Can't install any Apps from unknown source. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every APP I try to install says "X Not Installed". Updates to apps.
I recently upgraded to CM12, that's when I noticed it. So, I ended up reverting back to a kitkat nandroid. Still happening. I did a full wipe except for internal data. Clean install. Still happening.. I am at a loss.

Settings-Security-unknown sources. Tick that. I know it's too simple but maybe it's not ticked

I check that every time...

Same issue here too.. Running the latest ota 44s I think

Any hints on this issue?
To be more precise : when installing apps from a third party shop like Amazon or xposed the "Install" button has no function like greyed out or something being unable to install the update/app

do you use twilight? lux? or screen filter? something similar?

Yes, Twilight... Why?

Android blocks the install button when an overlay is being used. It's called 'tapjacking' and is a security feature. Pause twilight

Thank you so much that was it.

Alarm Clock Extreme.apk
Does it matter, I tried few APKs, no luck
well some require root, some are system apk etc.
did you change the setting to allow apps from unknown sources?
They also may not be updated to work with 4.4
Yes i tried both tick or untick, but installbutton is not clickable.
could be kitkat.
can you try to install some apk?
thanks
Are you running some app that dims the screen or provides an overlay of some sort ? Turn that off if so.
Have you enabled 'unknown sources' option in security settings?

Because this is a common problem. LOL. It has been a 'safety' feature for about a year.

thank you for your advice, this really worked. But I do not get any rationale behind it?
Could you shed some light?
btw, I did some search on the internet, but I guess I need to dig in deeper
This is what Screen Adjuster developer says
What's New
v1.7
-notification bugfix
-the bug with apk installation cannot be fix due to it is related with the Android Package Manager
But what does it have to do with Pacakage manager and Screeen?
Android Package Manager prevents overlays from allowing installation of apks. If it weren't in place someone could be pretty malicious with overlays and actually get you to install anything they wanted and you wouldn't even know it. You would think you are clicking a button in the app but really you would be installing something bad.

Cannot install apps

Hi. I'm experiencing a weird issue with my nexus 5 (stock ROM, root). When I try to install any application, at the permissions screen, I just cannot tap the "Install" button. It's like the touchscreen didn't work (but it works). The "cancel" button works fine, and the "install" button isn't grayed out or something. I've already tried rebooting or switching to landscape. Any suggestion? Thank you

I'd clear the cache and data from the Play Store and reboot and retry. If that doesn't work, then I''d clear the Google Play Services and Google Services Framework and reboot and retry. Might open up weird the first time or 2 after clearing all of them, but should get back to normal once everything logs in and resyncs.

Well, always want to eliminate the potential easy fixes first. Are you on Dalvik or ART? Do you have a custom recovery? Are these all apps or just ones that you have downloaded / used before? Are you able to uninstall an app you already have loaded and reinstall or just update one?

Ate you trying to install only apps from the play store or do you have an apk you're trying to install?
Duh, I just automatically read into the OP that it was the Play Store, not thinking of sideloading or other avenues.
OP: Do you have any type of screen adjustment apps for like brightness control? Lux, and Xposed mod, or something of the like? This can also create this issue. That or your package installer is messed up.

The problem happens to any the apk. I'm sure I could install them before. It does not happen when I download an app from Play Store, but that's because the permissions screen is different. I can successfully uninstall apps, but not reinstall or update them.
You're going to have to manually install them. Are they legal apps?

Ok then. First thing is the screen changing type apps. Screen brightness, etc. Uninstall any of those, reboot and try again. If there are no issues there, then clear the cache and data from your package installer (are you using the regular Package Installer or the Google Verify and Install one)? Once you do that, would reboot to CWM and clear cache/dalvik and fix permissions (if possible, haven't used CWM in awhile) and reboot. If all that fails, try another package installer.

[Q] Downloaded APK's do not install

Hello,
So, I've recently bumped into this situation I would download an app's apk online but it won't install. I'm on CM 12S YNG1TAS17L. Downloading the apk is perfectly fine, but when I install the app, it just goes to a "app not installed" screen where I can only press on the "done" button. The 2 specific apps are SnapColors, an xposed module, and Mango, a manga app. I have no idea why these apps won't install all of a sudden. I would greatly appreciate any help given. These apps have worked perfectly fine before until an update came, and now, all apks not from the Google Play Store do no install.

Question Settings don't show

I downloaded the latest "settings" on telegram, but once installed, I can't access anymore... The application opens then closes straight away..
Any solution to fix? Or do I have to do a reset?
You probably installed a incompatible version, if you use a appmanager you should be able to locate the app (settings) go to manage then uninstall updates it should revert it back.
I've done this and encountered the same issues
I used this; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.app_manager
There are certainly other apps that do the same thing
Thanks for your reply..
I installed this application but it can't work because it needs permissions, and each time I try to access to permissions... It closes
So I used "files" which was already installed and managed to go down factory settings
All works now..
Thank you for giving me this idea

Like I say I've been there & done that, I too have installed "updated" OnePlus apps sometimes with success sometimes with crashes.
You should always be able to downgrade/revert.
Sometimes you get quirky faults
But I've managed to get the theme store and various other things working like fonts etc... I'm still unrooted and standard oos.
I use my NFC a lot and I can't risk tripping saftynet just yet.

Question Upgrading to 12 from 11 on magisk rooted device.

I rooted this device (model XT2131-1 TMO) while it was still on the android 11 using magisk method (currently on v25.2) and it runs fine honestly but when playing games every time the system update window appears it will completely boot me out of said game. I always selected not now( as I know updates break root if you just update) but I wanted to try and just update it and work on rooting that version after but then I receive "Package Verification Failed" notice and nothing happens. After so many attempts of selecting "not now" it will completely stop for a few weeks then start popping up again. So far this is absolutely the only issue I have ATM. More an annoyance really. Is there a way to completely disable that system update notification from appearing entirely or where should I look to restore, update, and then reboot on Android 12? I'd prefer just get rid of the update popup as everything else works fine. I'd appreciate any help thank you.
I also just remembered I've asked this in another thread but in this one im asking more about preferably disabling the system update notification entirely which will fix my main issue of it.

Solution: flash current stock kernel and run update again. You can grab updated stock kernel from RSA and patch and regain root

You can't delete it but you can certainly freeze it find an app like SD maid on Google Play you can freeze all the update apps and associated dll files there's about six or seven of them
I've still got an older pro version of that actually. Ty I'll look into that.
I'm seeing two under sdmaid. Both say frozen already. Which one is the actual android system update app pls?

Yes but there is android system update and then Motorola system update. I've disabled/froze(yes using sd maid and other root accessed app managers separately so as not to mess up anything else) both and their services/triggers (anything linked to ether) each at a time for a couple days and both at the same time and still appears constantly. Only thing I can think of is to completely reset to full stock,go to 12 and reboot ....
Try to disablw this application. i read that this help. I do not vouch for it, I’m not responsible for what happens due to it.

Look for an app called preference manager on Google Play.
Of course it'll require root.
Select each individual app it'll take you to the XML file it creates.
Look for all the timer entries and change them to zero basically make a mess out of it if you will.
As long as you've disabled all the receivers that should stop the app from Auto Wake
