I currently have 2 of the battery covers for the sensation, one black/grey and the other brushed aluminum/white (XE). I would love to have the black uppers and lowers with the brushed aluminum surround (with red speaker grille), so I thought that it would be an easy thing to take the things apart and swap out the pieces. I assume there is some sort of glue involved, but looking at the mounting clips on the underside of the covers I cant visualize how to get them off. If anyone can help out with how to get these things apart (without breaking them of course) it would be greatly appreciated.
If I'm not mistaken, you want to change the red speaker grille from XE back cover to your cover?
Using a hair dryer about 2 3 minutes to the red speaker grille. Using tweezers to pull down the red speaker grille
No, I want to swap the entire back plastic pieces. I need to remove them from the metal surround. The parts that house the antenna contact points

I made some pictures while disassembling my battery cover. Here is the link to my picasa web album. So you can easily swap the antenna modules, or personalize the whole cover
To assemble it again you need some power glue. But you have to know, that HTC uses some brutal strong glue. You should remove the antenna modules very slowly and carefully, because you can damage them.

Sorry, I don't really know. I've got it with a digitizer what i had to replace. Search for "phone disassembly tools" on ebay for such things

I had dust under my screen. Here's a easy solution.
Items needed: heat gun
razor blade
guitar pick/credit card
silicone/ or any other rubbery glue
3m tape
1. Heat outer edges of screen with heat gun, for about a minute.
2. Use razor blade, or something very thin to fit between digitizer and plastic frame of the phone. ( I suggest starting on the right hand side of the screen towards the top, as the connector is on the top left side for the digitizer, and there's a strip at the bottom for the buttons)
3. Once it has started separating, use the guitar pick, or credit card and work your way around the screen, going down the right hand side, bottom( careful of the little white strip for the buttons) and back up the left hand side.
4. When you've done that, you will be able to flip back the digitizer, DON'T TRY TO YANK IT OFF THE PHONE, it's still connected inside, JUST FLIP IT BACKWARDS.
5. Clean off all the crappy double sided tape from the factory.
6. Apply 4 SMALL squares of 3M double tape to the corners, cut them small enough, and place them on the corners, so they don't show up when you put the digitizer back on. You'll see how there's a certain amount of room to work with.
7. Apply with a toothpick, or something similiar, silicone, or your rubbery glue, to the raised edge of the frame, you know the one you just cleaned the factory tape from. ( LESS IS BETTER, if you use too much, when you press the digitizer back on, it will spread between the screen and digitizer, so you will have to remove it again, clean and start over.)
8.Then once you applied your glue, apply your digitizer back on, carefully pushing around the edges, not extra hard, just so it sits nice and flush like it did from the factory.
9. Wipe any excess glue that comes out around the edges.
Enjoy your dust free Sensation.
PS you can search youtube for sensation digitizer replacement, and use the part towards the end, for picture/video reference. YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE YOUR PHONE APART for this because you don't need to disconnect the digitizer, like I said just flip it back.
ALMOST FORGOT, GET THE THINNEST POSSIBLE 3M TAPE, OR DOUBLE SIDED TAPE, SO THE SCREEN WILL SIT FLUSH WITH THE FRAME AFTER INSTALLING.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q_KihDB4Og&feature=related - SKIP TO 4:30 for digitizer removal. IF NOT I'M ALLOWED TO POST LINKS TO YOUTUBE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I WILL REMOVE IT.
I wouldn't even consider this if your phone is still under warranty. This is a known problem and HTC readily admitted it for me. I got a new phone for free and it IS dust free for months now.
Matt
True, if I was under warranty I probably would've sent it in too but I got my phone from the US so I probably would've had to send it back there for replacement...but for those of us that don't have warranty and are rooted, flashed, and supercid, and don't want lose all that its a decent alternative in my opinion.

I'm in Romania at the moment, and they don't have stuff here that they have in the US. So I just used the thinnest double sided tape I could find here, generic brand, and universal black silicone.
Being in the US, I can tell you that the best tape would be 3M double sided FILM tape( it's very thin, business card like and will allow your digitizer to sit flush with the frame like stock) since you can get it there. And for the sealing part of it, either silicone(black) or a glue that will NOT harden completely when dry, that way if you need to ever remove the digitizer again you are able to do so.
As for my results, you can't tell anything was ever done to the phone!

Lol what? If you just got it then just get it replaced.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
I bought mine used, so I'm not even sure if it was still under warranty. And I'm in Romania right now and I got it from the US, so I don't know how that would've worked. I'm rooted, flashed, supercid, and all that good stuff, and the back cover is polished. I'm sure HTC would've had something to say about that. And then to sit without a phone for who knows how many weeks and the replacement to get dust too.. at least now I know it'll never have dust again.
lol, extreme to the limits !!!. i'll pass on the op "advice" and just call HTC if dust gets under my screen.......
well, too extreme for me...heat gun? Since my Sensation has 2-year warranty and HTC admits there is a problem, i will not take the risk (and void warranty)...but i guess somenone could use this fix...i guess...
Like I said, it's mostly for the few that are out of warranty, out of country, etc..
i advise no 1 to do this, seek a pro to do it, even if not under warranty
Yeah that sounds freaky and I'm used to reppairing small electronics and doing stupid things, but I wouldn't try this
Well, my Sensation isn't under warranty (I believe; was purchased via ebay), so I might have to perform this in the future when the dust build up becomes unbearable. Thanks for the tutorial OP.

guys there is no need to be scared, i've done it by myself and it works.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I did it and I've never done something like this before, it's not that difficult. I just had some problems with cleaning the tape that was on the screen before, but I managed somehow... Thanks again, OP, you save my senny and you saved me a lot of money by not having to take it to a pro to do it
Hi,
My digitizer glass recently broke and I've bought a replacement, something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOUCH-SCREEN-DIGITIZER-FOR-HTC-Desire-S-S510E-G12-tools-/220947545861
Which adhesive, if any, should I use in order to secure the new digitizer to its place?
Thanks
Have just ordered the same digitizer. Any important tricks I should know of before trying to change the thing?

Thanks, I'm familiar with that video. However, it only shows how to remove the digitizer, not how put it back...
I would think that if I melted that double-sided sticker glue, I'd have to replace it with, say, a new double-sided sticker (or some other adhesive) ?
Or do you mean I can just reuse the same sticker that's already there ?
Not how put it back??

Reuse the existing glue, then. Got it
Thanks !
I am none the wiser after watching the video
seems the video is suggesting you just use the original glue after heating it, i suppose it still has some sticky left, but when replacing a digitizer surely you need some glue. maybe two sided tape?
I removed the tape...
I removed the tape as part of the cleanup. If no one has any other suggestions I'm gonna try contact cement and just be super careful. If I remember to ill report back how that goes.

I don't think that will work. The whole point of using the correct double-sided tape is that it actually leaves a small gap between the digitiser and the LCD screen.
Maybe get some good double sided tape or sticky pads and cut it into strips as needed

I'm asking this because my GPS is frankly awful and I accidentally broke the GPS cover by melting it when solder was being put on the existing contacts.
Does anyone know where to get the Inspire 4G GPS covers? The Desire HD ones are nearly identical, but they lack the hole for the noise canceling microphone.
When the Inspire first came out there were issues with the covers and HTC was shipping them out for free. Do a search in the forum. Contact HTC and tell them your covers are trashed.
I have no experience with this supplier...

Those are different. The cover I'm looking for is where the LED flash is. You have to pop it out with a tool reaching into the battery compartment.
I bought a set of the 3 covers on the phone, hopefully the GPS cover is the right one and has the hole for a noise-cancelling mic.

I'm frankly not even sure if the Desire HD variant of the GPS cover is made in such a way that permits this to be done.
Just did some looking around and some experimentation. I think this is going to be the best course of action for an OEM-looking hole:
1. Find a paper clip that will cleanly go through the existing noise canceling hole. It shouldn't be too thin, but just about right.
2. Straighten out the paperclip so you get a nice straight section to work with.
3. Get a lighter or a gas stove and heat up the paper clip for a few seconds to get the straight section heated up enough to let you punch through the plastic without melting it completely.
4. There's a hole in the clear plastic where the LED flash connects to the black plastic, where the Inspire has a hole that goes cleanly through for it's noise canceling mic. Try to drive the paper clip wire clear through the hole, and make it straight. Hopefully there's enough heat for you to get a clean, smooth hole that looks like OEM.
I've taken a look at the dremel tools I have, and they are all definitely way too big for making a hole like this.
Hi All,
I've seen this question asked but haven't found a clear answer.
Could someone confirm whether or not the digitizer and the LCD are bonded together on the Sensation?
If so is it worth the risk to try and replace just a shattered screen and save some money or should I go ahead and buy a front assembly (digitizer+LCD) to be safe?
Thanks

So when the hereunder item's description specifies "pre-bonded" (under 'package' or in the page title) it's basically bulls***?

Right, so it seems indeed. Although those videos never show you the result after putting it all back together.
I guess the only remaining advantage to buying the "pre-bonded" unit is to avoid having to fiddle with trying to have zero fingerprints and/or dust particles between the two when reassembling...?

To buy the pre bonded just for the dust free digitalizer
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk 2
I've had a Sensation apart to replace just the LCD piece. It was a huge pain in the butt to get the glass off the LCD. They are glued together with some pretty strong glue.
It's possible that the advertisement you cited just means they are already glued together when they say "pre-bonded".
fixed lcd
bought on ebay and replaced my LCD myself 2days ago. The LCD is bonded more strongly to the shell and the digitizer ontop of it meaning you have to separate them any way to change as the digitizer will comes of its self. They even have separate cables to the main board. The glue isnt that stong, slow careful lifting it with the plastic tool kept things undamaged, so i didnt use a heat gun as too mch risk of oveheating the still good digitizer. I love my screen now , dead pixels smack in the middle were driving me nuts!! now just to fix my wifi issues....
Right so they ARE bonded!
Problem is, my digitizer is really badly shattered. So badly that a couple tiny fragments have come off when swiping the screen, leaving the LCD exposed. So if they're indeed "glued" together, won't I be taking a risk trying to remove all those glass fragments from the LCD in hope of reusing it (the LCD, that is)?

So what you are saying is that even if I buy a new front assembly (LCD + digitizer) I will have to separate them anyway to put it back together?? That seems odd...

I meant that digitizer is glued to the lcd but more lightly than LCD to body. Therefore when disassembling the digitizer comes of on its own as the glue is not strong enough to pull the LCD from body together with it. They are not bonded together as strong as samsung phones. Only bonded with not so strong glue along a small strip on the edge of digitizer; the area with black coat underneath. Taking a look at the older LCD, actually there is this sticky tape that maybe separating the two, the tape sticks to the LCD wraps it around and the tape glued to the body underneath with the digitizer on top of the tape. just carefully remove the digitizer parts, not as bonded together as you may think. if your carefull you wont need to replace both.
Bought the LCD on ebay.

My N5 just got dropped in a wet place (definitely wasn't the toilet!). I grabbed it real quick and switched it off.
I have taken the back panel off to dry it out (will leave for several days before I touch it again).
When prising off the back panel, I have damaged one of the contacts on what appears to be the speaker module.
Can anyone tell me what the metal strip in the attached is connected to? Is it the mic?
Thanks.
I have just discovered it's part of the antenna loop.
Any bright ideas of what I can repair it with?
And which antenna is it (it's the one with the black wire on the right hand side when viewed from the rear).

The little one is 2G/3G I think. The bigger one is 4G/LTE I think.
I'd really love to know to fix this too...a blob of solder? A strip of tin foil? No idea!
The metal strip on the outside of the speaker module has come away on mine too when removing the back cover...only a very small section because I noticed and tried to minimise damage.

It didn't make any difference to my signal when I had it like that.
For other reasons though, I replaced the speaker module. This was really easy and the part was really cheap. Probably the easiest way to repair it.
Thanks. That's really good to know re: no loss of signal.
I can confirm this too...I had no loss of signal either, even with a large part of the foil strip missing.
