didn't work for me..
I just called.. I told the Sprint rep how Verizon and T-Mobile have this phone for $199 or less and I just paid $449 (before rebate) for this exact same phone.. She asked if Sprint was "in danger of losing my business" and I said yes and she put me on hold for a couple mins. When she came back she said that she could not offer me a discount, and then tried to explain how overall I am paying less money for more value with Sprint etc. etc. There is some truth to that, since Verizon is horrendously expensive and tmobile's network sucks. But I still paid way too much for this phone.
Perhaps this didn't work because I have the Sprint referral offer ($20 off per month). I am still miffed that they would not also honor my corporate discount because they "can't stack discounts". Whatever happened to the OLD sprint.. From all of these SERO stories I've heard, the retentions people used to do just about _anything_ to keep your business..
I will just call and ask again tomorrow. I don't have much time left on my trial period since I got the phone about 3 weeks ago, and as far as I am concerned they WILL give me another discount in one form or another or I will seriously consider canceling the contract.
She said if the price of the TP2 drops within my 30 days then they will issue a refund for the difference. But I'm not sure I can count on it happening in the next 7 days... I can always re-buy it in a week or two when the Sprint price does come down to $199.
Thanks for the heads up OP.

I work for Sprint, and this is not necessarily true, but if you want some pointers on what to do to get it at that price , pm me. There are other things that go into consideration; payment hist, account spending limit
ya, this is for the masses.
id give ya a girls name at sprint that can comp any line.. any amount but thats not the way to do it..
this way works if you dont qualify they will say no..
Worked like a charm for me. Thanks for the heads up. I was honest and direct and they matched verizons price in the form of sprint credit. 150.
well i finnally called yesterday becauseb i hadnt had time before and i told them i wanted to cancel because the only reason i started the line was for the touch pro 2 but i paid 500 and its free on tmobile through wmdeals.com and 199 on verizon..so they put me on hold and then they credited me back 400 dollars so the phone total was ....
99 bucks
SERO Plan
Well, i just tried the same thing and was told they wouldnt do anything just because i am on the SERO plan and i am already saving!!!!
I still explained that it had nothing to do with the plan, but they just said if i leave sprint i will end up paying more on the long run (its true) but regardless, i have been over 10 years with them, and always buying the latest phones, so the truth is on the long run, yeah, if i leave i loose, but obviously, they would loose more because they would loose me as a client.

Quick question
I was thinking of ditching at&t. What should i say if im gonna be a NEW customer?
Ok saw this in the sensation forum and tried it and got 5 gig for20 bucks vs 30. Rumor is no soft cap... Well I'll find out cause I'm gonna try and hit it..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192020
Ask for retentions, politely ask about the android preferred data plan. Then when the say yes, make sure its 5gb for 20 bucks... Then ask if they can apply it to your account..... They still say there is a cap, but others report no throttling. Either way its 10 bucks off...
What's this got to do with g2x you may ask? Well it just makes our g2x that much pimper...
They let me do it on both lines and one is new... Time to test throttling
I will give that a try when I get back home from work....
Thanks for the heads up
Im on this plan but never go over to test it out

Hell ya, great job... Listen to this..
Used to have two lines, family share for 99$+ 20$ 2 gigs, + 30$ for 5 gigs, 7.99$ insurance plus taxes like 160+ .. Called and got the g2x free adding another line for only 10$ a month, so total 170+ and free g2x..
Today, called and switched 30$ 5 gig plan to 20$, so that cancels out the new line cost. Them called and got the 20$ 2 gig plan changed to 20$ 5 gig plan...
So I made out this last week, free phone, free line and unlimited 5gb plans ..
I have been using this data add-on for YEARS. Whether it be the Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, or Total Internet package I have been using the same data plan (effectively) for $20.

Thanks! this worked for me- been a customer for 7 years also
Just changed my plan today...
I had Family 1000 with 2 lines and an @home $10 a month plan. My data lines were $30-5gb for mine, and my daughter had the $15-200mb plan. I called and converted both to the $20-5gb android plan. I started the converstation stating that's what I was calling about, and the rep told me immediately that it was available. No hassle at all. I'm happy!
Awesome guys glad to hear y'all getting hooked up.
Thanks for the tip. I called tmo and the rep put me on hold and asked the retention depth for me. Now I have the preferred android web only plan. He told me it was twenty bucks for five gig, but I must not sure what "web only"means. I hope it is the right plan.

I just got off the phone with customer care and they switched my data to the android preferred plan in about 30 seconds. Thank you very much for this tip!!!
Same here! At, first the rep told me that it was a "web only plan" with no minutes. I told the rep that I knew of others that had this plan and still had minutes as well. He asked about my device and we had a quick chat about the G2x and how I was going to switch to the sensation. After a few minutes of chatting he obliged and added the package for me!
5GB for 20 bucks?!?! Can't beat that!
No go for me.
I'm currently on a Family Classic 1000 Minute - Talk+Text for $79.99 and 2GB Data for $20.
I was told that the Android Preferred Plan (5GB for $20) is for customers that are on a newer plan that was just introduced 6 days ago. My "new" plan that was introduced in May, 2011, is not eligible and I will have to pay a ETF I wanted to change to the newest plan to benefit the Android Preferred Plan.
Anybody else run into this roadblock as well?
Thanks,
Anthony
I'm in a similar situation. Since they changed me to the new value plan for $59 and waived the $200 migration fee, they will only give me 5GB if I pay $25 for it, which is an additional $15 for me... I'm considering it strongly, though.

how'd you get the migration fee waived?
Has anyone been able to get the tmobile monthy 4g $30 plan from walmart without actually having to buy a phone at walmart?
If so, how?
Thanks!
This how i did it
I bought 30 dollar pay as you go plan in the store and put 30 dollars in credit on an account. they gave me a sim. I then called customer service and asked for the 30 dollar plan 5gb data unlimited text 100 min. I girl tmobile store told do it like that. The plan is only suppose to be for the walmart phones. I got it on galaxy nexus.
Simple, order the sim card by T-Mobile. Its one dollar. After that buy the $30 dollar card at Walmart(can be online)
Once you get your sim card you can insert it in the phone, then follow the instructions on the card or email if you bought it online. That's what I did. Monthly I just deposited $30 dollar to my T-Mobile account to refill my account. I been doing it for about 4 months
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
They used to just let you activate it on-line after using any pre-paid SIM card without having to do anything fancy. Not sure if they're still doing that since they've changed things around.
Would this prevent you from buying it if it's still locked just like the S5? (for Verizon and AT&T variants). Discuss
You know, I was just thinking the same today. I think since Samsung appears to not be using Qualcomm, they should be using the same Exynos processor on all variants. What that means is that there shouldn't be a huge issue whether you get the original or Tmobile version. More than likely AT&T version will have a locked bootloader. I would say wait until the phone gets released and see if it has it or not. Hopefully this locked boot loader wont make a difference from here on.
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I will never be fettered by Verizon or AT&T after spending my money on my own phone again. The only way they will get my money is through Straight Talk, and I'll buy my own device.
If you dont want locked bootloader then why not pay full price for 900$?
They'not forcing you buy locked version for only 200$.

The locked version isn't "only $200." That's just what you pay up front, but they collect the balance from you with every billing cycle for 24 months. In the end, no amortized phone is cheaper than a phone purchased outright.
And if you wait out the first couple months, the price always lowers to a sane level.

That's interesting because I have yet to see my bill go down or up depending on if I'm on contract or not. You say 24 months as if when that ends, poof you pay less. Or when you subsidize, bam you pay more. At least on vzw.

On AT&T right now, a Note 4 is $27.54 x 30 mo. = $826.20. Their 3GB mobile data plan is $65/mo. before taxes & fees, so probably ~$80 with. Over 2 years (and the remaining 6 mos. on the phone), that's $2,746.
Or I buy the phone outright for $630 unlocked and use Straight Talk (AT&T's equipment) for $45/mo. = $1,710, $1,036 cheaper. I can sell the phone when I get bored with it and still come out way ahead.
Edit
On Verizon, $300 for the phone and $80/mo. 2 yr. contact before taxes & fees (probably ~$100/mo.), so about the same as AT&T for 1GB less data.

That's the edge program (for Vzw) and is in place so that you can upgrade every 6 months. Which would void the 24 moth discussion. On a regular contract. You pay the 200 or 250 subsidized price.
Here's my plan. I have 5 lines, each line is 40 per month. 2 lines are still unlimited, 3 are 6 gigs. My plan is 80 a month. My Wifes company gets us a 15% discount. (i think) all in all I spend 193 a month. 3 lines are off contract ( obviously 2 are unlimited lines) and the price is the same as the on contract lines. I subsidized a droid turbo on launch, 64 gig for 180 (got a few discounts) sold it last weekend for 490. (wasn't happy with it) so I pocket 300 for a line I was going to be paying for no matter what. I have no intentions of leaving Verizon, so why not use the program that gets me a massive discount and no extra cost? So now, I take that 500, subsidize a s6 when it comes out, pay..250ish.. And basically I got the s6 for free..
How is buying the phone outright a better deal then that? Obviously it's situational. But for my situation it works

On any carrier besides Verizon both of those are in fact the case.
But then again, if you use Verizon you probably don't care about whether or not you're being screwed.

Like I said. Its situational. Generalizing it is fun, but doesn't make it fact. If I switched to tmoble today, who's coverage doesn't even come close to VZ in my area, I would pay 140 more per month, and I have to pay full price for the phones...yeah, I'll pass! Lol...situational!
My plan on Verizon:
- 15GB data: $100/month - 22% discount = $78/month
- 5 lines (no contract and/or EDGE): $40/line - $25/line discount for month2month = $200 - $125 = $75
- Insurance on 3 lines = ~$30
Total: ~$200-205 after taxes
Edit: What I'm trying to say is.... those 3 lines you have with no contract, you get $25/line off your bill. But most Verizon reps don't know about it, and will keep saying "that's only if you're on the Verizon EDGE program", its called the month2month discount, for not having a contract, and if a rep doesn't know about it, tell them to go ask their manager where the discount is located in their system.

I don't root anymore, so locked bootloaders don't have any effect on my decisions. But I wish rooting was more like the "good ole' days (htc hero - galaxy s3 days, and windows mobile before that).
it wont prevent me, but its sad that my bootloader is locked when the other carriers arent (vzw)

The essential phone is currently $145 on sprint!! Not a promo. This is the new normal pricing. This is basically a steal!!
Is there a way to buy it, pay off the contract and unlock? What would be the total cost? I am going to visit US in December and that might be a deal I am looking for, if possible.

You might want to go to the Sprint website and do a little more reading. The $5 x 18 months is a lease price. If you want to purchase it after your lease ends you still have to pay the difference between retail $699.99 and what you've paid in on the lease. The full retail price is listed as $699.99 as of a few minutes ago.

You might want to go to the Sprint website and do a little more reading. The $5 x 18 months is a lease price. If you want to purchase it after your lease ends you still have to pay the difference between retail $699.99 and what you've paid in on the lease. The buy out is 30.00(written on contract) for this phone as I did the lease (5.00X18) = STEAL:good:
To unlock the device if going this route you have to have the phone activated on their Network for 50 days

Nope, it's actually $145 (plus taxes) Activation can be waived through purchasing online, otherwise I believe it is $30 instore. $25 down, $5/month (flexlease) then a $30 payoff after the lease payments are complete. Yes you can pay the lease off early then payoff the phone. Getting it unlocked immediately after is a little more complicated/"hit or miss". Many people are able to unlock right after paying it off, others have been told they have to stay on Sprint for 50 days. You do have to upgrade/add a line or open an account.
But the price is confirmed and there is many accounts of this in the https://www.reddit.com/r/essential/ subreddit.

I just got this price on it last night, buying the phone through Best Buy.
I thought the buyout price was still $175 at Sprint stores or sprint.com, rather than the $30 that's showing up at Best Buy... but maybe not?
I had my phone paid for and unlocked within 12 hours of receiving.
25 down + 90 + 30 + taxes
I can verify first hand this is legit. View my post history where I went into more detail in another thread.
Okay I stand corrected. Online it still shows that info on the site. I guess they have a special "pay off" price.
Just signed up for this one. Phone should be here Tuesday. Contract shows $25 down, $5 a month for 18 months with buyout of $30. With taxes my total is $157.
I'll report back when I pay it off and any issues with it.

How did you get the phone unlocked? Chat on website or call support?

I didn't even have to deal with customer support. Paid off the phone, next day went to UICC unlock in the phone menu, it unlocked fine. Put in an AT&T sim to test out calls and data work just fine.

Don't worry if it isn't unlocked yet tomorrow either. Took mine two days after paying it off before I could do the UICC unlock, but it's been working great ever since.
I'm new in the US and i dont know how the contract works, i went to Sprint store to buy this and they told me that i'll have to get a plan with the phone which was 45$ a month. I wanna know if there's a way to get just the phone and not the plan. And if i have a friend who uses sprint, can i get the phone showing his plan and not getting any new plan?

You have to get the plan, but you can transfer it or cancel it anytime. What I did (as recommended by the internet) is the following: Get the phone and the $45 plan, pay off the lease, wait +-2 days until the phone is unlocked, then get this simcard off of amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B013OUS19E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You then transfer your sprint line to that simcard. Because it is a pay as you go sim you don't have to pay anything for it and can just let the number die, at the same time it will disappear from your sprint account and because the month wasn't over yet you won't be charged for it.
The only problem if you're new to the us might be your credit score. If you don't have one or it's low then I don't think they'll approve you for the lease.

You can buy the phone directly from essential website with no contracts. You can buy it from Amazon with no contracts. And you can buy it from Best Buy with no contracts. The price is $499.09 from essential and Amazon, and sometimes it's $449.00 at Best Buy.

Phone was locked right off the bat, online order. I popped in the Cricket sim before the Sprint with no luck. Popped the Sprint sim back in, let it register on the network and then called customer service. Pay off was $120 on top of the $37 i had already paid, so $157 total. Amount matched the lease with purchase price option (buyout)
Requested the phone unlocked for international travel and the agent put in the request and I have the confirmation #'s for ending the lease and the request for phone unlock. Told 3-5 business days for unlock. We will see how it goes. Plan to check the UICC button over holiday weekend.
