[Q] Is possible to block ads in Nexus 5? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like title, is possible to block ads in Nexus 5? I try AdAway and it didn't work..

Ad away works here just fine. Blocking ads in apps and websites. Make sure that you're using the 2.8 Version. It may have a error on the first time you apply it but do it again and the problem will go away.

Try "Forget" permissions in SuperSu and apply AdAway to host files again.

You can also try adblock plus. No root required.

It's not working. It may need to be updated, but i'm not seeing anything mentioned on their forum or blog yet.

I keep getting stuck on it when it tries to apply the host files. Not sure what the issue is.
Edit: Got it to work now. Preciate' the tips previously posted.

Working here

Mother of all AD Blocking
I have been using the "Mother of all AD Blocking" from here and have been very satisfied. AFAIK it only modifies the hosts file and doesn't have any process running that uses battery.

It's got a web server running... Has to be using some battery.

This is misleading at best. AdAway does have a service, but it's disabled by default and not required at all.

One of the apps which did it was Battery Widget Reborn. I initially tried installing it via .apk and got the error. Then the same app normally installed via Play store.

Not trying to be snarky, but what good is a smartphone without internet access? Sounds like a $400 paperweight. Are you running a virus scanner that could possibly be blocking sideloading?

I'm having a similar issue. I've been using a slingplayer app that I downloaded over two years ago. I had it working on my Nexus 5 until I switched to ART. After the switch it wouldn't install. I switched back to Dalvik and now it won't reinstall. I can and have installed every other apk on my phone with no problem since switching back except for this one. Any suggestions?

Tried that and it didn't work, but...
PROBLEM SOLVED! What I did was to do a thorough search inside my root to find anything related to the app I was trying to install. I found out that the app has somewhat partially installed in few places. I then deleted all of those and tried installing again. Worked.

I also tried switching between Dalvik and ART but it didn't seem to change anything. I suggest you search your root for any remnants of the app you want to install. Look in data/app, data/app-lib, data/data and system/app.

[APP]4.0+ ThreeInTouch[BETA]

I saw this posted somewhere and thought it would be useful for those on the 3 network in the UK with poor reception at home.
marin said:
You got a poor signal at home on the THREE Network?
Spoken to THREE yesterday (I'm on the 3,2,1 pay as you go plan) and told them about the poor signal at home and asked them about "HOME SIGNAL", they informed me that this is only available to people "on contract".
They offered me an APP (Which is still in the BETA stage), called "THREE IN TOUCH", which allows you to call and send and receive texts over a wi-fi connection ) [using your phone number]. (They send you a text with the appropriate link).
They informed me that whilst this is in BETA stage, calls and texts are FREE, yes free. The APP goes live on the 27th July 2014. After this date, calls and texts will be charged at standard rates (i.e. 3p / min, 2p / text).
So just to let all the THREE pay as you go people know about this, thought I'd share.

If it's a 3 contract, then presumably yes. It's intended for 3 customers only.
I didn't realise that an activation was needed. I'll add that to the first post. Thank you.
I've just tried RootCloak (with XPosed etc) but Three Intouch still wouldn't run. Also tried RootCloak Plus (with Cydia and SELinux) and that didn't work either. I'm runnng Phoenix ROM 8.0 (Android 4.4.2) on a Galaxy S4. Any other rooted S4 users having any luck with Three Intouch?

Just tried Three inTouch today. Works okay. There's certainly a few features it needs adding before it's ready for full-time use though.

You may have got "Three In Touch" working with Rootcloak by now but, just in case you haven't then I confirm that several of us have found that the released version does work with RootCloak. The thing to do is to ensure "Three In Touch" is not installed and started BEFORE you manualy add the app to RootCloak. If you had installed it and tried to run it on a rooted phone BEFORE installing RootCloak then completely uninstall it, install it once again, make sure the app is added to RootCloak then fire it up. It should now work.

I have the same as OP set up. Unfortunately Power Nap seems to not like the Moto X. I'm hoping that it gets updated and works.

Yeah it definitely helps. I don't think it's a gigantic improvement but it makes a noticeable difference. Even if it's only a few extra hours in standby or a few minutes more of screen on time it's worth it.
I'm at work and can't remember all of my favs, but crappalinks is one of my favorites now... Removes redirects from websites, so if I click on a link I can open it directly now.
APM+ is also great. Used to use gravity box but may not need it now.

Help, about a app and root please. Nexus 5

But i inatalled GMusicFS and it says i don't have root, even having SuperSU and other APPs say I have. Can anybody help me with that?
Personally I think it's an issue with the app. It does not appear it's been updated for marshmallow.

Disable Apps Permanently

Hey, I was wondering if there is a way to disable/uninstall system apps without root. In this specific case, I would like to remove YouTube and Google Duo, however, I tried to disable + force stop the apps but they reappear after a while. Next I tried to disable them via ADB but even then they reappeared like nothing happened.
I'm currently using a OnePlus 7 Pro on the latest OOS, I rather not root the phone just yet. As I don't want to void my UK warranty.
Any suggestions would be welcome
