[Q] upgrade galaxy fit via linux - Samsung Galaxy Fit GT 5670

Hi! I would like to upgrade my galaxy fit from gingerbread 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 or icecream 4.0.1. My problem is that i'm running linux mint on my machine and all tutorials shows upgrade procedure via windows os, and i couldn't find any tutorial that uses linux. I also have installed wine but i couldn't launch odin over it..is there anybody here who knows how to manage it, or maybe someone could share some links?..

I don`t know what upgrade are you refering that requires windows but you could also use linux WINE (Windows emulator)

Hey I also use Linux (Ubuntu ). I have tried a lot to use Odin on Linux but it just doesn't work . I tried using Wine , and even using virtual Os through virtual box. It simply doesn't recognize the phone
so to use odin you will have to dual boot or use another pc
and you can't use Odin to upgrade to 4.0 . for that simply install a custom rom

I had tried Heimdall long back but it didn't recognize fit. It works properly for Galaxy S,S2 and S3 and Vibrant I think

Does Mobile Odin with with the SkyRocket?

I was just curious of anyone has used Mobile Odin on the skyrocket?
I just came over from the regular GS2 and I initially used Mobile Odin to put on a kernal with CWM on it so I could flash roms.
Over there everyone would talk down Rom Manager, so I am a bit hesitant in using that. I know once I get CWM on the phone I can just flash a ROM in there instead of using ROM manager, which just sounds like a more clean way to do it. Bit I have to initially get CWM on to be able to do it.
Old habits I guess. Ya get used to doing it one way and prefer to stick with it.
Mobile Odin does not work. Yet. But if enough of us send him system dumps it'll put us one step closer to him supporting our phone. Rom manager will work fine to flash cwm. Or the PC version of Odin works great too.

Yes and no LOL you need cwm to download and Install from Rom manager but for fixing permissions and stuff you could have an alternate recovery but Rom manager is made by clockworkmod so yeah

Mobile Odin doesn't increase the flash counter, right?
Also, what is the best way to do a system dump, so I can help out the effort to get this ported to our phone?

Download the app. When it starts it will say device not supported yet. Click here to perform a system dump. I guess if you had adb working on your computer you could do it that way too.

Odin does not see my phone???

Hey guys las night i did the heimdall one click back to stock firmware to my infuse cuase i soft bricked the device now my phone is working fine, but i want to use Odin to install another stock version that i have and the odin program doesnt see my phone, anyone know why???
You tried using a different port than the one you used with heimdall?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Once you use heimdall...the port you used with it.can mevee be used again with.odin in the future until you manually uninstall the driver through sysyem settings...it.only affects the port that was used...so all the other ports should be good to go for odin...
What firmware are you trying to flash for odin? heimdall has several froyo one clicks as well as gingerbread uclb3

Just a few questions about rooting

Just wanted to know if installing cwm on my tab will wipe all the data on it (as I had to do with my evo 3d when I rooted it).
Also does odin work properly on windows 8 or should I use heimdall on my mac with the latest osx.
Thanks for any answers

[Q] NEWBIE ONTO SGT2 P3110 : 2 questions please...

Hi all,
I'm a newbie with my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 ( P3110 ) bought yesterday...
I've used android with other devices, like my wonderful P990, but with P3110 I cannot understand some things...
1) every flash ( rom or other ) increases FLASH COUNTER right ? But I can reset it with TRIANGLE AWAY app, right ?
2) I'm on 4.0.3 now. Just bought. I would like to flash latest STABLE rom... But I cannot understand where it's necessary to change the boot loader ( I think, with this device there're 2 bootloader like with other devices... OLD BOOTLOADER up to 4.0.x and NEW BOOTLOADER from 4.1.1 and newer... ). I would like to flash 4.1.2 multilanguage 'cause 4.2.x is not enough stable for daily usage, it's correct ?
3) GAPPS are the same as other devices ( like my P990 ) ?
4) ... thinking in course...
Thx u all ! :cyclops:
1. Only when you use ODIN.
2. No, there's no reason to ever flash a bootloader on this tab.
3. Yes, cm gapps are universal.

Other question :silly:
4) this device has not a 3G inside, so only wifi / bt / gps... It's useful to update the BASEBAND ? There're basebands to flash ? :highfive:
No, there aren't modems for the 3110.

5) Up to now... There's no way ( rom, kernels, etc ) to mount internal and external memory with USB Mass Storage Mode... right ?! :crying:
No... What OS are you running?

I miss that too. My old tablet had it, and it made transferring files so much easier.

No, i'm assuming that the reason you asked #5 is that you're using a PC OS that doesn't support mtp, e.g. mac or linux. Which one?

I'm using in my 5 PC Win XP, Win 7, Win 8, Linux Mint, Linux Pinguy :silly:
But more quickly : MTP works well... but it's s**t ! I hate MTP ! :crying:
I would like to use my android based devices, like this new P3110, with USB Mass Storage mode... :good:
There is no UMS unless a dev tries to put it in. There is actually a way to mount mtp on Linux, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22570487
