For anyone who has opened up their phone, how hard was it with the proper tools? Down the line if I scratch up the back I would like to be able to replace it. The ifixit review notes that there's a little adhesive near the bottom. I have two concerns:
Is it possible to pry apart without marring the chassis of the phone?
Will the phone be creaky once the bottom adhesive has been breached?
If anyone's opened their device please let me know!

This morning, when I got out of bed, the top of the phone fell straight down and now the top part of the screen is cracked. I'm now stuck on EDGE and can't connect to 4g. Is there something that could've possibly broke that affected the reception?

Not sure, maybe you damaged the radio?

Did you solve your problem yet?
Under the bottom back cover where the speaker is, there are metal contacts that bend easily. You need a special tool to pry the cover off, there are copper contacts on the phone that make contact with gold colored foil that is the antenna for the radio. You can bend the copper contacts out some and reinstall the cover. You can remove the top cover without tools to see what they look like.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
I just ordered a new screen to replace my cracked one. But everywhere they advice to by adhesive tape. I have search all the web and I have found multiples videos and guides in how to replace the screen, but nowhere they mentioned what is the adhesive tape for. Can anybody point htis out for me?
To secure the screen to the rest of the phone. You need it, double sided tape.

How much did you pay for the screen? I want to repair my old Inspire. Also, was that with the digitizer?

If you replace the screen make sure you have a heat gun, adhesive. And heat up the old one to release the cracked screen. I just replaced mine and if you can't salvage the adhesive or get some more(not 2sided tape! You need the right stuff. Black industrial adhesive, rsdioshack should have it) I didn't think it was that big of a deal and learned the hard way.
1. Heat up the sides of the front. That's where HTC concreted the screen on. Greez stay patient, the digitizer is really on good.
2. Be careful not to tear the main ribbon under the battery. I did, its on good too.
3. Volume ribbon on the side. When you go to remove the casing make sure to get it out the way or its ripped off.
I've learned from my screw ups but now I'm a subject matter expert.
Not trying to be a know it all but I wish someone would have given me a heads up on certain issues with this phone. It's put together very good. I only buy HTC for this reason. Sucks when you have to take it apart though. Ha! Oh and get the tool kit, most screens for sale on eBay come with em free. Let me know if you have any concerns I can surely guide you in the right direction. Get the adhesive!

Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like it basically split in half? Damn. That sucks. I was thinking about how that could happen earlier today.
Unfortunately I took a look for a few minutes for a replacement part, but it isn't part of the back cover, nor is it part of the actual camera assembly and I cannot seem to find it on its own.

When you take off the back plate and remove 7 Screws for the top half a camera lens assembly comes off heres the replacement

Refer to Youtube in the disassemble of nexus 5 and follow that but stop when they reach that part
Also the Back camera glass cover isn't gorilla glass or any sapphire glass like what Apple used its just a regular piece of glass (Source LG)
Yeah, I looked it up online, but it's a 30 dollar part. I was afraid of might be visible on pictures taken with the phone, but surprisingly it isn't.
I might just now buy a case, since I am getting pretty tired of the low durability of this phone. I never even dropped it but if I did I could imagine that it would just shatter into a thousand pieces

Fwiw, mine has the exact same crack!
Phone never dropped!
If you decide to fix it yourself and are successful, please take pictures along the way to help others with the issue and possibly make a guide. Or add to one if there is one already.

Get this
From my mobile telephony device.
Had the same problem, lens full crack
Went back to mediamarkt.
They charge €100 for repair
So went for some part on ebay.
I only bought the lens + case. Not the full frame.
Did the repair. No pics
But broke one clip of the back cover...
Then I found the lens case was constructed to the frame by some plastic rots that were melted. Had to mill those away. And used glue to replace the case.
It worked out wel. But next time I would go for the complete frame
What's the best route to go about fixing this?
I can take pictures, but light gets refracted oddly from the cracks, I'd assume.
Anyway, how do I replace the outer glass, or fix the problem?
Thanks
It's easy enough to replace
From my mobile telephony device.
Get a replacement off eBay. Here's a pic..
Just unclip the phone back. Unscrew the old cover. Camera is not part of it. Takes 10min

This is good advice.
I had to do this a couple of months ago and that's exactly what I did.
It's super easy to swap out... I used a credit card to pry open the back and a small Phillips screwdriver for the six screws on the cover.

I just ordered a part with frame and I am wondering if anyone have replaced and would like to share the experience in doing so. Any suggestions or tips before I start installing the part my self.
I found couple of good videos on YouTube how to install this part.
I really would like to use N5 and have a pure stock experience.

I just replaced my Nesux 5 screen yesterday, following this instruction. The youtube is 30 minutes long and it took me 3 hours to finish the job.
One thing to keep in mind, you need a very good screw driver. One of the screws of the CPU board has metal sockets (instead of just plastic like the other screws), the top middle screw. My cheap screw driver comes with the screen+frame module stripped the screw head, so that screw is stcuk in the socket and can't be taken out. At the end, I used a x-acto knife cut out the plastic around the screw to remove the CPU board cover.
You also may want to get a replacement battery. It's easy to damage the battery when you take it out. (My battery is dying, so I have to change it anyways)
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I ordered the LCD digitizer with the frame on eBay. It'd coming with some tool kit. So not sure if it has necessary screw driver you are suggesting.

Never completely stripped it down but I hear it's easy enough. I was able to take the PCB, Battery out with ease.
https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Nexus_5
However be careful with the cables that run down the side of the phone (both sides) they are weak, so remove them at the socket instead of yanking the cable off http://cdn.makeuseof.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/wifi-cable-and-blue-tape.jpg?410b2a those little buggers, make sure you don't get them trapped either.
Battery is easy, don't use a screwdriver to pull off the tab at the top, otherwise it'll spark. Use something made of plastic.
Thank You. Hopefully I can get my N5 back to normal.
