Hey guys, just received my N5. I noticed that when I switched to front camera there was a slight delay. Also, when I was moving it around it seemed a little jumpy. The back camera was a bit jumpy too but I just assumed that was because of the OIS. Anyone experience the same thing?
I think it's just the software.
I saw Google said that they will update the Camera software on our phones...
Honestly, I think our Cameras are excellent, just the lacking software.

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah, I don't know the front camera doesn't look great. Which is weird because I was watching a review of a comparison between the front camera in the N5 and the S4 and it actually looked pretty good. Maybe I'm just in a poorly lit area.

I was just wondering if there were any hacks that can be done to the camera. Like speed and quality. The camera doesnt seem like it put out '5mp' quality images.

You can change the quality via settings...
what hes asking is if you can change the shutter speed, not the image quality settings.

try to understand that its not a camera but a phone, the camera is a 5mp sensor but the quality of the sensor and the rest of the optics are not going to be on par with a 5mp point n shoot dedicated camera. software tweaks will only do so much given what they have to work with. you can get pleasing snap shots in good lighting conditions when you're without a proper camera.
some phones will focus(no pun intended) on the camera feature(of the PHONE) and you will get better images. for example my nokia n95 takes much better photos than my hero, and the new experia x10 supposedly has a really good camera(for a PHONE) although i haven't used it first hand im told it can almost replace your point n shoot cam.
so in short you should lower your expectations a notch or two.
Like the above poster said, I mean you've got plastic optics and a fixed focal point--you aren't going to be taking awesome pictures.

Wait..what? I have been waiting for HTC to release a 70mm-300mm zoom lens with image stabilization for the Hero.. Are you saying that I will have to wait forever?

its coming with the 2.1 update.
I only wish the shutter speed was a little faster, but this goes for ALL phone cams. You can never get a steady picture if you have shaky hands or are trying to snap a shot of a 2 year old.
bring the came close to your body and slowly exhale when taking your photo. try stabilize yourself better. the shutter speed is pretty slow cause the sensor is not all that sensitive so more light exposure is needed.
as for getting kids to stay still, good luck.

Try ISO 400 or 800, you'll get more image noise but you should get better results with fast moving targets....3 and 6 year old, here
Fixed Focal length

Wouldn't the fact that it has autofocus infer that it is not a fixed focal length? There is a mechanical autofocus lens in the camera. Still not as good as any real camera, but it is the best phone camera I have ever had.

hahaha, I wasnt looking for photography quality. 'but I see now what your saying about its a sensor and what it has to work with isnt great. Thats all I wanted to hear. I know its not guru style ish, just a camera phone. Just looking to see if there was anything you could do to it, but guess not. Thanks.
Just curious, I see a lot of issues are with the camera and FPS. I was wondering if the quality was any better with a smaller resolution? I wonder if ASUS will have a OTA update for the camera app.

From what I've read, the FPS issue is only affecting the rear camera. Asus is working with google on correcting this - I can almost guarantee this is a software bug and I'm certain it will be resolved.

It's got to be, too much potential to be so underdeveloped. Is the audio playback better on the front camera too?
Yeah the fps issue is only with the rear camera for video. Once they fix the fps issue it looks like it is capable of a fairly decent video quality.
The quality of still camera shots is average, but then it is only 5mp. Obviously if you wanted a proper picture, chances are you wouldnt lug your tablet around to take one anyways. It's handy for scanning documents, etc of course.
The lack of a flash isnt really bothering me, which I thought it would.
From what I understand, it's more than just a frame rate issue -- several reviewers have noted that the shutter lag is unacceptably long, at over two seconds between pressing the shutter button and the picture actually being captured. Unless Google and Asus can solve that, it'll still prove unusable for many people. But as noted, most people (myself included) aren't buying the Transformer for the cameras...
I don't know why people care so much about the camera for? Obviously its garbage just use a DSLR or Camcorder if you want pics/vid cause the pics you get on this will be the same as your cell phone.

Solely for unexpected snapshots, to be quite honest. But you're paying for it, wouldn't you expect it at least to be usable, even if it's not great?
And incidentally, speaking personally, my main shooter *is* a very good quality DSLR with a good selection of lenses including a few primes.

That would mean carrying around a camera in my pocket too when I already have the cellphone and a tablet with cameras and (potentially) great playback. btw, my cell phone take fantastic pictures and video..so I wish in that respect! I would use the camcorder function mainly to record videos of the phone LMAO! A camera would be like a 3rd investment and get left behind a lot for me.

^ Definitely great for that reason and yes! We are paying for it.. might as well do what it says it does lol
Personally I really like snapping pics and videos on tablets. I love the big screen with the camera, and the idea of having one central media device.

In the faint distance I hear a post screaming bloody murder as the delete button backspaces each letter haha
I honestly don't care too much for the camera. It'd nice to have, but I'd rather have a less buggy OS. It seems like there's a memory leak issues with the device if it's left running for a while. I hope that gets resolved.
Hello everyone,
The photos from Snapchat specially with the front camera turn out to be quite grainy. Updated to the latest version and still the same issue. Anyone experiencing the same? And is there a probable fix? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.
I have the same issue. They fixed it for a while but it appeared again on last update
i have same issue too. front cam is normally bad also in default app, but on snapchat it is awful

Front camera is not normally bad in default app, you must have software or hardware issue. This is a Snapchat issue, you should probably email developer.

I mean against the main camera. front is not so good. i tested it with 4-5 devices at same quality level they are all slightly better in terms of front camera. i dont know my device has problem or not but, i couldn't take clear photo in close-up. it seems little bit blurry

Of course the rear camera is going to be better than the front camera. You can not take close up pictures with the front(selfie cam). Phone needs to be at least a foot away(arms length is better).
Threes definitely an issue with Snapchat and the front camera on this phone. The photos are ridiculously grainy and much worse than front photos taken with the stock camera app.
Yes it is. Snapchat team needs to fix that on their software. But I don't think that it will be soon

Hey guys, Got my phone 2 days back. I received a software update the very moment I signed in and I did.
Later through the day I went on checking the cameras. I was in a medium to low lit room and I could see the front camera was blurry. So I tried taking pictures but they did turn out well. I tried gcam but the viewfinder was still the same blurred with good shots after the photo was clicked.
I went outside to check the camera and I could see the viewfinder preview was sharp as it looks on my op5. I went back to the low lit room and the viewfinder turned blurry again. Also I tried video calling and the receiver told me that my video looked like some low frame rate camera.
I received an update later which reduced the blur effect a little but it's very much noticeable.
Anybody else has this issue?
Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to be as detailed as possible.
Also I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue. If it's a hardware issue the viewfinder should've been blurred in good light too right?
Also photos when clicked in low-light come out good. The issue is with the viewfinder only.
I'm sceptical of getting a replacement if it's not a hardware issue due to the lockdown delay and all and since it's from OnePlus site I don't get the return option either like Amazon.
Please share your valuable thoughts regarding this and if anyone else's facing the same issue.
Seems like nobody has the issue. So I might rma the device.
Thanks people

I am still trying to understand if this is an hardware problem or software. I wrote on a forum and they told me "sometimes blurry, but its okay with the colours" and another "whatsapp videocalls were always pretty bad, but I faced issue with blurry camera only at night". People answered me like if this is normal for a 1000€ phone...I come from one plus 7t pro and the front camera was better. I don't know what to do, I wait some days to find more discussion about this, if this is an hardware problem I try to replace otherwise I will ask refund...
I'm pretty sure the 7T & both 8s use the same font camera sensor (Sony imx471) so the images should be similar depending on software.

Actually the photos in low light turn out good once you've captured them. They're blurry only in the viewfinder. As such video calls are also blurry since what you see on the viewfinder is what the receiver gets.
To top it all the viewfinder is sharp when it's good lighting out there. The issue is only with medium to low light
Hi, i am facing the exact same problem. I got my phone (OnePlus 8) two days back and I started having second thoughts. I really hope it's a software issue. Spent a lot on this device.
I just bought one plus 8 and I am feeling so regretful as I figured out my front camera blurry, I don't know what should i do
Should I wait for software update?

I had a pixel2xl before the one plus 8. When I compared the quality of the photos in general, I thought that the one plus 8 must be broken. we agree that the camera of the one plus 8 is simply ****...
Ok, guys, since it's a very important topic, one of the pros of this device and what it is advertised for, I feel the need and obligation to speak about the front camera ridiculous noiseness, blurriness and inability to focus.
Alright, I won't even bother with the mighty rear cameras because there's enough fuss about them. What I noticed clearly is about the front. Dude, this camera configuration by the date is horrid. I say configuration because, thank god, it seems to be a software error.
In low light, the front camera is simply a wreck full of noise. And what is most is that I noticed that because I've came from the g7 plus, which had a great front camera, recording 4k. And even without using 4k on that one, I noticed the bad quality of the g8 plus HD one. I don't want to mention that bad adjusting to light conditions, too.
Now, after downloading Gcam and testing it, it seemed to get rid of substancial noise, but not too good.
I hope you guys noticed this too and we get reedeemed by a future update on this crap. It seems software problem
We need custom roms.
