Is the option there and just doesn't work, or is it grayed out?
Are you having multiple issues? I don't understand what you're asking about the screen brightness for...
Are you by chance running halo (floating notification)? If so, turn it off first and you should be able to install then. If not, I don't know

Screen filter is a brightness app. To turn it off just tap the notification in status bar and then back out of the app
Are we talking about any .apk or is it a specific .apk?
-edit-
I have some apk's that cannot install and pushing them into my root system >> app directory and reboot. This always works for me.

Today i tried to install an apk i downloaded from a company thats software i use, Touchdown for my email and contacts etc.
When i went to the download file to click on the apk to update my version it gives me the install option but i cant click on it only on cancel.
I messed around and then did the same thing though my file explorer and this time i was presented with an option to install it using package installer or juicy installer work around.
package didnt work the the installer workaround did.
Is this a problem with juicy or what?
If its a problem and they have obviously included a work around are they going to fix it?
This is a weird issue i guess idk.
Any responses would be helpful.
Go to settings>security and check the "unknown sources" box. Without that you can only install apps from the play store.

Disable the brightness control in juice defender. That's causing your problems.

Alarm Clock Extreme.apk
Does it matter, I tried few APKs, no luck
well some require root, some are system apk etc.
did you change the setting to allow apps from unknown sources?
They also may not be updated to work with 4.4
Yes i tried both tick or untick, but installbutton is not clickable.
could be kitkat.
can you try to install some apk?
thanks
Are you running some app that dims the screen or provides an overlay of some sort ? Turn that off if so.
Have you enabled 'unknown sources' option in security settings?

Because this is a common problem. LOL. It has been a 'safety' feature for about a year.

thank you for your advice, this really worked. But I do not get any rationale behind it?
Could you shed some light?
btw, I did some search on the internet, but I guess I need to dig in deeper
This is what Screen Adjuster developer says
What's New
v1.7
-notification bugfix
-the bug with apk installation cannot be fix due to it is related with the Android Package Manager
But what does it have to do with Pacakage manager and Screeen?
Android Package Manager prevents overlays from allowing installation of apks. If it weren't in place someone could be pretty malicious with overlays and actually get you to install anything they wanted and you wouldn't even know it. You would think you are clicking a button in the app but really you would be installing something bad.
I just bought my mi4 today, and i just cant remove the limit of downloading app from playstore & other apps,
i've browse around and they keep said using "Download" app that already there since they start their phone.
and i realize that i dont have that app !! omggg
anyone can help me here?
sorry for my bad in english.
Are you sure you dont have the download app? It looks like this:
If you dont have it, try updating or flashing a fresh MIUI ROM.
After you find it go into it and press the 3 dots on the top right. A menu will appear. Click on settings and scroll the numbers on the bottom down to where it says unlimited.

The download app is by default in the tools folder on the first page. It's a green icon with a white arrow within.

Thanks guys :good:
Hello guys,
OK, I have enabled installation from "unknown sources" but to my frustration, some apks refuse to install. Most especially Mobdro and Contact Optimizer.
When I click these apks, I get the option to "Install" or "Cancel". If I click on "Install", it does nothing regardless of the number of times I click but once I click on "Cancel" it exits the installation process.
I have installed other apks successfully but these two refuse.
Help needed please,
Thanks

Thanks so so much. That was the problem. Reverted to default and everything installed. Unfortunately I only got to watch the last four minutes of extra time for the match.
Thanks once again.

1. Is a possibility to completly turn off fingerprint sensor button or to turn off the action when its touched to recover the home screen?
When Im using the phone horizontally I accidentaly hit the fingerprint sensor and it gives me back on home screen
2. Can be turned off the gesture when you moved down the finger on home screen for searching in apps, contacts...?

1. I don't think so, I haven't seen that option anywhere.
2. Definitely no. There was a discussion on this matter, and there is no way to disable that 'search' option.

It can. I did it. All you have to do is find the downloaded apk in the downloads folder and install the app. See print screens attached. I'm on stock Rom, not rooted.
