Nexus 5 ultra slow usb (2 hours to transfer 5 Mbit) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've just received my N5 and it's working like a charm on my home PC, but it's a disaster on my laptop.
Just to list the root folder, it takes more than a minute.
I previously owned a N4.
I've tryed to reinstall / delete 50 times every possible drivers (with google drivers, lg drivers, etc.). No luck.
Anyone?
Thank you very much!

Just before I got my Nexus I tried to transfer data on to my Galaxy S2 via MTP just but like you it worked fine on my desktop pc but ridiculously slow on a friends laptop.
Maybe it's an android or driver issue? I don't know

Thanks for trying. I've just made a clean install of W7 of my VAIO Pro 13 and it's still the same. Incredibly low speed usb, 5 minutes only to list the folders

I installed these drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513339
Took all of about 30 minutes to transfer 19GB of music.

[Q] Hotspot/tether

Anyone having trouble using their hotspots? I just went from an ATRIX to a ATRIX 2 and now the laptop I have will not connect to the ATRIX 2 but it will connect to the original ATRIX? I have tried wifi tether the old wireless tether, apn settings and everything I can think of. It will connect to an XP laptop I have but I have to try 3 or 4 times. Any ideas?
Some people are having success while others like me can't seem to get it to work. There should be another post out there about it and how to fix it.
Trolled over to another post and changed disabled to 0 in SQLite for one item. Worked good
The fix using SQLite worked great for me. Very easy and quick

i have found that it depends on what you are connecting it to if it is a win 7 machine once i connected it i had no internet conection on my pc i had to tell win to troubleshoot the internet connection and it fixed itself it seemed my issue was in win 7 not in android as everything else connected fine but win 7 had to run troubleshooter

[Q] I have a question regarding my sdcard..

I've searched the forums and all I've found so far is sdcard issues with the evo.. so I apologize ahead of time if there's a thread for this...
I recently received a brand new sdcard.. 16gb class 4 sandisk.. I have formatted the card on both pc and phone(just to be sure everything is clear).. now when I transfer files from my pc to the phone, I only get between 1-3 mb/s.. I've recently reformatted/partitioned my pc, so it's on a clean install.. I've also recently wiped the phone and flashed a new rom.. but it doesn't really matter what rom I use, I still get those slow speeds.. I was at a friends yesterday and transferred files using their laptop and I was getting between 15-17 mb/s transfer speeds.. any ideas as to why I don't get the same on my pc? Thanks to all that may respond!
I used to get slow copy speeds with my Win 7 64bit PC, I don't remember the actual figures. I now use some copy software which seems to have improved speeds. I think it's called Ultracopy.

Gotcha... well, I'm on win 7 32bit and my friends laptop has windows vista 32bit...so I'm still kind of guessing as to why transfer speeds were much higher on their laptop than they are on my pc.. and I didn't do anything differently when using their laptop as I would my pc..
I think it's a Win 7 issue by the sounds of it, google for Windows 7 slow copy speeds and see what turns up.
BTW, there are SD speed test apps in the Market, give one a try to test your cards speed when in your phone.

Will do... Thanks UK
Maybe it's a driver issue?? Who knows at this point.. I just know that 1.2mb/s transfer speeds really suck
Just checked which software I use, it's actually TeraCopy (free version) .
http://www.codesector.com/teracopy.php
sometimes its something stupid when it comes to it, it could be not USB 2.0/3.0, could be USB data cable, and can be simply win 7 not caching the sdcard to make it read faster
I had random issue with my phone, if i use my toshiba to transfer i notice its slower than my 4 year old acer with crappy specs
but when i switch my data cable, then i see it fly on transfers

Try use a micro sdcard reader, if the problem still exist, it is either your PC or the card.
if the problem is fixed, it is either your phone or cable

[Q] Need Help with Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113

So... I got a Tab 2 10.1 last week from amazon after 3 days of use the Tablet died, no power, no signal, tried charging and all troubleshooting I found through the internet in the ended decided to send it back and got a replacement Tablet from Amazon.
Yesterday I got the new one and let it charge all night, this morning I got to set it up, everything was working great until I decided it was time for me to root it and transfer some music to it. When I connected it to my pc i got an error message saying "USB Device is not recognized" error message said something like the device had malfunctioned. Funny thing is that the tablet charges perfectly, although I do know that the pins it uses to charge and data transfer are not the same.
Having hopes in my tablet and my luck decided to check if it was for some reason in USB Debugging, it was not.
*Removed Kies, and all Samsung related drivers, rebooted and reinstalled the drivers alone, nothing.
*Unistalled the drivers rebooted and installed latest kies...nothing...
*Tried using a friends cable to see if that was the issue, nothing. *
Tried cleaning the port, nothing.
*Tried both cables, mine and my friend's, on a different computer and still nothing!.
So I have ran out of options and ideas and I'm really frustrated as I can't believe I've so much bad luck as to get 2 damaged tablets in a row.
Is there anymore troubleshooting I can do before I ask for a refund? I'd really appriciate any help that you guys can provide me.

Yes, I am. Does it have to do with that?
Samsung's drivers and ODIN don't play nice with win7 x64. It works for some but not others. Use someone else's 32-bit PC, or try Heimdall Suite.

I've never had a problem with win 7 x64 with my Tab 2 10.1. What I would recommend is use a different USB port or try several different USB ports.
If that doesn't work, you likely have a bad USB port on your tab. Samsung should honor their warranty and replace it.

[Q] PC Won't recognize my phone

Hello again! So I recently picked up a Galaxy S 4g for a good deal, and now for some reason, I can't connect it to my pc. I plug it in via usb, I've tried all the USB settings, and my pc won't recognize it at all. I've searched everywhere on the web, and on these forums, and still no dice. I found another similar thread from about a year ago, and nobody really gave a concrete answer there. I've tried in debug mode also. The phone charges when it is plugged in, but that is all. I installed the Kies Mini and the drivers on my work pc (Win7 x64) and it still won't recognize my phone. At home I'm running Win8 x64, and Kies Mini won't even download the drivers, it just sticks at 0%. If anyone has any ideas as to why it won't work, or options that I can try, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, it is not rooted. The point of this is to try to root it. I've rooted many other Android phones without issue. This one's being a tricky little bugger!
Thanks in advance.
You will need to install the drivers for your phone on the pc. Also check out your usb cable some give me problems

Had a similar problem on my win7 laptop. Decided to start over on my winXP pc and Kies mini worked to install drivers.
Well I've tried multiple USB cables, and both of the ones I have work with my Windows phone so im pretty sure those aren't the issue.
I will set up a PC with XP today then and see what happens. Will post with results. Thanks in advance!
I'm using windows 7 with no issues

I got it to work! Here's how:
I tried installing XP on a pc that I was setting up for my grandma, and still had the same problem. Having been working on this for a few days, I got frusturated, and brought it to my Dad to have him give it a go (he's done tons of rooting/unlocking on tons of phones, and he is in the 360 modding scene) and lo and behold, he got it. It was just the USB cables I was using I guess. He hooked it up with the cable from his Kindle Fire, and it worked instantly. Looks like I just need to pick up a new cable, because all 3 of mine are ****ty >.>
Thanks for the help guys!
Make sure MTP is checked under storage -> press menu -> USB Computer connection
EDIT: sorry i didnt see you had it solved

[Q] Nexus 5 Wifi ping/speed problems

For reasons unknown to me, as of about 2 hours ago, my nexus 5 has caused my internet ping to jump from 60 ms to ~2000 ms and the download speed to go from 3.00 Mbps to virtually nothing. I had this problem on my old phone (Samsung galaxy S II) once and a while when I would download a new app, but I haven't downloaded anything new for a couple days. Just all of a sudden, my internet took a crap.
I know it's my N5 because I turn off the wifi and everything goes back to normal on my laptop. I have also tried deleting a bunch of apps and nothing has done the trick.
Has anyone else had this problem or have any advice?

If you're on 5GHz, try 2.4. Also, make sure your router's firmware is up to date. I know, it sounds silly, but it worked for me.

The router only works on 2.4 and I've already checked for a firmware update.
I'm doing a factory reset on the phone right now. I hope that'll work
