Saw this on phandroid and thought it was worth sharing here.
If you're like me and you want to test out some of the most noticeable new features in Android 4.4 KitKat then this is for you.
I have tested cm11 alpha1 for about 30 minutes and all I can say is that it's nothing more than a proof of concept at this point (just like the alpha tag suggests).
So if you want some of the quirks of KitKat in a stable environment (any jb rom) here's a way of getting some of it.
While Google still hasn’t provided the actual launcher in the Play Store, some simple sideloading of the GoogleHome.apk we found in the Nexus 5′s factory image, along with the updated Google Search app, got everything up and running. Here’s our easy how-to on getting GEL installed and fully functional on your Android device.

First, make sure to enable the sideloading of apps by going into your device Settings > Security > and checking Unknown sources. From there download the updated Google Search and Google Home from us (linked below). Jump into your Downloads app and install both the apps you just downloaded (press the descriptions, not the check boxes), selecting “done” after every installation.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/3ina0fd8fwki5fo/GoogleHome.apk
From there, press the home button and select “Launcher” as your default homescreen — this is the new Google Experience Launcher. You’ll notice the always listening “Ok Google” command doesn’t work from the Google Experience Launcher. No worries, turning it on is easy.
For some, you’ll be able to swipe to the left and quickly access Google Search/Now, but if that’s not available, you’ll need to actually enable the new Google Search/Now app. It’s easy, just open the Google Search app (listed as “Google” in your app drawer) and click “Next” then “I’m in.” Once that’s taken care of, jump back to your homescreen. You’ll now be able to swipe to the left and access Google Now.
Once in Google Now, scroll all the way to the bottom and press the 3 dot menu to select Settings. From there, select “voice” > “offline speech recognition” (manage downloaded languages). Now, we’re going to work our way from the right tab, all the way to the left.
Select the Auto-Update tab from the top and choose one of the auto-update options (we recommend leaving it on “over WiFi-only”). After that, scoot over to the All tab and find English (US). You’ll notice it already says “pre-installed”. Don’t listen to it. Select English (US) anyway. From there, jump to the Installed tab and press “English (US)” where you’ll be asked to download the latest version (version 28 at the time of writing). Hit “Download” and the updated version will be downloaded and installed.
After it’s finished downloading, press the home button where you’ll notice “Ok Google” will now be displayed inside the Google Search widget. Simply speak that phrase whenever you’re on your homescreen to perform a Google Search or voice actions. That’s it. Was relatively painless, right?
Thanks, Justin!

New Update for Google Play Store 4.6.16
What's New?
So, what's new in Play Store 4.6.16 compared to 4.5.10?
1-Batch install in My apps -> All tab
Update #1: Rather than batch removing (note: I'm talking about removing apps that aren't installed from the All list here, not mass uninstalling) multiple apps in My apps -> All tab, we can now mass install them. This makes installing familiar apps on new devices a whole lot easier, though still very much time-consuming. The batch remove functionality was, well, removed.

Removing apps from My apps -> All no longer jumps to the top of the list
Update #2: Previously, simply removing an app from the My apps -> All list forced you all the way back up to the top of the list, which was extremely annoying and unnecessary. No longer the case - the app now disappears from the list, but your position remains the same.
2-New Require password option
Following the recent class action lawsuit over in-app purchases, we now have a new option to always require the account password for purchases, not just once per 30 minutes. If you have kids, you should probably turn this on now.
Left: old Play Store. Right: new Play Store
3-Settings and Help finally moved to slideout nav
Settings and Help have moved - you can now find them in the slideout navigation drawer. Other Google apps were updated in a similar fashion recently, so we completely expected the Play Store to follow suit. In related news, this means that the unnecessary overflow menu on the start screen is gone.
Left: old Play Store. Right: new Play Store
4-Confusing Auto-add widgets setting renamed
The "widget" part of Auto-add widgets was really confusing since it was actually adding icons and not widgets. It's all fixed now, finally.
Left: old Play Store. Right: new Play Store
5-We can finally force Play Store self-update
Finally, we can trigger a self-update action on the Play Store itself - just tap the Build version in the settings. This will come in super handy for fresh OS installs that ship with outdated Play Stores.
6-IAPs now included in the App permissions screen
Following the IAP indicator added in the previous version, another warning about IAPs is now included in the App permissions list when you press Install.
7-Google+ +1 counts are now exact for large quantities
This one is pretty self-explanatory. If you still don't get it... drugs are bad, mkay?
Left: old Play Store. Right: new Play Store
8-Tweaked styles
Add buttons are now blue, the names are bold, and there's a white border around the profile image:
Left: old Play Store. Right: new Play Store
For those of you with multiple accounts, the account selector looks a bit different now and no longer makes all the nav items disappear:

Installed and working brilliantly! Wanted to clean up my All list for ages but was just to much of a hassle as it kept going to the top. Big big thank you.
Thank you! I like new version.

I still think it's ridiculous that they'v removed the option to select multiple apps to remove them from my apps list. It's cluttered with apps I'll never use again in my life. 2 steps forward 1 step back Google. Sort it out!

If you're running a recent CM based ROM you've most likely encountered some pretty severe battery drain from Google Play Services (or Android OS as it sometimes shows up as). Below is a series of procedures that will halt the battery drain, but will not affect the running of your device.
The first thing you need to do is to enter Privacy Guard through Settings/Security or Settings/Privacy, then click Advanced or Show Built-In Apps (depending on which ROM you're running). From here you can select Google Play Services and turn off everything except for location. This may or may not be enough, if you still suffer battery drain please move on to the next step.

Please note: everything below this point requires root!
Next you need to download Android Tuner. Open it and pull out the side menu, scroll down to the Apps Manager section and select Application Startups. Open the box at the top and change it to All, click the button in the bottom-right until it says System, scroll to Google Play Services and select it, a huge list will open, scroll to very near the bottom and find the Wakeup option, uncheck the box.
Go back to the main menu of Android Tuner and pull out the side menu on the left, scroll down to the Apps Manager section and select Application Manager. Click the centre box at the bottom until it says System, scroll to find Google Play Services and highlight it, press the Manage button in the bottom-right and select Permissions. This should bring you to the Perms tab, swipe across to the Services tab. In this list you want to uncheck anything that starts with Ads or Analytics, you also want to uncheck anything that starts with com.Google.android.location.reporting as well.

the second step should, but the first one won't. app ops and privacy guard is for CM11 ROMs (or any other ROM that cherry picked the privacy guard commits)

How would you like 36TB's of storage?? FOR FREE!!!
So who is offering this? Qihoo 360, which is some Chinese company, only information I could find: is a Chinese company best known for its antivirus software. I would advise you to be cautious I haven't use any of the services yet and it does require you to download a desktop app and mobile client. You can delete these after all is setup and everything will stay you don't have to have them installed but you must install them to get the extra space.
NOTE: If you have any problems or troubles and can't figure something out I suggest this trick. Download the new Google Translate app off of Play store and use the new camera feature!! This made everything simple (had use 2 phones) because all I had to do was take a picture of the screen I was stuck at to find out the translation.
So lets go ahead and start. Here are the steps to getting setup:
1. Go to http://yunpan.360.cn
2. You should see a blue and white screen with a login box towards the right with some scrolling images to the left. Click the blue text at the bottom of the forum.
3. You should now be on a registration screen, here is the translation:
Welcome to register 360 cloud disk
Email (Mailbox)
Password (6-20 Characters)
Confirm Password
Verification Code (Not Case Sensitive)
I have read and agree to the "360 User Terms of Service"
Sign up now
4. You should then be redirected to a site with a green android looking guy and instructions to check your email to activate. You have 48 hours.
5. After you've verified your email go to http://down.360safe.com/yunpan/360wangpan_setup.exe to download the Qihoo 360 Windows Client
6. Once you have everything downloaded and install run the application
7. When the application first starts you should get a login screen (blue box) that has 2 tabs. Here is the translation:
Tab 1: Ordinary Login | Tab 2: Seamless Login
360 Account Login
Account
Password
Remember Password | Automatic Login
Log in
Forgot Password (Under log in button)
Note: If you get a pop up while logging in means you haven't activated your account yet
8. After you log in you should see that you start with 360GB, and after your first login you should get a pop-up like this:
Translation:
Congratulation
Obtain large cloud disk space permanently
"Something about how many harddrives it equals"
Click to receive
9. If you click the link you should now be at 10.4 TB, but what about the other 26TB?
10. To get the other 26TB you have to install the Android app which is the reason for me posting this so we can get it translated!
11. Download link for the android app: http://down.360safe.com/yunpan/360yunpan_android.apk (There is an iOS app)
12. Install the downloaded apk, one weird thing is that the app seemed to auto close on tablet. I used and old junk tablet we let the kids play with incase it was infected.
13. Open the app and this is where maybe someone can shed some light as I didn't translate the splash screen so I'm not sure what the 2 options are for. I can tell you that option 1 (Blue) will only allow you to enter a phone number but not sure what it's linked back to. Option 2 the grey option is the one that we want as we already created a 360 account.
14. Click the grey 360 tab to open the login screen
15. Input your email, pass and login (This is actually in english if your phone is set to english)
16. Press the login button and BAM 26TB instantly!!!!
17. I can't move around the app very well in Chinese but if you go back to your desktop client and check your space it should be at 36.4TB now!!!
Thats it! If you look at the first screen shot you will see it lists 36.4TB the second shot is initial setup showing the 360GB

I just got this installed today so I haven't done anything with it really but thought I'd pass this along now lets get it translated!

@bmxmike thank you for the guide, but i think that now who doesn't live in China would have problems to register on Yuanpan 360 because it asks of SMS verification. I tried with SMS receivers online but no luck
I Just made an account here but i only got 4TB in total even after installing and logging in an app & client.
It's been a while since I used voice to text on my phone (not since ICS). I have a project now that would be much easier with voice to text than typing so I was playing around with it today. What I found was kind of bitter sweet.
I use Swiftkey keyboard and it had me install Google Voice Search in order to do voice to text. It works and is very accurate but it doesn't add text to a field or input area as I speak. It waits until I finish and then gives a few options to select the string that most closely resembles what I said. Well, at least that is how it's supposed to work but in reality, it cuts me off mid word and sentence and usually only after 10 to 20 words. I then have to wait, select the text and then restart it to keep going. Also there is no option to download offline language packs, which will be problematic.
This is not how the voice to text functioned on ICS. I believe it was called Google Voice Typing? It stayed on, didn't cut me off and inputted the text while I spoke. Although I do remember that it was not as accurate. I also remember downloading offline language packs.
I thought it might be to do with Swiftkey so I installed the Google Keyboard but the mic icon on it did nothing at all. Is there a way to get back useable voice to text functionality on kitkat? Can I just flash Google Voice Typing?
Cheers!
Just go and paste apk in priv-app folder and .so in lib folder in your /system.
After pasting them please set permissions using es file explorer as disable all exucitables and disable last two write option.
Reboot and mark the new keyboard as default.

After doing so go to settings of keyboard and select english uk and us both in the menu.
Next time you open your keyboard. You will have an icon on your status bar. To switch to voice typing just click that notification and select google voice typing and you are done. First five or six time it will need a network but later on it will be offline.
Thanks droid_god. I installed the Google Keyboard manually as per your instructions but it doesn't have the voice input icon. Funny thing is that I had the mic icon on the Google Keyboard I installed from the play store, it just didn't do anything accept vibrate when I selected it. In the keyboard settings of the manually installed keyboard the menu and tick box for voice input key is greyed out and says "No voice input methods enabled. Check Languages & input settings." There is no setting for voice input in my system settings, just the Google Voice Search settings which is on.
I suspect that I do not have Google Voice Typing (or whatever it's called) on my phone at all. Is it possible that this should have been part of gApps but was missing? Is it possible to flash just the missing stuff?
Cheers
Yes voice typing is a part of google search app which you get as a widget on main screen when you buy a phone.
Try out this
Go to input method and open settings for google keyboead and there dobthat

Go to top and hit input languages and
And next time you open keyboard just look at status notification click on that and select voice typing
Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean. I already had the english uk and us selected if that was what you meant?
Yes and did you check the status bar icon of keyboard when you open keyboard to type.
Just hit that icon and select voive typing
There Is no voice typing option available. The input options are English UK, English US, Huawei Swype, or Swiftkey Keyboard. I don't understand how anything I have done yet could make Google Voice Typing work as it doesn't appear to be installed on the phone. Well if it is actually installed, it isn't in the settings, language and input menu. Is there a way to check, i.e. look for a certain file in system folder?
If you own a kitkat device look for an app named velvet in your priv-apps. If its there then you have voice typing installed. If its not there then i can manage to swnd you the app.
No worries, and thank you. I have 2 devices running on slimkat roms. I'm away for a while now but will check them when I get home. Velvet isn't in the priv-app folder on the phone I am having trouble with, although it is kitkat too.
The velvet app is essential for voice typing i will providd you the link for one

Download the app named as google search from play store and then inmstall it. Reboot your device and you are done now you can use the voice typing.
Give it a try
Thanks droid_god, that did it. The app is just called Google in the play store though. They must have dropped search from the name somewhere along the way. Now to work out why it has so much trouble contacting the Google servers.... Probably just best to download the offline language packs. Thanks again!
Hmm i will be having a blue square and a white g on it.
Thats named velvet in system.of my device and google search in my application manager. God knows is there a hole in google play bag which brought the apps name.
The tread was usefull for me to thank you

Looks like something to do with the weather, you have a storm/rain forecast on the other widget
Check different weather apps / widgets
----
Yes, it's removable. It's a blue GPS raindrop/teardrop trying to locate your current location for an app (lication).
Do the following:
1. Go to home screen and TAP bottom right (APPS), and proceed to SETTINGS.
2. TAP SETTINGS.
3. OPEN CONNECTIONS and TAP BLUETOOTH [2nd option] OFF (Just momentarily)
4. TAP LOCATION [9th option] OFF (Just momentarily) while still in Connections via SETTINGS.
5. In Settings go into NOTIFICATIONS to TURN OFF ALL APPS Getting Notifications (Just temporarily)
6. Last go into Settings, DEVICE MANAGEMENT and FIX ALL that is needed or where you see a number. Once your device is at 90% or higher, BEST @ 100%, THE GPS RAINDROP/TEARDROP IS GONE.
Problem Solved.
Now you can proceed to turn on whatever you want on, such as:
Bluetooth On,
Location On, and
ALL APPS Notifications ON (Pushable).

I searched google for a few days in a row, but I did not find anything about it
Maybe it's more related with a bug in the system UI, because to me it doesn't look like a blue drop, but more like those "handles" to select text, don't you think?
If you remove your Clock/Weather widget, does the drop still appear? It could be a bug with your widget.
Also, if you try to click that "blue drop", what happens?
It seems like you've used an alternative launcher, an alternative clock/weather widget, alternative icons etc... So to investigate this, I would start looking in the apps I installed that have something to do with the customization of the home screen.
I hope this helps ; )
Blue tear drop
I got this in the middle of the home screen. Tapping it moved it to the top left. I rebooted into safe mode then from settings-apps-advanced-apps that can appear on top, disabled ones I thought had no need to do this. Skyp and samsung pay are two I don't use and disabled this permission (amongst others). Upon rebooting, the drop is gone. I should maybe pin this down to find the exact app but can't be bothered. Also this is disabling the drop but possibly not whatever it was representing.
Hope this helps.
It is a bug from messenger. Idk why, but if you're using the chat heads, you're typing something, and then minimize the chat, this blue drop can appear. I guess it's a bug from s7 Nougat, because since I updated to Oreo this bug has never happened to me again. But if you're on Nougat yet, you can do these steps to remove the drop:
1: In the recent apps tab, messenger must be there. If it is not, then open messenger, and go to home screen again.
2: Grab the messenger chat heads, and slide it into the bottom of the screen to remove it.
3: Now go to the recent apps tab, and remove messenger.
This should close messenger, and the blue drop should be gone.
I guess you can also go into settings, apps, messenger, and force stop, then the blue drop will be gone as well(but doing the steps above is easier), and then you just open messenger again, and whenever this drop appears, you just close messenger again.
Forse stop Facebook messenger and open it again
Its a bug ?
