Is there a way to flash an apk or zip file to get a system wide EQ on our phone like Beats? The sound output via the headphones is soooooo low. Any help much appreciated. Thanks!
Viper4Android is by far the best IMO. It's a much easier install than AC!D as well. Beats(even Awesome Beats) was always garbage to me. Especially compared to AC!D/Viper4Android.

I've decided to give a try to the Beats Audio™ PRO that used before on my N7 which is now outdated on playstore...if you find it and it works for you it is night and day compared to the original output. There is no equalization but IMO there is no need to. You can still play with EQ with your music player (I use poweramp). I've tried several DSP managers (downloaded, integrated in custom roms, etc...) but nothing comes close this mode. The only inconvience - you need to be root.

Don't really need to. The stock ROM doesn't contain the lines to edit anyways.
Viper works, I highly recommend if using with a good IRS. Works great on my Nexus 5!! Best audio mod I've used.
Okay. I had installed beats on a previous phone awhile ago and wasn't at all impressed. The EQ in poweramp was good enough. However, seen this thread today and figured I'd give viper a shot being as how a couple people recommended it. Well, I am quite impressed. I've tried it on phone speaker and Bluetooth and it definitely offers an improvement, especially on Bluetooth. Hopefully, it is just as good on the headset, haven't been able to test it out yet. But yeah, definitely worth installing.

Do you have the "Enable/V4A-FX is powered on" check box checked for the output you're using? There is one to check for Bluetooth, Speaker, and Headphones. All three have been working for me on Google Music.
Yeah, I have that box checked for my headphones. I've been changing the eq settings and nothing happens. Going to uninstall and reinstall.

Thank Jesus! The low audio output even on headphones was driving me insane. Viper definitely got that taken care of for me on my N5.

Go to System-Settings/Sounds and set the Soundmod for Viper..
If You don't hear any changes go to Setiings in Viper and enable the FX Compatible Mode.
That will work.

Thanks it's working.. But only on Google music player app. I use poweramp and no effect on it at all, however on googles music player it's really noticeable. Also I was hoping this would work system wide or at least YouTube.

It works for me on Poweramp. Enable FX in Audio Settings and Test it. Sometime helps when You longpress the FX Button in Ton/Vol. Viper go open than uncheck the enable option and emable it again.

It *is* system-wide. It won't work on PowerAmp unless you turn off DVC in PowerAmp's settings.
V4A is a comprehensive audio-driver replacement, not just some software EQ.

i've also heard that beats only works w/ certain apps while dsp is across the board?

DSP. Beats is quick an easy, but you can't fine tune like you can with DSPManager.
Just download any CM rom and extract DSPManager.
I'll skip the Beats gimmick and stick with direct audio output from VooDoo Sound thank you very much.

DSPManager is good to compensate for somewhat subpar speakers/headphones though. You know, like most portable headphones that people buy. =)
I think voodoo does the trick, that and I use the awesome equalizer in poweramp
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
DSP seems to be the standard in most custom ROMS. Voodoo gives color control but is for more advanced users. I find Beats to be more for the person who uses there phone as their iPod with fancy high dollar headphones.

Fortunately, if you use euroskank roms or slim roms they will have voodoo settings integrated into the DSPManager, as long as the kernel supported it as well.

Unfortunately, poweramp doesn't, and I assume other 3rd party players don't either. But that's not a big problem here in Canada, where Google music isn't really supported

Good question, I recently tried AC!D and beats, both were a no go. After installing beats it would just freeze my phone shortly after booting. I think acid is only for local music players though (correct me if I'm wrong), I'd like something that works with Play Music and Pandora. Not really a huge concern of mine until someone can confirm something works without bugs.

Have you tried Noozxoide? I have had success with it on every ROM it has been installed on and it works across all apps.
Have you considered an eq application? That is all beats audio is. I can't speak for dolby, Sony, and others.
I'm an avid audiophile, so I know eq can be tedious if you want a set it and forget it option, but it is worth it, to me.

I did try Noozxoide when installing acid, I played with the EQ while using Play Music and Pandora, but I didn't notice a single change. Maybe I didn't select the correct settings while installing. It also made everything extremely loud to the point where it was like meant for people with hearing problems.

Beats Audio and DSP isn't just an eq app. There are libs added into the soundfx folder so it'll work properly. I have also tried Noozoxide and I haven't noticed any changes when changing the eq levels

So what would one have to do to get the libraries to work with dsp if I am using it on liquid Rom for example. I have it on carbon with dsp functioning well but before on liquid it just didn't do anything. Does it have to be compiled into the actual rom source

No it does not. Usually it'll come with the rom or there will be a flash able zip floating around with the files. What I'm having issues with is getting it to work on liquid without the bass becoming over powerful that it sounds distorted
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I have realized that it is hit or miss when it comes to this. Sometimes I get it to work on one ROM but can't on another ROM. I also noticed that you have to have some pretty good headphones to really get to know the difference in the audio quality.
Even though I flashed this with NO ISSUES whatsoever, please, for the love of God and all that is holy in the Android universe: Make a backup before flashing this! I am not responsible for what you do to your phone.
That being said: Guys...I have found what could quite possibly be the best sound mod for our phones ever. :victory:
1) first go to noskojv's thread and thank HIM NOT ME! I didn't write this mod but when I find something awesome I feel the need to share.
2) next if you have CWM go here to flash it.
3) if you're like me and you have TWRP go here to flash it.
Basically fauxsound will increase your gain (loudness) and Beats EQ will "clean up" any distortion. Beats EQ alone will not make your speaker louder.
To access the screens you see attached:
For the Beats EQ/ Music FX menu from the home screen select menu >> settings >> my device >> sound >> music effects
For the Beats EQ preset menu simply open your app drawer and find the app called BeatsEQ
Enjoy my Sprint brothers! :victory:
I also included a screenshot of my fauxsound settings.
Note: faux123's kernel OR ktoosez's kernel (which I use) found here and fauxsound are REQUIRED for fauxsound to work. You may use Beats EQ without fauxsound but if your intent on using this mod is for a volume increase Beats EQ alone will not accomplish this.
****Fauxsound will not work with any other kernel.****
***Note: I'm pretty sure Beats EQ is for Touchwiz ROMs only!
Nice! Thanks for forwarding along. I'll try it later.

I downloaded and installed the twrp version everything went smooth but when I select an option and apply it I have to wait for it to force close before I can do the next step and it didn't sound any better than using the Volume + I downloaded from the play store but thanks for sharing I want flaming just giving my experience with it every device handles things differently

what kernel are you using? and did you clear cache and dalvik when you installed? I get no force closes at all. What ROM are you running? Try and reboot and see if it clears up your issue. I've used volume+ and I can tell you this is definitely better. My ROM/Kernel setup is in my signature.

I do notice the difference more on my jbl bluetooth external speakers. there's more options like the strength of the eq setting and bass strength under the headphones and bluetooth tabs.
I think for Michael Bolton you'd love the 'R&B' setting the best. I listen to a lot of trip-hop and trance and it sounds great.

Ahh KT uses fauxsound. The link to download it from the market is in my OP.
I use fauxsound to increase my GAIN (make it louder) and essentially use this mod to reduce the distortion and the result is great sound. Even on the crappy speaker in the back of the phone.
Just embarrassed my friend with the HTC One. My speaker got WAY louder than his. And this makes my Beats headphones sound incredible
Ps. Used Fauxsound and Ktoonz kernel to increase speaker gain

All beats mods implement "beats" which is marketing hype and not much else of substance other than some eq changes so why you'd want a beats mod is beyond me.
There are about 5 threads about this in various forums, use the search function. Beats is just an equalizer same with their headphones, it is nothing special, rootsu got the post before I did =D

It can. There is an extra loudness option for the speaker. For headphones and bluetooth you can play around with adjusting the gain and master limiter.
I've been playing with viper for a little bit. It's definitely more comprehensive than the stock equalizer, and it takes care of the (imo)low volume, but it's a little overwhelming. I have no idea what half of the settings are for. It works well, though.
Also, I had to download an older version for the drivers to work.
Thanks for the input!
