Since I owned a HTC Hero and a Google Nexus One I wanted something new. So I changed to a Windows phone. The LG Optimus 7 is a great phone, really easy in use, great build quality,... I just have 1 problem, I miss Android to much So, because the Nexus S is so low in price I was wondering if it's still a good choice? I know the hardware is a bit outdated, but it seems that it's still is a great phone with a lot of ROM developement.
What do you guys think?

Wait for the nexus prime imho
Sent from my Nexus S 4G powered by Matr1x/CO2 using Tapatalk
Ow, forgot to tell about that. I don't like phones with such big screens. The nexus S has imo perfect screensize. If the Nexus prime had smaller screensize I would have waited.
And the low price of the Nexus S is nice too.
Then why wait?
Because I wanted to hear some other opinions
Is it still worth it? If you look at the price imo then yes.
I just sold my evo 3d and got a nexus. IMO the nexus is a better device. I don't even want to root it, yet.

I am also concerned about the size of the new Nexus ... time will tell. In the meantime I swapped my Evo for an NS4g. With Oxygen and Franco's latest kernel ... I could be happy with this phone for a long time.

I have an LG Optimus 7 and switched to the Nexus S. Mainly for the same reasons you are looking at. I think the LG is a fantastic phone, but I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with WP7 and wanted to get back to Android. I chose not to wait for the Prime for the same reason as you. I don't like the big screen. The 4.0" on the Nexus S is perfect for me. Its specs aren't that far behind. Here in North America there aren't a lot of phones with front facing camera, which the Nexux S has. It has NFC which I think is going to take off this year. It is going to get an official ICS upgrade if you don't want to root to get it.
The flexibility of Android is fantastic compared to the locked down Windows Phone....I'm so glad to be back with Android, and the Nexus S.
Dave
well sinc the galaxy nexus doesnt have a bezel it doesnt make the phone that much larger
Ok thx guys
I think I will put my Optimus 7 for sale then and go for the Nexus S.
I'd get it still... I have a nexus a 4g and had an epic 4g before that...stock Android has so much going for it that I could only recommend another stock phone like the prime... But as you said, it's not what you are looking for right now.
The build quality on the nexus a is great and it feels like a very solid phone. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone looking at Android in general. Much better than the other non nexus phones I've used

I luv reading these types of threads. Reminds me how great these phones are
I just picked up a Nexus S today and for the few hours I have played with it I am loving it. I don't like big phones either and was a little intimidated by the size but I think it is perfect for me even with tiny hands.
There were no surprises for me either, it is the pure android experience and so easy to use. I recommend the Nexus S to most Android users and would recommend the Galaxy Nexus to those who want the bigger screen.
Just cracked my screen. I have a few things i could do..
Go thought ATT to get a new phone...NOT A NEXUS 5...optimus g or optimus g pro or HTC M8 and this would cost 200$
I could send it in to LG to fix and it could cost between 100-200$ to fix or replace...
Buy the parts myself and fix it...what do you think? Has anyone else done this and what did you do?
If you could get an m8 for 200 I would go that route but that's if your OK without a nexus device. Some people only go nexus some people don't care.
Really sorry though that sucks.

Really is the M8 better then the Nexus!? So far i have had no problems with my Nexus and i also have it rooted and updated. But anyways why the M8...I have not had an HTC phone since the HTC Fuze So it has been a LONG time!
Let me know please...
I would fix it, it not that hard just make sure you get a screen that has the frame. I just one for a guy I work with last week, super simple and cost $120 for the part and had it repaired in 30 minutes.

Yes i know i can fix it for cheap but at the same time is the M8 better than the Nexus 5 other than it being a Google phone...I love the fact that i get updates and its STOCK Android...its fast and overall a great phone.
But after looking at the M8 it does seem to be a little nicer and the speakers look great as i do have a Sub to the Google Music...But are the speaker to Bassy?

M8 is a beast.
Speakers sound great, battery life is very good, and SD expandable storage. I have had it for 3+ months and it is the best phone yet.
BUT.....if you can hold off until February, the M9 looks like it is going to take it to another level. Quad BoomSound, 64 bit cpu, 12mp UltraPixel camera and possibly optical zoom.

For 200 bucks the m8 is the best deal you will ever get. It is better then the nexus as far as features but if you love stock android convert it to a google play device. I'm sure you can by now. You could with the m7. Its an amazing phone.
get the M8 and turn it into a Google Play Edition if you like stock

I'd fix it. I came from a M7, and I much prefer the stock experience of the Nexus. It was possible to flash other roms on the M7/M8 but it will never run as well as sense does or stock does on the Nexus.
It's very easy to fix with a bit of care and attention.

There will always be something you could wait on. I agree with others about the stock experience.... Its hard to beat the Nexus.
With every phone people always point out specs, that's not everything. You have to look at the overall picture, what skin does that manufacturer have on that phone, most eat up resources !

Hey new community friends!!
So I'm getting a Nexus 5 from Rogers tomorrow after having an LG G2 since its release.
They seem to be very similar on paper, except that the G5 has a smaller battery and lesser camera.
I'd love some thoughts on what I should be looking forward to or NOT looking forward to moving into N5 territory
Gavin
It a pretty much the same phone. The g2 is better optimized for battery. Its a bit of a weird change at this time of year.
I agree it is a weird change, but it's based on my business relationship with Rogers. Didn't cost me anything. They basically owed me another phone (swap) and the Nexus five was the one they offered .

Well we'll get lollipop soon. Its good. If you're into rooting and mods, you've come to the right phone. Not much else to say really
Go back to the g2.
Hi all. Currently using a 2013 Moto X as my daily driver but haven't been thrilled with it. Battery life is okay but just not wild about the device overall.
Thinking about a G2 or Nexus 5 (t-mobile user). My wife has a nexus 5 and between is we've had every nexus device since the G1 so very familiar with that line.
Looking for solid battery life and decent camera. Fast updates via nexus are nice but not a deal breaker. Have about $300 and want at least 32GB.
Thanks.
Lolol Nexus 5 for battery life and camera
Those are the cons of this phone
Go for the g2 imo

I've had them two and G2 is much better than Nexus in almost everything. Great battery, you can get easily 7 hours of sot, great camera, great display, even better than the Nexus one. Currently I'm on Nexus 5 only because of the software and community, I didn't like that much LG skin as I like stock android. You still have options to install an G3 based rom in G2, and they were great, but stock android is in other level... If you don't mind about this you should go to the LG G2, but for me this was really important.

Thanks all. Ended up going with the Nexus 5. Development here seems to far outpace the G2, which makes sense. Was close to going with the G2 but the development here trumps the G2. I like the idea of not getting left behind when software updates come out. Appreciate all the help. Phone should be here Tuesday. Probably keep it on stock at first while I scour the forums and find a ROM that suits my needs.

I saw a hands-on review of the G2 and IMO it's not even close to the Nexus 5. I don't like G2's touchwiz and the overall UI experience at all. I don't care if it has a 3000mAh battery and a better camera. My vote: N5.

It's actually worse than TouchWiz, IMO. Of all the OEM skins, I think LG easily takes the cake when it comes down to ugliness. Their hardware isn't so pretty either. The N5 is the only LG product I'll ever spend a dime on.

It's a matter of taste, and tastes differ. I think LG's skin is, in terms of functionality, the best on the market.
Same goes for hardware and build, some like it, others don't. Thankfully with Android, there is no "one size fits all".
Even though its already too late to chime in with my opinion, the LG G2 is honestly... The better device EXCEPT when it comes to software. I've owned a G2 for about a month before I sold that and got my Nexus 5. Even though I'm thoroughly enjoying my Nexus experience (As this is my first ever Nexus device), there are definitely some things I miss about the G2. One, being the insane battery life, even on AOSP. But on the flip side, the G2 also had some stupid ass problems when it comes to rooting. One, being that the device is prone to permanent screen damage from flashing a ROM at a complete random chance. The G2's camera was good, and definitely outperforms the N5's, but its not that big of a deal. Knock on was pretty cool, too.
Put it like this: what the G2 had over the Nexus 5, the stability and variety of ROMs the N5 has makes up for.
Congratulations for your great choice!
And before buying Nexus 5 I had exactly the same dilemma like you but ended up buying Nexus 5 and I don't regret on that choice at all because development for Nexus is really amazing,we don't need to wait for a long time to get latest Android updates (as far as I know LG G2 didn't get a Lollipop update yet) Well,LG support for their devices was always poor.

Yep, to each their own. That's one of the best things about Android, there is quite literally something for everyone.

I would any moment give up my nexus 5 for a lg g2 mainly because of sub standard battery life ..i hardly manage 4 hrs of sot on 3g network and 5hrs sot on the pathetic 2g..wid elementalx the sot is raised by 10-15minutes max..
Yes i know its a damn powerful device. I am not complaining i knew abt the battery life before i got it...its just that lg g2 was above my budget
hi am thinking of getting eithe r lg g2 or nexus 5. if someone has both can you help with few questions on decide wich to get..
so far i know hardware is the same except camera , maybe battery..
i know camera on g2 is better but how better is it then the nexus 5? are there any mods for better camera on n5

As regards the Nexus 5, I can say that the battery life is outstanding (i'm using CM 12.1 CAF).
Get the G2. It's just a better phone overall, unless you're an update junkie.

Had both, changed the LG G2 for the Nexus 5. Both are great phones. G2 has an extreme battery, you can get easily 6-7 horas of SOT, the only problem is really the software.
Perfect combination would be Nexus 5 software with G2 hardware.

I think that it has not much support from community, at least not like Nexus 5, that's a disadvantage.
In Nexus 5 with custom kernel and rom I can get about 4-4:30 hours with moderate use, nothing compared to G2 one.
Been using my brothers old LG G2 for a few days. Software is trash, battery is absolutely fantastic. Perhaps find a good custom ROM on the LG G2 and you're set.

from experience the g2 is better camera wise and battery, although roms are built off cm and not aosp (i assume depending on carrier) and nexus overall is a beast but battery sucks and has more support on here on xda... i bricked my g2 trying to get grola rom on it and ruined the partitions
G2 is almost superior in every aspect but if you dig into it more, there is one hardware defect that instantly kills it: touch panel malfunction. Almost every G2 I've seen around my local forums (be it international, Sprint, Verizon or else, and be it treated carefully or badly) eventually get the syndrome where a horizontal portion of the touchscreen stops responding, usually one year after their purchase. This is a hardware issue and will not be fixed by ROMs.
If it had not been like this I would've bought myself a Sprint G2. Think it over.

Had the g2 for 2 months, camera/battery is great, speakers aren't that great, software is utter ****. Flashing roms isn't as cut and dry as with the nexus 5 since there's a handful of variations of the g2, in my case there was no compatible lollipop rom since lg never released a lollipop rom in my country, so i was having constant modem issues no matter what i tried. Got rid of if because of that.
Personally, I think Nexus 5 is spot on with the phone dimensions, shape and screen size. I had Meizu MX3 before, and it was MUCH harder to use it with one hand and I wasn't feeling very comfortable holding it. Granted, despite bigger screen, G2 is slightly smaller than MX3, but it still probably isn't insanely comfortable to hold and operate. So yeah, I think the way it feels in your hand and how comfortable are you with it (I very much prefer the design of N5 as well, but that's a subjective matter) is more important than minor differences in specs. And of course - software/support.
thanks guys i need to have a talk with my pillow and think it over ......
someone mentioned cloudy g2 rom works ok ..and from now on i would like to stay off of cm..i kind of like aosp better... so thank you for you time and input, but i can still listen to more comments.
I had the G2 for quite some time, but since I cracked the screen/digitizer and it was replaced with a generic one, it never was right. I ended up finding a good deal on a Nexus 5.
G2 - lightweight and awesome battery life. Great screen
Nexus 5- lots of developer support, I feel it has a better camera, but crappier battery for sure. I hate having a charger so I have a power pack on it and it kinda turns it into a brick.
Overall I believe you'd be happy with either one. I think my next phone will be a Z3 compact. I don't like big phones anymore unless they became G2 size with updated specs. I had a custom rom and kernel on the G2 and maybe I wasn't tuned right, but it did seem to lag more often than it should.
