Has anyone noticed that once connected to a bluetooth stereo (such as your car), you cannot lower the bluetooth volume via the phone? I noticed that the steaming audio was distorted, so I tried to lower the bluetooth audio by two notches and nothing happened. Lowered it all the way down and nothing changed with the volume. Anyone else seeing this? Im not digging this audio distortion in my music!!

Yes, I have the same problem and its prohibitively loud on my headphones
Its great via a2dp but not tried changing the volume on the handset. No distortion at all. Everything is fine via headphone jack as well. I'll double check the a2dp tomorrow.

I had to resort using the an equalizer app to bring all the levels down a few notches.

It's anyone that is using A2DP notice distortion on higher frequency posts of music? This is an issue that started back on android 4.2 and I'm still hearing on 4.4. I tried the equalizer but it didn't make a difference.

Root.......install Viper4Android....PROFIT!!!! Once you've tried it you'll never want to hear the base eq settings again(it out does Poweramp as well).
I've also noticed this problem. My bluetooth headphones are damn near unusable. It's infinitely too loud at all volumes. I'll try the eq trick.

Yes I noticed this as well the other day when I was streaming to my car. Very annoying.
Weird.... while i was watching a video on Youtube in the car the other day, i was able to adjust the volume with the volume rocker. It actually showed a volume bar with the bluetooth logo, too... not just a system volume.

Are you saying that if you install Viper4Android that the high end frequency distortion goes away?
I stream music in my car occasionally, and it sounds fine. No distortion at any specific frequencies, other than an overall loss in a bit of quality because of the bluetooth connection.
Generally, it sounds fine. It allows control of the bluetooth audio output, as well as the device itself having control (obviously). I'd say if you're having distortion turn down the output on the phone itself to like 80% of full, and then control the volume on the device you're outputting to.

You can tune the eq settings to take it down a notch. Musical quality overall will improve. Viper4Android IMO is a much much better sound mod than anything else out there.
No all a2dp are the same
Yes, I've seen this. What's interesting is that not all of my a2dp headphones are acting the same.
I have two different LG a2dp headphones. The HBS-700 and the HBS-730. The 730's are supposed to have higher quality sound (though it seems to me all BT audio takes a hit). The 730's work fine with my Transformer, but are way too loud on the N5.
The 700's work fine on both. There is a difference in how the volume responds between the two headsets....
On the 700 the N5 rockers seem to control the output level from N5 while the 700 rocker separately controls the headphone volume (in combination I can get to a comfortable level).
On the 730's both volume rockers seem to control the BT output on the N5. It's like the volume of the headphone is permanently max'd.
I believe this is supposed to be a new 4.4 "feature" in that you shouldn't need to muck with both volume rockers. The problem could be with the headphone in that it's not adjusting it's volume simultaneously and in combination with the N5 level.
So after some testing I found that no combination of settings from Viper4Android fix the A2DP issue of distorted audio at the higher frequencies.
This was how we worked around this issue on Android v4.3...

The higher quality sound for the 730s really only applies to devices with aptX codex support. Unfortunately our nexus 5 doesn't support that. Still looking for a solution to the Bluetooth high volume problem too.

There is a dedicated Bluetooth tab in Viper4Android where you can lower the volume without effecting speaker/earphone jack. Maybe try that.

The volume issue is app related. I have no issues using Play Music, but when I use Pandora the volume is stuck on max. As far as sound quality issues I am not sure. I know the bass really seems to distort my headphones, but I have no other BT headphones to compare.
Anyone here been able to stream music to a Toyota unit? Seems like my 12 sienna lost the stream ability from android after 4.1 jb.
I just tried my new HBS 730 and they are loud no matter what I do with the volume. I installed Equalizer and it help a bit, but it is still a tad loud at the lowest volume settings.
I hope they find a solution to this...
UPDATE: Just tried the HBS 730 on my HTC One S and it has no problems with volume: it is pleasant to listen to.

You say that media control remote for SGS is impossible that in future no company cannot even make it because SGS hw do not support it??? it is very important to me to have 3.5mm corded headphone with media buttons. I am former user of 5800 XM and heavy music listener with media keys.
Did your nokia use a 3,5mm minijack port?
The button on a wired headset works to play/pause the music in 3(cubed) and DoubleTwist media players, or to answer/hang up calls in the phone app.
Haven't worked out how to get voice-dialing with the button though - does anyone know how to do this?

What'd you want to do to? Next/Previous? Try PlayerPro, it can override the volume controls, thus giving you a next/back option from your volume rocker.

Yes indeed, i want to have Next/previous. I am using PowerAmp though, and i would like to have wired headphones with the media keys.
Anyone?:/
Buy PlayerPro in the market. It's an awesome music player, lacks EQ though ;(
But the main reason why it's my favourite is it supports being able to pause, previous and next song.
1 Click - Pause
2 Click - Next song
3 Click - Previous song
I'm using the earphones that come supplied with the Galaxy S. Being able to control you music is the only thing I miss from apple hardware but it's came to android through PlayerPro. Couldn't recommend this app any more.
But still there is a lack of inline volume control, if you like something like the remote of 5800, you must use bluetooth.

For pause and song skip you can use the latest Doubletwist. A fast double click of the stock headphones skips songs, and of course one click pauses.
If you are using the stock headphones that came with the Galaxy S then power amp has an option to make the headphones work 1 click play-pause/2clicks next song/3 clicks previous song. Go into settings-headset and check doublw/triple press. All of this while maintaining the telephone answering and speaking ability. My one gripe is that the sound quality isn't so great on those earphones. Dont get me wrong compared to the stock earphones from apple they are practically sure e3's but I would like to option to use my senheisers but still be able to use the mic (the voice search app is really useful).

I just received 2 pairs of Samsung earphones for the Galaxy S, I always had the Samsung EHS48's (they came with my phone), and I ordered another pair of them, but now I also have the EHS60's.
The EHS48's are available here for next to nothing: http://cgi.ebay.nl/GENUINE-SAMSUNG-...ssories_RL&hash=item230c2e73d1#ht_1945wt_1139
I think the sound quality on them is good enough, the EHS60's sound the same, but I think they look better and they fit better in my ears as well. I found them only in a Dutch webshop (I am Dutch), but they are rather expensive compared to the ones on eBay above.
Ty!
Can you also link to the EHS60's?
And the EHS60 has the media button or whatever so you can change track?

I only have a link to a Dutch site: http://smacc.nl/samsungmobile/accessoire/samsung-ehs60b-stereo-headset
It has the same button on the wires as the EHS48, so just one button to answer phone. But since I use PowerAmp I can use it with the double/triple click.
Awesome dude! I use poweramp aswell, so i guess i will buy the eh60! Will look at ebay.
Thanks again!
(I still think it should work with other headphones)
Hi guys.
I just had Samsung's AARM040EBECSTD headphones for 7 US$ and as you can see in picture it has mic + button + volume. So you can use for Play/Pause, Next track (double click with newest SGS fws) and volume. PowerAMP supports Previous track with triple click too.
The good side is I have tested and it works with any standard headphone with 3.5 mm plug. Mine is Koss Porta Pro and works perfectly. It is great when you go out during winter. One controller and most of the features are delivered.

I have an adapter with microphone that allows any headset to be used for calls and music control, with iPhone. Tried to use it with Inspire 4G and got no sound whatsoever (regular headphones work fine, but of course, no mic or music control then). Pictures of HTC headset with mic show similar 3 ring insert, but something must be slightly different. Has anyone successfully used a microphone headset specifically for Inspire 4G, and/or an adapter that will function with any set of headphones?
I have 1 with an inline mic.
However the sound quality when I plug it in is HORRIBLE compared to just headphones.
Dont know why.
Have tested this with 2 inline mics.
I'm using a Monster iBeats in ear set with my 4G. Sound quality is great for music, very good for phone.
My inline mic will pause music but the volume does not work for music.
For phone calls, I can mute, unmute and answer, but volume control does not work.
This set on my wifes iPhone the volume control works for both music and phone and also allows you to forward itunes tracks.
I just use the volume control on the side of the phone on the Inspire with this headset.

I do not notice any difference in sound quality whether I use the Mic or not.
I'm running Rooted Stock ROM with bloat removed.
There is an app called Headset Button Controller
Just installed it and I can adjust the volume, move forward and back in music tracks and also turn volume up and down with this app installed in media apps.
Interestingly it only uses the center button to do all this on a three button headset.
In phone mode center button ends call. So it does not change anything compared to not running it.
I'll run it and see how I like it, initial impressions are it fixes what doesn't work native with the headset in media mode.

So I ordered the GoGroove Bluegate Bluetooth Receiver from Amazon the other day and my package was delivered today! Woohoo!
I got everything set up in my room and was very impressed. I'm no audiophile, but I noticed no difference in quality between the Headphone jack and BT audio.
So out to my truck I went, got it all wired up the way I like, and started playing some tunes.
On Batakang 1.00 and using DoubleTwist, the volume was WAY TOO LOUD. It was also pretty distorted. So I made sure the stereo, BT volume, and media volume were all at the lowest settings to no avail. Still incredibly loud.
Is this phone just loud as hell? I know the external speaker is louder than most other phones. Is it software or hardware? Is there any way I can force the volume down? (Side note, I miss the expandable volume controls after pressing the rocker in CM9/CM10)
Any help is appreciated!
Use Audio Concert Pro from the play store and it should give you everything you need.

It sounds like something in your setup is causing it to bypass the volume settings and just play at max volume. I use my phone all the time for bluetooth audio on 2 blackberry bluetooth gateways (home stereo and office stereo) and a sony bluetooth audio car stereo and I am able to control the volume just fine from both the phone and the stereos.

I think I figured it out. I installed "music volume EQ" from Play and I adjusted all bands to -15 db. This surprisingly made all volumes much more acceptable. I noticed media volume over 8 used to sound the same, like it was maxed out, but it seems much more granular now, and lower volumes are more "normal".
I suggest this fix for anyone who is unhappy with any volumes.

I know this topic is way old, but I know what the problem is. I unlocked and flashed cm10.1, and while the bluetooth takes a few seconds to lock on, it now is at a reasonable volume, the BT volume slider changes volume, and it never jumps to 100% after connection. The Motorola BT drivers must be wonky. Anyway, that's it! Moto screwed up.

So i have been using my Tone+'s for a while now and love them.
as soon as i upgraded my G-nex to 4.4 i had rediculously loud volume over BT. thought it was just a big in the build.
get my N5 yesterday, and i am having the same issues. i know the headset controls the volume now, but at its lowest setting, it is still pretty loud (louder than i would like)
am i the only one that has this problem? just curious
i have tried wired headphones and they are normal, i also tried a Jabra clipper BT headphone set and it was also normal.
how do 2 LG products not play perfectly together is beyond me.
Having the same issue here. For now, I'm using an equalizer and just lowering all the frequency bands to -13dB. Hopefully this gets fixed soon...
Same issues here. It's very frustrating as I also bought a wireless charging bad so I could be completely wireless at work.
It is Kit Kat issue on all devices that use the default Google Bluedroid Bluetooth stack, meaning Nexus devices and Google Play versions (other devices running a modified stack may not be affected).
Supposedly, it is an extension to Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 that enables Bluetooth audio devices to directly control Android's system volume. It seems some genius thought two independent volume levels (headphone volume and handset bluetooth level) was too confusing for folks. Clearly they did not think about (or test) that some Bluetooth audio devices with their own volume controls might default to a very high or low level, and control of only the handset's bluetooth level would not provide sufficient range of adjustment.
So once again we have Goofle googing up bluetooth in Android. Please share your disappointment in the following threads so that we might see a fix ASAP. Guessing they are facing law suits for hearing damage if it is not addressed quickly.

Does your older tone and car support a avrcp 1.3?
In my car, it's just the opposite. I now have to turn the level on the phone to max to hear anything. Before 4.4 I could leave it halfway.
I have used tone+ on my s4 and n5. Both are often too loud. I have always had to adjust the headset volume, handset volume and then the equalizer in poweramp to get things just right. I love them for music but if I get a call it is always way too loud.

I am unsure what what is to be honest. But if it has to do with showing the songs/artist etc on the screen, then yes it does that. Does it with my S2, N5 and will do it with an iPhone (work). Car is a Honda 2012
The issue with the Tone + is that it powers up at medium volume level, and when connected to an audio source, Android 4.4 now maps the volume control on the Tone to system volume.
As a work around I have found that, after powering up the Tone +, if you press the front most volume rocker repeatedly until you hear the low pitch tone you can lower the volume. Then when you connect to your audio source it is not so loud.
I hope Google fixes this soon, but I have low expectations based on other Bluetooth issues of the past.
Have you tried changing the sound type on the Tone+? (Holding down both volume buttons at the same time) I know if I have it on normal, high base or high treble they all have different volumes. This may help.
I mainly listen to podcasts, so I always set the EQ profile to the 3rd one (treble up).
It looks like 4.4.1 update fixed the battle between headset volume and handset volume. I'm a happy LG owner!
Hi all,
playing around with my new Nexus 5 I recognized a problem to control the volume of my external bluetooth loudspeaker.
First, the speaker connected normally as it used to with my GNex (JB 4.3). But with the Nexus 5 the volume seems to stay at maximum only. Pushing the volume buttons +/- of the phone shows up the volume control and I can see the volume going up and down. However, the speaker stays at max. volume independant of the volume setting.
Can somebody else please check this?
I updated my Nexus 7 to KitKat also. And... the same issue here. Perhaps my speaker has a problem?
Thanks
By the way... the speaker is a Philips SBT50
