I am on an ATT LTE plan.
I had a Samsung Galaxy S2 with LTE, and it ran 15mpbs+ DL all the time in my primary location.
Received a Nexus 5, and LTE can only achieve 0.5 to 1mpbs DL
Has anyone had any experience with this slow speed error on ATT with the Nexus 5?
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you!

Are you being throttled? Sounds like a network issue. have you contacted AT&T about it?

I don't believe I am.
1. I rarely use 2GB of data+ a month (one occurance in 12 previous months)
2. It is the start of a billing cycle on Nov 1, with the Nexus 5 arriving last Friday Nov. 8.
3. I have use 943 of Unlimited from Oct27-Present according to ATT website.

Go to the AT&T store. You may need a different sim or they may have to reset parts of your account. I'm actually getting better LTE speeds with this than I was with my Galaxy S4 on Verizon. Verizon's speed has slowly declined as more and more people have started using LTE devices, but AT&T seems to be fairly-consistently above the mix.
You should be achieving the same speed or slightly better than your old GS3 (updated radio firmwares and hardware are much faster than their predecessors).

I would check it with a different phone to see if the speeds are different. If they aren't then call ATT. If the are different that is an interesting issue.
I am guessing a new SIM card and proper provisioning of your account will work out well for you.

When I received my new Nexus 5 I went to the ATT store and because my SIM (Samsung GS2) didn't fit, they provided and activated a new Micro SIM for the phone.
I will go back to the store to see if they can give me a new SIM, and assure that it is provisioned properly.
I will let you know the results by the end of the week.
Thank you all for your help!

I called AT&T and they had the wrong IMEM number. They corrected it in the database, and I restarted my phone.
There was a 4-5Mbps improvedment in upload speeds on LTE on my Nexus 5, in the location where my old Samsung Galaxy S2 received 15Mbps+.
The correction of the IMEM number in the AT&T database increased my LTE speeds, but given that my old phone got better speeds I would have to assume that it is a phone issue. (indoor reception in my primary location is worse than SGS2 LTE?)
Thank you all for your help!
i was in Evansville, IN the other day and my Nexus 5 (AT&T) on -73db 4 bars had 15.3 down and 17.8 up, Verizon Wireless on my GSIII had 22.8down and 25.2 up....

Tmo has unlocked BL as well and has the 850 and 1700 freq unlocked. Is this the one that I should order on The 3rd?
Was gonna get a note 2 but figures since I'm buying out right might as well get the best.

I bet the carriers had something to do with the pricing and Samsung with the international models doesn't want to under cut them. There is also regional pricing. Whatever they feel like is a good price considering the competition and people I guess.
We know that from the FCC papers that Tmobile version will work on AT&T LTE but what If those specific bands were locked or not turned on in their radio? We dont have a real world proof yet.
Gonna order mine in 2 days... will post when I get it from time I order to in my hand. I have the new LTE sim cards from STart as well so I can see what happens. I am not LTE yet but hopefully soon. Thanks for the input. ?

I'm also interested to see how this goes. I might wait a few weeks to get the phone, but I do plan on getting one that can work on AT&T's 3G/LTE bands on ST, since T-mobile coverage in my area is pretty poor. Keep us updated, OP, and thanks.

I have ATT LTE Straight Talk sim card. if you notice their policy changed. you only get 2.5GB of unlimitted data at LTE speeds then you are dropped down to 2G Edge speeds until the next billing cycle. If I were you I would try a few of the other carriers. (MVNOs) Be aware that over the past week quite a few of them have changed their policies to allow on y the first 2.5GB at LTE speeds. You can always go to Simple Mobile and pay $60 to get 5GB at LTE speeds. Target just opened up BrightSpot Mobile which has a decent plan for $60 5GB of LTE data. There are alot of MMVNOs to consider.
Any updates
Just wanted to see if anyone could post any updates of how there experience has been with this phone on Straight Talk? Thanks!

Mine has been awesome!
In Ohio with AT&T on the N9005.
They WILL throttle you after 2.5GB, but only during peak hours for your tower
I was able to use all data I wanted (HSPA+. no LTE since I have N9005 and not N900T or N900A) without being throttled at my house out in the boonies. As soon as I go into the city, data speed drops to 250kbps once I've used my 2.5GB. Speed is around 6mbps when I'm not throttled.
PS. My parents have ST on their Nexus 5's and they get 30-50 mbps when not throttled and 250kbps when throttled. If you have the N900T ot N900A, you could expect a similar speed on LTE.

I've been on Ting with my N5 over a month...works great!
You need to have a Sprint SIM (Ting sells them for $10). Then, just go to their pages and activate. If you're already on Ting...the best bet is to give them a phone call...they'll step you thru the process to activate.

I have been using TING on my N5 for a couple weeks.
TING is very good - but be cautioned that I am only running 3G - not getting LTE. This is a coverage issue though - and not a TING or N5 issue.
I was getting 4G on my E4GT - but with my N5 I am now getting worse data speeds as LTE is not in my area
One of the things I really like about the N5 and TING - is I can switch to AT&T or TMobile at any time if LTE doesn't come around on Sprint soon enough!
I've been on Ting for about a week now with my N5. They claim you can only use those bought directly from Google Play and you need to buy a Sprint SIM card (they'll sell you one for $10+tax which is pretty much at cost).
Mine works fine.. gets LTE and everything. Just keep in mind if you use voice or mobile data a LOT then Ting might not be your best choice.. but if you rarely use mobile data or voice (and are in a wi-fi area the vast majority of the time) you can save some serious coin.
I bought my g/f a Purple Galaxy S4 and she bought me a N5 for Christmas. I have both phones on the same Ting account (you can only use Galaxy S4 or HTC One phones that you actually bought from Ting). We text with them more than anything else and have wifi at home and at work and at most restaurants.. and for both phones looks like our bill this month is going to be well under $40 total.

You can possibly pick up those cards on Ebay, I picked one up there and worked great. It is a Sprint Model: SIMGLW206R
I ended up finding a local Sprint repair shop that just gave me one when I asked nicely Love the N5... but I have the same service issues I did with the HTC One when it had a CM/AOSP/GE ROM installed. At this point I'll ride that out and see if it gets better or if I need to find a different provider.
Earlier this week, I went to AT&T to get a new micro sim for my Nexus 5. It works fine on HSPA+. However, I never see it go to LTE. Using the speedtest app, my d/l speeds max out at 2.5Mbps.
I am in an LTE coverage area. I stood right next to a couple of my co-workers with a Moto X and iphone 5. Both of their phones say LTE.
I called 611 (AT&T customer service) to make sure I had LTE coverage. According to their system, both my phone and plan say LTE.
Am I missing anything? Do I need to do anything (play with any settings) to make LTE go on?
Help...
Is it set to LTE and CDMA/GSM?
LTE is selected
Interesting I'm getting mine today and will be using AT&T I'll let you know if I have the same problem
Very weak LTE for me too. I'm a little disappointed in that, but I'm getting 5-8Mbps down with HSPA+
My LTE works fine on AT&T, I've ran some tests and seen 30Mbps

mine is correctly provisioned, and i do see LTE, but it's very weak for me where friends with a Moto X and iPhone 5 see full LTE coverage.
My Nexus 4 on T-Mobile would stay on LTE all day, but my Nexus 5 gets off LTE and goes back to HSPA+ when it drops to 2 bars or less. I am very aggravated. I can get it on LTE if I show it that there is LTE around by going to the secret dialer menu and enabling LTE only, but it is like it doesn't want to get on LTE unless it is 4-5 bars.
I need to see how my wife's Nexus 5 operates and I may end up RMAing mine.
I have yet to see my Nexus 5 on LTE (AT&T), i'm coming from an HTC One and that has connected to LTE without issues, not sure what the issue is, if AT&T is blocking it because its an 'unknown device' or what, has anybody discovered anything new on this?

I'm using a new micro sim since I was previously using a galaxy nexus. I'm thinking that it might be an apn setting issue. If there any way you (or someone else) could list their apn settings? A screenshot would be great.. Thanks in advance.

exactly the same experience. walked in today with my N5, handed it to the tech, transferred my # (coming from VZW), activated a new sim, put it in and off i went into LTE land. no issues at all
I've had the same issue since I got my Nexus 5 last Monday. Went to store, she put in LTE sim. Mine only show H. That's it just "H". Called at&t several times. They tried different settings on the phone. Suppose to send me another sims card in the mail. Also, said they "escalated" my case to a specialist. I should have it resolved by Nov. 11th.
I just simply pop in my sim from my s4

Absolutely not on both counts. The Nexus 5 is a GSM phone, Verizon's network is CDMA. If I were you I would ditch Verizon for either T-Mobile or AT&T, of if you prefer, you can buy service from an MVNO that uses one of their networks.

This is the reason I switched to T-Mobile after 9 years of Being on Verizon. Been with Verizon since right before my 18th bday (27 now) and after all those years of basically being pretty damn happy with my service, they let me down too many times in the last 2 years. First by the fiasco that was the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus, 2nd by not getting the Nexus 4 and then finally, not getting the Nexus 5.
So The fact that they, in my opinion, are ruining Android on CDMA networks, and them not carrying the Nexus 5, was just the final straw and I suspended my account until I can afford to early terminate my Two lines (which are up soon anyways, so I may just un-suspend and let them run their course) and I switched to T-Mobile, got my Nexus 4 while I waited for the 5 to be in Stock, and then Got my Nexus 5.
I also traded in the Note 3 I had on Verizon (with a locked Bootloader) for a T-Mobile version that has an unlocked bootloader.
Case in Point, Verizon is worthless for Android users.

The Nexus 5 is a Sprint phone. Sprint phones can work on Verizon. How do you that? You make work through illegal methods (EXTREMELY DIFFICULT). Which is what I'm working on. My parents won't let me leave Verizon easily. So I kinda have no choice technically. But I ordered a T-mo Sim card anyways and I might just leave without saying anything. Cloning to get a Nexus 5 to work CDMA on Verizon is a total waste....Evdo access only -you would be better off using a different device to WiFi hotspot and just use the Nexus 5 as a tablet until you can leave Verizon. Even if you had a friend internally add the MEID you would still be missing out on the LTE coverage. Big hassle to be going backwards in terms of data connectivity. You could make Google Hangouts calls over the tethered connection and utilizing Google Voice you can forward all calls to Google Talk/Hangouts so it would be like using a WiFi Phone.

I was unaware of the Band 13 support. (I know Verizon's Band 4 LTE AWS is supported)
If you have your Nexus 5 showing Band 13 support and a Verizon rep willing to add your MEID into Verizon's approval list...then I do not see a dilemma with having a full functioning Nexus 5 on Verizon. (Nothing Illegal this route)

Also I had to contact Straight Talk using their facebook page to get the SIM card and it was shipped for free.

What he's saying is he had a VZW phone on VZW and cancelled his service to go with Straight Talk I believe

That's correct. I am now with straight talk with a VZW S3
All I had to do was get the sim card from straight talk and call them to activate it. It was a pretty simple process
From my CM11 S3
So you didn't have to hack the phone or anything?? Verizon is CDMA and Straight Talk is GSM, how did that work? Especially without setting up a new APN?
Oh and did you get the AT&T or TMobile sim? I think straight talk still has the option for either.

It does but straight talk told me the AT&T and T-Mobile sims won't work for this phone. They sent me a CDMA specific sim card, and cmda phones will indeed work on straight talk, not every single one but most
And no I didn't have to do anything with the phone, didn't have to edit apn settings or anything. I'm still running off the Verizon network

Wait, Straight Talk has Verizon SIM's now??? Meaning Verizon is one of their MVNO's? I always thought it was just TMobile and AT&T and Tracfone leased off Sprint for CDMA based phones.

Tracphone owns straight talk for one. It's a straight talk sim... But they piggy back off all 4 networks. VZW, ATT, TMobile and sprint

Are you referring to me?
I was. However I hooked my Old S3 up for a family member. I can confirm that the VZW S3 will get 4G LTE on the Verizon network with the CDMA Sim that comes with the starter pack. Ran a speed test at full signal strength and had an initial burst for ~9-10 mbs and stabilized at ~5mb both up and down. This is way more than the user of the phone will need but also not a bad number.
For comparison sake my personal phone on a VZW unlimited plan still gets 40+ mbs during speed tests in the same location. Appears that ST is speed limited but at 5mbs still more than 99.9% of users will ever need/notice at one time.

Yea I'm not worried about speed as I'm 99% of the time on wifi so I could care less now. The initial starter pack didn't come with the CDMA sim. Card which is a pain but now it does

Quick question for those that have done this already - I have just ordered the Galaxy S3 I535 from walmart because i'm cheap and it was on special - Would it be wise to at least activate the phone on Verizon and entering the details on ST's site to make sure it will work before getting the sim or just ordering it (they are on special right now for .99c) I'm glad they are doing the CDMA sims because i had read that folks were only getting edge for data using the AT&T sims and was prepared to limit myself to being on the Verizon prepaid plan and just sucking it up...

If its the prepaid version it may not work, the prepaid version doesn't utilize a sim card where as the contract version does

Probably a good idea. I'm truly unsure if it will work or not. I have the S3 contract version and it works great on straight talk. Another user informed me the prepaid version doesn't utilize a sim which in most cases at least for VZW means no 4G
