I had a few questions about APK's and Beta Testing. I tried searching through google itself but i wasn't getting any luck, so I decided to bring it to the forum. Any ideas/thoughts/experience would be cool.
APK:
If I download an APK off the internet unofficially and not through the play store, will I still get an update when the official version is released? If not, what are some suggestions?
Beta Testing:
Very similar to my other question, after becoming a "beta tester" for certain apps, in this case nova launcher prime, will I still get an update when the official version comes out? Will I have to stop being a beta tester in order to download the stable most recent version?
The first question sounds a lot like a discussion on software pay.
The second would depend on the app developer, but normally you would have to uninstall the beta version.

So.. besides checking websites and such, there would be no way to be asked to update to the "published and official" version of the app?

Yep, only the google play store provides this functionality.
Now if your wrote an app to do this by checking version numbers and using a url that contains the apk and whenever it is updated would be sweet!

Hello,
I have a question about apps not downloaded or purchased directly from the market. I sometimes use Getjar to get some apps for my Skyrocket and the Market does not see these as purchased. However, when I link the app to the market using root tools, it does come up as an update is available. However, I can't update from Market because it tells me I did not purchase the app.
Is there a way to do this? If not, how to I keep the app updated?
Thanks,
You need to purchase it to update through the market. Otherwise you have to wait until someone uploads the latest .APK file to getjar.
I use getjar to test apps to see how much I like them. However, the updates on certain apps when they are released are important to me and I usually do not like waiting. So if I download an app from getjar and really like it I will then fork over the money in the Market so I can get the updates when they are released.
Getjar and Amazon

I would agree with this and will start doing this. Yes, I do like to download from here to test the apps to make sure I like them. I don't like to wait around for updates and I still can't get Getjar to identify ANY of my apps from them. Never had been able to update. I still get the stupid facebook link. I don't want a facebook account.
I also with NEVER buy an app from Amazon again. They take their sweet time to post an update. They state they "check" the updates for approval prior to being posted. That's crap. Will stick to market then. Thanks.
Alright. I'm trying to download Tapatalk from the Play Store. Every time I've tried to download it, it is giving me an error. First, it gave me an error, something like "Could not download Tapatalk Forum App" as you have not purchased it yet. Then I cleared the Play Store cache, data, uninstalled updates, and cleared everything again, and now it's giving me the error: "Download of Tapatalk Forum App declined".
Now, I have a good clue as to why it's doing this. I previously downloaded an older version of it from apktop and installed it on my phone and my nook. I'm not proud of it, and this is why I'm buying it now, I'm sick of the guilty conscious every time I use the app. But now that I do want to buy it, I can't! Any ideas anyone?
I'm not sure why you're having issues with the play store. If it eases your conscience though, Tapatalk is free through getjar. Here's the link:
http://www.getjar.com/mobile/237628...4ymld6hvifbqfomy&c=5v55005as52yb2m813&lang=en
I know it doesn't fund the developer directly, but I imagine they receive some compensation from getjar. Hope this helps.

Is this the latest version? As in the same as on the play store?
had a similar problem recently and the only solution i found - posts on the android newsgroups confirm that - is going back to the old 2.3.x market apk. to do so either "uninstall updates" in manage apps or if your /system/app/Vending.apk is 3.x then you'll have to replace that one with the 2.3.x one.
annoying, yes, but at least that works

To the best of my knowledge, all apps through getjar receive the same updates as the Play store. It should continue to be updated after installing.

That's how I got round this problem before as well.
Here's the older market I used.

How can I review an app as "A Google User"? I still see these with new dates in the reviews, but Google Play App is trying to force me to join Google Plus to post a review, which I want to have no part of.
I have rooted Sensation and would appreciate any advice on how to sidestep this new Google BS.
Thanks
Any ideas, anyone?
Just create a g+ account, you don't need to use it for anything else than reviewing!
I am still curious what people are doing to review as "A Google User"
Odp: Reviewing apps as A Google User?
That's simple. These guys use Market 2, and even after you have it connected to g+ on website or some newer version of google play, on the old one it shows as google user.

Somewhere over xda. But I can't guarantee it will work, as it is old version. Since it changed into Google Play, and updated to version 3.10, Market 2.3.6 may not support your device well, even on Gingerbread, not saing about ICS. I cant test it, because I don't have Sensation yet. You can browse und buy apps only, forget about books, movies...
Mayby it's better just not to review apps?
Its gonna look like this

I don't use the books, movies part of Google Play anyway. I only use it for apps. But once I install the old version, how do I keep it from updating into Google Play automatically? Is the one you linked to appropriate for a Sensation? And I do have ICS, but I don't think Google Plus was required to do reviews in the early days of my ICS installation.

That is how I want my reviews to look, so I can do them without Google Plus.
Edit: I went to the other thread to make the download and the only link there has gone bad. It only downloads iLivid junkware. No link to the market apk at the hosting service.
Anyone have the APK for the last version of google play app that don't force us to join google plus to write a review for an app?
Thanks
Certain apps of mine don't seem to be updating to the latest version or showing the update button in Google Play.
For example if an app received an update from the devs today and I want to update it, it doesn't allow me to.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!

maybe that version of the app isn't compatible with your android version?
I installed yalpstore and figured out that it offers me updates of some app which Google playstore does not offer.
Why is that?

The PlayStore does not offer every single app out there, maybe the apps you are asking about are apps that do not meet Google's requirements and standards.

Thank you.
I try to clarify what I meant. For instance : Yalpstore offers me Version 2.2 of a certain app. Installed on my phone is 2.1. When I go to Google playstore and open the description of the app, it confirms that the current app is 2.2 although it doesn't offer me an update.
This particular app got updated in January.
I've noticed that too. Gets me a little worried.
I like Yalp but my biggest problem with it is that when I mark an app 'ignore all updates' that option does not stick. Next time I check for updates updates are still offered including for apps marked 'ignore all updates.' Very annoying and dangerous.
