[Q] Motorola Droid Maxx Stuck at Droid Logo on Boot - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a notification this morning on my Droid Maxx for the OTA update that just came out. I told it to install this afternoon. After doing so, my phone rebooted, showed the progress of the update, and then about half way through showed me a form of the Android logo that said "failed" underneath. Ever since that, I cannot get my phone to fully boot. I tried clearing the cache from the recovery mode menu but that had no effect. I also cannot get the phone to boot into safe mode. My phone was not rooted so I'm not exactly sure why there was an issue with the update. Just wandering if anybody has any suggestions on what to do at this point? Worst case scenario I'm assuming I can restore to factory defaults but I would really like to avoid that if possible. Thanks in advance for the help!

Sounds like you should be able to FXZ and retain data to stock then take the update again.

How do I perform FXZ?

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm pretty much a noob at this. Are there any good tutorials you would suggest that demonstrate how to do what you suggested? I found the following site: sbf.droid-developers. org/obake/list.php (had to put spaces in it in order to post it) I began downloading the second file in the list which I'm assuming is the correct one. I've gathered that you have to edit an XML file in package. But I'm not really sure what to edit and I'm not sure about how to get it to my phone. Do I use the Motorola Device Manager or the Android development tools?

You actually do not have to edit them you can use the xt1080 and copy them over. That's what I had thought also but you don't have to edit them.

If you are trying to not lose you user data, i would remove the line
<step operation="erase" partition="userdata" />
from the .xml file before you try to apply with RSD

You don't have to remove any lines if you are using what is already zipped up, once you run house of moto it gives you the option to keep data.

[Q] AAHK Problem! Cant start up the rooting menu(hack ace) please help.

I am trying to root my HTC Inspire 4G 2.3.5, i am on Windows Vista. Whenever i go to run the hack ace by Admin an error message like this pops up in the command prompt....
" file "sc" is missing or corrupt.
Your PC Windows ENV is damaged and should be repaired.
At least one default system file is missing, corrupt
or the Windows PC env has been otherwise compromised.
The Hack Kit quits before damage is done to your phone.
Retry with a different PC or try a 32-bit Ubuntu Linux LiveCD."
Is there something i can do or download to prevent this? or will i just have to use a different PC??

my phone is on debugging mode and the fast boot is off, and firmware is 2.3.5 and im aware that i must downgrade to 2.3.3 but i get that error message before i can even get the rooting menu in command prompt.
If you could uninstall all antivirus programs and disable all firewalls...then re-download the AAHK....that could be the problem....

Tethering App that works without root and bypasses the Network.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop ES File Explorer v3.0.2. Go to tools then to net manger then create a hotspot. Worked on my Skyrocket non rooted with AT&T. Used my tablet to confirm worked great.
Or you could side load FixFi. Used that before I even knew what ODIN was.

mrfeuss made a typo, the application was called FoxFi. The app was recently merged with PDANet+; both should be in the play store. If they aren't try googling both and going to their respective websites. They both host their APKs for free.
Edit: Here, I've gotten the links for you
FoxFi: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi
PDANet+:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pdanet
In my experience, PDANet+ gave me troubles, so I've stuck with FoxFi.
Hope that helped!
Foxfi- "this item isn't available on your carrier" ?
Edit: searched to find the solution. Get it from here if you have the same issue..

I used these apps and they do work. But only circumvent the carrier partially.
When I try to use a browser (Chrome) I get a message saying I have reached my tether limit and to upgrade to proceed. But apps like Taptu can still get data without a problem. So there is something the browser is sending that lets T-Mobile see it that Taptu is not.
Any ideas? I am specifically trying to circumvent my carrier's limit. I have unlimited data, but there is a hard limit of 500MB a month for tethering, and they will not let me go over that without setting up a separate $20/month thing for tethering.

[Q] Am I up a creek?

I have an HTC Inspire running Cyanogenmod 10.1. Woke up this morning and powered up the phone. Stuck at the boot logo. The volume buttons don't work. I'm pretty sure if I clear the Dalvic cache, I'll be ok. Is there any way to do this, or flash a ROM through USB? Or is there another way to get the phone into recovery mode without using the volume keys?
If your volume buttons aren't fully working, I'm almost absolutely sure you can't. Then again, use a nail to push the volume down as far as you can. See if that works because I've had to do that before

Pull out the darn battery. Leave out for a minute. Hold down power and volume down..let go of power button while keeping volume down pressed. Let go at boot logo. Try that. Or just try and use your adb. Sounds like using adb is your only option.

What he means is you can still send adb commands from the boot animation. Use that to get to recovery, and hopefully you have a touch recovery installed that doesn't require your volume buttons :fingers-crossed:

Turn off the device completely, then plug it to the pc and try typing adb reboot recovery or reboot bootloader (thou it is useless to use the bootloader if your volume rocker is not working)
Thanks all. I didn't have touch recovery, so I opened her up. Found out why the volume rocker didn't work. The circuit tape under the battery was ripped. Must have got caught on the battery somehow. Needless to say, the traces to the sim card were also torn. So she is dead!

Accidentally removed bluetooth.apk--bt won't work after restore

So I accidentally removed bluetooth.apk while debloating my phone with Titanium Backup. When I restored the backup, it will not work--not even to start bluetooth. It just crashes whenever I try to turn it on.
I removed a lot of other stuff too...all was supposed to be safe. Does bluetooth.apk depend on something else I have removed?
