Do you think there will be a new nexus X out in December, like the last two years. Tempted to jump on the free nexus S today but just not sure...doesn't seem that much better than my n1.
Maybe maybe not, but I just got one really like it. I figure I can always sell it on the 2nd hand market and it should retain some value!
I believe so, I got mine days for the evo 3d dropped and could care less about all the checkbox features and some of those beastly phones out there.
This phone works and battery life is great.

Its more relavent than my g2 that i just replaced it with.
As far as i'm concerned, it is definitely still relevant.
I just bought the nexus S (off contract) because my samsung captivate decided to crap out on me and I don't regret it now for one second.
I was eyeing the EVO 3D when it came out up here in Canada but, due to my current situation, couldn't wait long.
I thought of a few points after I bought the Nexus S that made me realize it was the Google phone to get.
a) Much better chance of getting updates from Google with the Nexus S than I would've got with HTC, LG, etc. I learned that the hard with with the captivate.
b) Battery life. On my first full charge and I am over 15hrs with 50% battery life left. I imagine I would never get that kind of battery life on the EVO 3D because of the dual cores, 3d gimmick (can turn off though), and their UI sucking out the battery life very quick.
c) No carrier crap on the phone. (also can be a battery sucker)
Imho, keep your N1 if you don't need a new phone (or contract) right now. If you're due to a new contract/renewing old one later I'd wait until the "Nexus 3" is out some time this year or early '12. If you're just wanting a new phone, I'd wait as well
I love my Ns but my missus just got the Galaxy s 2, and its a BEAST!
Its stupid fast and just seems to take everything u throw at it, live wallpapers that make my Ns lag stay super smooth on the S2. But hey, she will only get 1 or 2 updates to Android at best I recon as opposed the Nexus getting much more. Still the S2 made me think a bit...
I would wait a bit if I were you, the NS dont bring much more to the table than you already have with your N1.
Isn't nexus one still popular

Which live wallpapers make your NxS lag? I tried a few, I only got the fireworks one from the market (Go! devs wallpaper team) to really stress my phone, but it was still fluent (initial drawer opening was not as fast as before though).
Wow NExus S is faraway better than other smartphones.
Nexus s is the worst phone I've ever owned. Had it a week as spare but getting rid at a loss.

what was so bad about it? What other Androids have you/do you use? Ive used quite a few, and nexus s out performs just about ever single core comparable phone Ive tried.
I can respect anyones opinion, but just to say it was crap without qualifying that statement really doesnt give it much merit...

Well, if you really in love with one X designed, you need to be more patient. Sooner or later the bootloader will be cracked. Otherwise, go for GS3 and start flashing by next month

I moved from an iPhone 4s to this phone. Out of the box with no mods it's streets ahead of the 4s. Thing will only get better with time. I'm in for the long haul. I predict that only even number Galaxy releases will be worth a crap anyhow. Galaxy S Captivate= bad
SGS II was great.
SGS III designed by lawyers. No thanks
Not having the ability to command the phone via Bluetooth has me seriously considering returning it. Once I got my Android tablet my iPhone 4 was barely used for anything but music and phone calls but at least I could dial out without looking at the phone, an important feature for me since it's illegal here to operate a cell phone while driving a vehicle without using a hands free device.

The ONE thing that may cause me to take this phone back is the completely crippled multitasking. I'm tempted to keep it for the hardware, but it's virtually useless when I can't even multitask between two apps without the state being saved.
I did use siri a lot in the car, and I think the 4s takes better pictures. But the screen on the one x is a lot better for my old eyes. The SG3 with the voice app, removable battery and SD card storage along with the whole ATT not letting HTC unlock the boot loader makes me want to return and switch. I have also read that the SC3 will get updates a lot faster than HTC and that Samsung is a lot easier to root/flash
Agree, coming from the iPhone 4 the additional screen real estate is fantastic. I loathe itunes and many things Apple does differently so I seriously don't want to go back but commuting without voice command is going to be painful.

Don't be on samsung pushing fast updated. I had the galaxy2 and it took forever to get updates from sammy. Also their hardware was always an issue. Poor gps, poor radios etc. I might return my OneX due to the multi tasking issue but I would not got the III.
The wifi, push email, multitasking, and app association (youtube and market links open up in browser, not the app) issues all bother me greatly. I'm planning to install the 1.82 RUU update and see if it fixes at least wifi and push email. If it fixes both of those, I will probably keep it and just deal with the multitasking and app association stuff. But right now I'm definitely planning to return if wifi and push email aren't fixed soon.

And no, I'm not taking mine back. Not sure why anyone would. It's the best phone on the market right now, and for the foreseeable future.
Don't be a supercilious, condescending, and annoying grammar nazi. It's the internet, mistakes ARE allowed.
Truthfully, I can live with this phone being locked for the rest of my possession of it. So there's no reason for me to turn it back in for a sub-par display and design when I'll eventually get the experience I want with the One X.
Trading mine for a white nexus. I love this phone no doubt but stock AOSP feels right.

So with the new announcement of the Nexus 4 and how it will work on T-Mobile's network, I've been wondering if I should sell my One S to buy the Nexus 4? Is anyone else having similar thoughts? I am really interested in the bigger screen, higher resolution, as well as the S4 Pro processor and the 2 GB of ram. The One S has served me well but waiting on an official Jelly Bean release from HTC has been a big pain, though ParanoidAndroid has helped me deal with that. I can't imagine it being supported officially when 4.3 comes out.
Just wondering what everyone else thinks of the Nexus 4 in comparison to our One S.
Sorry, I didn't realize I was posting to the General section. This should belong to the Q&A section. I tried, but I don't know how to delete or move the thread.
I feel bad for messing up.
No worries a mod will move it. But on topic yeah its a great upgrade, it has the best specs on the market right now and it's only £279 I have already decided to upgrade and we can sell are one s on eBay and get the nexus 4 for like £30 on top.

I'm actually considering the same thing. Allthough the one S is a gorgeous device with good preformance and a wonderfulll build quality. But for this price its a real bargain, and as im on a 2 year contract i doubt the one s will keep up to speed. Plus I'm afraid alot of dev will jump ship aswell (some allready are).
Pro's for getting the Nexus 4 over the one S
- Better screen, this was a mayor lackbuster for the one S
- Newest chipset, allthough the oneS is doing a great job here, there is no denying the power of the s4 pro, and the nexus has a fresh aosp on top of that.
- Huge development community behind it
Con's
- Allthough the nexus has a great camera it doesnt has the same preformance and usability (burst, 0shutterlag, ect.)
- No sense. Yes its bloat, but we can't deny the solid preformance it has nowdays, and if we look at what 4.1 did for the one X i think i rather have a fun Sense ui over a vannila blend aosp nowdays (boring).
- I think i prefer the build quality on the one S, and it looks alot better aswell.
Still with this display, preformance, newest android builds is it hard not to consider it, especially with that price. And the development behind the nexus devices are really tempting too.
I'm buying the LG nexus 4 and selling HTC One S S3 because this phone was garbage. This was my last phone from HTC.
Goodbye HTC (crap), hello Nexus 4!
I like my HOS S4 but I cant resist the S4 Pro chip and the 2 GB of ram. The only con is the lack of an SD slot like the HOS.

I really like the my HOS S4 but I'll sell my One S for about the same price of the Nexus 4.
PS: I don't care about the SD
There is just one "small" problem. It looks like in Italy the phone it will cost probably 549€ or 599€ instead of 349€ like Spain\France\Germany(via play store)...so I won't sell my One S

This pretty much sums it up. I wont buy it, as my contact lasts one year
Will probably move to it as well, main reasons are
- nexus phone therefore we get updates as soon as they are released and will be guaranteed to get them
- bigger screen
I love the one s, prefer sense to stock android, will probably have a better camera and it has way more features, prefer Samoled, better design/build etc. but HTC as a company have really let it down with support and slow updates, can't see jb hitting my phone for another 4 weeks or so....
I just need to see reviews of it first and user opinions for the audio, camera and battery life, there are reviews for the optimus g, but lg's software seems to have been very poorly optimised (software/driver optimisation is very important in these areas), although these areas still look very good anyway except the camera.
In theory the battery should be better than the s as the n4 has a next gen battery, more power efficient screen and s4 pro, the adreno 320 is more power efficient than the adreno 225
I'm tempted by it so much too just cause its a new phone lol ... But I really don't like the huge screen and I'd miss my camera too much cause the camera the HOS has is too good .. Wow, are you me? I really do love the camera on the One S and the build quality just feels excellent; the two things that I would say it has over the Nexus 4. I like the cool metal case and just how professional and solid it feel. Like you, I also had the G2x before the One S and felt like they had screwed me over (Crappy drivers, crappy camera, crappy promise of ICS, etc.). Though HTC is not so good at delivering updates, in my opinion it is the most reliable OEM out there. So i won't move to LG or Samsung. My reason is based mostly on build quality, which kida sucks on LG and Samsung when compared to HTC.
Also, i don't really see the point in having the latest gadget. The HOS S4 will still be breathing at least a year from now, the CPU and GPU are strong enough. Plus, i don't really see how a quad core will help me on a mobile phone.
The only Nexus i really miss is the original Nexus One, the HTC Desire's brother.
You do realise that lg have nothing to do with the software? All they have done is made the phone and everything regarding software is handled by Google since it's a nexus phone.
Google said they shipped the lg design team over to Google headquarters in order to work with them very closely on the design and ergonomics of the phone.
Lg make fantastic hardware and a lot of their phones are very good as usual they are let down by the poor support and awful software.
I am really thinking about selling my One S S3 and getting a Nexus 4. I seems to be a very good phone.

I would definitely agree if you have the One S S3. It would be a significant speed bump and there probably isn't a significant con to the Nexus 4 that the One S doesn't share (non-removable battery, no SD card, etc.). I think the S4 version would be a tougher decision as to whether or not to upgrade to the Nexus 4.
Im getting the Nexus 4 the second I have the funds.

Lol, no way you will get 300 euros for a S3 one S, when you could get a S4 one S for that.
Especially if you have the black model, which has chipping issues.
Only way is if you can find someone around your area who don't have a clue about tech/android stuff.
Hello everyone, I would like to ask you a couple of questions. HTC ONE S is a beautiful phone, fast, the best to the touch and with a processor speed but ... But in the period where they are baked increasingly cheap quad core and even dual core as the new pro s4 are faster. In addition there is the problem that is not particularly supported by Community, stay with One S?
Express your thoughts thanks
If you want a dull vanilla android then yes ! But I would stay with one s or maybe shift to one x , one x+ or Samsung galaxy s3 ,try using a aokp/aosp Rom that's how a nexus device is,, very plain !! , if you got money to spent go buy some other quad cores like one x and sgs3 , people go with HTC and Samsung coz of their innovative ui ( sense for HTC and touchwiz for Samsung) . Android has only be rocking because of Samsung HTC and Sony , nexus devices are cheaper but not that enjoyable ,

I would say opposite of what this guy says. Samsung and HTC throw crappy interfaces over stock android making it slower and only causing you to not get the updated operating system timely on your phone. Vanilla android is best and I'm planning to buy nexus 4 as soon as it's out. One decent reason to stick with one s is that you don't have money to throw around buying the latest and greatest phone.

I find support pretty decent depending on what you're looking for. There's a good variety of different ROMs available to suit your tastes. Even though there's faster phones available now, it really depends on what you need to make your phone work for you. If you don't notice any issues with lag, performance is good, and battery life is good then I think things should be ok?

I spent $285 on this phone I think I got a solid deal. Definitely don't get an iphone anywhere near retail value. If I had to get a phone right now I would buy the Nexus 4.
Well as it stands right now the nexus 4 is gonna be strictly worst than our phone cuz LG made it. Anyone one else confused on that?
I say go for a onex+ or a s3. imma skip out on this round of smartphones though cuz our one s is one of the top phones out. Everytime i pull it out ppl are like OMG what phone is that. pretty much once the wow factor is gone its time for an upgrade lol
I mainly need a really powerful camera to replace compact digital camera for daily use, I don't want to take two devices go out. So, I will stay with One S and not to go with N4 like everyone else here.
I will probably buy a new phone later when HTC or Sony introduces their new camera sensor. HTC is going to roll out 5" 1080 J Butterfly with 8M cam in Dec on Japan, wanna see if the sensor get improved and I might get one.

LG is guilty of terrible software, but with the Nexus 4 that's not an issue. The hardware of the Nexus 4 is patchwork. On one hand you have the quad core S4 pro, on the other you're stuck with only 12gb of accessible space. On one hand you have an amazing screen, on the other the battery life sucks and can't be upgraded. You have to decide what you can tolerate to decide if a Nexus is for you. I love AOSP, but HATE limited storage. I love the resolution, but HATE the battery life. So I won't be getting a Nexus 4.

You will loose good speaker output/sound and the One is about to receive 4.3 very soon. I think the HTC One is overall a slghtly better phone so me personaly i wouldn`t change to the N5. If you want to change i would get the LG G2.
If you switch to the Nexus 5 you will loose the perfekt screen from the HTC and instead get this disappointing Screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYt7EPfdsYc

My Nexus 5 was delivered yesterday. Personally I prefer stock Android above a lot of things, that said I can definitely tell the difference moving away from the HTC One. Most notably are the speakers sound like your typical phone speakers whereas the HTC One's were godly. I also miss the IR Blaster (I'm not sure how much you use it but I used it quite often to control the TV which acts as my second monitor in my room).
The camera on the One will definitely be better in low light but I don't think I use it often enough to worry about that, but it's definitely worth considering.
What you gain is an incredibly nice to hold (the HTC One is nice to hold too admittedly) minimalistic device that is guaranteed prompt software updates to the latest and greatest version of Android for the coming year or two (again, HTC have said that they plan to upgrade the One to 4.4 within 3 months so we'll see how that pans out).
For the most part, I regret nothing. The phone is nice to hold, nice to use, the processing power jump is quite noticeable and the Android improvements in memory are incredibly obvious (there's a lot less random spurts of lag).
P.S. I am having one problem that I used to have on my Galaxy Nexus (I'd forgotten about it until now) where the phone won't change volume on Bluetooth devices! This is a massive drawback for me because I use my phone to play music in the car! I'm sure I'll figure it out though :crying:
Well said people , I stupidly sold my HTC one in anticipation of this and am really disappointed to say the least , horrible speakers, tiny sound on headphone s gap on screen collecting dirts.. I will most likely be sending this back, same predicament when the nexus 4 was released. Very sad .
So what about the Xperia Z? Will I be gaining a lot? I really dont care about viewing angles^^

Whereas the HTC One is a great looking phone, the N5 is pretty dull to look at. In fact, it's pretty dull full stop.
But we all like to get new things so...:good:
Let's just say price, I bought nexus 5 to get away from contracts, so I can upgrade in a year rather than 2. The HTC one is better and more expensive, sound is great, nexus not so. But I'm happy buying outright for the first time ever and I had my HTC sensation XE for two years, I will miss it. If I had to have a contract phone I would have gone for the blue HTC one.

You wont gain anything in terms of hardware or features. The S800 isnt a big enough gain over the S600 to make any real difference. The HTC One is a quality product in a way the N5 simply isnt.
In terms of software i dont see anything in KitKat that makes it 'better' on a day to day basis than 4.3 with Sense and of course you lose all the sense features.
I have both phones, I was going to sell the One, but the N5 isnt good enough for me to replace the One with it, so im keeping both.
