[Q] Chrome uses the most battery - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason chrome is using the most battery power. It's more than the screen time. Does anyone know why? Is this common?

Its common. chrome uses GPU rendering which put lot of strain on phone. Use dolphin's or install WebKit base browser.

Oh ok thanks.

Droid 2.1 update slowdown?

Is anyone else experiencing a reduced frame rate or slower CPU? Is there any way to fix that or is mine just a fluke? I used a Lag Test .apk to check and my avg. frame rate was about 38 fps as opposed to 60ish before. Please help?
p.s. I used Astro to get rid of my extra unused files and that helped a bit, but still wondering if there is a better fix.

I agree, it seems as though the interface got more sluggish than it once was.
if you have live walpapers active and a non overclocked phone it will be sluggish. also if you download some of the live papers from the market they can be resource hogs. even if it is an overclocked phone it can be slow.

Either I'm misunderstanding what you mean by more aggressive, or you have not compared them to the uv settings in the post that Warrenforfree linked to above

Sorry about my bad english. Ok when i said aggresive i mean more undervolting focus on battery life. In my opiniom i dont like to undervolt Level 0 because when my phone run at 1000 Hz i think its need more volt to run more stable so why undervolt Level 0. If cpu need to run at 1000hz its also need power to run at 1000hz. So my setting is to save a lot of battery in normal use or screen off but if my phone need power because some apps requiere power my phone can get the 1000hz more efficient.

Understood... considering that your phone uses level 0 more then any other level uv'ing that level will probably give you the most significant battery life increase, even when i was using a 1.3 oc i was still uv'd below the 1325 you have your level 0 set to and didn't experience any adverse effects my phone would scale up without issue

Battery life guide.......anyone?

Being a new user of android and the HTC one s. I'm not really sure what uses all the juice and what doesn't. Is there anyone that can write up a brief guide to give beginners a guide on getting the best battery life.
Thanks

The guide is simple. Turn down brightness all the way, turn off data if not using it (or use 2G-only), limit the number of background apps running, use a custom kernel if possible and underclock the CPU speed below 1.5 GHz.
Use apps with dark preferably black backgrounds, AMOLEDS doesn't use any power when displaying black unlike LCDs with backlights. Set black background image, use inverted mode in browser etc. Surf old school porn- and warez sites instead of Wikipedia to profit from black backgrounds Use Wi-Fi for large downloads since a quick download using wifi will save power compared to longer times using cellular data. But by far most important is use display as little as possible and at low brightness displaying dark colors.
Turning sync off helps a lot. If you don't plan on using GPS frequently, turn that off as well. Same with Bluetooth.
Thanks guys ill check out all that info

How do I underclock the CPU. I'm using the mjd kernel I think it is
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
mdj? There might be info on this where you got the kernel. If it was included in a custom rom then there might be some sort of control app included as well, in CM9 its just part of settings. I think ppl use an app called setcpu as well sometimes, 2 USD on market.
Mdj kernal is what I have installed. So will have to try as I'm.getting horrendous battery life

on 3g with data enabled i lose about 10% battery a hour.

Best browser for battery life?

I visit a lot of Web pages sometimes and this ends up using a lot of my battery life. I have tried chrome, dolphin and CM10 stock so far, but I was wondering which browser would be able to give me the best battery life, either just by itself or thru setting changes. Currently on Paranoid Android.

using data uses battery. it just part of the troubles of owning a smart phone.
ive heard people suggest boat browser before, but ive never tried it. i use chrome.
best browser
i would recommend using chrome because it there is no flash. Your paranoid probably is draining the battery. Or you could probably just kill the tabs when you are done using it.
What about paranoid drains the battery more than a stock rom, i figured CM10 roms have a lot less bloat and files meaning better battery life, what dont I know?
And if I need a flash based webpage its impossible to use chrome?
I may be wrong, but I think the stock browser had an invert option under setting. That should save some, I'm on beans 11 so I can't verify this.

I use Maxthon it's very light and fast with lots of features.
I've switched to Ninesky last week and according to battery monitor widget, it uses less power than all the other browsers I've tried.

has anyone tried this on their kindle fire? Notice any significant performance improvement? Increased battery life consumption?
Try the apk... I felt It's quite a battery drainer.

Ok, I'm probably wrong, but I believe placenta is a body part found in women. The umbilical cord goes through it, or something. Probably wrong, but, YOLO.

I can't speak for the KF1 because I haven't loaded this app on mine yet, but I can say that certain things do load faster with this app. I'm not saying that games run better, but there is a noticeable difference when navigating back to the home screen or launching the messaging app on my phone. I would assume that this might help the KF1 because of the somewhat older hardware, since the consensus seems to be that newer hardware already uses this sort of tactic to reduce CPU lag. Obviously I didn't read all one billion pages of the "discussion" about whether this works or not, so please let me know if I'm super wrong.
Gave it a spin on my kindle fire 1 and noticed absolutely zero performance difference. I'd have to agree it is a placebo, at least on the kf1

I felt that it slowed it down especially when playing games.
