The latest iteration in the Galaxy Tab series, the Galaxy Tab 3, has a lot going for it. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 specifically features a 5MP camera, 16 or 32GB of onboard memory, a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU with 1.5GB of RAM, and as its name suggests, an 8-inch touchscreen display. The device is now rootable and also has a custom recovery ready to be flashed, so custom ROMs should also be on their way pretty soon. The guide below should help you get ready to flash custom ROMs, by way of rooting the device and install custom recovery (TWRP Recovery in this case).
I. Before You Begin
1. Make sure you have backed up everything you care about from the device before you begin.
2. Charge your device to 75% or more before you start.
3. Install the proper drivers before you start. Usually, installation of Kies will take care of this.
II. Necessary Downloads
1. Odin307.zip
2. TWRP_T31x_r3.tar [or the latest version from this post under the Downloads section]
3. ROOT_SGT3_8.0.zip
III. Installing TWRP Recovery on the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
1. Extract Odin307.zip to a folder on your desktop.
2. Copy TWRP_T31x_r3.tar to the extracted Odin307 folder.
3. Double-click on Odin3 v3.07.exe from the extracted folder to start the Odin tool.
4. Power down your device and put it into download mode. To do this, press and hold the Home + Volume Down + Power buttons simultaneously for 3 to 5 seconds until you see the warning screen.
5. Connect your device to your Windows PC using a compatible microUSB cable. If your PC installs drivers at this point, let it do so. Once that is done, the ID:COM field on Odin should light up yellow, signifying that Odin has recognized your device without a problem. If not, make sure you install the proper drivers (by installing Samsung Kies) and try again.
6. Click on the PDA button on Odin and navigate to the location of TWRP_T31x_r3.tar to load it on to Odin.
7. Wait for the PASS message on Odin and reboot your device.
You should now have TWRP Recovery installed!
IV. Rooting the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
1. Boot into recovery by powering down the device, pressing and holding the Power + Volume Up buttons until you see the Galaxy Tab 3 splash screen and letting go of the Power button once you see it. Continue pressing the Volume Up button until you get to TWRP Recovery.
2. Hold your device in portrait mode, and tap on Reboot on the bottom right of the screen and then select System on the next menu.
3. You will be asked to install root. Accept it and the device will reboot.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions that will now appear after your device has powered on.
V. Alternate method for Rooting
If the section IV steps failed to obtain root, here is an alternate method to get you going.
1. Copy the ROOT_SGT3_8.0.zip you downloaded above to your internal/external SD card.
2. Boot into TWRP Recovery as detailed in Section IV > Step 1.
3. Tap on Install once in TWRP Recovery.
4. Navigate to the location of ROOT_SGT3_8.0.zip and select it.
5. Swipe to confirm the flash.
6. Go back to the main menu, tap on Reboot and then tap on System.
You should definitely be rooted after your device reboots. To confirm, install Root Checker Lite from the Play Store or any other root requiring app and you will prompted to grant root access via the now-installed Superuser app.
Thanks! Was eagerly looking forward to this. Now to the roms.

I've had a look around, and can't seem to find more than a couple of ROMs for this device. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I just got your, tab this week. Love it so far, but want to root it. Does this method work on all 8 inch tab 3? There haven't been any software patches or anything that block this have there? I know my tab says I'm up to date in the settings area.

I am wondering the same. I have updated mine this week. It is now running the latest factory update. I would like to know if this method would still work after updating.

No they won't sorry. All Galaxy tab sizes are based on different chipsets.
Yes this will work on most current stock firmware as well.
4.3
Just got my galaxy tab3. Rooted it. It's currently on 4.2.2 but there is an update nagging the hell out of me tried blocking it but no go. Anyways I'm looking for specific info on whether this will work on 4.3 or not? I learned the hard way to not update without knowing when I updated my gs4 to mf3 and lost out on most the options for it.
TWRP Recovery
For some reason I'm unable to install TWRP Recovery. I follow the instructions above but it doesn't recognize my tablet, Tab 3 8.0. I go into the download mode on my tablet, as instructed. I then connect it to my computer with Odin running and nothing happens. The message on the tablet is " Downloading........... Do not turn off target" and it stays like this all the time. On ID:COM I get "0 : [COM6] and the message < ID:0/006> Added!!
This is as far as I can get. I then have to reset and everything is back to normal. I have Kies installed on my computer.
Any comments and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Root help
Try this:

Worked perfectly for me. Don't unplug or shut down your device. Just hold volume up and power until you see the Galaxy Tab splash screen then let go of power while holing volume up - you should boot into TWRP.
Then follow the directions in the first post here to finish the root. If it works for you make sure you thank skythus:good:
Worked for me!

Simple, painless. (SM-T310) Thanks eeamshh worked a charm. Be sure to uncheck auto reboot in Odin folks and all will go smoothly. Power Tab down manually once Odin finishes and 3 button combo into TWRP. I used the alternate method installing .zip from SD, got a custom binary/system status count but whoop dee do da, such minor details never bother me. AdAway here I come...

Just a FYI,
I tried to download the necessary files from Dev-Host using my tablet and downloads would not start due to mobogenie
Interupting and wasking to install an app. There was a warning from the system that the app may be harmful. I had to download to my laptop and still had a program that wanted to install but did not interupt the downloads.

Unbrick theory...
trying the one touch upgrade utility. it wipes all data in phone and installs a fresh and latest ROM for the device. i guess this will also fix a bricked device somehow.
after this i will try to root it again using MTK tools and ap flash tools with a different idea in my mind... hope it works this time...
[EDIT] UNBRICK METHOD CONFIRMED WORKING!!!
One touch Upgrade
Hello there I'm a total noob in rooting and unlocking bootloads. I just got the same phone as my first android phone and wondered how to root it and I end up here. Now I'm asking how did you get the one touch upgrade software. I've searched the whole alcatel website but I keep getting on the FAQ page. Would you be so kind to put up the link for the software because I kinda bricked my phone here. I was also wondering what speed did you use during your Bin4ry script root attempt? Normal or Special? Keep doing a good job. Thanks for having the time to look for ways to root this phone.

I tried the normal mode as Bin4ry said that the others might brick the phone it it wasn't the right model. did you brick it using the srcipt? any way. still trying to root it and finding help from rua1 that has a great knowledge in MTK phones...
here's the link of the upgrade utiliuty... just install it and choose alcatel 4030 (if your phone is s'pop) then power of the phone remove the battery and follow the instructions on PC and wait till it says plug the phone while powered off.. plug the usb (without battery) then wait for it to detect the device. when it loads, put the battery back and wait for it to download the firmware.. it will take hours to download it.. it's about 2+gigs... good luck on unbricking.. hope it works...
Phone unbricked
Many thanks for the software. My phone is now back to stock rom. for the Bin4ry I also tried Normal because I thought it was for tabs only. So MTK is the only course of action? Any news on fixing the 2 point horizontal bug? and the alcatel FAQ says there's this TCL calibration that you can activate to you know "calibrate" the touch screen. Do you also get the problem where in the stock alarm app alarms but you can't dismiss it ( I set it to crazy mode ) where you need to press 3 buttons to dismiss but still won't stop I really need to pull the battery out. Help please Thanks in advance.

Great. So my theory really worked. Glad you unbricked it. I'm getting closer to rooting it. Just having problems flashing the cwm. Ones I managed to flash it, rooting may be successful. I use Mtk tools and flash tools and get help from rua1. Didn't use my alarm before so i'm not sure about the bug. Maybe you don't have to set it in crazy mode..
I tried to set the alarm in crazy mode and everything works fine. Just dismiss, unlock, and tap the three buttons with numbers and your done..
Rooted, finally!!
I finally rooted the alcatel spop. I will make a guide maybe later how I did it...

Disclaimer: Your warranty is now void. You do this in your own risk. I do not take any responsibility to your device. This will definitely brick your device which is normal but follow the right instructions to make it work again.
Credits: This is tuts would not be possible without the help from the creator of MTKdroid tools, rua1 from XDA Developers. Thank the guy for his wonderful tool. If you wanna know how I did it, go to his thread right here. I also wanna acknowledge The Solutor and rimmon1971's efforts for porting the TWRP to our device. You can find The Solutor's work here.
Requirements:
1. A windows based PC
2. MTK Droid Root & Tools & SP Flash Tool
3. Universal ADB driver
4. One Touch Upgrade S
5. Root script
6. Patience
7. Most important! Use your brain!
Important!
To make this work without errors, don't use other drivers available in the web. Just install One Touch Upgrade S first. It will install the USB VCOM preloader driver. It will be needed by the SPFT to detect the phone. Use the provided ADB driver for the MT65xx_android_phone. If ever you get stucked in an error and your device wont boot anymore, just use One Touch Upgrade and your phone will be as good as new...
Guide: CWM/TWRP recovery
1. Download MTK Droid Root & Tools & SP Flash Tools, ADB Drivers, One Touch Upgrade S, and the Root script. Extract them anywhere in your computer.
2.Install ADB driver. This step is now optional to get adb working. You can now skip to step 5 if you just want to get rooted with CWM/TWRP recovery installed.. In your phone, go to Settings>Development. Set to on and check USB debugging.

3. Connect device to PC. Driver will fail to install (thats normal). Install UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi
Note: in Windows 8, this will pop-up. do this:
4. After installing the Universal ADB driver, go to device manager of your computer. Follow the images as descirbed.
ADB commands should work now (if you have ADB installed) and you won't have any problems about MTK droid tool not detecting phone.
5. Be sure that you have already installed One Touch Upgrade S before this step. Open SP Flash tool and select the scatter file by clicking on the Scatter-loading button.
6. UNCHECK BOOT and leave RECOVERY checked. Disregard what is on the photo. There's are reports that the latest firmwares are incompatible with the uploaded patched boot.img.
Note: By default, the CWM recovery will be selected in the SP Flash tool. If you want the fully working TWRP-recovery (I recomment this because CWM recovery is not fully functional), just click RECOVERY and replace it with this file.
7. Click Download button. Click yes on the download warning. Turn off phone, remove battery and connect the phone (without battery) and wait until SP Flash tool detects the phone and watch as it flash the image.
8. If everything passes without errors, unplug the phone, reinsert battery and boot to recovery by pressing power + volume up.
9. You should boot in CWM/TWRP recovery. We are ready to flash the Superuser app to gain root.
Guide: Superuser
You can use mtk droid root and tools here. Just plug in phone to pc while still in CWM recovery. Run mtk tools, wait to detect phone, click superuser, then build.prop, then delete china. Your done. Or use the guide below if you have problems with it.
Using CWM recovery to flash superSU
1. While still on CWM recovery, plug the phone into PC again.
2. Navigate using volume up and down buttons. Press Power button to select and Back soft key to go back.
3. Select mounts and storage>mount USB storage.

6. Select install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>root-glory-2-4030E.zip and select yes - Install root-glory-2-4030E.zip
7. It will flash the app to the system including all needed binaries. I also included the fix-permissions banary which is missing from the ROM.
8. Reboot the phone and wait. It will boot normally and no data will be lost. You will see superuser app in your app drawer. You are now rooted!

bootanimation problem!
I changed my bootanimation and tried if it works using these commands which i normally do with my past android devices.
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
the animation works fine but when i hit:
Code:
adb reboot
the animation showed was just android mask or android shine which shows when you don't have bootanimation.zip inside /data/local or /system/media. it's like a default bootanimation.
so once I booted, I tried again
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
the bootanimation works but when I reboot, it's back to default.
I tried replacing back the original bootanimation.zip but it still the defaut bootanimation. It's very weird. I haven't encountered this before...

Found out the cause of this issue. The stock ROM has no fix_permissions binary. So I pushed the binary and tried to fix perm again and now custom bootanimation.zip works!

Installing a Custom Recovery and Rooting the Verizon Developer Edition Galaxy S5
This only applies to the Verizon Developer Edition Galaxy S5, NOT the regular Retail Verizon Galaxy S5.
Given that is a Developer Edition device I would assume a basic understanding of Android, adb and other tools needed.
Let’s install a custom recovery (in our case TRWP), then install Root (in our case SuperSU), then make sure we do a backup of the whole device, just in case.
Install Samsung USB drivers. (They are on the “CD-ROM” that mounts when you plug in the phone in the computer, or can be found here).
Turn off "Reactivation Lock" in Settings > General > Security
Download Odin 3.07 here.
Download the .tar version of TWRP from here.
Download the .zip file for the SuperSU install from here and copy it somewhere on your phone.
Select Odin, click the right button and select “Run as Administrator” (Just to be on the safe side).
Power Off the Phone and reboot in Download Mode (hold the menu button and volume down buttons then press the power button until the device reboots).
Make sure the phone is detected, then click the PDA button, select the .tar file downloaded on Step 4. Make sure that only “Auto reboot” and “F. Reset Time” are selected. Click the “Start” button. The Phone should reboot once finished.
Power Off the Phone and reboot in Recovery Mode (hold the menu button and volume up buttons then press the power button until the device reboots).
Install the SuperSU .zip file from step 5.
Now it is also a good time to make full backup of the phone from TWRP. Reboot when done.
?
Profit
Once Rooted you can use Xposed installer, AdAway, Root explorer and Titanium Backup to clean up personalize your phone (See next post).

1st one to thank!
Thanks I was hoping for a guide just like this. My DevS5 comes in Monday, I guess by next day delivery they mean the next 5th day delivery, but I'm going to test out some mods for other carriers S5's, and hopefully we can get a nice list of working mods going.

Because you are wrong. The Verizon s5 and verizon dev s5 are the same forum. You'd know that if you read the other threads.

Make sure the phone is detected, then click the PDA button, select the .tar file downloaded on Step 3. Make sure that only “Auto reboot” and “F. Reset Time” are selected. Click the “Start” button. The Phone should reboot once finished.
Power Off the Phone and reboot in Recovery Mode (hold the menu button and volume up buttons then press the power button until the device reboots).
Install the SuperSU .zip file from step 4.
Now it is also a good time to make full backup of the phone from TWRP. Reboot when done.
?
Profit
Once Rooted you can use Xposed installer, AdAway, Root explorer and Titanium Backup to clean up personalize your phone (See next post).

Yes it works perfectly, and takes no time at all. Also this is my first experience with Xposed, and it's incredible how many options you have and how it well it works universally on many devices.

Minor feedback:
I suspect that step 2 was appended. As such, in steps 8 and 10 the reference to prior steps needs +1. So, step 8 should refer back to step 4 and step 10 should refer back to step 5.
Thank you!

Hi guys, i'm trying to figure out if i need to Root and install TWRP Recovery 1st to be able to backup the bootloader, or do i need to backup the bootloader before i do any of these steps?
Strange, this didn't work for me. Odin went through and then threw out a fail.
das7982's Odin rescue/rooted image, that worked w/ Odin and got me back up again.

Ahh, your right, I didn't. I just saw Odin and thought it was the usual rinse/repeat steps and stupidly ignored the steps before.

Tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (GT-P5113) Wifi only.
OS: Android 4.2.2 Jellybean
Build#: P5113UEUCMK3
So here is what I have done:
Ran Odin v3 1.85 and pushed CF-Auto-Root-expresso10wifi-expresso10wifibby-gtp5113.tar.md5
I followed the instructions to the letter. The Odin process runs, red Android screen....tablet process runs...neither process reports errors...No Root.
When I try SuperSU I get "There is no SU binary installed...." blah blah see it all over the forums but nothing I have tried has fixed either problem. I even put the SuperSU.apk on a micro SD and it won't install over to replace the binary. SuperSU does not show up in my Applications list so I cannot remove it.
So I did hard resets, wiped cache etc..
No change.
Next I downloaded the factory ROM P5113UEUCMK3_P5113XACCND2_HOME.tar.md5 from Samsung and pushed it over successfully.
No change.
I cannot get root to take so I cannot manually remove SuperSU using a file manager (requires root)
I would really like to get my tablet rooted so i can install other apps.
Any one with information that will help me solve this will be my new hero...briefly...
Thanks in advance!

Yes I did.
I'm having the exact same problem with my P5110.
Is anyone really gonna help here?
I have the same issue with GT-P3113.
To root or not to root?
Which one is it people? If you can't file explore because you don't have root you just delete SU from your apps (Manage apps) drawer.
Then you just go about your typical rooting, following the Op instructions and your done.
Pp.
I can only turn on and off supersu, can't delete or uninstall it.
Also despite turning it off and checking the appstore, there's no uninstall button, even when I did update it with a new apk it still won't do anything. Still says the same thing. no Binary and can't even install one.

As I mentioned SU is not in my App manager and therefore cannot be removed. I attempted to download and install the SU apk from micro SD and it failed.
So I am stuck with no root and unable to get a file manager running to manually remove SU.
I have the same problem with my P3113
Do you have a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) installed? If so you can download and flash the latest SuperSU.zip
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
Well I had the exact same problem, and I think that the SuperSU included on the CF-Auto-Root file is outdated or something.
I was on android 4.2.2 but I have the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5110.
I searched the forums and came up with a solution for our problem. I think that SuperSU is outdated on that CF-Auto-Root file or it was the custom recovery that it installs thats outdated or messed up for android 4.2.2, because right after it does its thing, we get the tablet default recovery again.
Since I dont know how to make a new CF-Auto-Root file, I tried to install an updated custom recovery through Odin3 instead of the CF-Auto-Root file, and it worked. Then I entered on the TWRP recovery and installed an updated SuperSU, restarted the tablet, and it worked too. I had now a rooted tablet with a permanent custom recovery, So i followed to install a custom rom, etc.
So now the steps I did:
(I am not responsible if it doesnt work for your tablet and messes something up or brick it, so please follow on your own risk, or maybe wait for some expert on this things to say if its safe or not. All i know is that it worked for me.)
Step 1: Download Stuff
Download and install samsung usb drivers
Go to Samsung website and search for your device. Go to downloads and download the USB Driver and install it.
Download Odin3 1.85_3
Go to this topic and download Odin3 3.85_3 from the "What you need:" section. Extract it on your computer.
Download TWRP recovery
Go to TWRP website, click "Get TWRP for your device", search for 5110 (doesn't have the 5113 version, and I think that the 5110 is the same and works too), scroll down to "Download - Odin Flashable Tar:" and click the "5110 only" version. It will open another page, scroll down for the most recent version and download the .tar file. Extract it on your computer.
Download SuperSU for TWRP
Go to Chainfire website and download that SuperSU version for TWRP. Dont extract, just put it on your SD card for the tablet.
Step 2: Doing stuff.
Install samsung drivers, extract Odin to your computer and put the SuperSU file on your SD card for the tablet.
(To avoid confusion about using the Volume rocker switch, I'll refer to side closest to POWER button as LEFT/Volume DOWN and side away from power switch as RIGHT/VolumeUP. )
1: Turn off the tablet and restart it on download mode. To enter download mode, press Power Button + Volume Right. When the warning appears press Volume Left to enter download mode.
2: Now open Odin3 1.85, click PDA, select the TWRP .tar file you downloaded.
3: Make sure to uncheck the "Auto Reboot" option. The only checked thing must be "F. Reset Time".
4: Connect usb cable to tablet. Press start. When it finishes, the box will turn green and says "pass!" you can remove the cable.
5: Now press Power button + Volume Left. Keep pressing it, the tablet should restart and when the samsung galaxy tab 2 screen appears, let go of the power button, but keep pressing Volume Left until the TWRP recovery screen appears.
6: Now inside TWRP recovery menu, press Install. On the top part of the screen press Storage and and change to external storage or SD card. Now select the SuperSU file and install it by swiping that thing. After it install and says successful, press reboot.
Congratulations ! Now you have successfully rooted your tablet and you have a permanent custom recovery ! You can now install a custom rom, etc.
Some notes:
I used TWRP recovery because i used it on my smartphone. So thats what I learned to use, so I used it on the tablet too. Feel free to use other custom recovery and adapt the tutorial for it.
It worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, or something is failing on some step, try to read everything again and re-do.

I just put together things from here and there, but without this persons, creators and stuff, we would not be able to make this happen.
Hi
I found a russian site how to root the Cube T8 Plus h**p://4pda.ru/forum/lofiversion/index.php?t695306.html. Here a short translation:
Disclaimer: ******* I'm not responsible for any damages *******
1. Download SuperSu directly to your Cube T8 from official site: h**p://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
2. Download Flash Utility/Driver on your PC: h**p://uploaded.net/file/eyo5yt8c
3. Download TWRP for Cube T8 on your PC: h**p://uploaded.net/file/o54jinin and extract its content to a folder.
Mirror: https://drive.google.com/drive/fold...ourcekey=0-11J8nUVn2_sUUAPHA9kwWg&usp=sharing
4. Install Device Driver from Step 2. on your PC (you have to agree Security warning). Depending on Windows version used, disabling Driver Signing might be required prior installation.
5. Start flash_tool.exe
6. Go to "Download" tab and Click "Scatter-Loading" Button, move to folder created in Step 3. and select the file "MT6753_Android_scatter.txt". Press the "Download" Button
7. Power down your Cube T8 tablet. After power down, connect it to a USB Port on your PC (No, you don't need to power it up - leave it powered down!). After a few moments, the flash tool should recognise the tablet and will install twrp recovery and should show "Success" Screen
8. Remove tablet from PC. Boot into Boot Selection by pressing Volume-Up and Power button simultaneously, Select "Recovery" and wait for twrp booting up.
9. In twrp, Install Zip File downloaded on Step 1. This should be found in Folder "MyFavorite"
10. Reboot device. By selecting "Reboot" in twrp, the device will hang. But don't worry; just press the power button for about 10 seconds for a forced reboot.
11. Voilà, you have a rooted Cube T8 Plus
Thanks for the guide. Can you provide more mirror? Uploaded is currently blocked in my country. Google Drive would be sweet.
Thanks.
Anybody tried this?
It works perfectly, but I had to disable the driver's signature check.
Now I just need the modified scatter file to get a better memory repartition. These russian guys on pda.ru found out how to repartition the memory, but the file is now disappeared from internet http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=695306&st=560#entry44767726
Yes !
it worked for me but i didnt succeed in installing the right driver (package given in this post was correctly installed) for tablet in off mode,
so i had to force download of recovery and if SuperSU install (with error) when i launch it it warn for binary installation.
but root is effective and i can now use soft like adaway or else that need complete root access :victory:

That's weird, it worked flawlessly for me.
By the way, the internal 2 GB storage is way to small for me, I need a bigger partition and since the 4pda guys deleted their scatter files, I'm trying to create it by myself following this guide, I hope to not mess up things
Ok, I found the scatter editor (that was deleted too). Here you can download it. OP, if you want, you can add it in the guide.
Thanks for your feedback and your work Dyonysus, i assume all errors was consecutive to Kingroot installation (he didn't succeed in rooting but i left it installed when i flashed the recovery as i checked sometmes if a root policy was avaible)
This root guide can be used for Cube T8 also?
I also confirm this method works perfectly. Good job finding this.

So, have you succeeded in repartitioning the internal memory? If yes, did you face any issues or errors in the process and is the device stable and working as fast afterwards?

Unfortunately I didn't. I got a bunch of problems tryin' to forge the new scatter file and, when I finally got a decent one, the damn tool didn't flash it properly.
If someone could find those two files or just ask those russian guys to upload them again, it'd be terrific.
Hi,

You need SD card for that.
Cube T8 Plus TWRP and root:
1. Download SuperSu and copy it to the root of SD card (without extracting): http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
2. Downlad Utility/Driver to PC: http://uploaded.net/file/eyo5yt8c
3. Download Cube T8 TWRP recovery to PC: http://uploaded.net/file/o54jinin and unpack.
4. Install driver on PC. Depending on Windows version, if the driver installation fails, it may be necessary to disable signature check (google for that).
5. Run flash_tool (downloaded in step 2). If it doesn't run, try copy it to the root folder of your hard drive, eg. C:\SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Windows_v5.1516.00\, albo D:\SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Windows_v5.1516.00\
6. In "Download" section choose "Scatter-Loading" point to "MT6753_Android_scatter" from /Recovery (downloaded in step 3), press "Download" button.
7. Turn off the tablet. Connect it via USB to PC (tablet needs to be switched off!). After short while, flashing tool should recognize the tablet and start flashing automatically, installing TWRP recovery. After that you should get "Success" screen.
8. Disconnect tablet from PC. Run it in Recovery by pressing VOLUME_UP and POWER simultanously.
9. Using VOLUME_UP, choose "Recovery" and confirm it by pressing "VOLUME_DOWN". Wait untill TWRP starts.
10. In TWRP choose 'install ZIP' and point to "/external sd/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip"
11. After installation is finished, choose "Reboot". Recovery will hang, but do not fear Press Power for 10s to force turn off. Then turn on the tablet.
Your tablet is now rooted!
Change partition size:
1. Download and copy to the root of SD (without extracting) Resize_v22.4.1-signed.zip: (take attachment from the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-how-to-resize-data-internal-t3180978/ )
2. Run the tablet in Recovery by pressing VOLUME_UP and POWER simultanously.
3. Using VOLUME_UP, choose "Recovery" and confirm it by pressing "VOLUME_DOWN". Wait untill TWRP starts.
4. In TWRP choose 'install ZIP' and point to "external sd/Resize_v22.4.1-signed.zip""
5. In one of following windows choose the partition size. I recommend between 8GB and 10GB. WARNING: If you choose less than the current size, you may loose your data. More than or equal to 8GB is a safe value.
Enabling Multiuser accounts:
1. The device must be rooted
2. Use any root explorer to edit /system/build.prop.
3. Add to the end of a file:
Code:
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=5
4. Reboot
Info: After first try to swich to guest the device force rebooted, but then it worked well.
Disabling killing background apps
If you encounter situation in which apps are being killed right after they are put to background (each application switch using recent apps causes application reinitialization), just make sure that Developer Options/Apps/Don't keep activities is switched off!
Permamently disabling pre-installed chinese apps (they will not reappear after full reboot)
There are 6 chinese apps pre-installed, which can be easily disabled. You can try to simply uninstall them, but you'll find that after full reboot they reappear.
So the best way to disable them is to use any root explorer and get rid APKs in /system/vendor/operator/app. I myself renamed app folder to app.old. They do not appear anymore.
What to do if tablet seems to be dead (black screen - no reaction), but it just misbehaves
Couple of times I've had a situation in which the screen was blank and I couldn't wake up the device. I could however run recovery, so the first time I performed reset from recovery and it helped.
Next time I found out that it's automatic brightness that fails and causes the screen to go blank. So the solution is to press power button, make a swipe gesture from the top to show brightness slider (you will not see it, but it works even on the lockscreen), and try to blindly press this slider. It should be about 2,7 cm (1,06 inch) from the top, with ca. 3cm (1,2 inch) margins on the left and right. Then stop using autobrightness with slider set to zero.
Thanks a ton
Amazing , followed your instructions and my tablet is now rooted and also has 9+GB of data partition. Thanks a ton.. Keep up the good work.
--Rao:
after using the resize script it not remount the partition and android not start. Android ask for a password to "decrypt data" but the problem is that the partition is missing.
Any suggest about this?
thanks
For the moment i can resize partition up to 6 gb using a edited scatter file
Please can I use this safely on the original Cube T8?

I've taken the link from the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-how-to-resize-data-internal-t3180978/ - see attached files, to get a correct link. I wouldn't reupload this. It looks like x-d is rotating attachment links.
Please edit your quotation so it does not contain wrong link.

Later,
dd if=/storage/extSdCard/recovery.img of =/dev/block/platform/7824900.sdhci/by-name/recovery
hit enter *please make sure youve type it correctly before hitting ENTER*
Once finished turn off your device and go into recovery mode.

Im usin a straighttalk SM-M820L. Is there any way any of this can be done without a pc? My phone is rooted tho. I used the {yup you guessed it} kingroot method and then i did the "replace kingroot with supersu" no pc method. Is there any tips or pointers that you could give me? I'm not using a pc because it was stolen a little while back and I just haven't had the spare cash to get another. Plus I just started tinkering with this and it's super more interesting than I thought. I'm trying to learn all that I can. Thank you for any help you can offer.
