[Q]Change "OK Google" due to multiple phones - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to change the keyword "Ok Google" to another phrase? I have both a N4 and a N5 and don't need both going off every time I say "ok google".

No, but why would you be using both phones at the same time and with both just sitting on the launcher?

Multiple people = multiple phones in use at same time. While the scenario may be rare it's happened twice that both phones kicked off a request I made in same room and it annoys the other person using the device. Also the launcher isn't the only place the phrase works...it also works in Google Now which may be displaying information for the other person and they don't appreciate it bouncing off to a new search in the middle of them reading.

Okay, I guess it's possible. :silly:
But as far as I know, the hotword can't be changed.

You can try saying "I like noodles" it works I'm not even kidding.
Edit: Oh and here you go btw. This should help you in the future.

There's a video on YouTube showing the hot phrases for Google now in the nexus 5. The guy says the noodles thing and a bunch of other ones that work.

[Q] Google Wallet

Does anyone have their Google Wallet still working? Seems like a wide spread disabling of google wallet on vz occurred over the last two weeks.
Device is rooted, load a back door wallet apk, installed fine, grayed message "Not supported"
Using stock ROM, is that the problem??

I was hoping the guy I quoted would chime in, or the other folks who had successfully changed their build prop to sprint and just installed from the market.

These forums are just getting ridiculous the way people act. If you would have gave a little more detail about the problem then this wouldn't have happened. And you didn't have to come off like that to my response. The whole point of the forums are for people to help out and learn from each other otherwise if everyone was so smart there wouldn't be a need for them. Next time I suggest you just realize how your responding to someone before you just go off posting.

The last time I got this issue I didn't flash the correct order of zips from the wallet thread. Upon doing so everything was fixed. I know how to install wallet, I just didn't know if changing your build prop to Sprint made it any easier since they were talking about updating from the market no problem. That was my only question.

Google Smart Dialer from Nexus 5 on Moto X?

Has anyone been able to get the smart dialer from the Nexus 5 working on the Moto X? I have a Nexus 5 and and the smart search feature in the dialer was actually really nice to use. For those who don't realize what I am talking about- this is the feature in the dialer where you can search "AutoZone" within the dialer and it will pull up the 3 listings closest to you. Also when you call local businesses it displays their name and picture instead of just the phone number.
I'm trying to decide between the Moto X or the N5 and it is such a hard decision every little thing is factoring in. Thanks!
Edit:
Some people later in the thread have had success with this dialer apk in the download link below:
https://mega.co.nz/#!6F02QYrS!gDMx9P...vgZjA6XgLHAi68
Let me tell you from my own experience. I bought a nexus 5 moments after launch. Upon receiving it, I liked it but its really barley different from the nexus 4 (which I was coming from) other than kit Kat. Fast forward 3 weeks, I sold my nexus and bought a moto x. I'm much happier with this device. Its way more innovative than the nexus 5. Touchless control and active display are amazing. As far as hardware I notice no difference. The display is just as good but in a different way. And the camera may not be better but takes good pictures. Overall I'm 100% happy with my decision and will never look back.

Thanks for weighing in there. I actually think the Nexus 5 is an amazing phone. Each phone has pros and cons. The Smart Dialer being a pro of the Nexus 5 since I was actually using the feature. So back to my original question, anyone? anyone?
I'm guessing it is more than just installing the N5 dialer apk otherwise it would be readily available for install.

Feels more like you are searching for someone in your contact list vs. googling the number. Time wise it is probably the same if you are quick with google now. It is nice having the functionality in the dialer app vs switching over to google now if I am already in the dialer. The caller id feature is what I really like about it though. Say yesterday I called Autozone and then I need to call them again today, I can completely skip over opening google now and repeating the search process, just go straight to my history, see the name and location of the Autozone (especially helpful I I had called multiple locations) I called and click to call, no searching, no trying to remember what time of day I called them yesterday, what number it was, etc.

What if you call Autozone and they don't have the part and you need to call Carquest or napa. I can see how the smart dialing could be convenient.

Different is that u can search for business right from dialer and get results. Its like yellow pages built in in your dialer.

I could be wrong but I think we are missing an .odex file that is supposed to go with the GoogleDialer.apk into /system/priv-app. I could be wrong, but I swore I read that somewhere...just wish I could find/remember where.

With the new dialer it would be labeled in the history as AutoZone + location info, with the stock dialer all you see is the number, so if you have called many numbers that are not in your contacts then good luck remember which number was AutoZone in your history.
Anyhow I switched back to my Nexus 5 anyway as I decided I liked it better than the Moto X, so for me this thread is now a moot point.

No, it doesn't have the features like the Nexus 5, just the typical Kit Kat dialer. I'm downloading the Neux 5 system dump and going to play around.

There are some noise cancellations issues which we believe to be software related. We hope the issue is solved in the next update, but we can't say for sure.

Hello all, I am new to the Nexus 5. I bought mine two days ago. I was really impressed with it at first, but now I'm being told by everyone who I speak to on calls, I sound distant, fuzzy and my mic is crackling. Also, there's a few black dots on the screen. I have done some quick research and found lots and lots of information regarding this issue. However, what I really want to know is, considering this is annoying me like crazy, is it even worth returning it and getting another one? I seen a few posts on other sites and one user had returned 5 times and still had faults. I don't know if I can trust LG again. The problem is, I love this phone so much! :/ I have 30 days to return my phone because of these faults and can either get a refund or an exchange. I don't even think there are any alternatives in the £300 price range :/ I sold my iPhone 5C for this as well! :/

I have neither of the issues you've described. My Nexus 5 seems to be perfect minus a software glitch when making calls. If you are having issues then definitely replace it through warranty. No need to ask anyone for permission to do so.

That's certainly promising. I can't see how they'd be able to overlook such a big hardware flaw if it is hardware, so I guess software could be the problem.
We all have the microphone issue. It just depends how much we notice it. Dodgy noise cancellation algorithm. Just record a video with the tv in the background, you'd probably notice it

I'm definitely not pretending it doesn't exist. I guess I've never noticed the issue since I never used video recording on this phone. Also no one has told me anything about the call quality having static. If its a known issue that you can bear with then I'd say wait it out and see if the issue gets rectified with the next software update but then again black dots on the screen might be a bit annoying for me to view so I'd probably still do the replacement.

It is a well known issue and has easy fixes as well. Simply covering the secondary mic is one of them, check out the threads discussing this issue for more help.
Personally I haven't had anyone complain about my voice and they seem to hear me fine for the most part so I've not taken any action. You also mentioned you may have dead pixels and if so you might want to RMA because of that.
The vast majority of users don't come on to report "all is well here" and so when you read forums you get a concentration of people with issues, or some unlucky/overly picky RMAers.

Google Assistant Whoes

So, when I say ok google, I get the prompt with "How can I help" but I coulda swore she used to actually say it. Does anyone elses actually talk and ask "how can I help" rather than just the text showing up?
IF so, trying to figure out whats wrong here...
An update removed it. This way it is now is majorly streamlined compared to the 7.1 Assistant in October when I got the phone. It worked yah, but this is smooth now.
It doesn't cut me off mid sentence nearly as much.
I am pretty sure yours is working fine if it gives audio feedback with some answers. Just a beep to start seems normal for me currently.

I don't know. I mean, I'll try it out. But I've got too many assistants already with Alexa and Google.
Samsung makes great devices but I'd forgotten how ridiculous they've gotten with pushing their software. I wish I could root this and put plain Android on it. It's really the only negative I have with this phone.
Impatiently waiting. I honestly thought we would see it by now.
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
damn bixby button. Sick of accidentally waking it just to have to exit it. Pointless button. Don't see where bixby fits into an already busy landscape. Worse thing about this phone other than the idiotic place to locate a fingerprint sensor!
like going to a car dealership buying a new car ,the salesman tells you that it does not come with brakes at the moment ,it will have brakes but we don't know when !!,,,come on Samsung pull your finger out!
They already gave a time frame. Late spring.
That means from now until mid June.
Honestly, I'm perfectly fine with them taking however long they need to make sure that their software is where they'd like it to be. HOWEVER, if you are going to put a dedicated hardware button on a device as expensive as this which does not currently have a function, then your customer should have the ability, natively, to remap it's function as they please. I take offense to having a dummy button on a phone I've paid this much for.
I really don't care, I use Google anyway and have Bixby disabled. Use the Bixby button to launch the flashlight, some use it to launch Google Now but all you have to do is say it.
Just what the world didn't need: another voice assistant (that isn't even ready for prime time).

Care to elaborate? There doesn't seem to be anything missing from what I've seen.
Well it doesn't integrate with SmartThings or any other home automation system for one.
It will eventually but it doesn't today, and I use that functionality on Google Home literally a dozen times a day.

yes, just like that... only different.
I thought I read somewhere that Bixby Voice was catching S8/S8+ 's in S Korea on fire, so Samsung was thinking of rebranding it as a tool against Fattie Kim... S Koreans can speak a specific phrase into Voice then lob the phone over the DMZ. Who knows? May be useful as a more accurate missle warhead than what N Korea is littering up the China Sea with...
