I was just curious of anyone has used Mobile Odin on the skyrocket?
I just came over from the regular GS2 and I initially used Mobile Odin to put on a kernal with CWM on it so I could flash roms.
Over there everyone would talk down Rom Manager, so I am a bit hesitant in using that. I know once I get CWM on the phone I can just flash a ROM in there instead of using ROM manager, which just sounds like a more clean way to do it. Bit I have to initially get CWM on to be able to do it.
Old habits I guess. Ya get used to doing it one way and prefer to stick with it.
Mobile Odin does not work. Yet. But if enough of us send him system dumps it'll put us one step closer to him supporting our phone. Rom manager will work fine to flash cwm. Or the PC version of Odin works great too.

Yes and no LOL you need cwm to download and Install from Rom manager but for fixing permissions and stuff you could have an alternate recovery but Rom manager is made by clockworkmod so yeah

Mobile Odin doesn't increase the flash counter, right?
Also, what is the best way to do a system dump, so I can help out the effort to get this ported to our phone?

Download the app. When it starts it will say device not supported yet. Click here to perform a system dump. I guess if you had adb working on your computer you could do it that way too.

Where did you get these awesome tools man? You never say it in your video and I've been googling for hours now...
Better question, who the heck does this process anymore?
There are tons of kernels that can just be flashed with a kernel flasher, or odin that give you cwm instantly

I've been using the 3e recovery process I am not sure of another way without putting the recover file in system/bin.
I have been needing this all day today. Thank you!
Great for those who stock, want to install a cwm packaged rom, and don't want to have to flash a completely different rom solely to get cwm.

lol. does noone see the sarcasm.
I just picked up a G2X off Craigslist which was already rooted and running what looked to be a modified version of CM7 with some proprietary apps integrated. I knew I wanted to run stock CM7, so I was planning a full wipe, and I was thankful that he had already rooted the phone for me.
I have some kind of issue with CWMR, though. The one installed on the phone is a 4.0.x derivative, which for whatever reason was incapable of flashing the latest CM7 nightlies. Luckily I was able to boot into the existing OS install and flash the latest CWMR (5.x), which got the job done and installed the latest nightly properly.
Here's the thing, though; I can't seem to *keep* CWMR installed. After flashing the latest CM7 nightly, I found myself staring down the old 4.x version instead. On my other devices I just flash CWMR and I'm good to go. How come it's reverting with this device?
Did you flash with NVFlash or thru Rom Manager? NVFlash is the way to go. Link for it can be found in the CM7 thread.

I used rom manager, since that has always worked on other phones. I looked into nvflash, but it appears to be windows only; is there any option that can be performed directly on the device, or that works in linux?

Look in the dev section again there's also a way for Mac/Linux.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
There's also a link in the CM7 nightly thread. The G2X requires nvflash method, the flash thru rom manager is considered a "fake"flash.

Excellent, even though the instructions assume Windows, I see that there's a Linux nvflash binary included in the zip which got me up to date. Thanks!

Even though the flash through Rom Manager is a "fake flash" it still requires root to flash as it flashes CWM to the cache directory. In order to root the phone you must install CWM at least the first time using the NVFlash method and then run the root zip. Once you have done that you can use the ROM Manager one but you must reboot into recovery using ROM Manager to run that version of CWM. I personally don't recommend Rom Manager for the G2X, but I must say, it does work great on some other devices. For many devices, including the Nexus One, Koush is doing the so-called "fake flash" (he and Cyanogen Steve don't consider it fake) to keep the ROM untouched to not interfer with OTA updates, etc. Once the phone is running recovery, whether from the actual recovery partition or from the cache parition where Koush's Rom Manger puts it, whatever it can do is the same and functions the same as recovery is simply an image loaded into phone memory and then run from RAM. One it is loaded and running the image in the ROM is not accessed again during that recovery session.
Does anyone know how to install CWM on stock kj6? I don't want to use the custom kernel. Tried copying the recovery and update.zip but no go. Getting the signature error. Not sure what to try next.

It's not kj6.
Also, my last attempt to use one of these kernels wasn't very successful. Had a couple of little glitches here and there and it drove me nuts.
Now the phone works perfectly on a rooted stock kj6 with junk removed, so I don't feel like risking it, especially not having CWM to backup the stock config.
+1
I am also on stock Gingerbread, rooted, and happy with it. I'd like to install CWM *before* I start mucking about with my ROMs. ROM Manager claims to support it, but it didn't list my phone in its detected devices and then I saw here that one shouldn't use it anyway so I uninstalled it.
So what's the easiest/noobiest way to install CWM on my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4g 2.3.6 rooted?
Heindall.... With the the kj6 kernel in the development forum.

How about you develop a new kernel? All we got is drhonks kj1 and bhundven kj6, both customs... Wait... How you plan to get cwm if you dont "custom" a kernel? Interesting, huh?
You don't need cwm to have an easy way of fixing roms if anything goes wrong, theres always odin and heimdall.

Man you're an arrogant dude. People ask for some help and you tell them to dev a new kernel! Put you're money where your mouth is.
As for the OP I think you get the idea. It's either custom or no go.
I've never used any custom boot animations so I've downloaded a couple and they are zip files so I only have two questions.
1. Do I use cwm to install them? If not then how?
2. How would I go back to my stock att boot animation if I ever wanted to?
Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
1) if they are cwm flashable yes, if not no. Most will say at the source u downloaded from
2) simply reinstalling the current kernal u have is easiest
Thanks.

There tons of them out there. These aren't flashable but it's dirt simple to move the bootanimation.zip file to /system/media with rootexplorer or something like it.
First rename the one that's in there in case you decide to change back.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565241\
It's really easy to do. Have fun
I tried that but mine is in system media and there qmg files or something like that. And from what I've read I have to flash a different kernel to be able to change boot animation. Unless you may know another to get around it?

Not exactly. I installed the ics leak via one click odin then flashed cwm via odin and rooted via superuser.zip via cwm.. so not exactly stock but I'm not running a custom rom or kernel. I've considered a custom ics rom but just have not found one I'm sure about yet. Any suggestions on a really good ics rom with no glitches that isn't slow cause I can't stand slow that's why I rooted my phone and one that's not a battery eater...

If you're on the leak anything is better than that. I ran nexusmod beta for a day, and seanz sky ics and both were very good. I can't run ics daily because of the crappy radio, mainly. And no bln, uv and things like that. But the main thing is the crap radio.

Some boot animation help?
Hey all.
I am rooted on ICS4.03. Used the CWM, superuser.
I understand that I need either romracer's kernel or mohan's.
I have been reading for days, but still this is escaping me.
I've done searches on here and even googled. Where do I get romracer's kernel? I'm really new and after reading for days, I can safely say my brain is overloaded and eyes are buggy.
Please help. I downloaded BluePlazmaII-edify.zip boot animation.
So, recapping....
Where do I find it/them? and Then do I use CWM to flash the rom? Do I need the paid version of Root Explorer to change system/media from read only to read/write?
Thanks
Hi All,
just got a second line for work and i bought a g2x. got it rooted but haven't flashed a recovery yet.
is it true i can't just flash it via clockmod? on cyanogenmod's website it specifically says its the way to flash recovery but ive noticed in a few posts here that it will not flash recovery. i can really use some lights on this guys.
Thanks in advance.

To flash recovery the correct way, head on over to here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
If by clock mod you mean ROM manager, you can. But you will get your phone bricked if something goes south.
This phone is unbrickable, almost. Nvflash cwm on it and flash roms via it.
Search is your diaper friend.

So yes, and no...but yes. Confused yet?
You CAN use Rom Manager to flash a recovery and do backups / flash roms. The only issue comes up when you bork something up, and by you I mean rom manager of course, and you get a boot loop and have to pull the battery to get into recovery....you can't. It's got to do with the partitions RM uses I think. If you read enough you'll see that RM "fake flashes" CWM to your phone and you can't access it if it gets borked. Soooo you use Nvidia's NVFlash utility to flash CWM to your phones recovery partition. Then you're good to go. If you dig up the old CM7 thread, Cyanogen basically said that NVFlash replaces Fastboot for the G2x, but he uses RM from then on out.
Sooo use TGA_Gunnman's tool linked in the post above to install CWM the first time, then use RM is you so choose too. FWIW I've never used RM.
!
Thank you! got it now
i've been reading and trying the ICS roms, none seem to be as stable as a gingerbread rom.
what are you guys using?

I don't understand why people tell you to use ROM manager.
Only use nvflash to flash clockwork, and ONLY use ROM manager to rename your backups and to boot into recovery. Never use ROM manager to flash ANYTHING.
ICS ROMs are all pretty much betas for this phone. If you want stable stay with stock or cm7.
