Is anyone else having issues with their Nexus 5 not finding their 5ghz Wifi network?
My N7 does have some issues however if I toggle the airplane mode on it, it will find and connect the 5ghz network.
However, on the N5 toggling airplane mode, restarting the phone, nothing seems to find it.
The network is not hidden, though did try just entering the WiFi information to the phone to give it a try and it still didn't find or connect.
I downloaded Wifi analyzer and it won't find the network either.

My N5 wouldn't detect my wifi signal at home. I changed the wifi channel on the router from 13 to 11, then the phone could see it fine.
After doing this, I recall having exactly the same problem last year with the N4 (before I sent it back).
I use channel 13 normally because there's less interference from surrounding wifi routers in my street, but for some reason Nexus phones don't like it :-/

Using channel 13 is a big no, no as it will cause interference in 2,483.5–2,500 MHz which is highly restricted by the FCC.
Also, using channel 13 does not negate co-channel interference from channels 9, 10, 11, 12, either.
The only channels you should ever use for 802.11 2.4GHz band should be 1, 6, 11 - In other markets, channel 14.
I'd recommend the app called wifi analyzer and find the channel that has the highest dBm rating out of 1, 6 and 11 and use it.

I know you said it is not hidden but - sometimes the SOHO devices will seperate the SSID's 802.11N between the 2.4 and 5 band in the settings so I'd say double check them. Also, the wifi analzyer will not pick up a network unless it is sending SSID beacons.

The 20 and 40mhz is the bandwidth you'll use - the 20 will be the slower one as you have less RF to pass data over.
You're not alone. Mine doesn't see my 5GHz network either, just my 2.4GHz. I've restarted router, restarted phone, no avail. I have my channels set to automatic.
Same here. The phone initially saw the 5GHz WiFi upon the first start up, but after the initial update, it cant see it anymore.
EDIT: So I loaded WiFi Analyzer and went into settings. I noticed that the some "available" 5 GHz channels were selected: 36, 40, 44, and 48. I set my router to channel 44 (5220 MHz), lower channel extension, dynamic channel width, N/A mixed and the phone can see it again. However, there is only one bar (it's always low on this router anyway).
I only get 1 or 2 bars on 5ghz vs 4 on 2.4ghz

As of now, it looks like it won't connect to UNII-2 5GHz channels (channels 52-140), which require the use of DFS. Can anyone see if they can use UNII-3 Channels? 149-165?
Is ANYONE having success connecting to any channels 52-165??? I'm curious if this is a SW or HW related issue.

For what it's worth, I set my TPLINK TL-WDR3600 v1 w/ DD-WRT 5GHz radio to Channel 149 (5745 MHz), N/A Mixed, Dynamic width, upper extension channel and I was *successful* seeing and connecting to the AP.

So, my next thing to find out.
Does a client (The broadcom) chip have the ability to see if DFS is used or not used? If so, the device may not allow you to use it since those channels on UNII-2 are supposed to be limited to only using those channels if it is used.
This may be what is to come due to the FCC coming down on 802.11AC and mimo as of late.
I guess the next question is. Does anyone have DFS on their 5Ghz capable home router device? If you turn it on, I believe you may be able to use those channels. (Theory)

Again for what it's worth, I enabled "radar detection" in the advanced settings of the 5GHz radio in dd-wrt for my router and set the frequency to auto. It settled on channel 36 and I did connect.
I don't know if the router is DFS enabled and if dd-wrt properly enabled it. Is there a way of prompting the radar detection to force a channel change?

I read up on the settings - Enable radar and auto channel for DD WRT - Now is there a way to force it to change? If you had another device capable of broadcasting on 5Ghz, I imagine it may be possible.

<grin> I thought of that. I have another 5GHz access point and tried to bump out the DFS(?) router. I set the same frequency on the interfering AP and then re-applied the first radio's settings. The first AP settled on a different frequency. I tried bumping it again, and it *appears* as if it settled back to the original frequency. However, I can reapply the settings without changes and I don't always return to the same frequency. Also, my Nexus 5 can't find it when it's on 36 (where it settled) so I'm back on 149 fixed for now.
Update - Turns out that my second AP auto-selected 36 which explained why it masked the first AP's signal. Now they are both happily separate (36 and 149).
Hope this helps, but it's not terribly scientific.
I decided to keep playing around with the settings and apparently putting the WiFi on channel 161 seems to have done the trick.

So I got my setup working. I've got two routers and offset them with channels 161 and 165. I'll have to see how this shakes out over the next week to see if I'm dropping connections on any of the devices...

by all accounts it appears as a new SW restriction as of Lollipop official release, since my n5 could connect to any channel in 5GHz band (EU regulatory domain, so only channels 36,40,44,48,52,56,60,64,100,104,108,112,120,128,132,136,140) on every 4.4.x release and on first 5.0 dev preview (i didn't try installing any other builds). 20mhz/40mhz/80mhz wide, does not matter, all were working just fine (nexus5 is 40mhz capable though). Right after flashing release version of 5.0 posted on google images I am not seeing any DFS channels anymore, so only 36,40,44,48 are there, since I'm in Europe. But that explains why some of you see 149-165 channels in US for example, since they do not require DFS scanning. Enabling DFS scanning for testing purposes on those lower channels (36-48 for ex) makes no sense, since there are no military or weather radars in this space and regulatory bodies do not require it anyway.
This is a pretty bad move from the google side, since while home users don't really care about switching their home routers back to non-DFS channels, in the enterprise world those phones are going to use 2.4Ghz primarily, since nobody is going to adjust the network when someone decides to block a spectrum on some clients. Now considering the fact that 802.11ac is 5GHz only, why would you buy a phone 802.11ac capable that doesn't support most of the 5GHz spectrum?
Hope to see the change in the upcoming update if any.

I've had this amazing tablet for 2 weeks now but sadly I seem to have an infuriating Wi Fi issue.
It connects fine
The reception is excellent
When I download large files (ie the data for a game), the network just drops out and reconnects. When I'm not downloading anything sizeable, it's fine.
Any ideas?

Is "Power Saving" on? If so, turn it off. Other than that, maybe it's your router? I haven't had the same issue with my Note 10.1, either at home or on the road.

Try changing the channel on your router. Usually 1 and 6 are the best.

So - it continues - I've tried all the channels on my router now (BT Home Hub 3) and it still disconnects when downloading large files only. Power saving is off also!
I phoned Samsung - they didn't know and said that it was mostly likely a rare faulty unit. So - I've taken it back to the shop and I've just been given a brand new one.
Guess what. SAME THING! Grrr. So it can't be the device, it must just be a weird incompatibility with my router? Any other ideas or know of any apps that might help me resolve this?
The only other thing is to wait for the JB upgrade and hope that fixes it :/
Right further developments - when I connect to a hotspot like starbucks (where the connection speed is limited), I can download HUGE files and it never disconnects.
So therefore either the Note 10.1 doesn't like an 85mb connection or it's the only device in my house that hates my router....
Annoying though! Still would appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

I've actually slowed the router down from wifi b/g/n to just b/g and now the tablet works perfectly fine.
So obviously there's an issue with the wireless-n on the note because all my other devices work fine at this rate.
I hope JB will fix that.
I have no issues with the Wi-Fi on this tablet, I'm quite pleased with the dual band.

Since you are the only one to have this problem it's obviously not an issue with the note.

Yeah, sounds like something with the N implementation of your router not getting along with the Note. I have a Netgear N300 router I bought in the spring, and the Note has no problems running on it in N. I get blazing fast speeds, and haven't had problems with file transfers of any size (I've moved a few 1.5GB movies over the network to it).
Is your current router an older model? Many of them were labelled "draft-N", and the implementation may not be totally correct for N devices. Also, try updating your router firmware if possible, and if that doesn't work give one of the alternative router firmwares (Tomato or DD-WRT for example) a try.

Thanks - well this is the funny thing. When N is on, it connects perfectly and until it 'conks out' it downloads at an incredible speed. Then reconnects!
The router is a British Telecom special and sadly I'm kind of locked to it as it's not a standard ADSL model, rather a fibre optic one and they don't come easily in the UK (afaik). It's not draft-N either...it's just a final implementation of N!
The wireless has a 40Mhz option with N but that seemed to do the same. It's only when I knock N out it's alright.

I have the exact same issue. Only drops out at N speeds with large file transfer. Starts off fine, getting great speeds of almost 4 mb / s, but then just stops.
If I switch n file transfer off, it works fine, but at much slower speeds around 1 mb / s
I am using a zoom 5350 cable modem / router - the firmware is updated by the cable supplier which is Comcast.
Anyone have any ideas here? I also returned my first note to as I thought this was a hardware flaw, but new one I got yesterday does the same.

Update - shockingly, unplugging the cable modem / router and powering it back up now has transfers working at full n speed with no dropouts. Software glitch with the cable companies firmware update perhaps that reset??
Anyway, after having a good 25 attempts drop out before this, every attempt has worked fine since power on/off of modem/router.

Strange problem following my OTA lollipop update yesterday. My (UK WIFI version) Shield tablet is unable to detect my router's 5ghz signal. Kit Kat had no problems and all my other devices can still see it fine. I have also tried changing the settings on my router to see if Lollipop is more fussy about frequency/band etc, but still no joy
Anyone else having strangeness with this? Or is it just me?

I flashed the US ROM last night, and during setup it took maybe an additional 20 seconds before the 5ghz routers (including mine) to show up in the list. 5ghz has always been kinda weird for me though. On a few occasions I've had to disable WiFi, wait 10 seconds, then restart so that the tablet will connect.
I also have the UK wifi version, and my tablet even connected first to the 5ghz network, I was actually surprised.
No issues here with 5ghz wireless.

It's very odd, because I run wifi analyzer at home and it doesn't show my 5ghz network at all, yet in the office it does show the 5ghz one.
It was working before the update and all my other devices can still connect fine, so a real mystery

Upon further inspection, it appears the only 5ghz channels that work are the first couple in band A (36 - 48) Nothing else seems to work.
Can anyone else confirm this behaviour? Try using a 5ghz channel other than 36 - 48
Band A : 5150 - 5350 MHz (channels 36 - 64)
Band B: 5470 - 5725 MHz (channels 100 - 140)
This is pretty rubbish if this is the case, as the band B channels allow a higher output and give me a much stronger signal in my house

I can only connect when I use channels 36-48, Band A UNII 1. Can't even detect the AP with WiFi Analyzer on the shield if I go above 48.
Using the non-US 32GB LTE version in the EU, btw, same frequencies are allowed here as in the US.

Sorry, you're right 48 does also work.
So that's confirmed then, they have for some reason heavily limited the 5ghz channel selection! I wonder why?
It's not a hardware limitation as it was working fine with KitKat, so I wonder whether it's possible to get the other channels unlocked?
Just to be sure, ClownShoes, does channel 140 work for you? I can't test this because my fritzbox router doesn't have an option to change channel width to 20MHz, and channel 140 isn't available to me for this reason.
Same problem for me here. No 5ghz detected when my Xperia Z1 Compact detect it . Even Wifi Analyzer can't see it . I restarted my tablet & stuff, nothin' . I'll try to make a nandroid backup, make a fresh install and I will see the result.
Same problem for me here with my samsung galaxy note 3 32 gb(sm-n9005). If I restart router phone view and connect to 5 GHz. When phone leave coverage are for same hours when come back don't see 5 Ghz wireless. This is strange because I have another phone with windows which work perfect. I will try to change wireless channel if don't work, I thing serious to go back at android 4.4.2
Update: I changed channel from auto to 48 and works.
Just dropping in to say I had the same issue: I had my router on channel 112 and the Tablet wasn't even seeing it.
Switched to 48 and everything works fine now.
Same issue here, hoping Android 5.1 fixes this silly issue. I was wondering why i couldnt see the 5Ghz network at channel 140, 80mhz. had to bring it down to channel 48.
US wifi version here. 5.1 Lollipop, stock rooted.
I can connect to channel 149 with turbo mode (40MHz channel width) & the upper Extension channel, but WiFi analyzer shows my router is broadcasting on channel 153. I tried so many other channels & combinations but this is as high up as I could go & have the tablet connect. It did, however, see channel 161 but got an authentication error & wouldn't connect with the router.
So, back to 149. The signal is slightly stronger & have better throughput than channel 48!
On a side note...I use 5GHz here in this LARGE apartment complex because everyone here is on Verizon FIOS or Cox Communications, so Wi-Fi Analyzer sees 17 (give or take a few for signal strength or weakness) access points around my place & the 2.4 band is completely choked up! There is only 1 other router close by on 5GHz, so using that band is the only option for wireless internet here. I don't use Verizon's wireless AP. They only have 2.4 wireless, no 5. My Netgear simultaneous dual band router is plugged into the back of their cable modem & my Netgear is on 192.168.2.1. That way I can use DD-WRT & my own router instead of theirs for wireless. Easy-Peasy!:good:
I have the same issue. After switching my channel from 100 to 40 the 5GHZ wifi showed up on (two) shield tablets just fine
I believe the SHIELD Tablet only supports United States Non-DFS channels, so 36-48 and 149-165. I personally have mine on Channel 149 and 80MHz bandwidth.
Anyone having problems with WiFi? My phone seems to easily disconnect from WiFi with the excuse of "Avoided poor internet connection". And it seems to have become worse after the v15e update. My phone is the H959 model from Singapore.

It happens on any network. I was on holiday in the US, and it kept dropping the connection. I thought it was just because hotel WiFi are just ****ty in general, but it happened at home and at work too.
The WiFi at home is an ASUS RT-AC68U, and I'm connected to the 5 GHz channel, and channel congestion is not a problem. 2.4 GHz is congested a lot, but the disconnect happens on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Most of the time, I would pick up the phone, and try to access a website and it would take forever. After a while it would say "Internet connection unavailable at *wifi name*". Then after a reconnect it usually works, and loads the page instantly.
At work, I'm wearing an Android Wear watch and installed the network change notifier, so every 10 minutes or so, my watch would tell me that I have disconnected from the WiFi and after 5 minutes it will connect back again... Signal strength is excellent, channel congestion is horrible, but it shouldn't disconnect that many times.

You seem to have a good rooter. With all my >snapdragon 800 phones and tablets wifi works perfect .
Connection between phone and router is 433mbps. Before you hard reset your phone try to change channel . And try to keep your connected devices at minimum 2 or 3. You can also try pseudo static ip instead of dhcp

Connection between phone and router is 433mbps. Before you hard reset your phone try to change channel . And try to keep your connected devices at minimum 2 or 3. You can also try pseudo static ip instead of dhcp

All my other devices, be it computers, tablets, older phones, do not have this problem. The problem I face is really similar to this thread below:

I suspect it is due to a setting that is found in KitKat to "Avoid poor connections" but that is not found here. When doing a speedtest.net I can get 200+ mbps, so speed is not a problem. My phone just doesn't like to stay connected... Probably will try a hard reset, just need to backup my data.
Hi, I have mi note 10 pro, currently on global 11.1.3.0 (stable, no root) since ota about a week ago. I have started getting an issue where wi-fi randomly stops communicating with my router (5g network) and I have to turn wifi off and on to get it working.
Router is fine as no other devices have this problem, I have rebooted router and assigned static ip, to no avail. I have tried a factory reset on the phone and also tried all settings relating to wi-fi on the phone that I can find including ones in developer options but problem persists.
Was just wondering if anybody else is having this issue or has a fix, thanks in advance.
Hello, you could tell us you router brand, model, channel, etc. I have a Mi Note 10 Pro and I havent observed a problem (apart from the max throughput being slow, sway lower than what I have with a Mi 9T Pro). I sometimes switch from one routeur to another and there are differences in performance but not a lot. I have ASUS RT-AC68U, Mikrotik wAP ac and the frequency spectrum here is almost desert. The Mi Not 10 is running xiaomi.eu 12.1 20.7.9.
Im on 11.1.2.0 and yesterday at night randomly started the same issue like you described.
For two hours had the problem but till now morning didn't appear again..
noticed the same 2-3x times on the LITE.
the wifi icon is still active and it tells me, that iam connected.
but theres no traffic anymore. websites dont open or anthing else is online.
after wifi turn off/on, it works again.
it was on a tp-link router with 5ghz.
Yes that's the same issue I have, after two days messing with my router settings and reflashing it, and testing with no difference, I deleted the network on phone and re added it and it seems to have sorted its self out for now.
No didn't work after all, started doing it again, going to try 2g wi-fi network for awhile and see if it is only 5g related.
Yeah this is definitely an issue with the phone, 2g network works fine. Have also just discovered that when the traffic stops on my 5g network and I go into wi-fi settings, the phone can no longer see any other networks available, including my 2g network and all neighbouring networks, it still shows the 5g network its connected to but not transmitting to. As soon as I turn wi-fi off and on all the available networks appear again, this must be an update issue as was fine before last update.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to send a bug report to developers?
You don't even mention if your phone has a sim card and if mobile data is active.
Have you tried in Airplane mode (with wifi on) ?
What are your settings under WLAN assistant ? (I have both options off).
Running dual sims, same problem with wi-fi 5g, data on or off. WLAN settings are off, have tried with on as well, same problem. Haven't tried in airplane mode as use work sim and need it on for emergency call outs, so turning off not really an option or solution, can I ask why you think sims or data could cause an issue with the wi-fi, thanks.

It would be a way to test wifi only with the least possible other things that could interfere (I was thinking of bluetooth and auto switching from wifi to LTE data). Maybe you could test for just a few hours or put your SIMs in another phone temporarily.
its also happening without bluetooth active and iam using only one sim.
2,4ghz does work 100% without issues.
Ok I see, but not sure that would be the problem, as I always have Bluetooth off and data off and get the problem, will try to test on airplane mode late at night, as no spare phone, just a pain as some times the issues happens within a few minutes of selecting 5g network and some times takes a few hours! So might take a while to test properly, but will give it a go, thanks

Do you have access to your router / access point logs where disconnections may appear ?
I've checked in my router's log and the only references of my phones are daily DHCP renewal.
Here are the 5 GHz parameters of my router that work well for my phones (and everything else). But I am located far from a city and seem to be the only one using this frequencey here. Maybe someone is using the same frequency / channel near you. You may try a change.

That's the problem, the router still shows the phone as connected and the phone also says its connected, its just that the traffic stops, there are at least ten other devices using the same router with no problems on the 5g network and the phone was working great for months before last update. I will try and change channels later tonight when everybody is off the network, thanks
Changing channels did nothing, have submitted a log through the bug report feature you can get to in update settings, guess I'll just have to wait for an update.
Just got the miui 12 update and wi-fi problem still happening, looks like I'll be getting a new phone soon!
I had the same problem with Android 10 on many different phones, and I discovered the following fix which works reliably.
Nearly all routers use a "combined" mode where they use the same Wifi SSID for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, and the device can pick which one it connects on. This is usually good on most devices, phones, laptops, Macbooks, smart TVs, etc. But only on Android 10 phones I've found that the device gets confused. It starts in 2.4Ghz mode and midway kind of forgets about it and switches the same WiFi connection to 5Ghz mode (or vice versa). Traffic simply appears to hang up with no packet reply – because the phone is suddenly expecting response in the newly switched band, whereas router is still assuming connection on the other band. I believe it has something to do with the Intelligent Wifi hotspot selection feature in Android 10. Also I've seen that Android 10 in many cases defaults to the lower bandwidth 2.4Ghz band rather than the higher bandwidth 5Ghz connection, which makes bandwidth slower.
The simple fix is to login to your router, and configure a different SSID for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. All routers let you do this. So you'd call 2.4Ghz SSID as, say, "MySSID" and the 5Ghz SSID as "MySSID5G". Connect your device to the 5G band, and everything is reliable and probably faster than before since your phone is no longer connecting to the slower 2.4Ghz band!

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately my router is already configured as you suggest and the problem still happens.
I've also 5ghz only mode enabled.
problem is still there.
Anyone found any fix for this ? Mi note 10 on miui 12, having issues with both 2.4 and 5ghz networks...wifi icon seems to be connected, but apps don't load. Tried everything, combined networks, only 2.4, only 5ghz, different routers, etc. Very frustrating issue.

Same issue. I've got an S22+ that's not seeing WiFi 6E networks. I know 6E on S21 series was flaky and not particularly well supported, but I (mistakenly) assumed these issues would be ironed out with the S22 series. Are there phone settings or router settings that need to be applied to get 6E to work?
Tried messing with channel bandwidth (160mhz, 80mhz etc) and wifi channel (most 6E routers have 12 different options between 37 & 213) and no luck so far...
@losonn, what country are you in? The 6E band must be approved in your country and Samsung must have updated the firmware to enable it in your country. You have to also confirm your WiFi AP is broadcasting 6E and not disabling it for the same reason.
I'm in Canada and Samsung didn't enable 6E bands on the phone until last month's update even though Canada approved the bands late last year. But last month I got the update and was finally able to connect to 6E on my Canadian S22U. See the picture below, the WiFi icon says "6E" on it.

US. My router is definitely broadcasting 6E. Several of my other 6E devices are successfully connected to the 6E network (ie. laptop with AX210). It's just my S22+ that can't see it.
I tested yesterday with an Aruba 635 AP and it works fine with an S908E in Australia.

If you're in the US, it should work fine. I would try a different 6GHz channel. What other options do you have enabled on your WiFi network? And make sure you're close enough to the AP for the phone to see the network, 6GHz distance is not that far.

I've tried different 6Ghz channels - no luck. The S22+ can't see the 6Ghz network five feet away from the router.

Security is WPA3- Personal. Router is Asus ET12 and only other 6ghz security setting option is enhanced open. Channel bandwidth is set to 160mhz for full speed - all other settings are on auto.
Are you saying that S22 series has issues with WPA3 and that this might be the issue?

No, WPA3 is the only supported mode with WiFi 6E, so just making sure your settings are correct. My WiFi 6E network that the S22U connects to is WPA3-Personal too.
Are you running any mesh network? Have you tried connecting to the main node? Make sure you try only alphanumeric name or password for the network.
Anyhow reading online it seems many are having issues with Asus WiFi 6E and S22 series. It could be a firmware incompatibility that either Asus or Samsung has to fix. Not sure if there's a solution for you right now other than trying a different router/AP that is known to work with the S22 (since there doesn't seem to be any other settings you can change on the ASUS).

I'm using a single ET12 (1-pack) not the ET12 2-pack or any other mesh setup. So this isn't the node issue I've seen mentioned elsewhere.
I'll try resetting the ET12 and setting the network up again from scratch to see if that has any effect.
I am having issues too with S22U and Eero pro 6e. Sometimes I can get a connection to 6e, but often it will just disconnect and give me password errors. Incorrect password. Then connect a bit later to wifi 6. Maybe it's issues with WPA3 on the s22u?

By default, 6GHz WIFI channel on Deco is not enabled. 6Ghz band is used as "Dedicated Backhaul" only. You need to enable the 6Ghz WIFI by selecting "WIFI Network & Backhaul" option in the Deco 6Ghz setting.
