T-Mobile Assurance phone replacement - T-Mobile LG G2

I was just wondering if anyone has gotten their G2 replace by T-Mobile's insurance, Assurance and if the unit they received was new?
I'm getting my replacement tomorrow and UPS tracking is indicating it's a 1 pound box, so I'm not sure if that indicates just a phone without its box and in turn a remanufactured unit

It's Asurion. And yes it'll be refurbished.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk

The only way it won't be a refurbished phone, is if the phone is too new and they don't have enough refurbs to give out. In addition, if that was the case, they would usually offer something they deem to be equivalent. If they don't have any refurbs, and you argue the "equivalent"(it never is) phone, they will then send you a new one. I have gotten a new one this way, because the phone I had was a limited edition(they offered me the standard edition). I argued that the standard was not equivalent because I paid a premium for it being limited edition. How they were able to get a new one, I'll never know, but they did.
With UPS, a lot of companies will just put 1 pound rather than the actual weight. The price difference is negligible.

It's not Asurion, I guess if you're in the "Jump" program they use Assurance instead of Asurion.

Then forget just about everything I said because I was talking about Assurion.

I guess you don't have to forget everything I said, different company, same processes. Click on the replacement devices dropdown.

You get a reconditioned phone or a new equivalent if there aren't enough reconditions to go around.

I got a new one when they sent a replacement
with a charger and an extra sim card

i got a brand new one. took 2 weeks because it wasnt in the system.

I got a replacement. It took 1 day to arrive.

I've delt with T-Mo's replacement a lot, I've had about 8 replacements (practically in a row) with my T989, because of the screen issue.
The easiest way to do this is through their chat support by the way, quick and easy. If you are getting a replacement due to hardware failure/defect, it's not using Assurion, that's only for user caused damage.
However, you always get a refurb, usually next day, and you CAN deny the replacement phone if you see it not fit as a replacement, as I had done many times, (screen blobs, lines, sometimes worse than my previous phone) So after my 8th return, I ended up writing the CEO and the executive offices called me, and they upgraded me to the T999 LTE s3 and let me keep my s2. So I sold both and got a G2! hahaha
My advice to you, inspect the replacement with a fine tooth comb, install a screen test app and go into a dark room and closely inspect the screen for any bad pixels or issues as well. Use it for a day and see how you like it. Keep it if you are happy, if for any reason you aren't, call or chat support them and say you refuse this replacement because (reason) and they'll next day you out another one.:good:
Usually their replacements are in like new condition, you can tell they arent brand new, but the screens are usually flawless and new, and for the most part pretty ok. Out of my 8 I had two that I wasn't cosmetically happy with.

Best buy protection plan, any users?

Just wondering if anyone else went in on this plan. For $10 a month the phone is covered and insured with no dedudtible for any reason (as long as you bring ima piece of the phone in. Also is covered for scratches or anything else. Anyone have this or have negative reasons on it? JW as I'm fairly skeptical even though I put in for it. (Cancel at any time)

I'm glad there are other people that brought this up. I have this too and fully intend to utilize it, as the damn platinum case has scratched my phone and I'm anal about that. They will surely lose money off me from this. I'm wondering how hard a replacement will be to get with the black tie protection. Also, once you make a claim, can you make another down the road or is it one and done?

I bought it. for $10 a month with no deductible I totally think it's worth it. and it's so much easier just bringing it in the store as opposed to having to send it to tmobile.
I'm glad you guys have utilized the plan. As a mobile manager for best buy i can assure you that your phone will be covered for repairs and accidental damage. Water damage is covered also. I recommend filing a claim for battery replacement right away since it is part of the coverage, so now you'll have an extra battery (which you only paid $10 for). Let me know if you guys got any questions.
I did too. I got the impression that the it would always be required to be sent out to see if it can be fixed or needs replacement. Not like the iPhone where they give a refurbished at the register. But, better than tmobiles warranty. Probably keep it no longer than 6 months.. diminishing returns and all that.

We usually give you a comparable loaner phone depending on which model you have. Obviously it won't be a high end android but it's better than nothing. Here's the loaner phone lineup in my store.
Sprint - Samsung Intercept, HTC Hero or LG Optimus
T Mobile - MyTouch Slide, LG Optimus T
At&T - HTC Aria
VZW - Moto Devour, Moto Droid

How do you do that?
When you make a claim they have to order a phone? As in it's done through the mail?
The warranty is nice but since I've already gone through 3 exchanges for defects, I'd be worried about getting another with banding, creased glass, or unresponsive back button if I can't actually see the phone in person.

Call the 800 number on your black tie protection brochure and request for a battery replacement. They will mail you the battery, no other steps needed. Verify your mailing address to be on the safe side.

You will have to visit a Best Buy store so you can get a loaner phone while your device is out for repair. We have a strict no lemon policy so if it's considered defective 3 times / or deemed unrepairable you are eligible for a replacement for the same phone or get credit towards a device of your choice.
looking for a horror story? right this way sir....
i had a problem with white spots on my screen and the usb port on the phone not charging. i took it into best buy so the could send it off for repair. what these guys are failing to tell you about the loaner phones is that a $150 deposit is required. anyhow, 2 weeks later i get a call that my phone is in. well, the screen issues weren't even addressed and while the usb port now charges, i can't transfer data using my pc. so i had it right back, while still in the store. they said it would have to be sent out again, but will be marked for escalation, which i'm told means it will be sent overnight, bumped up in que for immediate repair and sent back overnight. flash forward one week and i find out that my phone was sent through general mail, meaning it took the phone one week to arrive at the tech center. i asked why it wasn't overnighted. yesterday i got an email from a geek squad representative saying that while they apologize for the inconvienence, the store's request that my phone be escalated was denied. no reason given when asked why. so i am going to be without my phone for at least a month, which i am finding out is the norm when dealing with BB and black tie protection. my advice would be to avoid BB altogether.
if we dont opt in for the store insurance, do we call google or samsung if the phone breaks down from anything besides user wear?

Thats a little hard to do if you live in America and want a Nexus S. People often forget that stores are chains and that while service might be horrible at one location, it will be different at another. I used to work for BB (I quit because I hated the corporate morality towards their employees) but our store had amazing customer service which is still does (I bought my Nexus S there). However, the BB in the next city of sucks donkey balls. We very often had people coming from that BB into ours and telling us how incompetent we were until they realized we were different than the other store.
I've known a lot of people who have had great luck with black tie. And a few who had bad luck. Its people, not the company. If you have an issue with a location, complain to corporate or don't buy from that one and go to another.
Go to BB own website. Visit their community forums, especially the Best Buy & Geek Squad Policies. You will find that black tie protection and BB customer service is going down the drain at a record pace. Not every complaint is legitimate for sure, but notice that on not 1 single complaint does BB take responsibility for anything. It is always just a mistake, a error on someone else's part or it is beyond their control. Never a "whoops, sorry about that. Here, let us make that up to you."

Have you ever heard a corporation say that publicly? I saw and made sure every customer walked out happy when I worked there (again, I left because of corporates attitude towards us, the employee). I happily got the protection because I know the store to which I would be going and I know they will have my ass.

I believe it does but you would have to pay a deductible.
Heres a link to their site with more info:

If its lost or stolen, then you need to file a police report.
it covers everything ... but you pay the deductible ... i believe it is 125$ for the inspire.

I actually just did an insurance claim on my inspire. ***** pushed me in a pool and had my inspire in my pocket and fried it instantly. They will have you call an 800 number to process your claim, in which they will ask you questions on the condition of your phone. They will mail you a brand new, non refurbished phone in the mail, which takes a couple days to arrive in the mail. Once received, you will have to mail your original phone back using the same box your new phone came in. You have 10 days to send in your old phone before additional charges apply. A deductible of $125 will be charged to your account.

SPOBI. They always try refurbished devices first, if none are available then you may get a new one.
And technically cosmetic damage is not covered...usability has to be impacted. That's not to say you can't make a case for some software issue haha....
Whatever you do remember that you can only have 3 claims in any 12 month period.

Best Buy's Black Tie Covers all damage that affects the usability of the phone. So not just some light scratches unless you prove it keeps you from using your phone properly. It does not cover loss, theft, or total submersion in water (how that's supposed to proven, I dunno). The phone is sent out as a "rapid-exchange" where you'll have a refurbished phone in your hands in 3-5 business days.
Before the new rapid-exchange system, it used to be that if the phone was not cost effective to fix, they would tell the store to give you a brand new one. This is no longer true as of recently.
EDIT: The phone does have to be purchased at Best Buy.. unless it is an iPhone and you have a receipt showing it was purchased new within 30 days.

Actually best buy gives you brand new phones. If they have the phone in stock they gladly just swap it out if you can reproduce the problem right then and there. No refurbs and no deductible. I think it's about 9 or 10 dollars a month.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
It's store manager discretion if they swap it out with a brand new one at BBY. Actual SOP is send out to be fixed and the customer is offered a loaner phone. If it takes 30 days or the repair is not cost effective (total destruction of phone or severe water damage) then the phone is replaced with new device.
The rapid Exchange process mentioned above is rolling out in waves by carrier at BBY. Currently only VZW is all rapid exchange, ATT is still 'send for service'.
The misinformation floating around astounds me...

Returned My 2ND G2X , Now Im Stuck With Blackberry :-(

Im so depressed lol. Blackberry sucks. I remember when i use to love their phones. Now that i have been long exposed to android i dont know what to do without them. Here's my story: First G2X blew out on me during a call and i returned it. The rep in the store couldnt turn it on and try to find signs of water damage which there werent any. Second G2X had serious bleeding in the upper corner. I tried to disregard it but im very anal about my devices especially when i buy them outright. I returned it and got credit on my account that supposedly cant be touched unless i notify tmobile. My friend works for tmobile and told me a new shipment is coming in a little after Mothers day. So ill try my luck again and hopefully get a good unit. I dont really suggest anyone buy one via craigslist or ebay but as you can see most sellers are not accepting returns. Wish me luck guys.
i work at a tmobile store and we get shipments every business day. no deliveries saturday/sunday
dont know why they wouldn't be getting anything til after mothers day. plus we only get notifications 4 days ahead of time of what the shipment contains.

Did you use a debit card or cc? They dont give you money back? I'm thinking about returning mine... They give you store credit back?
was this a corporate owned location?
we always give full refunds within 14 days of purchase for contract extensions and 30 days of purchase for full-price. if it was through a third party retailer it would make much more sense as to why they only give you credit.
it was a tmobile seller not a tmobile retailer. they said i can use the credit to go to a actual tmobile store to purchase it. im waiting because i dont want any problems. i know all cell phones have issues but i would rather have a issue that can be fixed by a soft mod or something.

is that true about the 30 days for full price purchasers? or is that california only? i bought mine online from tmo. i never heard of this policy. can more than one person confirm this please?
Just got G2X for the wife, fast phone. There is slight bleeding but very minor and how many G2x I have to go through for it to be perfect.
I'm waiting for SGS2 myself. Superamoled has more pop to its colors. G2X has more natural white. Superamoled + should be better and bigger screen.

as far as i know the 30 day policy for full price is nation-wide in corporate retail stores.
it prints out the policy on every single one of our receipts on the bottom, and i'd imagine it would do that in the whole country as well.
My story:
My phone had bleeding/rebooting issues so I decided to exchange.
Called T-Mobile and explained the issues.
CCR told to pack it and send it to T-Mobile Return Center and call them as soon as I shipped it with the tracking number and they will send me the exchange right away. (cool)
I went to my UPS online account, created a shipping label (with tracking number).
Called T-mobile again and told them:
- I just sent my defective phone back here is the tracking number ........ .
CCR started ordering my replacement (took some time, apparently was having a hard time).
At the end, CCR said to me: Okay I had to cancel your order and we will reimburse your money in a couple of days, and we will need to make a new order. (thats when it came to me)
- Can I bye it at my local store so if it has any problem I can exchange in-store?
CCR: Sure thats very smart of you.
No restocking fee, they will pay my shipping.
Already bought it at the store and will be sending the other one tomorrow.
- The new one has the same bleeding problem, same poor signal strengths. At least I haven't had any reboot YET. Will wait for a couple of days without rooting to make sure it is not a rooting issue.

keep us updated.
i work in a tmobile store and always check every g2x before it goes out. pretty much every single one i've seen has had some sort of bleeding (opened at least 15 boxes in store)
so honestly i think the best bet is to get a replacement or repair done by LG directly instead of just exchanging it for another one.
my g2x also has a bit of bleed, but i'm going to wait till CM7 comes out to see if its noticeable or not.
everyone should keep in mind that these phones do come with a 1yr manufacturers warranty, and the screen bleed issue does fall under that warranty. so even if you miss your tmobile exchange window, you're still covered.

Assurion Insurance for SIII

I was wondering what would your opinion be on this for the SIII, its my first time with a contract, before i just traded phones, but i bought insurance just incase something happens and the duductible isnt all that bad! just wondering if they are a good company all together and worth it for my S3 incase it breaks!
Yes well worth it

Might as well get it if phone is brand new
Sent from that young galaxy.
God bless the American people.
For me I personally do not believe in the whole insurance/warranty services. Examples being Asurion (Insurance) and SquareTrade (Warranty). Also to me carrier warranties are also bull.
Asurion $7/month $99 Deductible
Covers damage/lost device
SquareTrade $7/month ($125 2 years) $99 Deductible
Only covers repairs not lost device.
Manufacturers Warranty
12 Months FREE covers any manufacturers defects
For me why would I pay $125-175 + $99 if anything happens to my phone. So I am looking at $2-300 dollars if anything breaks or I lose my device. For that price I will take the risk. If my screen breaks I will use $50 to replace myself or pay a shop $80 or a $99 deductible. Mechanical problems with antennae/physical buttons I will pay a shop $120 to fix it or a $99 deductible. Did I lose my phone on the beach? Guess I will have to buy a generation behind, and get a used device on craigslist for $2-300 or a $99 Deductible.
Either way you are paying 2 years of insurance, and a deductible. You are better off just saving your money, and buying a decent slim case like a UAG. Unless you plan on regularly losing your device, and running it over repeatedly (to which I would assume they limit) then do not fall for the scam of insurance for your cell phone.
The way I see it if it does not fail within the first year the manufacturer made it just fine, and with normal use my phone will last me just fine. I would rather keep my $300 on hand in worst case scenario than give my money to another company.
Yeah if you're a pro that works for the usually rookie to android's world it wouldn't. Not everyone can do it all like you and I. That's why I recommend coverage . I've already replaced mine three times and haven't spent a penny... If you brick it on purpose they won't charge you anything... Just saying

i believe assurion limits you to 2 replacements in a 12 month period...
I go with best buy and never had a problem . Yes I know I'm paying 10 bucks a month, but to me that's better than paying some shaddy phone repair shop. I already have used them one time since I got the phone because I some how bent one of the usb pens. The repair process was fast and easy only had to drop the phone off and pick it up .

Asurion limits you to 2 replacements for physical damage/theft/lost although you can get unlimited warranty replacements. IMO it's worth it for the warranty portion alone. If you're not worried about losing it or physically damaging it, just pay the $1.99 per month for the extended warranty. If something goes wrong with your phone after 12 months you're SOL whereas if you at least have the $1.99 you can get a cert-replacement.
I usually tell people to use either insurance or extended warranty for 20 months, after that you can drop it off your plan since at that point you'll be eligible for renewal.
I hard bricked my phone. Told asurion it was lost. Paid $99. Not rooting the replacement. If you play with ROMS it's worth the money.

If you're messing around with your phone a lot and somewhat of butterfingers like me , get insurance!
I cover all my electronics with SquareTrade; reliable and cheaper.
Personally I have signed up for the insurance, and have gotten good use of it as well. Yes, you can find a used on on CL or ebay, but you dont know the condition of it.
Plus they overnight you a new phone as soon as you make the claim, and are not tied to finding the best "deal" in short notice. Once you are out of contract and IF you keep your phone (dont upgrade right away), I might consider getting rid of the coverage.
How about the replacement phones? what are the chances of getting a new device? and chances of choosing a different device? and customer service
I had my phone a month. It was rooted with another rom in it. I got drunk at my birthday party and had the phone in my swimming trunks pocket all day. I forgot it was there and I jumped in my pool that evening. After about 5-10 min I realized what I'd done. I used rice to help dry it out over a couple days. It would power up but the screen would not come up. I was able to Odin it back to stock and sent it in to Assurion. No questions asked what so ever on the replacement.

I had to file a claim this past November and was sent a new in box S3! I doubt that is typical though.
My kid did a number on my wifes phone the casing was cracked all the way around, took about 5 minutes online at 7pm last Friday night, by 1245pm the next day, Saturday. Brand new phone, SIM, and battery. It was well worth it.

I was wondering what would your opinion be on this for the SIII, its my first time with a contract, before i just traded phones, but i bought insurance just incase something happens and the duductible isnt all that bad! just wondering if they are a good company all together and worth it for my S3 incase it breaks!

Assurion sucks!! Takes 3 days to arrive, ALWAYS REFURBISHED! Covers everything but cheaper alternatives exist. If your not prone to losing your phone, get a zagg, otter box and don't waste your 7 bucks a month PLUS 130 dollar deductible.

Zero chance of getting a new device and not a chance of picking a new one. I used to work for them.

Asurion is absolutely amazing. Their customer service is great and they're fast, easy, and helpful. I was visiting my friend who goes to a different college a few hours away and i lost my phone at some party. i waited a couple days in case it was found....which it wasnt. I called up Asurion and told them everything that happened, I filed for a claim and the next morning they said they would be able to send out a new phone and all I had to pay was the deductible. I got the phone within 48 hours, so I DEFINITELY recommend Asurion, they literally cover ANTYHING, whether it's water damage, broken, or even if you lost it.
and i know many people are thinking that they could just CLAIM that it's lost and get a new one by paying just the deductible. noooo that is not possible (at least i dont think...), because you have to provide your imei number, so they can block it from being used
I've had nothing but good experiences. I have 5 lines and have used them for insurance for at least 5 years. I've had to make at least 2 claims a year (well I've never had to but for the other 4 lines) and I've always had great customer support, overnight delivery and a new phone. The only time I've had a "problem" is when they didn't have a Inc2 in stock and they sent my wife a DROID RAZR.

I had a bad experience with them just a couple months ago and posted a thread about it here you could search for. They basically said it would be a week or two before they could send me ANY replacement at all - they gave me zero options to choose from after telling me they were out of the S3. After a few calls and couple hours of threatening them, they finally offered to reimburse me if I went out and bought a brand new one. Decent result, but really had to fight for it and took a lot of hassle (and I definitely started off politely asking for any options aside simply waiting for a couple weeks without a phone).
Key word: Refurbished.

LG G3 REFURBS?? Shipping Issues

Are we really receiving refurbished LG G3???
Ordered my replacement phone on Aug 28th and didn't get it yesterday as promised. So I called ATT and they told me they were having shipping issues with DHL and that the phone is still at DHL's warehouse. I told them that was unacceptable so they sent me out another phone yesterday and it got here today . Same model, same software build number. Know I don't know if I want to restart everything over again to go through wireless charging stopping a day later. ATT says it a refurb but the phone hasen't been out long to be having this many refurbs.Right??? It has to be a new phone without the back cover, battery, and what ever else that's in the original LG box. I asked the ATT lady If I could sent back the phone, box and everything that comes in it back to start fresh to make sure it wasn't my battery as well as my phone. The lady stated that all warranty issues come with the phone only per LG. So do you really think we are getting refurb phones?
Its not impossible. Refurb dosnt mean it was broken. It could be just one of the many g3 returned after a few days because they didnt like it.

You'll almost always get a refurbished unit after a warranty claim. They are probably sitting on a mountain of refurbs sent back for people not liking the screen tone, or the buttons feel, or the weight of the phone... Etc... Etc... Once it leaves the store and gets returned it goes back to be 'reworked' hence the term refurbished. They RMA them, they get unpacked - inspected - tested - then repacked as you just received yours. If nothing is wrong, and it passes all cosmetic inspection criteria, then you are basically just getting a phone someone used for a day, week, maybe month and returned.

Yes, 95% of replacements are refurbished. They tell you that when you call for warranty service.

Att is swapping out my s5 for a g3 as soon as they get the full kit with a charger, battery, and plastic back in stock. Who knows when that will be.

Took me over a week to get my replacement because of DHL. I got a replacement for the wireless charging also. For some reason my phone sat in the DHL warehouse for 5 days. It seems like I have always had problems with DHL. Got my phone today and so far the wireless charging is fine for how ever it's gonna last.
It would seem they are not sitting on a mountain of them, they still can't get me one with a battery and back plate from the warranty department. I want to get this phone but I can't sit on it forever while my current phone isn't working. Sometimes I hate at&t.

I would have to say that most, if not all, of the back plates get scrapped during the RMA process. Very rarely do they receive the device with a back plate that's immaculate enough to ship with a refurbished phone. Consumer devices such as phones can not have any scratches, dents, or other blemishes on any Class A surface. The entire device outer shell is a Class A surface, so during the RMA process they replace a lot of cosmetic plastics. Because of that, they are likely sitting on a mountain of refurbished phones, but not back plates due to those getting scrapped at RMA intake.
**Note - I can speak with some level of authority on this matter, as I am a process engineer for an electronics contractor that builds boards and finished devices. My specific group produces medical devices, but we have other facilities that produce consumer electronics for nearly all of the major device manufacturers. ?

So I have a predicament. My G3 does crazy stuff when on mobile data. Last night at dinner my G3 went from LTE to 4G to E to G then after about 5 mins went back to 4G and occasionally back to E. Mean while my wife's GS5 had LTE the whole time
I've already tried a new Sim card and that didn't fix anything. Other than the mobile data my phone is fine, I hate to have it replaced and end up with a refurb that does the same thing.
What should I do? Are all the G3s this bad with mobile data? Or is mine screwed up?

Have you tried reloading the factory image. There is a thread in the general section on reloading back to stock. Its pretty easy and if you donr want to chance a refurb then give it a shot.
