[Q] Please help with unexpected SMS behavior - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I'm using with my N5 with t-mo in the US. I have a rule in Outlook (on my PC) that sends an SMS to my phone in the event that I get an email from a specific individual. So, the message is sent to [email protected]. This message arrives to my phone as an SMS.
With my prior phone (which was using a CM-based 4.2.2 ROM) this message would appear in my SMS client (Slide Messaging Pro; but prior to that was Handcent) identified by the email address, which would then map correctly into Contacts and bring up the correct contact picture (me).
With my N5 running KitKat, the message shows up as from a four digit code ( e.g., 3823, which varies from message to message), and the SMS client can't map it into Contacts to get the picture. Instead, the first part of the message is my email address.
This is hardly mission-critical, but I am wondering if there is some way to strip out the 4 digit code so that the SMS maps to Contacts correctly? I'm currently rooted but using stock recovery, if that matters.

ATT Email to Text (From address)

Short question:
When an email is sent to my txt address at att the sender is listed as a number 1010100001. Can this changed? Is there a workaround to have a computer send me a text from a real address?
Long explanation:
I have a server monitoring system that sends me text message alerts when there is an issue. (I.E. A website is down, Drive space is low.. etc)
I get a LOT of these.
I Just switched From Verizon to ATT.
On Verizon the Email was sent to [email protected] and it said it was from the email address of my monitoring server. On ATT any email sent to my text address ([email protected]) comes in from 1010100001 and this number seems to increment for each email I get to my text address.
I know it's not my Tilt2, because my wife’s Iphone does the same thing.
Is there any workaround?
Is anyone aware of another way to send these alerts rather than a straight email to my text address?
It's very hard to glance at my messages now and see if there is an issue I should deal with without opening each message.
On VZW, I could scroll my inbox and see the FROM and SUBJECT without opening them like: [email protected] - Error C drive low on Servername. then the body had the details.
On ATT is says 1010100002 - FRM:[email protected]
I have to open the message to see if it is an error or a good.
Many pages are temporary errors, I may get 3 errors then a good while a job runs.. If it doesn’t report good in a few mins, I need to look at it.

Can't send texts to SMS Short Codes on AOSP Jelly Bean ROM

I'm using the crespoa i9020a package for my phone from the Google site, and for some reason I cannot send any texts to short codes, however I can receive them. Breakdown of what happens when I try to text a shortcode:
I text "51401" to 33333 (local transit authority bus information number, 51401 is a stop number)
SMS Application says "sending" briefly, then says "Could not send message", asks me to review and attempt to send again. Trying again does not work.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've even tried alternate SMS programs to make sure it's not just the stock one having issues. Any suggestions? Carrier is Rogers.

[Q] Custom notification for emails received via SMS

USCC Galaxy S3 4.1.2 stock
I receive SMS alerts from an email server for work. I would like to differentiate those from my other SMS messages but I cannot get the custom notifications to work when the sender is an email address. I did test and it works as expected when the sender is a mobile number.
I found another person having the same issue and they were able to enter the email address in the mobile number field to get custom notifications to work properly but that does not work for me. The other post was over a year ago so things may have changed.
Anyone have any ideas?

Sent SMS sync issue

Hi, just bought a new ATT S7, running 6.01.
For years, i have run SMS Backup + to sync texts to my gmail account. Love it.
On my new S7, this app does not recognize/sync SMS texts sent from the phone. If i use Google now to dictate "send message to xxx saying yyy" ...that text composed that way gets sync'd. But one that is typed or dictated in the messaging app does NOT.
Sent SMS texts are NOT sync'd either using Exchange activesync. Recvd texts sync fine.
I also use MightyText and sent texts from the phone do not show up in the app. If i send a text from the MightyText web app, it usually will sync via SMS Backup +.
I have reached out to both vendors for assistance.
i have changed my keyboard from Samsung kybd to Google keyboard. no luck.
Anyone seeing anything like this?
I turned off "Advanced Messaging" and it seems to take longer to Send the SMS from the phone, and the message will intermittently sync with the various apps (Sms backup +, MightyText.) But not always.
make sure your apn info is correct for SMS / MMS

Click to collapse
Keeping ADV messaging disabled seems to do the trick.

How to block an SMS which has no number?

SMS Spam and text messages with trojans and viruses has gotten so bad that I have had to block all SMS except those in my contact list. I use 'Should I Answer' for the SMS blocking.
I get SMS text alerts from several banks with no problem (they normally have a 6 digit number). But one bank has no number and is only identified by what appears to be an email address.
Unfortunately a Contact list does not allow an alphabetical input in the phone number field of the contact list. I question how they can even send an SMS message without a number. I've tried asking the bank for help but they seem clueless about this.
Is there a way to determine what number is being used to send these alerts? I found a number they claim on their website is used for SMS but when entering it in the contact list it is still blocked. I can't get any alerts from that bank due to their use of an email address in place of a number. Any suggestions?
