[Q] Brightness problem

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my one xl (o2de, everything is stock): depending on a picture on the screen its brightness changes. The "whiter" picture - the higher the brigthness (and it's not a hallucination), it looks like inverted CABC with big amplitudes of brightness changes. For example, screen brigthness for the picture 2 would be higher than for the picture 1, the same stuff with 4 and 3 (and it happens even during video playback, brightness goes up and down constantly). What could be the reason? Automatic brightness is off, of course.
My girlfriend just got her phone in the other day and it has this issue. It's currently flashed with CleanROM 5.1 and has been doing this.
My phone (same model) is also running CleanROM 5.1 and it doesn't seem to have this issue.
Does anybody have any ideas or solutions?
Could be a screen firmware or hardware issue. I would RUU and see if it continues.
I second that. HTC is known for this bug. You can also download Velis from the market. That seems to fix it too.

1. Although the nexus 5 is quite high end, the battery is only 2300ma. Keep that in mind. However with a custom kernel you might have better results.
2. You mean the CRT screen off animation? Thats normal.

[Q] Vibration Function not working

Hello,
I am using Nexus 5 32 GB and from the day one I am facing a problem that my mobile is not vibrating in any case even if I am putting it in vibration mode.
Can anyone tell me the issues or any solution to this or do I need to get it replaced from the LG service center.
Regards,
Shishir
Some Nexus 5's came with a faulty vibrating motor. I highly suggest you get it replaced, as it wasn't working as it should have since day one. All the best.

[Q] A question about backlight control

Hi everyone, I am a new member in XDA.
I am planning to buy a nexus 5 and I am now a Z1 user.
There is one feature in Z1 which is called optimized backlight control. It adjust the backlight depends on what is displaying.
It can be turn off but after some update the option is always on.
It cause some screen flickering especially when watching video.
So I would like to ask does nexus 5 have this feature? If it does not I am going to buy one.
I remember that xperia T have this feature also but it can be disabled by using a custom kernel.
Sorry for my bad english.

I remember there was an adaptive brightness option..
Anyways the screen doesn't flicker when I watch videos, so that should pretty much solve your problem.

No, I'm pretty positive the N5 doesn't have the optimized backlight control. The only option I've seen for backlight is feature in some of the kernels for a optional backlight dimmer. The only other option is your standard screen brightness levels.

Thanks for both of your answers. I do a little search and accidentally find something called content adaptive brightness control. here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/initd-settings-to-disable-content-t1675563
That means Galaxy Nexus have this annoying feature always on also?
It seems like most people are not quite care about screen flickering. Actually on Z1 it is not quite obvious compared to xperia T but it is uncomfortable when the screen flicker.
After all I just want to get a phone without flicker
p.s. I am previously an xperia T owner, when I discover this feature I return the phone. After around a year I get my Z1 but unfortunately this feature is still here. It makes me wonder is this becoming a standard feature? I wound rather scarify my battery life to get a screen without flicker.

Yeah I've never experienced any kind of a screen flicker on the N5... This thing is a beast and has an awesome screen.
Nope, I've owned all nexus phones except the nexus s and I've never experienced any flickering issue. On the rare times I did it was because I compiled my rom wrongly. Purely my fault and not the device.

Am i the only one who has display backlight flickering with my Zenfone 6?

Hi,
i got my Zenfone 6 today, and i really like it, but there is one thing that probably makes me return it...
The display is flickering when it‘s set to really low brightness, i think its the backlight.
I‘m not sure if it's broken or not. So, am i the only one with a flickering display?
Thank you

I had the same situation yesterday, it was on low brightness too.
But only for a few seconds, for now, everything seems fine, even in low brightness.
With adaptive brightness set on or off?
Do you have the latest firmware version WW-16.1210.1904.133?
It doesn‘t matterif adaptive brightness is on or off, it does it as soon as the display lowers its brightness to the 1st 1/4 of the brightness bar...
Ok. Do you have the latest firmware version WW-16.1210.1904.133?

Hi, i have the same problem. Received the phone a week ago and trying to find a solution. I am on the last firmware, tried the dev option about overlay, hard reset and still the same. Going to send it back to Asus for a refund...
I wonder if this is software or hardware related. As of now i can't use it at night with low brightness.
It will probably be a problem for a particular phone, I would recommend that you replace it with a new one.

Thanks for the feedback. Called Asus this morning to replace it hopefully.
My Zenfone 6 does the same. If I set the adaptive brightness on the low brightness flickering disappears. I think it's a software related problem because others Zenfone have the same behaviour.
Tried it. No matter the settings it flickers. I found a video that match the problem, weird no one noticed : youtu.be/DN1La8AbZsI
Check at 1.16 min, on the right side, it flickers like that, when the luminosity is low. This is what i see on my screen.
Same here. White backgrounds flicker when brightness set to low. Tried disabling HW overlay, but it didn't help. Phone on the latest firmware WW_16.1210.1904.133.
Anybody letting the techs at Asus know about these problems? I would like to hear about a fix before I buy anything.
I am in touch with Asus France, i have to send back the phone for an exchange as they told me it MAY be a hardware problem.
I linked the thread to them if it can help.
Every zenfone I have had (2 and 3) have had this issue.

I think it's a software issue...if you let the brightness working in auto mode the problem disappears.
It is set in auto mode on my device and still the same. With or without doesn't help sadly.
Hmmm is this international version? The U.S is coming next month. Hopefully this get fix before I'm buying it.

Mine is flickering when brightness is set to low (about 1/4-th of the brightness slider and down) no matter auto or no auto.
Funny how we here in the US complain that so many phones are released in the EU, or India, or China long before they ever appear here....but in reality it could be that we benefit from this practice so that some of these issues can be resolved by others before we have to deal with them.

I hope that when this phone is released in your country, this issue will be solved definitively via software update. The way I see it, this problem isn't a huge problem, fortunately. Actually the screen flickering occours only if the brightness is set to a very low level (e.g. <20%) but, with this setting, the backlight is too dim as well for use even in a dark room (obviously for my taste). Since I use adaptive brightness with default settings, the minimum value the screen brightness reaches is 34% so I never get the problem....
