[Q] File System: F2FS or ext4? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I've searched around to find what default file system Google is using for Android KitKat & Nexus 5.
The improvements on using F2FS are huge as showed by the Moto X and I would be surprised if Google didn't use it on the newest Nexus.
I found this thread which asked a similar question, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512026, but no answer.
What is the default filesystem for data and for system in Android KitKat?
What is the Nexus 5 formatted to?
thanks

I do wonder why... Would it be possible to format it to F2FS and copy-paste the same files or do you need to make some changes in the code?

I would also like to know if it isn't possible to use f2fs with our new phone for a performance boost.

[Q] 4.2 - Hard freeze when attempting to play music files

Hello all,
I've recently upgraded to 4.2 using CyanogenMod 10.1. I understand this is not the "Cyanogen forum" -- I am not certain my issue is related to the ROM.
Whenever I attempt to play an MP3 file, located in "/storage/emulated/0/Music", the phone hard freezes and the battery must be removed to restore functionality.
I've tried using the following applications to do so.
- Google Play Music
- Apollo
- Android Music Player (from the market)
I've tried the following troubleshooting steps.
- Browse manually to afile, and try to open it with all three of those apps - all result in a hard freeze
- Allow the apps to find the files, which they do, then play them -- same result
- Delete entire Music library, then transfer over a "fresh" album after creating a Music folder, then repeat the steps above - same result
- Attempted to use the file manager to modify permissions on the folder - none of the changes saved
Interesting notes
- I can copy the files, or delete them. I have no problem accessing them with the file manager. I can access image files in the same folders
What's odd is that I can read/write from the storage just fine with other applications, such as Colornote. I'm a bit unfamiliar with the 4.2 directory structure (emulated? 0?) but it seems to be related to multiple user functionality. I am familiar with Linux in general. Can anyone offer any advice, tips/tricks, or further troubleshooting steps I can take? Any help is much appreciated.
Best regards.

Thank you!
Changing lpa.decode to "false" then rebooting the device solved this issue. I've bookmarked these places for future reference.
Thanks again.

OTA Update for Pico_hTC_Asia_India_1.10.720.1 to 1.31.720.3-1.13.720.4_release_230853

THIS IS A OTA UPDATE ZIP FOR Pico_hTC_Asia_India_1.10.720.1 to 1.31.720.3-1.13.720.4_release_230853
I got this update while downloading an upgrade for hTC pico stock rom link given in @immortal_yash thread Stock Rom with EXT2/3/4 file system support
When I tried to upgrade it failed and stuck on CWM recovery menu and I reinstalled fresh ROM.
My purpose of posting this thread with upgrade package is a request to DEVELOPERS if it is possible please modify this update zip so we can flash it on a rooted rom like Immortal_yash bro provided in his thread.
Download link google drive
This update pack has some interesting new feature including system wide hindi and other local language support.
It will also upgrade firmware to 1.13.720.4.
And also an optimize storage option under storage menu
AFAI remember, i was the one who posted this OTA!

Actually I have used link2sd in my previous stock rom. some times it causes linking problems and also large number of files remain in system despite using link2sd that cause instbility in apps and also low memory.
So I want init.d support in the stock rom. mount2sd or int2ext works great on CM roms that I am using in my phone. I tried many tricks available here and in market to bring init.d support in stock but failed.
I request you and other developers.....make init.d support...it would be grateful to me and many other users.

Public version work without problem, I use it after update to 4.2.2. Only bug is that it remove fm radio so you need to push it back to system after running rom cleaner.

One X version should work. What might be a problem is the "update-binary-installer" (device dependent)
If the update-binary-installer isn't compatible with your device, the updater-script will fail and show a blank install screen.

ROM Cleaner will remove apps and files
from your device.
If basic ROM Cleaner setup removed too much
apps and files after running, just download
"ROMCleaner_user.txt" or "NO-Sense_user.txt"
or "CM-AOSP_user.txt" from ROM Cleaner thread
@xda and make your personal edits.
More details can be found in second post...
ROM Cleaner is well tested by us and thousands
of users and should not make your phone unstable.
If you do get into trouble, make a post in the
adequate ROM Cleaner thread and we will help you.
Important!
When you flash this script you will heavily
modify the ROM! So before you report bugs or
non working apps (etc) in ROM Development threads,
think twice and please feel free to ask us first.
Requirements
- You can read this...
- Bloated HTC device
With other words, that's not a bug in ROM Cleaner.
You just didn't read about the ROMCleaner_user.txt.

How To Edit Your Personal User.txt
Steps you need to do:
--- Windows users, download Notepad++ and install it.
--- Download "ROMCleaner_user.txt" or "NO-Sense_user.txt" from the firstpost
--- Open the text file with Notepad++
In the text file you will find two columns with app names and a description in this guide we use AdobeReader.apk as an example.
To Remove a file with ROMCleaner
Code:
AdobeReader.apk Adobe Reader PDF reader
In the case above "AdobeReader.apk" will be removed.
To keep a file with ROMCleaner If you decide to keep it, add a "#" at the beginning of the line:
Code:
[COLOR=Red]#[/COLOR]AdobeReader.apk Adobe Reader PDF reader
Let's say we are done with the edits. To continue just complete next list:
--- Press the "X" in the upper right corner of the screen to save the changes.
--- Copy the file onto your sdcard. The file must be located in "/sdcard/ROMCleaner" folder.
Now ROM Cleaner script will always read that file!

No. I took the one he shares on that thread. I went in the zip file and made minor adjustments for my 4.1.2 Rom. Then used it. I haven't shared it because even though I made some changes, it is ultimately his work so I haven't shared the one I made modifications to due to me not asking for his permissions to distribute it publicly on our forum. So I have held on to it as a personal resource.

Well, you should know how frustrating it is developing, writing manuals and people not reading what they are flashing or how to use the freely provided software correctly. It takes lots of time dev-ing making it as user-friendly as possible. Most questions are answered in the manual, which you agreed to have read it while flashing.
Using ROMCleaner and edit it to your demands isn't really rocket science.
So don't stop reading manuals and replies, it will only lead to more frustration for us and to other users.
Having this said: I urge you leaving the discussion as it is, and PLEASE keep reading, as it shows some respect to Patrics83 and his team.
Let's go on with this thread. Cheers!

[Help] External Sdcard andoid folder read only

Good Evening/Hello/Hi,
I own a Motorola Moto g3 2015 and I am running stock firmware (6.0.1), unrooted and bootloader locked. When I try to move any files from external sdcard android folder FX explorer says the content is read only, in es explorer I can copy and paste in any other location and then delete the content from android folder. There is no Cut and Paste from external sdcard android folder only copy and paste. I can delete or rename the files or folders, create new file/folders.
Is this a problem in every marshmallow devices, is there anyone else who faces this issue. This makes issues when I need to move a file which is larger then the free space of sdcard, because direct cut and paste is not possible.
Thank You
This is a problem with Android M, and a fix is in the works at the moment. Search it up, others have your problem. I don't know, maybe they will find a solution

EDIT: I believe it may use the same method as the old Kitkat fix for read/write permissions for External SD, but I haven't checked up on it for months.
