Latest app updates not showing in Play - General Questions and Answers

Certain apps of mine don't seem to be updating to the latest version or showing the update button in Google Play.
For example if an app received an update from the devs today and I want to update it, it doesn't allow me to.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!

maybe that version of the app isn't compatible with your android version?

Market as separate app

Hey people, I rebooted my phone this morning, and then opened up an app I use called "AppMonster" (previously "AppManager"), which shows me all my installed apps and allows me to uninstall them or backup, etc.
I sort the apps in date order, meaning at the top it shows me the latest app i downloaded or updated. At the top of the list today I saw the official android Market app, which I myself did not update, because it never showed up in this app list before, in the same way as GMail and other built-in android system apps. Now it's giving me an option to uninstall the market.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is this another silent update that happened in the same way as the UK Google Maps got updated by itself with navigation recently?
BTW this post isn't because I'm having an issue or anything, just wondering if anyone else has the same thing?
Regards
You could search for Market in /data/app/ directory. If there is com.android.vending.apk , then you are right - you have updated version of Market.

GM wasn't updated silently - that was misinformation spread by Engadget. But Market has its own updater, so it might be updated differently than other apps.

Google Apps is not getting updated.

Hi There
Just saw something interesting. I saw the post of the update to google maps on androidcentral. So I went to market and noticed that it did not update automatically. I had to click on update before it went and grab the update. This was also the case for the gmail app.
Should the apps that come with the android not also be part of the automatic updates ?
After updating the app with market I do get the option to flag for updates.
Cheers
Nar
the gapps are ONLY the market and maybe some other things; a lot of the other gapps are available on market.. they're not included with in the gapps package unless you download a version with it; only thing that auto updates is the market

[Q] APK and Beta Testing

I had a few questions about APK's and Beta Testing. I tried searching through google itself but i wasn't getting any luck, so I decided to bring it to the forum. Any ideas/thoughts/experience would be cool.
APK:
If I download an APK off the internet unofficially and not through the play store, will I still get an update when the official version is released? If not, what are some suggestions?
Beta Testing:
Very similar to my other question, after becoming a "beta tester" for certain apps, in this case nova launcher prime, will I still get an update when the official version comes out? Will I have to stop being a beta tester in order to download the stable most recent version?
The first question sounds a lot like a discussion on software pay.
The second would depend on the app developer, but normally you would have to uninstall the beta version.

So.. besides checking websites and such, there would be no way to be asked to update to the "published and official" version of the app?

Yep, only the google play store provides this functionality.
Now if your wrote an app to do this by checking version numbers and using a url that contains the apk and whenever it is updated would be sweet!

[Q] Sony Back Up and Restore

Just going through my apps and the Sony back up and restore app has automatically updated itself to 1.0.A.0.8 and it is not an official Sony update. Came from Play store. No way to disable or uninstall it. Beware.
It seems Sony is looking into this problem... Hope update from them soon! Click
Its a hack, it was compromised via PlayStore:
SonyMobile's PlayStore account might be compromised:

It would be really awesome if Sony just released an easy way to root/ unlock the bootloader to remove it. I doubt that will happen but this makes me really nervous especially since we are stuck with an app that has broad ranging permissions.
Sean
I got the same version number 1.0.A.0.8
Are there people with a different version?
I believe that is the correct version but if you click the links in this thread you'll see there is a rogue version out there that is updating itself and has permissions that you should be leary of.

Are the permissions of the fake version different from the original? What are the original permissions?
Maybe I should rephrase to state the permissions may be equal but exactly who has the permissions is the cause for concern.
I have set automatic updates in Google Play Store. How can I verify whether my phone updated the app with this one from Google Play Store or not?

In Play Store hit "my apps" and it will be listed under downloaded
Finally answer from Sony...

So it's okay I guess?

Apps Not Showing as Updateable

Just got a Z3 a couple of days ago and installed the generic UK firmware and all is good!
I have just come across an issue though where some apps dont seem to show as having an update available in the play store or whats new.
Basically, i wanted to move some photos from one folder to another and noticed i couldnt do it. A quick google suggests that the latest version of Album allows it, so i went into album on play store and it was there, the update button was available.
However this was not under the 'updates' section. Im now wondering if a number of my other apps have updates available without me knowing and i dont fancy going into each and every one to find out.
Am i missing something?

Thanks, but I ws able to update it through the play store
What im saying is, why was it not showing that an update was available? Am i missing something in the settings or something?
I dont want there to be other apps that have an update but i dont know about
Could be because of regional differences that you get an update a bit later than others. The fastest way of getting the latest updates is to check here... There's always someone that got the update before you that's willing to share it with us

Why is nobody reading the poor guy's question properly? The update WAS available, but only when he looked in the play store, not in the updates section.
If the app was restored by a backup program or installed or updated from a third party source, play store won't always put the app in the 'my apps' section, therefore, not showing it as updatable. Try reinstalling the app from the play store.

Thanks for clarifying this. I didn't know that that's what he meant.
