 2nd Edition watches lost in almost one hour jogging tracking and listening to music more than 40 % battery... Can someone confirm this or did this behavior change in the meantime... Thank you
i use gps only seldom, but i think for an hour it is around 25% at mine. you stream or music is on the device? if you stream and you might have bad cell connectivity, you might end up with 40%. in the normal case it should be less
