[Q] Can anybody help me root my Samsung Galaxy Express 2? - General Questions and Answers

So just got this phone on vodafone UK and it is fairly new.
Any idea how to root it? I have had some experience with this kind of stuff.

Watch this video i uploaded on YouTube maybe this would help.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SYCZzuylVg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Hope it helped.

In the mos times you just need to download a zip file that 'roots' . Enter recovery and use it as an upgrade. Just reboot and you are fine
I have a SII Lite :B

Express 2 SM-G3815
Hello, I would be also interested in the solution to root this device. It seems its so new that the way to do it is hard to find. I guess the previous poster is only to aware that this would void his warranty.
So anyone care to enlighten the knowledge in how to proceed to lift the root restrictions.
I have found that Vol Button down, Home, Power gains download mode.

Anyone reading this. . Please help.

If it is true that this device is almost an s4 mini then perhaps with heimdall one can try to instal s4 mini recovery image. Once booted in recovery one can mount device system partiton rw and copy some superuser apk and the su binary to their places.

restrictions
As it turns out kernel source is available (SM-G3815_JB_Opensource.zip)
but some kernel configs try to limit root usage, like:
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_ROOTING=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_SETUID=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_FORK=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_ROOTING_LOG=y
I built kernel without these restrictions, but I have no SM-G3815 (yet) to try

Have you tried using Framaroot?

You can try and not dangerous

One could try to build a recovery (as I tried, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48681689#post48681689).
However, I cannot verify if the fstab is the correct one...

I leave my mark here, im interested too to root my Galaxy Express 2... so great phone, better than S4 mini and 60€ less.

according to the "builder CWM" this recovery would have to go.
I compressions after the. tar.md5, the folder is located odin, CWM, and original recovery, and root.
Not responsible for destroying your phone. Better not try this recovery if you do not get it.
I personally test tomorrow, now I have this phone available, I own a nexus 5, this phone it is a family member.

Okay thank you SOOO much for that, Another question, is it possible that they sent me a Legend instead of a Spark and thats why the Spark ROM bricked my phone? How would i tell the difference between the two?
And thanks again for the support.

Out of curiosity i downloaded a ROM for the Legend, I installed that and it seems they have sent me a HDC Galaxy S4 Legend because after flashing with that ROM it works perfect. I did buy a Spark but was sent a Legend. What is different on the ROMs? Sorry for all the questions, new to ROMs
Zak, which ROM did you download? I'll try it on my Spark.
Do you still want my ROM?
To know if you have a Legend, you should:
See this video on YouTube: http://youtu.be/utXbKdbDcyI
Go to a store and put an S-View cover on it. Close it. If it works, (S-View mode) you have a Legend!
Other good test: Spark has only 1-side gesture. Legend has both-sides gesture working. How about yours?

Zak. I have your same problem. Tried updating to fluffy rom but ended up causing my phone to ?brick. Now it won't start. No LED, no back light .... nada. Connects though to SP flash tools and can read back, do memory test and able to upload scatter file which only ticks both bootimg and recovery. Don't have the files for the rest (ie preloader, mbr etc etc).
I see from your screen shot you managed to download the whole spark rom with the files I need. Where did you get it?
Did you revive your phone? I hope there's hope for mine....

The S-view flip cover works on mine. It can also respond to calls with air gestures. Everything that a Legend can do plus the Spark features. But it is not a Legend. I tried to flash the -fluffy- Rom for Legend and it soft bricked. I think the early versions of Spark didnt have the S-View cover support and had only 1-way gesture support. The latest ones were updated by the looks of it.

The stock ROM came together with the phone, I didnt download it. It is probably the one you have now too. My build number starts with JDQ39. All phones with that number should have the same ROM on it. I could be mistaking though.

I wouldn't take it as offense and I am also waiting for others to reply.
S5 is the most expensive phone so people wouldn't dare to test it on the phone now.
G900H is mostly sold in India and Samsung Service Centers are refusing warranty claims if Knox is triggered.

well, rooting lets you use apps like titanium backup, to backup apps+data. make a nandroid backup. install apps that needs root, install xposed modules, which neglates the point of roms... its very good. even without custom roms, if you are still new in this. please read a lot first before doing anythin above.

Can you please run Antutu, the benchmarking apk. It would be amazing to get to see the score of the 2.2ghz octa core snapdragon chipset. I have the j3 emerge 327p, rooted and twrp installed (thanks to Ashyx for building twrp and making a way to decrypt data partition!!) I can say with an antutu score of over 28k its the best of the j3 models, so im very eager to check out. Also check out a dev names Messi2050, he developed the twrp for original boost and tmobile j7.
Does this device boot in permissive mode?!
So i find myself with bith a brand spanki g new sm-J327t and sm-j727p. Two pretty cool phones, same phone really. But for the first time since Ive started rooting phones in these past couple months i find myself with no phone to toy with. Developing root is much beyond my skill set. Lets get some root action on these two phones........please!!

Ok seeing as no-one could be bothered to respond to my post I'm just gonna leave this here.
It may boot it may not? It may not even install if this device has a locked bootloader.
If it does then great, report any issues along with the recovery log.
If it doesn't then descriptive information is required along with screenshots where possible. Anybody who simply posts generic 'NOT WORKING' will be ignored.

You say it doesn't boot, but it clearly has, confused?
Also the errors I'm seeing is what I expected using the stock kernel.
The next build will be using a custom built kernel and all those issues should be fixed.
The internal storage won't mount until the /data partition is FORMATTED to remove encryption.
Thanks for testing and reporting.

Which splash screen, twrp or Samsung? Also which firmware build are you running?
Try this one out, this is a kernel recompile. Flash with latest ODIN. http://www.mediafire.com/file/3731mvscl01ruwo/odin3_v3.12.5.zip

root it and get twrp make a backup of the stock flash a custom rom( I recommend slim 6 )
download gapps
btw this will most likely trip knox
Trimming the storage could help, but check your emmc first if it has the brickbug. If the bug is present, don't try to trim it as it will break your tab. Trim requires root on your rom because android supports trim natively on 4.3+ and our rom is on 4.1.2
can i fix it without root?
because i want keep the original rom.
hello
factory reset

You could unroot the tab afterwards... Also you dont have to install a new rom just for roof access

TWRP shouldn't affect your device's performance. Maybe Placebo...
And if you're up for the task, by all means install a custom rom. It contains the latest optimizations and security patches for android so it should be faster than the stock rom. Although there are some bugs on 6.0, they're minor http://andi34.github.io/known_bugs_tab2_6.0.html
Good luck!

On some roms gives installation absorted.
And on some roms says "patching system image unconditionally" and does nothing.

Oppo A3s root. New possibility?

I made the mistake of purchasing an Oppo A3s on an impulse and have just resorted to checking the xda site for updates. Over the last few months, it seems like there may have been some changes to the situation and I wanted to know if this root option was legitimate.
androidleaker(dot)com(forwardslash)unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-and-root-oppo-a3s
On other threads, it's been stated that one of the later colour os updates allowed unlocking of the bootloader and one user seemed to get it working?
"flash with .zip via install storage, zip flashable, fill it with emmc_appsboot, if you are having trouble getting through Qfill, I've tried oppo and the bootloader is disabled, and it works..."
I've never had to deal with a locked bootloader like this so any help is appreciated. the amount of bloatware on this thing is unbelievable.
Genuinely appreciate any insight <3
