[Q] Beats Audio to Skyrocket? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Is there anyway to take the beats audio program off of an HTC phone and install it onto a Samsung phone?

I honestly thought the Beats audio was more about the HW as opposed to just an app? But I'm sure someone could strip it out if the have a mind to.
Is the app that good?

I know there's the voodoo headphone amplifier in the android Market. It's pretty good. Just not sure if any of the kernels support it.

I have read that its all software with regards to the HTC Rezound at least. Right now I'm using Equalizer app to alter the music levels and it's doing a nice job.

A good pair of headphones will improve your experience more than Beats software. What headphones are you using?

Had Voodoo Control App on my Captivate and it was awwwwwesome. No support for the Skyrocket though, and not likely to happen either. I read that the developers of Voodoo don't care for the Yamaha chip in the Skyrocket and won't be developing for it.
I hope this proves not to be true--would love to see some sound improvement on the level of what Voodoo does for the Captivate.

DSP Manger
Skyrocket ICS rom On XDA will give you a DSP manger that works exactly the same as the voodoo sound app. That we had on our Samsung captivates. But that would mean you would have to root your phone to use this.
And another thing you don't get with stock NFC doesn't work. But with the SR ICS ROM you get everything they block from us customers.

Yes, according to the link, it will work on any gingerbread rom. I installed it about 30 min ago, and can notice a slight difference on my low-grade headphones. Will try again on my good ones at work.
EDIT: I'm at work, using good headphones, and the quality difference is distinct enough to notice easily.
has anybody flashed this yet? Cuz last time I modified stuff with the audio my phone bootlooped. So I don't wanna flash cuz I'm away for weekend

Flashed on R3volution. Sounds great. No issues. Make sure you do a nandroid backup first, though.

Flashed on Zeus 5.2 no problems on boot. No app settings, I didn't really read about it in the thread hehe.
I don't have my headphones on me right now but I played the stock player on the phone speaker and it was noticeably louder.

Flashed this on the stock lb3 and works flawlessly. Five Finger Death Punch has never sounded this clean.

Just installed it on my phone. I have ZAGG buds which have decent sound for their price (I got them half off too). I admit I'm a little skeptical being a little more on the casual audiophile side. I know that with the DAC this phone has, high quality music shouldn't need silly gimmicks to make it sound better, but I'm about to see what I think now I guess!
Edit: Bah, I'm dumb and listened to Spotify before I applied so I had a crappy comparison. Anyway, playing FLAC in PowerAMP after installing sounds pretty good, but I almost feel like I hear a little compression that may be caused by Beats. Might remove the mod and test some more over the weekend. Overall it sounds pretty great though. No complaints.

Beats audio is software EQ only. Voodoo Control app is more functional, better, and doesn't consume battery life as an extra EQ layer on top of your audio. Also according to supercurio (twitter.com/supercurio), the ports violate HTC and Beatsbydre licensing, while also asking for donations for violating said license.
Well...that threads been out a while, so apparently someone got permission, so until they start shutting threads down i say beats is much more clear than voodoo... Good job bro...

So I just put this onto my phone today, which has Revelation Rom on it. Downloaded the file from my browser, then rebooted to recovery. I made a backup of my system through recovery when it rebooted to it. Then I flashed the zip, rebooted phone and voila! The phone seems like the audio is much better, but I don't know if there is anywhere to verify the flash took. There is no app in my app folders, maybe theres a beats folder in my phone somewhere.
The are multiple files. One that you can just check is in the system/bin folder. You will see files that say ibeats in them. That is the only folder i can remember right now.

I'm sure supercurio would disagree.
but voodoo and this are two different things with different purposes. cant be compared. voodoo is an open source driver from wolfson for our chip hacked into a module to replace the closed source Samsung driver unlocking some native features and givving acess to the hardware volume control. there is more it does on cm7 but it was left out of the Samsung roms because we have some software correction or emulation or eq in our libs that the rom depends on and can't be turned off. supercurio didn't want to stack layers of emulation or correction because of unpredictable or poor results or an effect of diminishing return.
this is software effects and/or equalization. the problem I have with that is the nature and quality of the effects is unknown. it may be sophisticated correction for the htc hardware and possibly have negative effects on our hardware. it might just be some compression or reverb to emulate a listening environment, might be a combination. we dont actually know. we also don't know how this plus our Samsung software is really effecting the integrity of the signal. but if you think it helps by all means use it. I personally see no reason to mess with it especially on a Samsung rom.

The beats audio is not a very good audio system for music as it just distorts the lower and midrange bass (speaking as an audiophile with a $1000+ audio setups). The best thing to do if you want better quality is just to use voodoo sound with a kernel that has it built in. The trinity kernel has it built in and I think Faux123 does too. But to each his own.

Also there is an app on the Play Store called Volume+. One of its EQ's (which is what Beats Audio is) is a "Beats Emulation" as they call it. Just another option. Personally I found that Voodoo Sound Control was more than enough to make sound great on the phone.

Beats Audio on our Charge

I was browsing the Rezound development section today(just felt like seeing how lively it was in case i decide to jump aboard the Rezound ship) and I found a thread that puts Beats Audio on all your apps, I checked the comments and the OP said he's tested it on the Charge and it works. Says it should be compatible with all ROMs in fact.
"*SHOULD* be compatible with all roms on all devices running 2.3 and up.
I have tested it on
Rezound, Fascinate , Charge, Galaxy Nexus, OG Droid , and Droid 3 ... seemed to work on all those ."
I have yet to test it as I don't very much care for Beats Audio, just thought I'd share.

Yes
Beats is only good if you like a whole bunch of bass and nothing else. It sounds like a complete muddy mess to my ears. My girlfriend has a Rezound and it sounds like crap to me. It has no tonal balance whatsoever and there's no way to adjust it. To each their own, but I need some treble.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 2
Beats is just a predefined EQ setting, nothing more and nothing less. It's good for hip hop, dance music, and some pop if you're using headphones. Other than that, worthless. And, if you have Voodoo Sound, it'll do a better job on your headphones than Beats will.
Voodoo Sound > Beats.
You can see what beats is doing here, but note that the frequency response curve the HTC One X as measured here is borked to begin with. It is still easy to see what the Beats EQ is doing though.

So yeah, screw Beats and their stupid crap.
Voodoo FTW. Seriously, Voodoo is underrated around here. IT IS FREAKIN' AWESOME.
I suggest Neutron Player if you want more flexibility than the Voodoo Sound Bass Boost.
Lastly, anybody have DSP Manager working on the Charge?

I would guess that it would be included in jt's CM9 ROM, no? Other than that, I don't think anyone has it working on Gingerbread (please correct me if I'm wrong).
If you're looking for legit EQ abilities, check out PowerAmp if you haven't already.

I was more curious than anything. Voodoo is awesome already.
I recommend Neutron Player if you want to really tailor your sound. Poweramp, IMO, ruins sound quality when any of the tone or EQ filters are active (even with neutral adjustments, just having it toggled on.)
Neutron iz the biz.
Voodoo Sound Plus is about as essential on this phone as Root Explorer or Titanium Backup. Seriously, it's that good.

I've run it on EP4 and it runs fine. You just have to get the apk and install it.
Yes, Voodoo Sound really is that good. I've been using since day 1 of getting my Charge(almost a year ago). And yes, Beats is just a sales gimmick. I only posted this as I'm sure there are some people who would like to try out Beats on a non-HTC phone. I'm tempted to try it just to see how high i can get the bass to kick on this phone without distorting my music but Voodoo + Poweramp presets works fine for me at the moment.

I have a One X and the only thing Beats does is crank up the bass so that it overwhelms everything else. The Note has the same Wolfson DAC that's in the SGS3 so supercurio's VooDoo apps should be compatible. Note I said "should." No one's reported using them yet so you may want to do some investigation first.

In case you are one of those audiophiles, installing beats audio is the worst you can do.
I have beats audio on my Galaxy wifi 4.0 and it's hard to uninstall on the rom I'm using. It never reached the soundquality and dynamic of just having Voodoo+PowerAmp.
Wait for a Voodoo compatible Kernel or for Supercurio (did he managed to put voodoo on S3 already?)
Yes voodoo would bee nice but for now I'll use beats
Beats is horrid. I have it on my rezound and always turn it off.

best audio enhancer? [beats/dsp]

which one do you have a better experience with?
i'm currently running aokp's jb build4... any help would be appreciated.
also, links to working versions? i found the beats xda thread, but i cant find anything substantial on a jellybean version of dsp.
i've also heard that beats only works w/ certain apps while dsp is across the board?
thanks

DSP. Beats is quick an easy, but you can't fine tune like you can with DSPManager.
Just download any CM rom and extract DSPManager.
I'll skip the Beats gimmick and stick with direct audio output from VooDoo Sound thank you very much.

DSPManager is good to compensate for somewhat subpar speakers/headphones though. You know, like most portable headphones that people buy. =)

DSP seems to be the standard in most custom ROMS. Voodoo gives color control but is for more advanced users. I find Beats to be more for the person who uses there phone as their iPod with fancy high dollar headphones.

Fortunately, if you use euroskank roms or slim roms they will have voodoo settings integrated into the DSPManager, as long as the kernel supported it as well.
