Using 100% of screen? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So this may be a stupid question, but as this is my first device with on-screen buttons (I've always had phones with hardware buttons like my last device, the HTC One)....
Will applications actually be able to use 100% of the screen, such as when gaming, or will the lower 10% (or whatever it may be) of the screen not be used since that is where the buttons stay?

Good question, and can I add to it and ask in Nova launcher anyway to get the wallpaper all the way down on the screen like it is on the N5 launcher?

Notification Shade Recent Apps

I think I know the answer....but I am hoping someone knows if there is a way to turn this off. It's so big. Hate it. As far as I can tell...its not optional.

Nope, can't turn it off.
not yet, give it time for the framework to be ripped apart. root and s-off have just arrived, patience
Agreed that it's a bit large, but I actually like the feature.
My biggest complaint with the TB (other than TFT vs SAMOLED screen) is the placement/arrangement of the capacitive menu buttons at the bottom of the screen. I don't have tiny hands, but they're not particular big either, so the size of the phone and the placement of the Home button make it just about impossible for me to use the phone with just one hand like I do my 4" phones. My thumb just can't reach the Home button when holding it in my right hand without risking dropping it, so it's difficult to do the long press to get the recent apps screen up. I can comfortably drop the shade and select from there, though, so I like it. Obviously a YMMV thing, and accessing the Home screens still takes two hands for me.
yeah, the recently used apps in the notification bar was poorly thought out. It's redundant as holding the home button does the same thing and isn't needed. If they were going to put anything up there, it should've been the quick toggles like the Galaxy S line of devices.
Yes...I also miss the quick toggle from Cyan....I still find myself pulling down the shade only to realize its not there.
And I miss being able to dismiss notification with a sideways swipe.....A LOT!

Check out Widgetsoid. It does what you want but takes a bit of setup
Couldn't you just use a different launcher like ADW? Or is it built into the framework? If so, what a turn off.

[Q] Home button takes me to the 3rd screen

Is there a way to configure this? I'd like to set it to the first screen.
actually the center screen
yes u r right. Now how do I set it to #1?
You don't

Isn't the 3rd screen the Home Screen? There are 5 screens in total.
The middle screen is the primary screen. The reason for this is because it is the least distance from all other screens (with a maximum of 2 swipes to any of the 5 screens). There is no way of configuring it in normal honeycomb settings as there is very little reason to other than if you have a background image you want to work well with all your main widgets and launch icons on a specific screen other than the middle one. As for trying something to change it you'd have to wait for ROMs or a launcher replacement with that kind of functionality built in (I am not aware of any with that functionality).
Looks like I will have to swap screens 1 and 3 then Is there a way to select multiple shortcuts and move them in one shot at least?

[Q] Q] What Exactly is a Lock Screen and a Home Screen?

Running ICS 4.04.
So, I want to know What Exactly is a Lock screen and the difference and the Home screen.
Why and how would you have 1 Screen.
And why are there 5 different screens? how do i make it to have 3 or 4?
Is Go Launcher a app which replaces the Home screen or the lock screen? ? if so how much RAM does it take?
Thank You
A lock screen is the first screen that comes up when you wake up your device, its to help prevent unwanted usage of or device such as pocket dialing. A home screen is where you will have all your apps and widgets. If you have an app such as go launcher or nova launcher, it will replace your stock home screen and allow you to choose different setups. Such as number of home screened or how many icons per screen. I believe they use very little system resources, no more than your stock launcher. Go launcher also has a ton of themes to make look completely different.

To answer unanswered qsns, u can just do a pinch in gesture get an outlook of all the home screens, long press on the one u wanna remove and it will show how to remove. And there are heavy launchers which take a lot of RAM. I don't think go takes a lot. May be around 30-40 mb. (not sure). If u have any lags, then try some other light weight launchers.! And go launcher is a launcher (of course, name says it all), there is go locker associated with go launcher for lockscreen.

Thank You both!! For helping me!
One last question,
Would it be possible to put a lock screen which wakes up, by touching the screen e.g 2-3 presses/tap on the screen or the volume button? rather than the orignal power button?
thank You

If the screen was actively on, touch sensors waiting, it would drain battery.
The volume keys can be configured to turn the phone on with some custom ROMs I believe like cyanogen

[Q] The software buttons on Android – are they customizable?

So with all the buzz around the new Xperia Z I am really impressed by it. So impressed I'm counting down the days until it becomes publicly available already. But I really dislike the software keys on Android as I'm just so used to the capacitive type and mapping them to whatever I so desire.
To be succinct about this – with a rooted Xperia Z will I be able to, for e.g. change the multi-task software button and make it a constant software menu button down in the control dock (if you will), similar to what I can do on the One X? I just tend to have all my quick apps on my first homescreen so I very rarely ever even use the built-in app switcher tiles and just go for the more conventional option of backing out to the home screen and then into what app I do so desire. Not to mention that having the menu button in all sorts of places on the display (some in the top right corner, others on the very bottom of the screen etc.) can get a little tedious and frustrating.
Thanks in advance.

Question Poco x3 pro woes (nav buttons hide under game mode)

Guys I'm new and hope this question has an answer. Apologies in advance if it's incorrectly placed or repeated.
So i have a poco x3 pro and I want to make the navigation buttons stay there forever.
Generally they are good but some apps and games take precedence and I have to constantly slide up from the bottom to make them appear.
I I've been into settings but the main issue is I play last shelter, the game is locked to full screen.
I don't use gestures or full screen mode and the buttons are great normally but I want to basically recreate a similar feature to hide notch but at the bottom, so only the nav buttons are there, maybe with the exception of using camera or films etc.
Therefore I suspect that the screen may need to be set to smaller so that there's nothing hiding under the navigation space. I don't care for the one handed screen resize feature either.
The game being full screen has tabs at the bottom so the navigation buttons do need to disappear in order to use the game.
So in a nutshell I want to permanently have the navigation buttons at the bottom and above them is the bottom of the screen even though the actual screen is the full size of the phone.
I actually can't believe this isn't something we can choose.
I came from the s5 and the op5 and I'm old fashioned and like the home, menu and back keys. I can live with the finger reader on the power button but my one handed use of the phone has be taken away from me.
Sorry for the long post but I'm coming up short so don't know where else to go.
Also the nav buttons go light or dim at random times.
Regards, Paul
Ps. I've done plenty of rooting over the years but always find that the time used and problems afterwards aren't worth it.
I will consider going this way with my poco if it will remove bloatware and clean it up. I only want battery life and relative performance, its a 249gbp phone I understand that and its fine as it is but I want the nav keys to act like they are hardware that's it.
Ideally no root and an app would be cool.
I did install a nav key app but it just masks what's there.
Mi forum said poco x3 pro isn't their product and couldn't help. Poco global seems like a link to Facebook.
Thanks all.
