Rooting Tab 2 10.1 on 4.2.2 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just updated my tab to the above and have to admit I am largely unimpressed therefore thought it might be a good time to root and try some custom Roms (as I had to when I had the same problem with my HTC ONE S).
Is it still done the same way as I would have on 4.2.1 (or whatever I was on)?
As for the update I don't mind it too much it's just the lag and the seemingly worse battery life, I suppose I would rather have the old tool bar and task bar too but hey Ho, at least the keyboard seems more responsive.

Same situation here! CD worked great. I was hoping the update would be enough but I should have known better. Just make sure drivers are good to go. I just updated my kies to be sure. Good luck on your end. I gotta get a ROM on here fast. Even my son laughs at the tabs speed!

Wrong place. OP needs to request a move to Q&A.
But yes rooting and/or installing custom ROMs is the same.

Outsider Dev Questions

My girlfriend just got an atrix 2 and I'm not familiar with att/new Motorola's. I have Verizon and am way more comfy with Samsung and HTC.
Is the boot loader locked or unlocked? I saw a post with a method but its not clear.
Next, what the best, and by best I mean most stable, rom? Lithium looks nice.
I already rooted her phone..so do I just slap on CWM and download lithium? Or is the boot loader unlocked and I need to do that first?
Can someone just point me in the right direction? Thank you!
Sent from my htc rezound™ using xda premium
Bootloader is locked. You have to install the bootstrap apk to get cwm. Victory rom is my personal favorite and it is a flashable zip. It has zero problems in my opinion. Battery life is good, no lag. I haven't really tested the other roms that are cwm backups because i just prefer flashable zips. So someone else will have to answer you for lithium.

Thank you so much. Yeah I saw the cwm backups and I thought it was the weirdest thing. Btw...I actually like the look of the atrix 2. Kinda makes me want to go get a razr.
Again..thanks. totally what I wanted to know.

If you decide on victory rom the link for the download in the op is down. You have to search a few pages for the mirror.

I was just noticing that. Lol. Hey is there a thread with safe removable apps? I see in the victory thread that its not debloated.

Here is a thread with a list of safe to remove/freeze apps:

I'm using Lithium ROM and so far I love it. I haven't had any problems with it, it's very stable, and it's very snappy and overall just a great ROM. I especially love the ICS theming it has.

I usually just delete the bloat with tbu. I can't stand freezing them because they at still there taking up space.
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
I'd go with Lithium or Blaze as far as ROMs go, with Lithium being my favorite so far.
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk
Lithium is great, very fast nice looking and stable. the whole supercharged line of roms was good, but is dead for now. v6 is supposed to be out in a few weeks and judging by the devs working on it, it should be fantastic. cwm backups are fine, and common for our phone, just always wipe data and dalvik cache before installing

Confused

Thinking about picking up the sgs3 tom but I was just wondering what the difference between the original dev thread and the other thread. Also what does d2vzw mean. Sorry if someone already asked this ? But I couldnt find it.

D2vzw is the 'name' given to our variant if the s3 to identify it to apps.
Dunno what you mean by your other question.
O ok I was just thinking maybe Verizon put a updated version out cause of the bootloader getting figured out or something. So If I buy a new one I won't be limited on flashing anything right?

From my understanding (and it's very likely that I'm wrong) the idea between the 2 different dev forums is that the regular development forums is for TouchWiz (in this case) based roms and the original development is for aosp roms. However there are aosp roms in the regular forums so you got me!

I think it's more like OG Android Development are those built from source vs. those that are built off of a base which would be the Android Development section.
The difference in the forum is pretty much official vs unofficial. I.e. original would have the actual CM/AOSP/AOKP/MIUI roms and the other forum would have unoffical roms based on those.

No one, really?

At least one decent soul could have replied whether options detaching spen was still working for them after 4.1.2 update. A simple "Yes it works, you have a problem", or "no it is a common problem" would have suffice. Is it that difficult to reply to an Android friend?
It works.
Yes it works, you have a problem, and no, it is NOT a common problem.

Mine is rooted & bone stock. Your problem is not indicative of bad firmware. It is just a fluke, sucks to be you(j/k), maybe
All you most likely had to do was a factory reset. Custom roms are fine, but I actually like how this stock firmware runs.

Don't. S2 and S2+ are not the same.
You can try the discontinued Cyan by skullface here (which works on my 9105 although said to be only for the P version) or just wait patiently.

I used it for a few days only and yes, network works. Only no vibration. One user wrote if you have your PIN activated, it messes up your network connection.

One more thing.. and good reason why I should flash skullface rom over stock rom?
Sent from my GT-I9105 using xda app-developers app
@fayez107
Yeah, my phone is the non-P. Apparently, the phone ignores the nfc files or the nfc files are missing - the P users reported non-working nfc. (not sure which of the 2 reasons) so that's why skullface's port works for the non-P.
In theory, custom roms are made to enhance user experience, offering certain improvements like smoothness, better battery consumption, extra features, cosmetics, etc. But it's entirely up to you. You'd have to test them and see which works best for you. Some people prefer stock rom. This is all mostly what I gathered from searching and reading xda, I'm still new to Android too and still learning things. Plus there hasn't been many custom Roms to play with, at least not yet.
Edit: I think we should let this thread die off since the op's query has been answered and the topic has derailed. In case some newbie wanders in and gets the wrong idea from reading the last 2 or 3 posts and flashes a rom meant for the S2

Check out the nocturnal rom once you get rooted. It's themed and runs really smooth that and it's one of the only ones available. This is definitely not the most popular tab out there but it's pretty solid. I have no complaints and I'm used to the best of the best when it comes to Android phones. Plus it's another device to root and play around with. Sorry I don't have an odin, but I'm pretty sure there is one in the development section. Samsung devices are pretty easy to root, probably the easiest out there.
