Do we really need forum here? - Sony Xperia L

Guys wat is this...????for discussing official updates and stocks things do we really need a forum for us????
Wat crappy locks will this phone has and let we break those bricks first then will build all....
Things that developed for xperia L so far....
No proper Cwm recovery like other phones
No proper tweaked custom rom
No cm roms
No easy flushable mods
Only experts will use customization and if other tries will landup in bootloader or some error which is because of we didn't have basic things for customization properly...
Still people are fighting for official updates and scolding Sony...
Come on guys we really have to work hard to get things....
Please devs working on this try to get the basic things first because only experts can flash and install things now and that is the situation here...
We need proper Cwm recovery and nandroid backup, flash method first (should be simple like on other phones)
Guys this is my suggestion and I worked hard and got basic things to work properly for grand quattro and those guys are enjoying my roms and ports, tweaks etc which is lack here since so many months....so considering basic things first will improve the development of Xl otherwise we will stuck here itself...
So please discuss the flaws so far wat we have and how to get those...
This thread is for guys who really put their ideas forward for development on xperia L...thanks for reading this and dont just read this.
Sent from my C2104 using Tapatalk 2

Guys please don't make this thread to die and everybody should post their ideas here....and all words are important here and now for development of Xl....
Leave on begging for 4.3 updates and make it beautiful on wat we have...thus is wat every phone users are doing there and lacks here.

From what i read,we need proper kernel for CM.Now devs wait for sony to release 4.2 kernel sources and then they will port it to CAF base kernel. After that we will have CM and all the development will start, like porting miui and ubuntu touch.
Don't know what you mean for CWM and what expert things are needed to flash some .zip's,but I'm using vengeance kernel and all work correct. If you mean CWM for locket bootloader, then you need to know that they try to make it,but there is an bug in kernel and CWM is unusable for LB.

Is that custom recovery fully working like nandroid backup etc?
Is there any way that I can flash Cwm recovery easily after I unlock the bootloader...No this is wat we have to concentrate....people who are new to Sony will always brick their phones on flashing these due to complicate procedure...so first it should made easy for every one.

Don't know for nandroid backup (but I'm sure its working),will test it for you tonight and report.
Sony phones don't have stock recovery and we need to include it in kernel ramdisk(or for LB in system). So all the custom kernels got CWM recovery buildin. And on your question "Yes" after you unlock your phone you just need to download custom kernel that you like and flash it on your phone. Then when the phone start you only need to press volume down key and you will go to CWM(you know what to do after that ).
How i see you are new to sony,so i will tell you how to flash a custom kernel.
You got two ways:
Manual with fastboot
And Flashtool(recommended for new users)
First way you will need fastboot drivers(there are some .zip's that include only fastboot drivers other way is to install all the SDK)
On windows you will need to open command prompt and need to navigate to fastboot drivers, like "cd C:\fastboot".You will need to paste boot.img in the folder with the drivers (C:\fastboot).Then you only need to tipe in command prompt this "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and in 2-3 seconds flash will finish.
Second way with flashtool is simpler and for that i recommend it.
Download and install flashtool, then go to C:\Flashtool\Drivert and install drivers that you need(if you dont have them). After that just open flashtool, click on the "thunder" icon and chose "Fastboot mode".Then click on "Select kernel to flash" find your kernel and click "ok".After 2-3 seconds you will see the log that tells you flash was Successful.

I think that this is against the XDA rules...

At least research a little before you start posting such rants. We do not have the level of devs that can produce the stuff on their own(like S2's devs wrote drivers from scratch after Samsung denied to go open source with Exynos), I didn't expect anything when buying Xperia L, I've been in big communities like Galaxy S2, owned it for a year. And we bought Sony's phone, we have to be reliant on them to provide sources, 4.2.2's first build is just out, I don't think Sony will release kernel sources until they release a bug-free build, and the Devs who're up for CM wouldn't want to develop CM10 just to please you for a week or two then start CM10.1 when Sony releases kernel sources.
And it's not hard to unlock a bootloader and install Kernels. This is my first sony device, I know how easy it is in Samsungs, and Samsung attracts a lot of customers in India, more than Sony, so the development has to be more, you can't compare the development of two devices. This is just a pathetic thread. It just shows that you *expect* the devs here to work for said phone, let me tell you, this is a free society, it's upto devs whether they want to work or not.
We have forums because there were numerous requests in the new forum for device thread (Or whatever it is called). You bought the phone, that is it. It isn't the responsibility of the devs here to provide you with the goods you want to see.
And please, write in proper coherent English, it's flashing not flushing. Sony's all devices have locked bootloader, should've researched before buying.

Then why don't you develop something. Stop complaining and do something. It will make us and you happy.
Btw. we have fully working CWM and custom rom. Don't get what is your problem.

Complaining and whining about what your phone does or does not do is NOT WHAT XDA IS ABOUT.
Good advise has been given.

[Q] MIUI , what if ...

Hi guys
I would appreciate if someone [dev] can give me some answers on this ...
Now that we have full CWM , thanks to the devs [@gtg465x]
How about following instructions to flash lastest MIUI for Galaxy S I9000 , using the actual installation guide > http://j.mp/iZSjlh , and try this ROM on the Infuse
Is the Galaxy S I9000 the closest phone [specs] we can have to try this ?
Some step(s) in that guide to be replaced or skipped ?
Worth to try it?
Would it work ?
Would I brick the phone?
I if brick it , would I still be able to un-brick using ODIN [back to factory]
TIA

Would be very interested in this as well, but not enough to try bricking my phone .
I wouldn't try it.
Just because the partition layout of the original Galaxy S is the same as our device, it does not mean the kernel is compatible.
The current roms are all based on the stock kernel and do not change any of the core of how the device works. We still have TouchWiz built in and won't be changing that until we have custom kernel built and working on this device.
On the other hand, we can flash back to stock with Odin, so you won't completely fubar your phone if you try.

Your right about kernel compatibility , so 1st step not using speedmod kernel [used @ guide]
But I would like to know if the native MIUI kernel used @ the galaxy S is like a "modded kernel" they used to port that rom .. or if its a kind of "universal kernel" ?? . I dont know if Im making myself clear

If the partition layout changes, cannot promise Odin will fix it. Pit, boot.bin and sbl.bin pulled from a phone to flash will most likely cause a hard brick. We need a leaked one-click, or some very crazy testers willing to brick phones left and right to test that. I don't recommend it.

Not a problem. When a new phone comes out....here's what happens:
1. Root
2. SBF/ODIN
3. CWM recovery
4. Psuedo ROMs based on stock.
5. Source Code drops.
6. Custom kernels (w/CWM built in)
7. Ports for MIUI/CM7/Sense/etc.
In 3 weeks, the community as a whole has completely done steps 1-5. (Usually takes a couple of months).
Next big focus has to be custom kernels. I helped out with some of the initial stuff for CM7 on Captivate before I bought an Atrix, then the Infuse. I'm going to be doing alot of reading and trying to learn alot more about git. Then I will be able to look into kernels. Team Whiskey had some guys working on a kernel with CWM + VooDoo lagfix written up...but I havent heard anything in a few days. So....be patient, its coming! .

Very interesting info , thanks for sharing , didn't know the order of these steps to follow ..
We are closer then ! cool , cant wait to run MIUI @ Infuse
Like others said, we will need a custom kernel for MIUI. However, the Infuse is very similar to the original Galaxy S. I bet it would be really easy to port 2.2.1 Galaxy S ROMs. They would probably boot right up and work fine if you just remove the kernel from them and swap out a few files (ril, camera libs, key layouts).

Hey I have one theme in mind, can you give me the details of these files?
(Wait do themes even mess with these files?)
Key layouts I got...
Camera libs? where are those located?
ril? what is that and where?
Thanks much appreciated.

I'm used to HTC devices so I can't tell you the exact names of the ril and camera libs on a Samsung device without looking, but they will be in /system/lib. You may also have to swap a few files in /system/etc. Just takes research and then trial and error. I suggest grabbing a GS 2.2.1 ROM, removing the kernal (and modem if that's included) (will have to remove corresponding parts of updater-script as well), and then flashing. Adb logcat will help you to debug and fix issues from there.

Once we get kernel source and a working CM7 build for it, my team is able to port MIUI to it
Well... once we get a device that is
We have been looking for a new device to port MIUI to. If there is enough demand for the Infuse 4G we'll pick one up.
If you guys manage to get it ported we'll create a device forum for you and host your roms, etc. If you need porting help/advice, or just want to talk about MIUI, join our IRC channel #miui-us on Freenode (details in my signature) and look for someone with a + in front of their name (those are the developers).
Anyway, hope to see you guys running MIUI soon!
Now this is what im talking about. If you guys have stuff to test ill snag it up and try it. Cant write but I can install it and test for ya. Not really scared to brick it. Plus its insured. Anyway good luck cant wait for it!!!

Are there any good guides/articles to learning how to create custom roms and whatnot?
I'm a software developer and while I've never done anything related to kernals/operating systems normally I'm able to pick up stuff quick and I think learning about stuff like this for Android phones would be awesome. I just really have no idea where to start at.

Would you or one of the other devs be willing to post an intro guide or something in order to help get more developers here?
I know you guys are probably busy working on your roms as well as work/school/doing other things, but it probably wouldn't take too long to make a short intro to help us get started. That way we could hopefully get some more devs around here.
I've been reading others guides and posts about it and I could probably do at least a little work from the start based on what they say is involved in making a rom, but the biggest problem for me is not knowing how to get going. It seems like you need an android kitchen to do a lot of the work but all of the kitchens look like they are phone specific so I don't want to try using one if those on the infuse. Maybe they aren't, but info like that to help us get our feet wet would be extremely helpful.

[Q] Developers needed for ROM build feedback.

First thing I am sorry if I posted this information the wrong section but this is kinda Q&A
I need help Devs or anyone with a strong knowledge in building roms. Now I'm gonna be very clear I'm more then likely 75% noob when it comes to building roms but I am learning thru trial and error. And every First time dev has a learning curve.
What this thread for I built my first custom ROM and i need some feedback in regards to what the heck im doing wrong.I started using the android kitchen is xda INSTALL Cygwin was fine and all first time preps and tools I believe is all set.
v1
Now so far I have built a rom 3 different versions V1 install was fine all packages came up on got some FCs and freezing and root wouldnt allow access even though SU was present. but the phone was completely functional aside of that.
V2
This time I went in and made mods the android kitchen completely normal su, busy box, all the same however this time I made changes However i did make some BP mods(build prop) and almost every ROM in xda has such as speed tweaks response etc. This time I added a custom boot animation and audio.I also Added a few apks to data/app. This time after flash was done in got the custom boot logo and custom boot audio however I was stuck for 30 min at custom boot. So reset re flash cache fact reset system data cache format with dalvik still nogo.(in other words still a Nogo)
v3
Now this scenario android Kitchen had everything installed except for wipe ROm, Now this time i added the same apks a new custom boot animation/audio But this time i cut down on a few of the build Prop tweaks. and made a few change on the sounds folder and notification/alarms etc. Now i went back into cwm flash as normal- format system, data, cache wipe Fact Reset cache and dalvik again. install was completely fine. went in t reboot device I got the Boot animation/Sound took about 5 minutes then i got the soft keys now me thinking it was gonna go to the main screen it didnt it stayed at the boot animation for another 30min did a Battery reset. soon after comes a flicker onthe screen and then a paper weight phone... it wont boot light up i get nothin. now when i plug it in to get something thru PC I only get "qhsusb_dload" which i know means DEAD/ASTA LA BEASTA/Corpse. i know it requires Jtag to fix im cool with that.
what im trying to accomplish here is some good feedback to anyone who willing to help me learn from my mistakes or can atleast point me in a good directionand places to read etc.
I have channel logs of what mods i made to BP and i have actuall builds of this rom i tried to make. if there is anyone at willing to attempt to atleast have a look at the rom build NOT FLASH cuz i would hate for you to break your phone but atleast Look at what i change and see if there is something i shouldnt of done i would really appreciate it.
If you would like to look at the build and give me some constructive feedback please PM so far i have exhausted all my sources i would really like some feedback.
I WARN YOU DO NOT FLASH THESE ROM FILES DONT BREAK YOUR PHONE I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DO THIS
You guys can flame me all you want i just want to do more then just use your files i want to contribute
Thank you for all those who want to help

Some things about ROM flashing:
Below is some pretty basic stuff go through if you have no idea what a custom ROM is and why should you use a custom ROM
There are two kinds of ROMs available:
Stock ROM or Firmware:It is provided by the manufacturer and the version varies as per the policies of the company. These usually don't have many modifications or tweaks.
Custom ROMs:These are developed by a developer or hacker that enables the users to customize their interface, thereby improving the performance drastically. These are usually heavily modded and tweaked to improve UI and performance.
There are both advantages and disadvantages in using custom ROMs for Android devices. Before loading custom ROMs, you need to root your android device. Rooting will help you to change your privilege from “guest” to “super user”. When you buy the device, you will be having only guest privilege since you will not be able to access all the codes as the manufacturer locks it up. It is considered as a protective measure, but the tech savvy’s are disappointed by this action as they cannot use many potential features or update it.
Advantages of using custom ROMs
Updated versions: You can load the latest and available Android versions which can make your old phone look new.
Great number of feature filled custom ROMs: It will be a chaotic task for you to find the apt one as there are bunches of great custom ROMs available for different devices.
Personalization: There are a number of features that can be customized to suit your taste and working environment. For instance, Custom themes can bring a new look and feel to your device.
Improve performance: The custom ROMs allow its users to find out the unnecessary apps they have on their device and helps them to get rid of them, thus increases the speed of processing and improves battery life.
Better signal and quality: Custom ROMs help you to improve your base-band which in turn increases the signal and quality of your phone call.
Disadvantages of Using Custom ROMs
Warranty Void: This is one of the main reason why people hesitate to root their devices. The manufacturer will cancel the warranty if they find any attempts of rooting.
Bootloops/Bricks: If the rooting/flashing is not successfully done, the device may enter to an infinite loop of booting(called a soft brick) or worse may hard brick(become unusable).
Loss of all Data: When you install a new custom ROM, it will clean up your system and therefore you will loose all your installed apps and data.
Stability:Not all custom ROMs are fully stable and may cause different kind of problems.
By default you have Stock ROM and Stock Recovery installed in the phone.
You need a Custom Recovery to flash a custom ROM.
You don't have custom recovery installed by default in you phone.
You'll need to be Rooted to install Custom recovery or to Flash custom ROMs.
You can't flash Stock ROMs(or better put fxz) using custom recovery.Use RSD lite for that purpose.
Okay so you wanna get started?
The first step would be Rooting your phone.
GB and ICS Rooting
JB Leaks Rooting-Link 1 or JB Leaks Rooting-Link 2.
Done with the Rooting?
Good.
Now install a Custom Recovery to your phone.
There are only two custom recoveries available for Atrix 2
CM-Defy recovery or Bootstrapper recovery
BMM Recovery(Boot Menu Manager)
Both these recoveries can be installed by simply installing an apk.Yes it's that easy!!!
But there are some important points to be kept in mind if you're trying to switch the recoveries or if you want to multi boot different ROMs.
Just go through the respective threads for details.(They are hyperlinked just click on the names :silly

Very much the case indeed Devesh, it's kinda annoying to me as well. To add to your custom rom directory is Ravi's non-kexec Liquid Smooth: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42382802 for those who missed it.

If you had a custom recovery and can still access it, then you can either reflash the ROM you were on or just restore the backup that you (hopefully) made before attempting to overclock. If you didn't have a custom recovery installed then you'll need to flash the fxz that is for your phone's model. Refer to the second post of this thread for links if you don't know how to use RSD lite, or flash an fxz.

Well that's a different story then The solution to that is to retry reflashing your device's respective fxz again until it does so successfully. The fastboot failure seems to be a result of something going wrong during the fxz process with rsd lite or script you may have been using. Try again and see if it works.

I know what you mean lol, I'm primarily PC oriented and when I just got my phone, it was a whole new ballgame. As for your question, you first have to tell us what firmware region your A2 is; AT&T or otherwise. Then after that, you'll know which ics fxz to download and flash. If you can actually access your custom recovery- bmm or bootstrap- then you should be able to just flash another custom rom. Read OP post #2 for the link to the ics firmware thread, but post your phone model region or just post a screenshot of your 'About phone' in settings.

Yes you can do that but from your post history if I remember correctly you're a kexec reject right?
Won't boot for you coz it's still kexec. But yeah if you can boot just flash it with BMM after doing the wipes.

[Q] Problem with rooting Miro - what am I doing wrong?!

First lemme congratulate developers for their hard work and thank them for this site, it's really full of information of any kind regarding any software/hardware problems what-so-ever! Now enough with small talk and kissing the ass: guys I really need help!
As you can all see I'm noobiest of all noobs when it comes to Android so I'm asking for straight forward answer - what am I doing wrong?! Recently I bought Experia Miro and almost instantly realized there's much to learn but I've heard of that famous rooting and got to it like fly on the crap!
I checked almost every thread you guys have and used a simple method of SuperOneClick (step by step explained in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682) and soon afterwards downloaded SDK (with update packages and all), but it seems that every time I get stuck at step #5 at which point I get that famous "waiting for device" line and then nothing!
So pretty please, with sugar and cherry on top, tell me what am I doing wrong?
forget that! just download "unlockroot" free version software!
run it and click root!
DONE
EDIT : i got the link for ya!

Great app but my rooting status says that bootloader unlock is NOT allowed :crying:
You wanted to root right? That you can do with that software. About bootloader unlocking, you should use the search function.

Not sure where to start from (as I said, I'm more then amateur in Android operations) thus I need some serious help cuzz it seems that my phone drastically declined in performance since rooting....
Even more so, I'd like to know a bit more about some processor overclocking, it seems that 800MHz and 512MB RAM just won't do the trick
Further more it says that it's not allowed to unlock bootloader and as far as I can see from post made by Sony Experia officials (http: //unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions) I won't be able to flash any custom ROMs nor Kernels?
I think there might be some ways to unlock the bootloader with status no. I don't know how but you should search or ask some developer about that!
About overclocking, you need to install a custom kernel with overclock support, but there isn't any such stable kernel for Miro. Devs still working on it.
I would suggest you to stick with the lockee bootloaders custom roms if you want performance!
Currently im using the gamerz rom and the performance is GOOD!

search in google "unlockroot" and download the program unlockroot ... i tried it on my miro and it worked ... it's free & safe
I'm using gamerz rom too

Thx everyone for trying so hard to help me but great news is that Unlockroot was success, still searching for that ROM tho. So if u got any ideas where to find one that won't f'**k up with performance and is there any way to flash it onto device without unlocked bootloader
Did unlockroot recognize ur device?

It did and I successfully rooted my device (with SuperSU and everything) but it seems I can't unloock bootloader (thus can't flash any ROM into the device).
I tried with SE Bootloader Unlocking (ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613) but it's stuck at getting the unlock code (I'm not sure if it's even possibl to fastboot my device)...

[ALL DEVS (devs only) DISCUSSION] cwm, semi-official MIUI5 5, future of our phones.

Hello, let me go strictly to the topic.
I would like to provide semi-official MIUI5 for our Xperia J based on stock rom (and maybe for miro and tipo if there are any devs want to cooperate)
BUT
I need CWM for stock JB (the newest or the second build) to extract it from phone in zip form.
Honestly I have no idea how to make CWM working on JB so here is my request.
we need you,
___________________________________________________________________you
___________________________ and you
To work on CWM for JB.
I think we (devs, semi-devs) should cooperate to make good content for our devices. Please share your experience, abilities, skills.
If there is anyone who knows how to work or only start working on CWM/TWRP for JB, tell us.
Pls devs show some initiative......

I will trying to make cwm working on stock without editing kernel. Kernel must to work in stock kernel for locked bootloader anyway.
Sent from my ST26i using xda premium
We need to find the loophole in the jb rom like ics.
Do you know any guides or sites with informations how to port CWM?
Thanks for giving your interest

I have been trying myself. But all the tutorials are for unlocked bootloaders and a recovery partition which we don't have the luxury of.
Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333078
This is my tutorial..
Sorry but this is not that way we should have CWM.
Wee need CWM implemented into a stock rom, your way works but it doesn't allow us to use it as base for stock roms.
We need sth like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131727
or CWM in stock's kernel

Hi bro are you getting anywhere with CWM. im having trouble with my ubuntu so not been able to work on it. I have not heard anything from the dev from sp forums so looks like were all on our own.
What about TWRP?
Maybe someone can put it into a stock kernel?

Porting either CWM or TWRP and sliping the recovery image into a kernel is no problem Doom lord left it in this section for someone to compile if thats all you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200465&page=2 . Flashing it into the system with a locked bootloader is the major problem. My bootloader is unlockable so that is what i have been trying to do CWM for locked bootloader.
Sadly, I don't know how to use it. I have never been working on any kernel yet. I guess there are no guides for thise things
