best audio enhancer? [beats/dsp] - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

which one do you have a better experience with?
i'm currently running aokp's jb build4... any help would be appreciated.
also, links to working versions? i found the beats xda thread, but i cant find anything substantial on a jellybean version of dsp.
i've also heard that beats only works w/ certain apps while dsp is across the board?
thanks

DSP. Beats is quick an easy, but you can't fine tune like you can with DSPManager.
Just download any CM rom and extract DSPManager.

I'll skip the Beats gimmick and stick with direct audio output from VooDoo Sound thank you very much.

DSPManager is good to compensate for somewhat subpar speakers/headphones though. You know, like most portable headphones that people buy. =)

I think voodoo does the trick, that and I use the awesome equalizer in poweramp

DSP seems to be the standard in most custom ROMS. Voodoo gives color control but is for more advanced users. I find Beats to be more for the person who uses there phone as their iPod with fancy high dollar headphones.

does poweramp (or any 3rd party app for that matter) let you play your clouded Googlemusic?

Fortunately, if you use euroskank roms or slim roms they will have voodoo settings integrated into the DSPManager, as long as the kernel supported it as well.

Unfortunately, poweramp doesn't, and I assume other 3rd party players don't either. But that's not a big problem here in Canada, where Google music isn't really supported

[Q] Beats Audio to Skyrocket?

Is there anyway to take the beats audio program off of an HTC phone and install it onto a Samsung phone?

I honestly thought the Beats audio was more about the HW as opposed to just an app? But I'm sure someone could strip it out if the have a mind to.
Is the app that good?
I know there's the voodoo headphone amplifier in the android Market. It's pretty good. Just not sure if any of the kernels support it.

I have read that its all software with regards to the HTC Rezound at least. Right now I'm using Equalizer app to alter the music levels and it's doing a nice job.

A good pair of headphones will improve your experience more than Beats software. What headphones are you using?

Had Voodoo Control App on my Captivate and it was awwwwwesome. No support for the Skyrocket though, and not likely to happen either. I read that the developers of Voodoo don't care for the Yamaha chip in the Skyrocket and won't be developing for it.
I hope this proves not to be true--would love to see some sound improvement on the level of what Voodoo does for the Captivate.
DSP Manger
Skyrocket ICS rom On XDA will give you a DSP manger that works exactly the same as the voodoo sound app. That we had on our Samsung captivates. But that would mean you would have to root your phone to use this.
And another thing you don't get with stock NFC doesn't work. But with the SR ICS ROM you get everything they block from us customers.

Beats Audio?

Is there any way to get Beats Audio on the G2X? I'm using Hellfire Phoenix_v2.1.

The beats audio is not a very good audio system for music as it just distorts the lower and midrange bass (speaking as an audiophile with a $1000+ audio setups). The best thing to do if you want better quality is just to use voodoo sound with a kernel that has it built in. The trinity kernel has it built in and I think Faux123 does too. But to each his own.

Also there is an app on the Play Store called Volume+. One of its EQ's (which is what Beats Audio is) is a "Beats Emulation" as they call it. Just another option. Personally I found that Voodoo Sound Control was more than enough to make sound great on the phone.

I've flashed Beats onto my phone and didn't really notice a difference. I've had more results fooling around with Volume+ or DSP Manager.

Probably but more bass does not mean better quality audio, if anything this would sacrifice quality to give more bass.
Make a backup of your current setup. Download the Beats Audio for any phone from the Rezound forum. Try that out. Also, DSP with Beats works well for combo EQ. You may try Poweramp or other music apps as well. The more you have, the more customization, but also a little hassle on remembering. Poweramp has the Beats and SRS effects included on devices with supported hardware.

I second poweramp. I hate buying apps but it is so worth the price. just make sure you don't have beats installed as they don't always play nice. It has a much better equalizer than any standalone app.

Beats audio hack for hashcodes cm9?

It's a set of software libraries that should provide you with better sound I'm able to hear a clear difference when comparing the stock ROM and gedeROM, but be the judge of that yourself.
I thinks it's funny how Beats Audio on the hardware side is so terrible but the software aspect is pretty damn good. I was really skeptical but the bass is much fatter in comparison and the whole thing just has better sound overall. It's now totally obvious to me the main design focus was cosmetics to make all the little hipster kids happy when they should've been smart and focused primarily on functionality. But who does that nowadays, right? On a side note, I can't stand the ridiculous white ones. They might as well make them bright yellow with flashing lights, like "Hey, everyone, look how trendy I am!"

Oh don't get me wrong i'm using ged's rom too and love it..i just have an issue where dsp manager does absolutely nothing (ie: i move the sliders no sound change) and any other eq app i've tried f/c's immediately when opening. I love the sound change beats provides but i also would like to be able to fine tune with and eq. I've flashed G's rom with a fresh install and 3 different downloads and still get f/c's on any eq app? So i thought maybe one of the thousands of beats.zips floating around might work if i flash it over a stock cm rom. I want your rom to work for me ged, but the lack of eq bums me out. Any idea what i'm doing wrong with dsp manager?

I installed the Beats 5.1 ZIP from this thread, using TWRP on Hashcode's #10 ROM.
Works great, other than the DSP no longer works and the ROM likes to throw an occasional error at boot up to tell me so. I think this is generally intentional on the part of Beats, since it now manages sound. Since stock DSP no longer manages sound, it would make sense it no longer works.

Good question, I recently tried AC!D and beats, both were a no go. After installing beats it would just freeze my phone shortly after booting. I think acid is only for local music players though (correct me if I'm wrong), I'd like something that works with Play Music and Pandora. Not really a huge concern of mine until someone can confirm something works without bugs.

Have you tried Noozxoide? I have had success with it on every ROM it has been installed on and it works across all apps.
Have you considered an eq application? That is all beats audio is. I can't speak for dolby, Sony, and others.
I'm an avid audiophile, so I know eq can be tedious if you want a set it and forget it option, but it is worth it, to me.

I did try Noozxoide when installing acid, I played with the EQ while using Play Music and Pandora, but I didn't notice a single change. Maybe I didn't select the correct settings while installing. It also made everything extremely loud to the point where it was like meant for people with hearing problems.

Beats Audio and DSP isn't just an eq app. There are libs added into the soundfx folder so it'll work properly. I have also tried Noozoxide and I haven't noticed any changes when changing the eq levels

So what would one have to do to get the libraries to work with dsp if I am using it on liquid Rom for example. I have it on carbon with dsp functioning well but before on liquid it just didn't do anything. Does it have to be compiled into the actual rom source

No it does not. Usually it'll come with the rom or there will be a flash able zip floating around with the files. What I'm having issues with is getting it to work on liquid without the bass becoming over powerful that it sounds distorted
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I have realized that it is hit or miss when it comes to this. Sometimes I get it to work on one ROM but can't on another ROM. I also noticed that you have to have some pretty good headphones to really get to know the difference in the audio quality.
