Alarm Clock Extreme.apk
Does it matter, I tried few APKs, no luck
well some require root, some are system apk etc.
did you change the setting to allow apps from unknown sources?
They also may not be updated to work with 4.4
Yes i tried both tick or untick, but installbutton is not clickable.
could be kitkat.
can you try to install some apk?
thanks
Are you running some app that dims the screen or provides an overlay of some sort ? Turn that off if so.
Have you enabled 'unknown sources' option in security settings?

Because this is a common problem. LOL. It has been a 'safety' feature for about a year.

thank you for your advice, this really worked. But I do not get any rationale behind it?
Could you shed some light?
btw, I did some search on the internet, but I guess I need to dig in deeper
This is what Screen Adjuster developer says
What's New
v1.7
-notification bugfix
-the bug with apk installation cannot be fix due to it is related with the Android Package Manager
But what does it have to do with Pacakage manager and Screeen?
Android Package Manager prevents overlays from allowing installation of apks. If it weren't in place someone could be pretty malicious with overlays and actually get you to install anything they wanted and you wouldn't even know it. You would think you are clicking a button in the app but really you would be installing something bad.

Today i tried to install an apk i downloaded from a company thats software i use, Touchdown for my email and contacts etc.
When i went to the download file to click on the apk to update my version it gives me the install option but i cant click on it only on cancel.
I messed around and then did the same thing though my file explorer and this time i was presented with an option to install it using package installer or juicy installer work around.
package didnt work the the installer workaround did.
Is this a problem with juicy or what?
If its a problem and they have obviously included a work around are they going to fix it?
This is a weird issue i guess idk.
Any responses would be helpful.
Go to settings>security and check the "unknown sources" box. Without that you can only install apps from the play store.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
settings
i have that
this started since i installed Juicy.

Disable the brightness control in juice defender. That's causing your problems.

Worked like a charm

Is the option there and just doesn't work, or is it grayed out?
Are you having multiple issues? I don't understand what you're asking about the screen brightness for...
Are you by chance running halo (floating notification)? If so, turn it off first and you should be able to install then. If not, I don't know

Screen filter is a brightness app. To turn it off just tap the notification in status bar and then back out of the app
Are we talking about any .apk or is it a specific .apk?
-edit-
I have some apk's that cannot install and pushing them into my root system >> app directory and reboot. This always works for me.
Every APP I try to install says "X Not Installed". Updates to apps.
I recently upgraded to CM12, that's when I noticed it. So, I ended up reverting back to a kitkat nandroid. Still happening. I did a full wipe except for internal data. Clean install. Still happening.. I am at a loss.
Settings-Security-unknown sources. Tick that. I know it's too simple but maybe it's not ticked
I check that every time...
Same issue here too.. Running the latest ota 44s I think
Any hints on this issue?
To be more precise : when installing apps from a third party shop like Amazon or xposed the "Install" button has no function like greyed out or something being unable to install the update/app

do you use twilight? lux? or screen filter? something similar?
Yes, Twilight... Why?

Android blocks the install button when an overlay is being used. It's called 'tapjacking' and is a security feature. Pause twilight

My Nexus 5 with 4.4.4 official ROM still have transparent Search Bar and App Drawer last night.
But when i look up it today, it turns to white background suddenly.
Do anyone know how to change it back?
Thanks

Google Search versions were updated so most devices are on the same version rather than having different versions of Google Search on different versions of Android.
Find the .apk of an old version and install it.
Other than that, you'll have to use a 3rd party launcher or just deal with a simple change.

You may also need an older version of Google Play Services to use very old versions of Google Search.
You'll have to reflash factory images or reflash your ROM.
I suggest you just accept the change or use a 3rd party launcher, using "uninstall updates" on Google Search hardly ever works correctly.

Dear Lethargy! May I suggest that you predict scenarios like that, before you answer that kind of question. It is not fair to this guy.

I suggested he install the previous .apk version, I did not suggest he tap on "uninstall updates".
This is what happens when you do not read.

Yeah. I know that. And I read right your post. But you know that I've noticed that here is a lot of people that don't read. You could know that guy is impatient and would try to solve problem like that as fast as possible. I just want to say, that is good to be predictive and warning people about how important is also to understand, not just read.
Like you more and more, Zagor

Sorry Lethargy, actually u help answer my question without fault
i uninstall update is just due to i thought like this stupidly:
uninstall update -> means get a old version
Then i cannot back homescreen, and i restart my nexus5 and shout omg LOL
And i have flashed the official ROM before getting ur answer
Btw this is a great experience for me LOL
And actually the correct solution i found out is:
1. Switch off auto update
2. Download the old version apk
3. Uninstall update
4. Install the apk with adb command or with explorer

Super, that you fix it. Another way to fix problem like this is to install custom recovery and flash some launcher via zip.
There isn't anything better than experience.

I also don't know how to make flashable zip, but I figure it out, that you could do a little cheat on that (please, don't blame me). For example: take some zip allready made to flash some ordinary/little mods (you need to be sure that script inside is not written to delete something). Then just copy your files with wright path/directories and remove all you don't need. It works well.

Hello guys,
OK, I have enabled installation from "unknown sources" but to my frustration, some apks refuse to install. Most especially Mobdro and Contact Optimizer.
When I click these apks, I get the option to "Install" or "Cancel". If I click on "Install", it does nothing regardless of the number of times I click but once I click on "Cancel" it exits the installation process.
I have installed other apks successfully but these two refuse.
Help needed please,
Thanks

Thanks so so much. That was the problem. Reverted to default and everything installed. Unfortunately I only got to watch the last four minutes of extra time for the match.
Thanks once again.
