This morning, when I got out of bed, the top of the phone fell straight down and now the top part of the screen is cracked. I'm now stuck on EDGE and can't connect to 4g. Is there something that could've possibly broke that affected the reception?

Not sure, maybe you damaged the radio?

Did you solve your problem yet?
Under the bottom back cover where the speaker is, there are metal contacts that bend easily. You need a special tool to pry the cover off, there are copper contacts on the phone that make contact with gold colored foil that is the antenna for the radio. You can bend the copper contacts out some and reinstall the cover. You can remove the top cover without tools to see what they look like.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

After taking apart the GPS antenna module(led flash cover), cleaning the antenna contacts on the cover and spring clips on phone, and SLIGHTLY bending the spring clips out for improved contact with the cover the GPS lock was back to being less than 10 seconds for initial fix and instant refix.
With such an improvement I decided to do the same procedure to the other 2. The antenna under the battery cover(clean and bend spring contacts out alittle), and the one under the sim/sd card cover(clean and bend spring contacts out a little). My WiFi signal is definitely much better at distance! Bluetooth is better as well!
It is not difficult to do at all, and the results are immediate and VERY noticeable.
Search YouTube for desire hd/inspire 4g GPS antenna cover removal so you don't f it up. Hardest thing is getting GPS cover off, and it takes all of 5-10 minutes!
Good luck all.

Thanks. This actually increased the speed of my stock inspire and battery life.

GPS FIXED!
I wanted to bump this thread, as I ended up finding this solution on another forum. I have almost always had issues getting my GPS to lock. I tried all the software based fixes, but none of them seemed to really work. I opened my antennae, cleaned/bent the pins, and now I get INSTANT GPS lock (without any software fixes installed). I strongly urge anyone with issues to try this.
Another alternative is to solder a new antennae:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318892
yes it is a good thing to clean the contacts and rebend them for additional contact force. That ghetto wire solder job that the person did in your link is only a hair above trying to get a gps signal while hopping on one foot. There is quite a bit of calculations that have to be done to choose antenna length and thickness in respect to the frequency it operates on. What this user did was just pick a random length of wire and connect it, and poorly soldered at that (they probably have a coat hanger coming out of their tv). This type of modification is a TERRIBLE idea and should be avoided at all costs.
But as I said, what the OP did in this thread with the cleaning, this is a good idea.
what did u clean it with?
Im looking at the silver led cover and im like how the hell you take that off I know like something needle nose pliers.
I basically just scraped the metal until it was shiny. A fine steel wool would work, or even sand paper. You just want to get any gray stuff off.

You do it from the inside .
Summary: You are going to remove the battery and then It should reach back to where the plastic cover is. From there you can push (from the inside) the plastic peach and then slide something under it to keep it propped open.
1) Remove your battery
2) You need to prop the plastic piece up from the inside of the case. You could bend the tip of a knife, or whatever.
3) You slide the "prop" inside the battery slot and you want to line it up under the plastic piece around the light.
4) From there you can "push" it up and slide something under the edge to keep it lifted (I used guitar pics). You probably want to use a couple to work your way around.
5) Remove it from the battery facing side first.
Once you have it off it should be obvious where the metal pins are. Bend them upwards, and scrape/clean them off if there is any discoloration.
Putting it back together is a little tricky. Be careful to not break any of the snaps .
Thank me if this helps!
Well I didn't do it but still thank you for posting that info

Was replacing the outsize bezel while meant I had to remove the touch screen and LCD screen altogether. I accidentally tore the strip that goes from the top of the mother board to the, I believe digitizer, it controls the touch buttons along with the overall screen. I have full brightness, volume and power buttons all work.
But like I said, it goes from the motherboard to the front screen, NOT the LCD to motherboard strip.
Any help would be appreciated.
Goodluck trying to repair that. Better off just getting a new digitizer

In my experience, there is no coming back from that one. I'm gonna say you'll need a new one.

I disconnected all of the little connectors, so I thought. This ribbon didn't seem to have a removable connection, or am I wrong on that?
It has a section that lays down on the metal frame. It has some double sticky tape that keeps it layed down.the section I am talking about has a small chip and cuircitry on it with two holes in the ribbon caddy corner from each other that keep it lined up with two pegs molded into the metal frame. You will see it under the mother board whitch the very end connector conects to on the leftside looking at it. Once the mother board is off. You have to ease the curcit part stuck to the metal frame off. I use a small knife taking the sharp edge to sneek under and lift a little at a time to get it loose then you can get it apart.

I saw pictures of the digitizer ribbon but didn't see how it connected but I think I got it now. I found some on ebay in the US for like $25, one that I saw for $39 showed a the digitizer already glued to the bezel portion...when I bought a set a few weeks ago, it came with the back battery cover, HDMI and audio jack smaller back cover, and the outsize bezel which has the layout of the digitizer (four holes at the bottom for the capacitive buttons).
The adhesive tape **** they gave me was horrible, it was way too flimsy and I couldn't even really use it.
I currently have 2 of the battery covers for the sensation, one black/grey and the other brushed aluminum/white (XE). I would love to have the black uppers and lowers with the brushed aluminum surround (with red speaker grille), so I thought that it would be an easy thing to take the things apart and swap out the pieces. I assume there is some sort of glue involved, but looking at the mounting clips on the underside of the covers I cant visualize how to get them off. If anyone can help out with how to get these things apart (without breaking them of course) it would be greatly appreciated.
If I'm not mistaken, you want to change the red speaker grille from XE back cover to your cover?
Using a hair dryer about 2 3 minutes to the red speaker grille. Using tweezers to pull down the red speaker grille
No, I want to swap the entire back plastic pieces. I need to remove them from the metal surround. The parts that house the antenna contact points

I made some pictures while disassembling my battery cover. Here is the link to my picasa web album. So you can easily swap the antenna modules, or personalize the whole cover
To assemble it again you need some power glue. But you have to know, that HTC uses some brutal strong glue. You should remove the antenna modules very slowly and carefully, because you can damage them.

Sorry, I don't really know. I've got it with a digitizer what i had to replace. Search for "phone disassembly tools" on ebay for such things

Hi, I have a HTC ONE S. I recently dropped the phone from waist high.
Ever since, the phone been having spotty connection.
My SIM card is fine because i tried it in another phone.
I called TMOBILE and it is not on their end.
I am sure its a hardware problem.
How would I find the internal GSM Antenna Cable to make sure its connected right? I saw a video on how to disassemble the phone but it does not show where the Antenna is.
Please help.

Pop off the bottom plastic cover and look at the metal terminals that connect the mainboard to the inside of the plastic cover which is essentially the antenna. Do the same with the top cover. Behide the top cover here's six terminals in total to, the left, right, and above the camera. I don't remember how many there are behind the bottom. Take a small screw driver or toothpick or tweezers etc and push the terminals outwards from underneath (gently) so that they stick out more. Then replace your covers and see if that helps.

THanks. Ill try that and update you. Im at work right now. Ill try when i get home.
My N5 just got dropped in a wet place (definitely wasn't the toilet!). I grabbed it real quick and switched it off.
I have taken the back panel off to dry it out (will leave for several days before I touch it again).
When prising off the back panel, I have damaged one of the contacts on what appears to be the speaker module.
Can anyone tell me what the metal strip in the attached is connected to? Is it the mic?
Thanks.
I have just discovered it's part of the antenna loop.
Any bright ideas of what I can repair it with?
And which antenna is it (it's the one with the black wire on the right hand side when viewed from the rear).

The little one is 2G/3G I think. The bigger one is 4G/LTE I think.
I'd really love to know to fix this too...a blob of solder? A strip of tin foil? No idea!
The metal strip on the outside of the speaker module has come away on mine too when removing the back cover...only a very small section because I noticed and tried to minimise damage.

It didn't make any difference to my signal when I had it like that.
For other reasons though, I replaced the speaker module. This was really easy and the part was really cheap. Probably the easiest way to repair it.
Thanks. That's really good to know re: no loss of signal.
I can confirm this too...I had no loss of signal either, even with a large part of the foil strip missing.
