Sprint galaxy tab 3 - Galaxy Tab 3 General

So I'm buying this tablet today. Can you gentlemen/ladies... help guide me with some resources to get rooted, w custom recovery, ROMS, themes etc. Much appreciated... Yes I've been looking, but I'm looking for guidance and wisdom from those of you who have been following this tablet... Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Is this thing still pretty active? Would just like to get a nice stable custom ROM set up...

Not really much, we have cm11 but without working cameras that's in general named some things for the ltet217s which is really about it. Theyres a custom touchwiz ROM from mijah that's really just themed and that's about it...

I cant even get odin without some other bs. You got a clean zip?

Check out the nocturnal rom once you get rooted. It's themed and runs really smooth that and it's one of the only ones available. This is definitely not the most popular tab out there but it's pretty solid. I have no complaints and I'm used to the best of the best when it comes to Android phones. Plus it's another device to root and play around with. Sorry I don't have an odin, but I'm pretty sure there is one in the development section. Samsung devices are pretty easy to root, probably the easiest out there.

I'd say use the Faux kernel with Sky Ice Cream
It gives me the best battery life... about 2 days with moderate use.
And NEVER use ROM Manager. It's BAD. VERY BAD!

Outsider Dev Questions

My girlfriend just got an atrix 2 and I'm not familiar with att/new Motorola's. I have Verizon and am way more comfy with Samsung and HTC.
Is the boot loader locked or unlocked? I saw a post with a method but its not clear.
Next, what the best, and by best I mean most stable, rom? Lithium looks nice.
I already rooted her phone..so do I just slap on CWM and download lithium? Or is the boot loader unlocked and I need to do that first?
Can someone just point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Bootloader is locked. You have to install the bootstrap apk to get cwm. Victory rom is my personal favorite and it is a flashable zip. It has zero problems in my opinion. Battery life is good, no lag. I haven't really tested the other roms that are cwm backups because i just prefer flashable zips. So someone else will have to answer you for lithium.

Thank you so much. Yeah I saw the cwm backups and I thought it was the weirdest thing. Btw...I actually like the look of the atrix 2. Kinda makes me want to go get a razr.
Again..thanks. totally what I wanted to know.

If you decide on victory rom the link for the download in the op is down. You have to search a few pages for the mirror.

I was just noticing that. Lol. Hey is there a thread with safe removable apps? I see in the victory thread that its not debloated.

Here is a thread with a list of safe to remove/freeze apps:

I'm using Lithium ROM and so far I love it. I haven't had any problems with it, it's very stable, and it's very snappy and overall just a great ROM. I especially love the ICS theming it has.

I usually just delete the bloat with tbu. I can't stand freezing them because they at still there taking up space.
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
I'd go with Lithium or Blaze as far as ROMs go, with Lithium being my favorite so far.

Lithium is great, very fast nice looking and stable. the whole supercharged line of roms was good, but is dead for now. v6 is supposed to be out in a few weeks and judging by the devs working on it, it should be fantastic. cwm backups are fine, and common for our phone, just always wipe data and dalvik cache before installing

Welcome to my world. It is a shame because I am betting a vanilla AOSP rom would run great on this tablet compared to the TouchWiz rom which is fine until I use it after using my Galaxy Note 2 and then it feels a bit sluggish.
I assume that the problem is the modem. I am not sure if flashing a ROM for one of the wifi models will boot. I am scared to try.

Just wondering if there is any change. Or maybe someone that is working on a rom for this. Thanks
You are lucky. At least you have JB. I have the ATT I497 and it still has ICS. Been trying to find out if I could at least install your ROM on my tablet but no one ever answers. Development is dead for these 2 versions.

Modaco switch. Run stock Google rom

Hey everyone!
What is the consensus on something like this?
It is called MoDaCo.SWITCH and it allows touch wiz to be run with the ability to boot with a stock android rom.
I can't post a link due to xda forum rules because I am a new user, but just search modaco switch for Samsung Galaxy s4.
Thanks fellas
Edit: also BGR is where I found the article and apparently this developer created this app from an indiegogo campaign if I heard correctly in his video.

Yeah I am trying to get it ran on mine issue is that its an international and doesn't come with the Loki kernel and Loki patch doesn't work but you can flash your own kernel. I had backed it on indiegogo and I have it ATM. Trying to figure out how to install a different rom as well. But its only in beta and unless you donated you can't get it until official release.

Yeah i just realized this is for a different version of the Galaxy s4. My bad everyone. I thought it was for the s4 in general

Rooting Tab 2 10.1 on 4.2.2

I have just updated my tab to the above and have to admit I am largely unimpressed therefore thought it might be a good time to root and try some custom Roms (as I had to when I had the same problem with my HTC ONE S).
Is it still done the same way as I would have on 4.2.1 (or whatever I was on)?
As for the update I don't mind it too much it's just the lag and the seemingly worse battery life, I suppose I would rather have the old tool bar and task bar too but hey Ho, at least the keyboard seems more responsive.

Same situation here! CD worked great. I was hoping the update would be enough but I should have known better. Just make sure drivers are good to go. I just updated my kies to be sure. Good luck on your end. I gotta get a ROM on here fast. Even my son laughs at the tabs speed!

Wrong place. OP needs to request a move to Q&A.
But yes rooting and/or installing custom ROMs is the same.
