It might be the WiFi scanning. Go into settings, WiFi then click the menu button and click advanced.
There's an option that's ticked called WiFi scanning that scans for WiFi even with it turned off.

Thank you very much. Problem solved.

Wifi keeps turning on

All of a sudden Wifi turns itself on. Ironically it just turned on. Happens like 2-3 times a day. Even at night. WTF?

Settings - More settings under wireless and networks - mobile networks - last option. It's this checked?

Sorry I should have said that I'm on Verizon, which doesn't have that setting.

Verizon has the same thing. It's in a different place. Go to settings, Wi-Fi, and click advanced. You will see auto connect as the first option.

Yes Ok same option basically I guess, different location. But it's not checked. I have checked that let it run for a bit then unchecked and still wifi starts randomly.

I also did that a while ago. And I just double checked to make sure that location settings was not enabled.

Bump. I wish someone could figure this out cause I woke up this morning with my wifi turned on and I surely didn't turn it on last night

Bump again. Unfortunately I got the OTA this week. And even that didn't fix the WiFi turning itself on issue. I still can't find a pattern.

What you guys are doing is turning off WIFI Popup Notification. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776683
You need to also turn off Wifi Reminder if you have not done so already.
•You will need root
•You will need a SQLite editor
(Here's a link to a free one if you need it) http://code.google.com/p/xdroidx/dow...20Editor-9.apk
1.Open Settings Storage > db > secure
2.Search for “wifi_networks_available_notification_on” (Sometimes will be a different line numbers see attached)
3.Edit that record to read a value of 0 < (that's a ZERO)
4.Reboot your phone
This worked for me.. I did this to my phone on day one.:good:
Hope this helps

[Q] how to avoid sleep mode during the night?

During the night my HTC one s s3 goes into some kind of sleep mode, which turns off my internet or WiFi connection, preventing me to receive messages via Skype, gTalk... or emails. Is there any way to avoid going in this mode, some kind of "always on", I don't know... I couldn't find a setting for this, searched everywhere... Thanks in advance
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
If you go into advanced settings under Wi-Fi, you can tell Wi-Fi to never sleep. That should solve your issue?
Also, are you on stock?

Not the same thing. If I remember right this turns all data off and also does other things as well and the only fix I can think of is the tweak app that some roms have.
Stock 4.0.4 Europe. WiFi is set to never sleep (keep WiFi on during sleep >> ALWAYS) and it sleeps all right during the night. Any setting for 3G? I have an unlimited data plan, so it would be ok to keep it always on.
Edit: best WiFi performance is set off. Would this make any difference?

Don't think it will since its a power saver feature that you having issues with but like I said it can be turned off with custom rom.

That would be pretty annoying if I couldn't turn it off. It's for blind people. You must have turned it on when playing with the settings.
Go to settings, then Accessibility, then talk back, then the switch in the top right corner.

Have you tried to turn off the Whatsapp off under accessibility?
And by the way, S-Voice has nothing to do with the problem here. Its all got to do with some setting under accessibility.

[APP][4.0+][FREE] WiiiFixer for Jelly Bean - will make your connection stable

I've made this little app because I couldn't tolerate endless wifi disconnections (when a screen is off) on my Galaxy S2 after upgrading to Jelly Bean. I've tried many of wifi-repair apps, but none of them worked for me. This one works. Maybe it will work also for you. It can be also used with ICS.
what wifi problems are you talking about? the one where it disconnects itself after deep sleep?

Works great on my GS3 d2tmo thank you.
What? Thats actully a feature in JB that can be enable and disable in the advance setting of WiFi right? atleast on my S3 and NOTE 2.

This app holds wifi and multicast lock. This fixes wifi disconnections for badly written apps which don't hold a wifi lock.

Giving it a try!
Note: the disable notification button takes me to the settings-apps pane, i.e. to force-stop, uninstall, etc. Running 10.1 nightly on an LG P500.

This is expected behavior. Uncheck "show notifications" there and you're done.

Figured that much out. Does this app need/recommend persistent notification to be effective?

It needs to run in foreground and all android apps supposed to run in foreground must use notifications (it's forced by the android compiler). Of course if you switch the notification off (in jb only) it doesn't affect the app in any way.

WiFi bug? On/off

I was about to upload my screen shots into the battery thread when I realized that my WiFi had been used. But it's been manually turned off since the day I got the phone as you can see. You can check the screen shots. Any one have any ideas?

You have to go into the wifi settings and uncheck the always scan. Its under the advanced wifi settings.
Settings, wifi, advanced, "scanning always available" makes your wifi available for location purposes even if you have it "off" in settings. Do you have this box checked?
Go into WiFi settings and then go to advanced settings and disable "Scanning always available".

Strange, my always scan is off on my n4 and WiFi had been off all day at work. When I got home you could see where it had been on briefly throughout the day, not to concerned but I suspect always scan isn't being disabled fully when it's unchecked?

I had this exact same issue and was going to post on this 'bug'. It can really drain your battery over night! Luckily, unchecking the 'always on' feature under Advanced really did make the timer stop ticking.
Tell me about it. noticed this on 4.3 - its a battery killer
when you first login it says wifi will be scanned and used to better determine location even when off ... I clicked that permission off in my initial loading of the phone...curious if that is the issue?
Anyone have a problem were the music is playing but cant hear it sometimes ?
Mine has the same issue no matter what settings I use.
