[Q] Activate screen with Swipe Up

Hi, a friend of mine just switched to the N5 from the iphone. He's looking for the ability, similar to the iphone, to swipe up on the screen when the screen is off to turn it on. Is this possible with the N5? I haven't seen it mentioned so I'm guessing it isn't an option. Thanks.

I also googled it but came up empty too. Guess I miss understood him, will check with him tomorrow. Thanks.
Yeah the iPhone definitely doesn't have that capability, at least not without some serious jailbreak hacks. Maybe he's just pressing the home button on accident when he 'swipes'.
IPhones don't have it. I'm 100% sure. But android does. You can slide across the screen or double tap to turn it on with faux kernel or Nexus Touch control (doesn't wok with the nexus 5 yet)

Are you saying that these kernels will eventually support it for Nexus 5?
I'm currently using Faux but I don't see that functionality anywhere.

Not yet, but it's possible it will support it in the future.
Yea... i used to use an iPhone (owned a 3GS and 4 before switching to Android with the Motorola Atrix) and never saw such a feature with those. Can't imagine that being something Apple would do. Unless, of course... Google decides to do it at some point. Then maybe Apple will do something similar 3 years prior.

Yeah. Pretty soon the kernel devs are going to start implementing those features just like in the N4.
Went back to my friend and told him the feedback. He forgot it was his BB Z10, not the iphone so that clears it up. Still would be a nice feature.

KITKAT Update

Hey guys,
I wanted to share my experience with my note 3( from India )
Its amazing phone. After using for about a month, Note 2 seems bulky and FAT
Note 3 looks stylish
Now about Kitkat update. I got it yesterday it was OTA update.
The battery backup has gone amazingly wild.
It used 50% battery overnight with wifi on, BUT now it spends on 20% WOOooooowwwwwww!
And in my normal usage battery went to about 15% till the evening, when after the update it is still about 60% left
I love the KITKAT, Overall Speed seems to have doubled in response.
Apps open in almost half the time.
Thats it.
Share your experience too
How come that you missed any of already active kitkat threads?

imagine what would happen if you would try a custom rom (xnote) and a custom kernel (civz)

[Q] [FIXED] Camera sound Nexus 5 horrible after update 4.4.3

Hi there,
Recently i've updated my Nexus 5 to Android 4.4.3. (from stock 4.4.2 rooted)
Every time after updating to 4.4.3 my camera sound is horrible (like it's recording underwater).
I've used zip files (after wiping) to flash without any succes.
When i used my backup of 4.4.2 the problem was gone again. So the hardware isn't broken or anything.
Now i've sideloaded the official factory image (4.4.3) after a full wipe and still the problem exists.
How is this even possible? Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks for helping in advance
PS: i've contacted Google but their e-mail in bad translation didn't help me. They told me to do a factory reset lol

This works on stock Android 4.4.4 on Nexus 5. Nobody but yourself is responsible if you brick your own phone.
Credits to these guys!
Same here... It's software bug. I've tried everything but sound is still horrible.

Thanks for your reply man! I really thought i screwed up my phone somehow without knowing it.
Do you know by any chance if there is a way to fix this? This topic was hard to google/search since I only got stuff about the previous camera bug. Or maybe my "tech English" isn't sufficient.
The issue is ongoing. We thought 4.4.3 was going to fix it but evidently not. There are no other real fixes

I never had this issue on previous android versions and I've had my Nexus shortly after the release. I honestly think this is a new bug but I could be wrong.
If there are no fixes I need a new phone or my money back.

The noise cancellation bug has been around since day 1, when I got my N5. Not everyone notices because it acts differently depending on the environment the videos are recording in. It also effects calls.
There's no fix right now. Try and get your money back if you like.

Yes, this is new bug, no discussion. I've made more than thousand vids with my N5 so I'm familiar with "old" sound bug, but this new one wich came with 4.4.3 is much worse than issue from previous one and make my Nexus completly useless as camera.. It sounds like underwater.

It's the same bug alright. I have no doubt. Perhaps it sounds different to you on your phone because they made it worse.
I can say with a strong degree of certainty that it is the same bug though, because the "old" bug you refer to was due to a poor noise cancellation issue. This bug went away for me when I fitted a slickwraps skin that covers my noise cancellation mic. ...and after upgrading to 4.4.3, I still don't have any issues whilst that secondary microphone is covered. My videos are as expected.

It's much worse that it was.. As I said, my Nexus is now useless as digital camera.. Or it was useless, because I've flashed 4.4.2 again.

Yeah maybe it is much worse but I'm confident it's the same bug never-the-less

So this bug is there since the beginning? How is it possible that multiple users experience the same problem after updating to 4.4.3?
I think it's a similar bug, but new.
Going to flash 4.4.2 again cause I need my camera.
I've sent another email to Google. I'll put the reply here.
Thanks for all the replies everyone! Hope someone finds a solution.

It's the same bug but worse. @zaykos shared with me one of his videos and I can confirm it sounds the same as pre-4.4.3 video's I've seen. It's not a new bug.

I'll probably have to return my phone, wait couple of weeks and get a replacement. Sucks.. Thanks Google!:good: :silly:

But how come it wasn't there on my 4.4.2 or as you described it, wasn't hearable?
I am a music producer. I always use my phone to film my latest creations to send them to friends via whatsapp. Never had any issues. First was good, now it's absolutely useless. I film exactly from the same spot in my studio. There should be a way around to get the sound back from 4.4.2 right? Some custom rom or whatever?
Thanks for all your answers man!

iOS Emojis

Has anyone found a way to get iOS Emojis on the s8 without root yet?
I'd like to know this as well. Samsung's Emoji are way too ugly.
Ya id like to know as well
I'd love to see the standard Android emoji, I got really used to it with years of Nexus phones.
Use Textra and download the ios emoji addon. Also, get a keyboard that supports the iOS versions - Fleksy for instance.

Go here no root required https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74673201&postcount=610
If you are already rooted then I have a way for you. Download emoji changer on the playstore. Switch emojis and stuff.
Now what you want to do is download root switcher and turn off root and flash stock without doing a factory reset and you should be set. Not sure if this works for yall but it did for me.
G955u1 phone charges to 100% amd still have ios emojis 11.1
