During the night my HTC one s s3 goes into some kind of sleep mode, which turns off my internet or WiFi connection, preventing me to receive messages via Skype, gTalk... or emails. Is there any way to avoid going in this mode, some kind of "always on", I don't know... I couldn't find a setting for this, searched everywhere... Thanks in advance

If you go into advanced settings under Wi-Fi, you can tell Wi-Fi to never sleep. That should solve your issue?
Also, are you on stock?

Not the same thing. If I remember right this turns all data off and also does other things as well and the only fix I can think of is the tweak app that some roms have.
Stock 4.0.4 Europe. WiFi is set to never sleep (keep WiFi on during sleep >> ALWAYS) and it sleeps all right during the night. Any setting for 3G? I have an unlimited data plan, so it would be ok to keep it always on.
Edit: best WiFi performance is set off. Would this make any difference?

Don't think it will since its a power saver feature that you having issues with but like I said it can be turned off with custom rom.

My data plan usage is increasing little by little. I use the wi-Fi ONLY. I had 98 mb then all of the sudden I get a text message saying that I used over 65%(139mb). Then I woke up from 7 hour sleep, and it increased to 147mb...
I do not have unlimited data plan. I have 200mb plan. I'm scared that it will go over my limit. I don't want to pay extra 15$ for it when I'm not even using my plan.
I'm using
Rcmix
Stock radio
WiFi only and network disabled.
Help..

Personally, I would try flashing a new ROM and if the situation is the same, just go into airplane mode...

does that mean i can't call or text, or receive?
Right, I have a thought. Do you leave wifi on all the time? It may be going to sleep when the screen turns off. Settings> Wireless & network > wifi settings push menu and go to advanced settings and change the sleep policy.

Yep but you can still use WiFi

Also If the wifi is going to sleep when the screen goes off it could be background data. You can turn that off in accounts and sync

my wifi never goes to sleep, i enabled it to "stay on forever"
and if my phone did sleep and my wifi was turned off, it shouldnt use the background data because mobile network is off and there is no other way for my phone to connect to any other network.
ill try flashing to a new rom if my Data plan increases again.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the wifi not staying connected while within a wifi network anytime the phone goes to sleep, or shows both wifi & data connection active at the same time? It seems to disconnect the wifi when phone goes to sleep and when I wake the phone, it goes through the connection process and stays at obtaining the IP address for +/-15mins. Is this an isolated issue or is it a common thing with all non official GB custom ROM 's? Just to note, I changed the wifi scan interval from 15 sec - 120 sec after I flashed the ROM. Been on the ROM now for about a week and a half and so far this is the only thing I noticed as strange. Overall this ROM rawks!!!

So when set to persistent, how much battery will it be consuming with that setting?

Not sure specifically.. But you can set it by location.. Like, if your on your home network, or at the office. I usually don't pay attention to the power it uses because I use the setting for home and im always by a charger..

All of a sudden Wifi turns itself on. Ironically it just turned on. Happens like 2-3 times a day. Even at night. WTF?

Settings - More settings under wireless and networks - mobile networks - last option. It's this checked?

Sorry I should have said that I'm on Verizon, which doesn't have that setting.

Verizon has the same thing. It's in a different place. Go to settings, Wi-Fi, and click advanced. You will see auto connect as the first option.

Im having the same problem. Im on verizon as well and i never use wifi cause I have the unlimited plan but it still turns on randomly. I dont have anything checked for wifi to automatically turn on. I even user anycut and made the shortcut for that sprint optimizer and it wasnt checked. I have a friend that has the same problem on Verizon too

Yes Ok same option basically I guess, different location. But it's not checked. I have checked that let it run for a bit then unchecked and still wifi starts randomly.

Try *#6335623# on your phone pad to turn the WiFi notification to off.
See if that works?

Bump again. Unfortunately I got the OTA this week. And even that didn't fix the WiFi turning itself on issue. I still can't find a pattern.

What you guys are doing is turning off WIFI Popup Notification. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776683
You need to also turn off Wifi Reminder if you have not done so already.
•You will need root
•You will need a SQLite editor
(Here's a link to a free one if you need it) http://code.google.com/p/xdroidx/dow...20Editor-9.apk
1.Open Settings Storage > db > secure
2.Search for “wifi_networks_available_notification_on” (Sometimes will be a different line numbers see attached)
3.Edit that record to read a value of 0 < (that's a ZERO)
4.Reboot your phone
This worked for me.. I did this to my phone on day one.:good:
Hope this helps

does anyone know of a "sniffer" program to find the process that's keeping a wifi lock, and therefore preventing my phone from going into true deep sleep? once i turn wifi off, i can see from the cpu states page in better battery stats that it's going into deep sleep. but as long as wifi is on, it won't. thanks in advance!
wild guess, maybe your mobile data is set to "always on" in your network settings. Also, have you enabled power efficiency in power settings? Maybe give that a go mate

On my captivate i had an app that would disable the screen without sleeping the phone, good for keeping wifi, gps, etc running... wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to accomplish this
Thanks

Wifi does still run while the phone is asleep if you have the setting on always to keep wifi on during sleep. It's in the advanced settings for wifi
