We're discussing it here, also we have to wait for Nexus 5 Color Control by Francisco Franco
how do you like your note 3?
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/XmRTZ9IyBl0/XA0awB4IHYMJ
There are a lot of people with the same problem. My new RMA is yellowish when I compare it to my old N5 which I will ship back! Pretty annoying but not noticeable when I just use the phone.
Left - N5 16 GB white, ordered more than a month ago
Right - N5 16 GB black arrived few days ago.
Photo is taken with N7, and unfortunately the difference is not that visible as IRL, but I hope that it is still visible.
(Both phones were set to 100% brightness)
Strange part is that yellow tint is not visible when I tilt my phone away from my eyes and when watching it from CCA 45 degrees angle.

When i first received my nexus 5 (2 weeks ago) it didn't look all that yellow maybe a tiny bit. i compared it to my nexus 7(2012) and found it a bit too yellow for my liking.
After 2 weeks of usage the yellow looks completely gone to me. i compared again and saw that the nexus 7 was a bit reddish looking.
I saw on some forums that because the glue beneath the screen wasn't dried yet that caused it to be yellow. But now it looks great!
I consider it a hardware defect but its also a panel lottery, how yellow your device is compared to the "warm" and "normal" colors on the N5 is anyone elses guess. Mine was pretty yellow but the phantom kernel based on franco's fixed it right up for me though its a little bit blue now but it is significantly better than a yellow tinted screen.
The yellow tint will go away after a couple weeks. Don't worry about it. It will disappear

hi is this from your experience from owning the device ?...so if it goes away would it be due to the glue or something?

same question here, bought it yesterday, and yellow as hell compared to my N7... what do you base on when saying it will disappear?
thanks
Yeah mine was yellow compared to the my mom's and brother's moto x. But my whites are better then their whites.
This is why reviews usually suck. They test for several hours and review. No not good enough.
MKBHD did his right (sort of). He did a first impression and didn't like it 100%. Turns out, after a while he realizes it is like a shoe, gotta break her in till it's comfortable.
Patience is key.

Hi I bought the g2x like a week ago it had little backlight bleed from the top corners and today I noticed its getting worse, now its from the middle and from bottom to plus now I have a dead pixel. I checked the phone when I got it the first day and now its getting very bad. I wanted to keep but its going back.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I was just looking at mine today and you might be right-when I got it a little over a week ago the bleeding was minor-nothing to worry about, now it's clearly visible under low light environment- top left and right corners as well as the bottom left corner. Completely unacceptable for $550 device that claims to be one of the best super smart phones out there.
I so wanted to overlook the screenbleed but now when its getting worse I can't , plus now I have a dead pixel right in the middle that's making me more crazy, yesterday my friend got himself g2x and he's the screen is good but it had other problems like wifi connection issues and rebooting, man this phone sound so perfect on the paper but when u get them they have so many problems. I'm thinking waithing for gs2.

i have had 2 that had horrible bleeding and one with reboots/wifi/sim wont recognize problems....
third one on the way
i figured it would get worse as i stated in other threads... my tv got worse within just about 3 months time after buying it and i got it replaced...
i just dont get why some are really bad....others are ok... and then some have NO backlight bleeding... again ill say it...
i worked in a plastic company for 3 years total and we had "standards" parts that where not to the "standard" where thrown away..... this is all about korean quality control.... they dont have any if there is such wide spectrum of good bleed vs bad bleed vs horrible bleed....

I returned for other reasons. I had reboot issues.and data stuck in 2g one. I had minimal on all. Like I said u only notice in a complete pitch black room with brightness on 100%. Yes blown out of proportion. The issue isnt gonna be fixed for some time. Most stores arent even on a second batch shipment. Keep returning if u think it will make matters better. I just picked mine up. After the android update, my camera went wonky and I had to exchange for a second time. Unfortunately, I ended up with another sh*tty screen after finding a decent one. Decided to wait until today and try the white or return altogether (getting a decent screen is a crapshoot). Guys, there are zero blobs on this screen, it seems crisper and lines are a non-issue...it is nearly perfect! I have to wonder if Samsung addressed the obvious issues with the white version. If you are still within your 30 days and having screen issues, I HIGHLY suggest trying the white version. I finally feel like I got my money's worth and have zero regrets about this phone.

I wish I had screenshots of the screen prior to the exchange but I do not, sorry, but just review the pics that other members have posted and you will get the idea. I have attached 3 screenshots from the new white version. On the phone I had prior to the exchange, the black background showed hideous blobs and blotches all over the screen but as you can see, the same exact black background shows zero blotches (on the lowest or highest brightness). Everythings looks so much richer and crisper on this one, imho...FYI, my screen is on a fairly low brightness setting.

I actually went to ATT to get the HTC Vivid, but I was really disappointed with it. After talking to a very nice and intelligent sales rep, I decided to get the Skyrocket instead. When he went to get one from storage he realized that there were no black ones left. He told me that if we came back tomorrow (today) I could get a white one. His manager overhead the discussion and said "hold on". She walked back got a white one and told my sales rep he could sell it to me. I was very impressed with the level of service I received and I'm really happy with this phone. The white model is stunning IMO.

Ive been waiting for my skyrocket for 3 weeks now. Now I'm getting the white one hopefully today. Since they just came out yesterday. I finally get to have a new phone after using the captivate for a full year .
Was also able to return my black GS2 Skyrocket for a white one yesterday!! It feels smoother, the chrome lining does make it look nice, and under close inspection I could still see some vertical lining, but its less apparent than it was on the older gs2.
Maybe they did fix it, or I'm not seeing it. Then again it never really bothered me in the first place so I'm not entirely sure...
Was browsing the xda app today on the dark theme and I found two dead black spots on my screen. Thankfully they only show up on very dark grey backgrounds and are black. Tried all the dead pixel finders on the market but they don't show up on those...very odd.

Has something to do with the manufacturing process of the AMOLED screens. Fairly normal from what I have read on here.

My phone has the same issue. Several dark patches all over on a dark background while in a dark room. That is the only time i ever notice it; doesn't bother me in the least. Other people have sent in phone after phone, every one of them having these these splotches.
It's from the way they glue the screens together and the glue doesn't dry or something in areas.

This happens to all phones, and led/lcd screens for that matter. People just notice and complain more (rightfully so) on more expensive models. 2 of my last 3 phones before this had at least 1 dead pixel.
You should be able to replace it under warranty, no?
Personally my worst fear isn't dead pixels though, it would be waking up to find a naked Rex Ryan fondling my feet...

The blotches are different than dead pixels. Dead pixels are an instant replacement even if just 1.
That's actually a "problem" with all super ambled screens. It happens when the screen isn't lit correctly or bright enough. It's normal and hhappens on all of the screens.

I'm hoping some of you can help answer this question.
So i got my nexus 5 yesterday and after turning it on I immediately noticed the screen was very off and yellow compared to the nexus 4.
I did some searching online and found different answers. Some people say it gets better with time as the glue or solution on the screen dries, and other people say it never gets better and they RMA'd it for a new one.
I went back to the carphone warehouse today and one of the guys had his own personal nexus 5 ( good man ) and his screen was a lot better quality and the whites were much better. He agreed immediately that the screen looked poor and got a brand new unit out to do a straight swap but after turning that one on we found it looked the same as mine.
The guy had his from release day so his screen may have had time to break in making the glue / solution claims true.
I said i would give it a week or so to see if the screen got any better and take it from there.
Can any of you confirm if you have found this to be the case?
Ive put a picture below of the difference from my nexus 4 to my nexus 5. Sorry about the poor quality it was taken with my nexus 10 lol.
Thanks
Ye common problem I guess.
Mine is yellowish too, still, its from december 2013 and the yellowish stuff is not gone I guess.
Just try Display Control and test some color profiles, this should make it barely visible with some luck.
Of course you will need a compatible kernel like franco kernel
I just notice it when its close to a real white monitor.
I suggest a Kernel with color controls, as a previous poster Franco Comes to mind.

I had like 6 or 7 different N5's for now in my hand, all with the yellowish tint on it, on some it was better, on some it was even worse.
I even got mine replaced for some dead pixels and a fine crack and did end up with a more yellow display
But srsly, just stop thinking about it. Aslong as you dont compare it to a white monitor you wont notice it after using color controll to fix the colors
Yeah but it should be ok out of the box without having to mess with things to make it look better and manipulate the display. As I said the guys in the shop had an awesome display compared to mine. So its not just that that's how it is cos I've seen that his is better.
A woman at my work also has it so I'll look at hers too on Monday and compare cos I'm off this week

No matter how many times you keep exchanging it, it won't get better. This is just how they're made. It isn't the glue or anything like that, it's the screen itself. The only solution to this is to use a custom kernel with a customized color profile.
If everything else works, I would keep it and do what I suggested. There's more of a chance that a replacement will have other issues than just keeping the one you have if everything else works properly.

Yeah, it seems to be that the earlier made ones didn't have the yellow tint. You're not going to find those new though. You could buy a used one I guess. But really, just use a custom kernel and fix the problem in 10 minutes.

My nexus 5 is from the first batch, and next to my Nexus 7, it's very white ! No yellow here...
So I guess that's an issue with many new N5

Yeah exactly. Yours looks good compared to the picture posted of mine in the OP. Theres definately something not right here.
I had 3 different Nexus 5's in my hands at the same time, and only one had normal whites (one ordered on a first day).

I have the latest January batch and my screen is perfectly alright... No yellow tint whatsoever...
Yeah, if I compare it with other Samsung phones, then it might look a Lil bit washed out.. But there's seriously something fishy going on with your display.. It shouldn't have this much yellow tint on it...
- Swiped from my Nexus 5!
After a couple of days the display is actually starting to look better.
The nexus 4 whites are actually starting to look a little crappy and blue at the side of the nexus 5.
Maybe I'm just getting used to it now. It still doesn't look like matrix_19 screen
heres some pictures from day one to now.
If you look at the last picture of it on its own on google chrome it looks fine its only when at the side of another device you really see the difference
This is day one
This is today
This is today on its own in chrome
What do you guys think
Woaah! The colour surely has changed a lot! Congrats man!

Yeah seems to be better. Like I said still not perfect but I'll give it couple more days over the weekend and see how it is early next week.
It does seem to have sorted itself out a bit

I bought my device in Nov 2013 when it was launched in India, I got a 311k batch at that time and it was too yellow , I RMA'ed mine and told them that screen is too yellow and I got a 310k batch this time.
The whites are not as white as my nexus 7 2013 but they are ok for me, I can live with them and generally I notice it when when I compare it to nexus 7 or my sony and samsung devices.

I have a day one N5. Not one problem (that wasn't because of KK bugs).
All of this worry would be better redirected to deciding what ROM you're going to put on it. And oh man, what kernel should you use?
I know it's personal preference, but I never understood the color thing. Just don't get it. To each their own, I guess.

No, it's just OP'sluck that he got one with small speaker holes. The 312, 401, 402 aren't revisions. In fact they are the month in which the device was manufactured/packed.
Yes, there was no revision. I have a brand new red one and a 311 white one and there are no differences. Besides color of course Lol

The larger speaker holes were for the black one specifically. They probably fixed the glue issue and figured they didn't need the larger speaker holes after a short while. Therefore the red and white ones don't have it. Maybe even the newer black ones don't have them anymore. Never know.
Guys, there are no "revisions" or batches. Devices are produced constantly on a line, where device 9999 may be revision 310 the one after it can be 311. Also no device can be exactly same as the other, thats why some have bigger holes, some have smaller.

Some do, some don't. Its just manufacturing tolerances.

Yea I understand. But you would assume all red would have the updated holes since they were made after the change. So now I'm just curious.

There are no "updated holes". Some have big ones. Some have little ones. Its not a conscious decision. Just different machines calibrated differently etc, hence the term "manufacturing tolerances"

That's because they aren't updated holes, just variances in the manufacturing process. Exactly why RootSU said tolerances.
