I've been on Ting with my N5 over a month...works great!
You need to have a Sprint SIM (Ting sells them for $10). Then, just go to their pages and activate. If you're already on Ting...the best bet is to give them a phone call...they'll step you thru the process to activate.

I have been using TING on my N5 for a couple weeks.
TING is very good - but be cautioned that I am only running 3G - not getting LTE. This is a coverage issue though - and not a TING or N5 issue.
I was getting 4G on my E4GT - but with my N5 I am now getting worse data speeds as LTE is not in my area
One of the things I really like about the N5 and TING - is I can switch to AT&T or TMobile at any time if LTE doesn't come around on Sprint soon enough!
I've been on Ting for about a week now with my N5. They claim you can only use those bought directly from Google Play and you need to buy a Sprint SIM card (they'll sell you one for $10+tax which is pretty much at cost).
Mine works fine.. gets LTE and everything. Just keep in mind if you use voice or mobile data a LOT then Ting might not be your best choice.. but if you rarely use mobile data or voice (and are in a wi-fi area the vast majority of the time) you can save some serious coin.
I bought my g/f a Purple Galaxy S4 and she bought me a N5 for Christmas. I have both phones on the same Ting account (you can only use Galaxy S4 or HTC One phones that you actually bought from Ting). We text with them more than anything else and have wifi at home and at work and at most restaurants.. and for both phones looks like our bill this month is going to be well under $40 total.
Ting ran out of sim cards No restock till mid January and my N5 is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Really bummed

You can possibly pick up those cards on Ebay, I picked one up there and worked great. It is a Sprint Model: SIMGLW206R
I ended up finding a local Sprint repair shop that just gave me one when I asked nicely Love the N5... but I have the same service issues I did with the HTC One when it had a CM/AOSP/GE ROM installed. At this point I'll ride that out and see if it gets better or if I need to find a different provider.
I have recently received my Nexus 5 and I am looking to activate service with Straight Talk using an AT&T SIM card. I am wondering if there are any other Straight Talk AT&T users that can confirm that tethering is working properly on their Nexus 5. Also, is there any special configuration needed to safely run tethering undetected. I am planning to use FoxFi with serial key, PDANET+ and USB tether. In other words, does this configuration work on the Nexus 5?
Is there anyone with this setup that can help?

I'm using straight talk and I can confirm that the built in tethering app works. You don't need to use pdanet. I've tested it several times with my nexus 7. The only drawback I see is the 2.5gb throttle limit straight talk has.
Yeah, I can confirm it works, also. I don't use it a lot, so I don't know if ST monitors for heavy tethering usage.

Thanks for the confirmation guys. I am planning to try it out for a month and I am planning to test the tethering limits towards the end of the cycle; i'll post back if i learn something new.

As far as LTE, Straight Talk does supply LTE through AT&T on supported phones including the Nexus 5

Today I bought an At&t LG G3, sim unlocked it so i can use it with T-mobile.
So just wanted to let others know that At&t G3 works on Tmobile network and i do get 4G or 4G LTE.
You might be wondering why didn't i just buy Tmobile G3. well i have a contract with at&t that my family uses and i am using tmobile $30 plan unlimited data/text and 100mins prepaid plan which is perfect for me and one of my at&t line was eligible for upgrade so i upgrade it and paid $100+tax for the phone at BESTBUY. didn't want to pay $600 for T-mobile G3.

Unless you are grandfathered in on an Unlimited plan Verizon hasn't charged for tethering since mid 2012.

I received my Verizon Note 5 today. I'm on their current set of plans. I turned on the stock Wifi Tether and it worked.

with foxfi, can you still receive calls without interrupting the internet connection?
I'm about to go back to an android (note 5) from an iphone6 and with the iphone, when a call comes in, I loose connection. The iphone is jailbroken.
With my rooted g3 using another tethering app, i didn't loose connection when i call comes in.
Its not a really big deal, but it is nice to stay connected while being on the phone.
FoxFi works...no interruptions with the connection...only negative is the notification pop-up...trusted certificate... 3rd party may be monitoring warning.
So I want to get my hands on the new Oneplus 7Pro.
My only concern is, the Mobile Hotspot on this device. Does it come Carrier unlocked? I'm on Verizon & don't have it added to my plan. For example on my Nexus 6p I'm able to use the Mobile Hotspot feature to share my data with other devices. On my unlocked Google Pixel 2XL it tells me that I have to call my carrier to get this feature unlocked. Mind you this is not the Verizon Pixel 2XL. It's straight from Google. This is a hit & miss with unlocked phones that work on Verizon. Can anyone of you that have the Oneplus 7 Pro on the Verizon Network help with this matter?
Thanks!

I'm not looking into rooting the device in order for the mobile hotspot to work.
I need it to work right out of the box. That's why I'm seeking for assistance from someone who is using the device on the Verizon network. especially from someone that hasn't added the mobile hotspot service to their plan.

May depend on your plan. I have a newer unlimited plan with tethering included. I don't have to mess with the provisioning setting. Only have to tweak the throttle.

My plan does not include Mobile Hotspot tethering
That being said. With my experience that doesn't matter, a lot depends on the device if the Hotspot feature is carrier unlocked. Examples, my Nexus 6p works fine. Pixel 2XL it prompts me to call my carrier to get that feature unlocked. Galaxy S10 again no a single problem using the hotspot. Granted all of these devices are Carrier unlocked & can be used with all US Major carriers.

My understanding was that the old unlimited plans were now getting throttled as well for speed. If that is the case you might look at the new unlimited plans feature for feature and see if it's less money.
We have a bunch of lines so we only pay $40 per line for the base unlimited.

You still have to have them add the cdma less feature. Even lte only iPhones from att work on Verizon now when you have that feature.
